With Senderos set to sign a two year deal tomorrow, who would you partner him at the back with. Personally I'd go Senderos and Wilson. ( Anyone know if Senderos is a right sided CB or left sided CB? )

25 Aug 2016 22:59:06
Rangers Loyal, like you I'd prefer the centre half pairing of senderos and wilson, I think senderos is a right centre back mate, wilson plays better with an experienced centre half beside him and its the perfect foil with senderos being a strong, rugged, no nonsense centre half whereas wilson is a footballing centre half.

25 Aug 2016 23:03:54
He is left sided.

25 Aug 2016 23:22:32
It has to be Wilson, proved it in the past that he can play at the highest level alongside someone with experience but I have a bad feeling that MW has a soft spot for Kiernan for whatever reason (gave him captaincy when Wallace was out) . From what I have seen of Kiernan he has been below average at best. Only had one good game against Celtic but then again the whole team did.

26 Aug 2016 00:07:41
Hill and senderos all day long mate! other two are shambolic!

26 Aug 2016 04:52:08
Wilson captained the club in America tho and when Kiernan had the captaincy it was because Wilson was out with the flu.

26 Aug 2016 07:03:27
people on this site cannot watch our games of they think Wilson is shambolic. he covers wallace mistakes for 90 minutes and still does his own job. Wilson is one of our best players.

26 Aug 2016 07:22:25
his marking is poor and he can't clear the ball when it comes into the box bomb scare defending!

26 Aug 2016 09:53:47
Danny Wilson has proved he can play at the required level so I think we should give the lad a break. He has all the basics of a good centre half and based on his Hearts days the makings of a fine captain. His distribution in the main is good, the only thing he lacks is a bit of physicality and there is not too much he can do about that! The reason he looks at sea some of the time is the amount of territory the Rangers CBs are asked to patrol over the course of a game. Because the fullbacks are pushing forward, when we are hit on the counter, there is way too much space in the middle of the defensive third for relatively fast mobile forwards to run into. Add to this the fact that the CBs are often outnumbered and there are more attacking options to close down than Rangers men to cover, so it is clear why we are vulnerable. This is where our defensive mids need to step up to the plate and with Rossiter and Barton, potentially both candidates for SPL team of the year, we should have the quality to sort this out. It is still early days but I expect big things of this pair. Keirnan for me is more of an issue; for his height he is poor in the air and his distribution is at best erratic, often poor and sloppy, so I would hope Senderos is here to address this? My main point is that the bombscare effect is as much a reflection on our tactics and formation as it is on our CBs ability so MW needs to rethink a bit.
The other thing MW should be looking at in my opinion is the substitution policy. This continual subbing on the 60 minute mark, driven by loading and game time is narrow minded and naive. With the bench we have there are plenty opportunities to change the pattern of a game and gain a tactical advantage by changing personnel on the field. This is what the great coaches do and MW should be prepared to do likewise. If we are behind at half time and Barry is in his marking full backs pocket why not bring on Harry (say) for the start of the second half and throw something different at the opposition. MW's approach is very professional, reasoned and thorough but lacks the mercurial inspiration of coaches who can change the coarse of a game from the touch line.
That said, really looking forward to tonight's game and another step toward's 55.

26 Aug 2016 11:41:11
I'm assuming right sided central defender. Play him and wilson. Keep kiernan OUT of the starting 11.

26 Aug 2016 11:25:08
Senderos is fight footed.

25 Aug 2016 20:52:36
Senderos currently undergoing medical, hopefully signs tonight or tomorrow before Killie game.

25 Aug 2016 22:10:38
Some of our supporters need to have a reality check with there current negativity regarding our possible signing of swiss international centre half philippe senderos, trust our manager and git right behind the club! Senderos will be a good signing for us especially in scottish football, he's still only 31 years old and if fit he's exactly the type of centre half we've been crying out for since warbs and sir davie became our management team over a year ago now, Some supporters you can just never please, I honestly wish they'd get behind senderos as it now looks likely we're signing him and wait and see how he plays for us before jumping the gun and already putting the guy down.

25 Aug 2016 22:53:55
Agree with a lot of that mate, especially the neg posters. its looking like senderos and no matter What we have to get behind the team. i think he will prove people wrong but as long as he contributes to a great season then so be it.

