A lot of fellow bears posting starting Xi for the old firm game. Interesting reading however my 2 cents are when we knocked them out of the cup in Feb it was because we flooded the midfield and out numbered them in crucial areas of the park. We lost the first goal to defensive frailties which would suggest to me Hill in for Wilson or Kiernan (even though I have been impressed with recent Kiernan displays recently) . Hill is more of a ball winner than the other 2. Apart from that I'd look to flood the middle and have a bit of bite in attack.
My starting Xi if all fit would be:
Foderingham

Hodson/ Tav Kiernan Wilson Wallace/ Hodson

Holt Halliday Windass
Waggy Mckay
MIlley

Almost a 4-5-1 in defence and 4-3-3 in attack.
Would bring Garner on in second half to rough up and win balls in the air against their fatigued defenders just feel on the ground Kenny could link up a bit better.
Just my thoughts lads either way let's get St. Johnstone out the way and then get behind the famous Glasgow Rangers.

The January acquisitions, purchase or loan, should be of quality and calibre to play immediately in the first 11. THe so called Barton wages are available and DK said further additions would be made in January. No squad enhancements please MW/ DK.

27 Dec 2016 22:10:56
Agree that we need to look at players who will strengthen our starting Xi Fd and I'm sure Warbs and Weir will have targets in mind. However If we are able to bring in a couple of decent players who can fill a gap then that's important aswell as I feel Wallace for example doesn't have a challenger for his spot and competiton is healthy and can bring out more from players. 2nd place will be ours so from the end of Jan it's about laying down a marker for next season. Just my opinion mate.

27 Dec 2016 20:09:40
Another goal for Patterson for hearts tonight. He must be the type we should be looking to sign, either in Jan or for next season. Not silly money and IMO far better than we currently have. Scores plenty tae.

27 Dec 2016 22:47:19
Also was taken off on a stretcher.

27 Dec 2016 16:43:06
Team I'd go with for old firm:

Fod
Hodson/ Tav Hill Wilson Wallace/ Hodson
Crooks Halliday
Windass
Waggy Garner Miller

Hodson at number2 if Wallace doesn't make it.
I'd also gamble with Crooks coming in as we will be outmuscled with Holt and Halliday in.
Front 3 will put in a shift and I'd bring on pace at 60mins. Dodoo, McKay and O'Hal.

27 Dec 2016 17:55:06
Crooks will not start, we won't see the best of crooks until next season, well that is if he can get a full pre season under his belt.

27 Dec 2016 20:04:53
I agree Crooks prob won't start and no doubt McKay will as will Kiernan. If MW starts team which most predict I can't see us getting a result. above team is how I'd go.

27 Dec 2016 21:07:08
Fod
Hodson Kiernan Wilson Wallace ( if fit )
Halliday
Holt Windass
Waggy Garner Miller

Crooks isn't going to be ready to next season and I'd love Rossiter to be fit for the game as he's a natural in def midfield but I'd reckon he's another that needs a good pre season under his belt!

We need someone with a midfield engine as much as I like Halliday I just don't think he's the one but he plays for the jersey every week ( apart from putting the ball into row z the other week lol )

No matter who plays the game always gets won in midfield so we need to get that right firstly!

28 Dec 2016 17:24:08
If Crooks plays the game will fly by him. He has only played 3 games in last 6 months and hasn't played a full 90 mins it would be very unwise to pitch him in.

27 Dec 2016 15:42:30
Watching wee Anya just now. Just reinforces what i said a few weeks back about pushing the boat out to get him. Would also let Mckay step into the midfield (10) which is honestly where i see him flourishing over his career. Showed his range of passing abd technical ability over the last few weeks but just feel he lacks that extra wee bit of decisiveness to get past players. Thoughts?

27 Dec 2016 16:37:49
Interesting but don't think he is good enough or would add anything to the team.

27 Dec 2016 21:27:30
Personally Bryan I'd take Anya in a heartbeat followed his career over the last 2/ 3 years a guy with pace to burn and isn't afraid to take a man on to the byline. Plus if i'm not mistaken he was often used as a wingback with Watford before moving up. Good wee player who can play a couple of different positions.
If he could add a few more goals to his game then he would be a 10 mill player mark my words look at Matt Ritchie or Matty Philips (who of course Strachan still overlooks) as an example.

28 Dec 2016 16:04:33
Bryan1978, i totally reiterate what you're saying regarding young barrie mckay playing in the proper no.10 role (the hole/ attacking midfield, free role position)! If you look back my posts of many months ago i've continually said this. Barrie mckay has everything to be able to play there, his technique and vision/ passing range is quite superb! He's our andreas iniesta if you like! This is where i also see barrie mckay playing in the future with us and whoever else once he leaves us! Barrie mckay can undoubtedly do the same job for rangers as the great, world class iniesta has done for barcelona and spain for many years!

27 Dec 2016 15:40:57
Is it time to cut our losses with Michael O, Halloran that 1 year now still just a handful of starts, he's obviously not catching the gaffers eye in training I say sell him in thus transfer window, your thoughts guys?

27 Dec 2016 16:13:58
I don't think he is used in a manner to suit his game, but if he does not suit the manager, then why not.

27 Dec 2016 16:46:11
billyb, how would you use him? At start off the season I was one who thought he was underrated and would be a big player this season. When he gets game time he does not seem to make the most of it and other than pace can appear limited, predictable and his passing not great. Also appears to be satisfied not to be involved more.

27 Dec 2016 18:54:52
If you remember the night he destoyed us, at Ibrox, he played quite deep, in a sort of mid-field position and attacked our defence centrally. His pace and the way he attacked us through the middle tore us apart.
He is more suited to an out and out 4-4-2.

27 Dec 2016 19:05:41
ur right billy we are back to the days of bringing in players and playing them differently.

27 Dec 2016 19:31:45
Think he should start game tomorrow at SJ, has something to prove and players can play well against former team.
Our system is more flexible now and can see how could play on the right of a midfield 4. My concern is that his close control is not his best quality. Hope he gets game and plays a blinder, really want him to be success.

27 Dec 2016 21:30:41
Personally for me M'oh is better suited to starting games at Ibrox or the wider longer pitches. Play him at Pittodrie or Tynecastle and his main attacking threat of pace is almost immediately nullified due to the compact nature of those parks. Guy is a decent player great feet but bear in mind he was a star of St Johnstone because I believe Tommy Wright knew how to play to the lads strengths.

27 Dec 2016 21:37:16
Fd, I totally agree, tomorrow night is the perfect platform for O'Halloran. Two goals in a 3-1 victory.

28 Dec 2016 06:48:06
Ger88, Willie Johnston's pace was electric, and he was used through the middle many times, on one occasion scoring 4 at pittodrie. Similarly, with Peter Lovenkrands.

28 Dec 2016 10:22:54
The point being missed with MoH is that he exploited the space in behind when he played against us.

Playing for us, there is no space for him to exploit as the opposition tend to sit in a lot deeper.

This was obviously going to happen but Warburton couldn't see it.

28 Dec 2016 10:25:05
Who would realistically sign him and how much would you think he is worth.

28 Dec 2016 14:45:52
3-1 win tonight would be a great result. Hope MOH plays a blinder and grabs couple of goals. Critical we win tonight regardless of score.

28 Dec 2016 14:56:27
Gosman, Tend to agree with you, but would be ideal for away games, when teams give us more space.

27 Dec 2016 12:05:46
Got to win tomorrow and Saturday. Not sure what team will be fielded tomorrow night but my starting 11 v Celtic would be (though I concede Warburton won't change to 4-4-2):

Foderingham; Hodson, Wilson, Hill, Wallace (if fit) : Halliday, Holt, Windass, McKay; Waghorn, Garner

It is a shame that Rossiter still isn't fit and I'd leave Tavernier out due to his defensive weaknesses. Other thought I have is that Kiernan could play alongside Wilson and play Clint Hill in front of back four as a sitting midfield player in a 4-1-3-2 with one of the midfield quartet dropping out. We've got to press high up the pitch and give Garner and Waghorn the chance to run at balls into the box so this means the midfield trio or quartet must run their butts off for 90 minutes!

27 Dec 2016 12:30:07
Sorry mate but no chance Big Clint could play the Makelele roll. I agree it's a shame Rossiter isn't fit yet as I think he'd be 1st pick. I do think we need more of a physical presence in the middle on the 31st, maybe it'll be the game where Crooks turns into a player.