For where we are right now we have had a great window. we have had some cracking players sign for us and now i believe we are READY.

For me, its a great feelin to be a rangers man, more so now than ever.

25 Aug 2016 23:16:34
Excellent post. Fans living in the wild, expecting a top class defender for pennies. He's signs, we support him. end of.

25 Aug 2016 20:29:07
Let's be brave and positive at Kilmarnock tomorrow night. Sense there is some anxiety in the air which is only to be expected. We are Rangers and that is part of the deal and responsibility that comes with being a supporter of the best club in the world. Looking for a good win with Garner and Dodoo on the scoresheet.

25 Aug 2016 21:12:36
Doesn't help when some of our fans are on the teams back if we not scored before 20 minutes then when they booing them off the park at half time 3 games into the league season be better if those fans stayed in the pub and let the rest of us get behind the team.

25 Aug 2016 23:11:33
Well said Ryan.

It makes us look arrogant to have that attitude at games.

Everyone knows who we are and we have a great history but we have just rebuilt a team and gained promotion, to expect 100% dominant wins is a bit far fetched.

Fans need to encourage the players, when I encourage my kids I don't do it by jeering and booing them.

26 Aug 2016 00:10:00
if we win every game 2- 1 we win the league, suits me!

25 Aug 2016 19:16:12
as much as I am happy with our recruitment of players and enjoying them playing. I know Warbs is trying to get his best 11 on the park, but one thing that really annoys me is the amount of poor shots from outside the area tav, barton, halliday, forrester and McKay have all been guilty recently of ballooning shots high and wide. What happened to wee Barry, at the tailend to last season he was on fire with his shooting. Basics of shooting lean forward to keep ball low. I Would hope against Killie we make their keeper work more often.

25 Aug 2016 23:42:14
Thinking the exact same thing if I was a manager of ask my players to shoot from anywhere could get a corner a deflection a red face but you also get goals.

25 Aug 2016 18:34:30
I think the bull needs to be grabbed by the horn and kick ay settling in argument into touch. Joe Garner seems to be the striker we've been wanting and he should go straight into the team, he's match fit, no need for the 60 minute sub bit, no need to prove himself first. He's our most expensive signing for years and there's no time to waste. I noticed Stubbs signed Ball on a Thursday and he was in the starting 11 on the Saturday. That's the way to do it.

25 Aug 2016 23:01:50
Aye and theyvgot pumped in that game.

25 Aug 2016 23:17:00
No reason not to start him however I think kenny will start.

25 Aug 2016 17:42:43
Sylvain Distin? Free agent.

25 Aug 2016 19:39:33
He retired.

25 Aug 2016 19:41:05
Deffo not the worst shout rawills!

26 Aug 2016 10:37:29
Big Distin would be a great shout, the big guy just doesn't seem to age! although I think he has decided to retire this season.

25 Aug 2016 15:35:39
I said a week ago we would finish second --THINGS HAVE CHANGED! ---we must win this league or suffer the consequences--.

25 Aug 2016 16:30:39
Suffer what consequences?

25 Aug 2016 16:51:02
Deecee. You've played three teams in the bottom sector of the league. Celtic and Partick still 100% records. If rangers finish in the top six you should consider that a successful season.

Get real rangers will be also rans this season. Nothing more will be acceptable.

25 Aug 2016 17:15:10
I think Celtic will lose 10 goals inone of there away games!

25 Aug 2016 17:17:03
the consequences are all financial ivlark------we got lucky when we were out of the epl and they had a duff manager

25 Aug 2016 18:06:45
Is noboyscout

Is that the same Partick Th who lost 2-1 on Saturday to Aberdeen?

25 Aug 2016 18:16:44
Smith2d, you need a new psychiatrist, clearly your medication is not working. Who in the spl is going to three past the bhoys let alone ten.

25 Aug 2016 18:18:51
Decree. Did I miss something. The rangers in the epl. when was that? .

25 Aug 2016 18:44:13
I for one will be very happy with second DELIGHED with a close second.

25 Aug 2016 19:43:25
Biffo sir I bow with apologies, sorry live over the ocean, so only us bhoys still with 100% record.

We may or may not secure some points in the champions league group of death, but i'm sure the people of manchester will welcome us as friends, hopefully we can rebuild the reputation of scots being good visitors, not thugs, as was witnessed during the rangers europa final.