27 Dec 2016 16:32:53
Im gutted we haven't had the chance to play Crooks, Rossiter and Windass as a midfield 3. All can play and would give us the drive and guile we so badly need aswel as much needed protection for FBs going forward.
Holt and Halliday are too weak and just not good enough. We will continue to struggle with these 2 grafters in engine room.

27 Dec 2016 11:17:58
Would really like to see Dodoo get more game time. Won the match at Patrick with a great strike and followed up with a beauty at Hearts only for Forrester to be judged offside. Would like to see him feeding off Garner. MW has said will use the squad this week so will be interesting to see line up against SJ tomorrow. Regardless of line up unless we increase tempo from ICT game we will lose.

27 Dec 2016 10:10:01
I think we should take a look at Omar Bogle, he's a center forward (grimsby, 23, 6"2, in all teams and competitions he's scored 97 goals in 184 games.

I realise we need to strengthen other areas but we also need to start putting away the chances we do create.

28 Dec 2016 10:18:54
How's it gone Dutchy đź‘Ť definitely need another striker.

27 Dec 2016 08:18:55
Stuart McCall makes an excellent point, that escapes the rest of Scottish football, and that was that our demotion to the lower tiers was the best thing that happened to the teams that played there. Many were also saved from the brink and they have the audacity to say we would not be missed.
The verification will be the benefits in the coffers of premier league clubs, this season.

27 Dec 2016 08:41:31
I made this point a few times during the journey. Our support and the extra tv money virtually wiped out the debt of most teams on the way up. The championship teams got 2 years of full houses.

27 Dec 2016 09:53:50
Do you have the financial figures to back this up or is it mere heresay?

27 Dec 2016 10:35:03
I hope they got their share of the tv money as we only got ÂŁ10k as our share went to the spl as they seen it as compensation considering when we were in the lower leagues we were the biggest draw 890k tuned in to watch us in on third tier game where celtic v Aberdeen pulled in 200k so I hope the spl did not punish our opposition in those games when they were hammering us but I wouldn't put it past them.

27 Dec 2016 10:49:30
That'll be why McCall did his bit and kept you there a while longer.

To quote Inigo Montoya:

"You keep using the word 'demoted'. I do no not think it means what you think it means. "

27 Dec 2016 12:52:08
sure there would have been clubs in the lower divisions who appreciated the extra cash, but their saviour`s come on. these guys are used to running their club`s on tight budget`s.

M`coll, when talking up Rangers liquidation, seems to have missed the big picture, the ÂŁ165M trail of debt they washed their hands off.

money that could have been spent in our schools and hospitals. so for the little winners there were plenty big losers.

27 Dec 2016 13:56:22
Let's be realistic here. It was a fabricated tax bill which made us uninvestable and ultimately sent us down in the first place.

Cleared of any wrong doing twice I think before HMRC got some joy with the third attempt, which I'm sure still hasn't been resolved after all these years.

Anyone on here who is honest will agree that our club was used as a guinea pig for HMRC to chase EPL clubs for cash, only it didn't go as they hoped.

27 Dec 2016 15:14:24
Tpp. The Oxford English definition of demotion is " to be reduced to a lower rank or position, normally as a punishment. " Seems a fair assessment to me!
Bb, your first sentence explains exactly why we saved their existence. They run on a tight budget and look for a plum, home cup tie or a player sale to help them survive for several years. During our time in the lower divisions, WE guaranteed that would happen.
As far as your quoted debt figure is concerned, get a grip because it is obvious your green tinted specs need cleaning or, more likely, disinfected.

27 Dec 2016 17:03:51
That guy Montoya always was a bit of an arse.

27 Dec 2016 17:44:03
Yeah Billy that's what it's definition is- shame it's not what happened. Go look up the word "new" or the phrase "start from the bottom", emphasis on "start". Whilst there, it'll do you no harm at all to look up "self-deception".

27 Dec 2016 19:02:24
Well tpp, time for you to re-name yourself. Keeping the same initials you could quite easily have more apt names!
As far as new is concerned, I think pot and kettle come to mind, so just have a little look at history books, closer to home.

27 Dec 2016 21:44:09
Billy, if you have something to say, say it. Own it.