25 Aug 2016 20:33:01
For all our friends from the other site, write us off at your pearl .
If we don't finish in the top two I will be very disappointed .
We have basically bought a new team with players better than what we had, we have played three games and got seven out of nine points!
To have that many new players and get them playing to the
system MW wants, will take time .
Point is we will only get better game after game, wait and see .

25 Aug 2016 20:39:31
celtic fans trying to take a moral high ground. seen it all now.

25 Aug 2016 21:18:32
Selick fans claiming they're scottish now. uv got to laugh. tri-colours then its palestine flags now ther banging on abt bein scottish. into the bargain ther screaming from the rooftops that we're a new club whilst crawling thru our fan pages. You really couldn't make it up.

26 Aug 2016 00:27:52
celtic made a fortune from the champions league over the last few seasons, and they are still guff! so why worry?

26 Aug 2016 00:39:22
I have to agree Bluedie. I've never quite understood these Celtic fans who continually state thay we are a new club and refer to us as Sevco. yet they still want to keep the rivalry alive. Well I'm sorry, that doesn't make sense. If you truly beieve we are a new club then beating us, or anything that is happening to us should interest and affect you just about as much as if we were say Morton or Dumbarton.

26 Aug 2016 04:55:07
Exactly mate.

25 Aug 2016 23:08:27
We desperately need new investment, from china or something like that, what an opportunity for a rich consortium? A massive fan base, opportunity for cl, big name, great stadium and history, and a possibility of playing in English premier league someday? Maybe a pipedream? I know, but I think it could happen,
Tommy.

25 Aug 2016 23:26:08
Second is the best we can hope for.

25 Aug 2016 13:22:28
Anyone else get the feelin that MW is trying to convince us and himself Senderos is a good signing? I'm not saying he can't do a job for us and hope he does, but it's strikes me as not a usual MW type signing. I can't think of any of his signings who have had such little game time over a 3 year period but I get the impression FMP is working behind the scenes to look for alternatives it may just be this is our only real option. I'm surprised that if we sign him he might play Friday you have to wonder about match fitness.

25 Aug 2016 23:24:15
Age, fitness and game time as you stated puts Hill and Kranjar into that exact same bracket tbf.

25 Aug 2016 23:04:56
I know it would cost a bucket load of money to get a real good centre back, and I also know we don't have much transfer cash available at this moment in time, but to think that we have known since before the end of last season that we definitely need a decent centre back for playing in the premiership why are we only a few days away before the transfer window slams shut and the only option that we seem to have is senderos who I personally think we will have trouble keeping fit (I hope I'm proved wrong if we do sign him) surely we couldn't have been priced out of every potential centre back we wanted, like I say I fully understand where we stand just now regarding money but surely there has to be a better option than senderos out there.

25 Aug 2016 13:14:34
Just reminiscing of previous teams/ players to play for the most honoured club in the world.

The best team I have seen in my era (mind you I'm only 30) IMO has to be.

Goram

Numan
Gough
Boumsong
Hutton

Laudrup
Gazza
Albertz

Mols
McCoist
Hateley

The Aulder generation would have a better team obviously, wae Cooper, Jardine and Slim Jim. didny ever get to see them play unfortunately.

Could also throw in Cuellar, Barry Ferguson, Negri, Lovenkrands (for european occasions), Boyd (for vs diddy teams XD), even Kanchelskis was class.

25 Aug 2016 13:28:38
Priceless that cheered me up.

25 Aug 2016 13:39:17
Goram/ hutton/ robertson/ gough/ cuellar. laudrup/ gazza/ mccall/ albertz/ ally/ hately.

25 Aug 2016 13:56:21
Klos

Stevens Gough Butcher Numan

Ferguson van Bronkhorst Gattuso

Laudrup Negri Molls.

25 Aug 2016 14:00:37
Surely David weir or amo for central defender alongside gough.

Or crooks. Hahaha.

25 Aug 2016 14:06:11
A. Goram

A. Numan/ D. Robertson (cant decide)
R. Gough
T. Butcher
G. Stevens

R. Wilkins
I. Durrant
P. Gascoigne

M. Hateley
A. McCoist
B. Laudrup

Breaks my heart to leave out B. Ferguson, M. Mols, G. V. Bronckhurst, Albertz and even I. Ferguson

Went with my initial gut feeling though.

25 Aug 2016 14:30:31
Cooper in all these line ups all day long.

25 Aug 2016 15:03:47
Tugay was class in the midfield.

25 Aug 2016 15:29:02
I love davie weir but don't think he was as good as cuellar or bougy for me. as for mikey mols if he didn't get injured he would b in my team everytime. i'd go as far as to say he would b right up there with laudrup as the greatest player in our history if not for injury.

25 Aug 2016 15:31:31
This will be a laugh. WORSE XI. letizi/ bernard/ muscat/ svensson/ konterman. rothen, namouchi/ capucho/ mdlanevic. sebo/ ostenstaad.

25 Aug 2016 15:50:39
the goalie. G Stevens. Gough. Butcher. Human. Albertz. B ferguson. S Davis. Cooper. Mccoist. Laudrup. Subs. Kloss. Brown. Gazza. Mols.

25 Aug 2016 16:11:58
No Davie cooper?

25 Aug 2016 16:42:32
WOODS
STEVENS NUMAN

GOUGH BUTCHER

WALTERS GASGCOINE DE BOER LUADRUP

25 Aug 2016 17:43:05

mcgregor
ricksen amo weir numan
Walters gazza Ferguson gio
laudrap mccoist

special mentions. ronald de boer, negri, mols, goram, boyd, Rod wallace, Moore. there's been a lot.

25 Aug 2016 20:20:34
How about my first team

Ritchie
Shearer
Proven
Greig
McKinnon
Henderson
Baxter
McLean
Miller
Brand
Davie Wilson my first Rangers hero,
( loved that team I was just a Wee boy! )

25 Aug 2016 20:35:49
Bluedie

Yes Bertie was truly awful however that sweet strike against Celtic in the semi final should spare him the ignominy of being in the worst ever team. I remember the teams of the early eighties and there were some woeful players in those teams.

25 Aug 2016 20:45:18
Goram.
Jardine, Gough, Butcher, Numan

Laudrop Gasgcoine, Souness

Mols Johnstone, Cooper.

25 Aug 2016 21:22:41
Your just a tad older than me Biffo316 😂that goal did go thru my mind when i was picking it so i'm going to "drop" him for FanFan 😂.

25 Aug 2016 22:27:14
Great shout with Walters! !

25 Aug 2016 22:54:01
Will we ever see their likes again. We've had some players over the years. Cooper my hero but Laudrup probably the best in my time.

26 Aug 2016 04:57:12
Yip Laudrup in my eyes was the greatest. We're not worthy🇩🇰.

25 Aug 2016 22:29:50
My best Gers team would be Goram, Jardine, Gough, butcher, Greig, laudrup, Gascoigne, Baxter, cooper, mcoist, hateley. what a team that is.

25 aug 2016 22:32:32
ritchie, shearer, caldow, greig, nckinnon, baxter, henderson, nacmillan, millar, brand and wilson. simply the best.

25 aug 2016 19:54:48
van bronkhurst missing too often and from a team perspective d cooper wouldn't make it -seems to be forgotten how the crowd were constantly on his back for not getting stuck in.
gazz, imo, is the best i have seen in 55 years watching.

what about the worst 11?
i don't regard getting stuck in as being a skill if that's all they have.

25 Aug 2016 22:58:57
Who's human lol and steve Davis was good at us but never anywhere near getting into our best team overy last 20 30 years.

26 Aug 2016 10:24:14
Ritchie, Shearer, Caldow; Greig, McKinnon, Baxter; Henderson, MacMillan, Millar, Brand, Wilson. If only.

25 Aug 2016 13:00:04
Good luck to Dean Sheils, signed for Dundalk. Jus a shame his dad is a totty.

25 Aug 2016 13:40:57
he's such a nice guy and his dad's a plonker.

25 Aug 2016 14:03:41
The one thing I love about shiels is his refusal to ever let his vision problems be an excuse or to hold him back

He didn't deserve the criticism the got, one of the best signings coisty made.

25 Aug 2016 11:20:29
Just noticed that Lewis MacLeod is in the Scottish Under 21 squad and apparently has started the season well with Brentford. Best of luck to the lad.

25 Aug 2016 11:42:31
Yeah he's had a horrible 18months since he left us, but now she he's fit again he's broke into the first team at Brentford and he's playing very well, best of luck to him because he really was a great talent.

25 Aug 2016 12:26:00
Good luck to the lad!

25 Aug 2016 13:35:30
That is a player we should be pulling out all the stops for now he is fit he was only sold out of spite by a board who wanted to wreck our club and knew their time was up.

25 Aug 2016 13:57:05
Or perhaps he just stood out in a rubbish team?

25 Aug 2016 23:26:55
Nah Boss as a Celtic fan I can even admit the boy had a bit of class about him! Hopefully stays injury free and then will be interesting to see how he processes.

25 Aug 2016 19:04:41
Started the season in great form 2 or 3 assists in the league and unlucky not to get himself a few goals so far hope he can stay fit real potential for the future, playing out on the right still.

25 Aug 2016 11:18:53
hi guys I just want to say a little something about our defence. if you look at the goals we give away very rarely is it goals where teams pass the ball about and break down our team it's usually teams hitting on the break. now if you look at the way MW plays it's a very attacking 433 with LW and JT bombing forward from the wingback areas so when teams counter us were left with 2 CB's as our defence. this would be awesome if we scored all the goals we should with the amount we have the ball in the oppositions area but we don't and LW and JT are a lot slower at coming back than they are going forward and that leave DW and RK to cover the whole defence. I'm not sticking up for all there performances but a lot of there poor shows have simply been down to the system we play and for that the problem is with management. for me the perfect solution to this and also keep MW tactics very similar would be to play a 541 with 3 CB's 2 WB's.

25 Aug 2016 11:26:25
It's more the silly mistakes that Kiernan is prone to that annoy me, he just can't seem to get himself in the right place at the right time. Hopefully Senderos can enlighten him on this. Wilson needs to be the ball playing CB either a no nonsense type bedside him and I think we have found that in Senderos.

25 Aug 2016 14:05:39
Been making the same point as original poster for months. Every manager in Scotland is aware of this.

25 Aug 2016 23:05:39
Never mind anybody bombing forward. Keirnan cannot win a ball in the air punted into the box. He's 6"2 and Mcdonald outmuscled/ jumped him twice last week. No postional sense at all, turns his back on the ball when trying to block shots. Lump of wood.

25 Aug 2016 10:53:22
Keep seeing posts about Crooks at centre back when he isn't even a centre back. Warbjrton said he wanted 4 centre backs named Hill Keirnan and Wilson along with a signing aswell as Crooks saying himself he isn't a centre back and he doesn't understand why people keep calling him one😂.

25 Aug 2016 11:06:58
he started off as a centreback who has also played upfront and centre midfield. when did he say he wasn't a centreback? if that's the case he won't see much game time.

25 Aug 2016 11:28:15
I'm sure the manager will at least try him out there, he's 6 4" and played there 2 seasons ago so it would be mad to at least not give it a bash.

25 Aug 2016 11:28:27
I saw some interview on ranger site I think where he said he isn't a centre back and doesn't understand why people keep calling him one.

25 Aug 2016 11:48:58
Crooks says himself this week that he's not a centre back, but he has played there, his best position is centre midfield, but he did say he will play wherever the gaffer needs him to play.

25 Aug 2016 12:18:22
his recent comments were that he does not know were he will be deployed. He and DW spoke and DW told him to narrow your options by saying your only one position when you can play other positions.

The big man said he will play were ever he can get a game for the Bears. (And looking at our team his most likely chance is CB unless he is out of this world and takes barton and Rositters places.

He also said he likes to attack and if in midfield he not just able to play DM he can do the box to box.

25 Aug 2016 14:08:26
Crooks should have a wee read of these board's- he would probably pee himself laughing with some of the ridiculous comments.

Like chuck d once said "don't believe the hype"

25 Aug 2016 10:12:24
If sendaros signs and stays fit he will add some steal to the defence . Wilson and sendaros will make a good pair with crooks and kiernan as back up . crooks could be a gem but we need to see how be plays up here before saying he has to play the tic . we are top after 3 and we have not be out of first gear. when our players gel and everyone is fit we will be very strong and have players to change a game on the bench . the tic will drop points after European nights and we will get stronger in warbs we trust.

25 Aug 2016 11:30:00
Good post Damo. We would all have loved to be firing on all cylinders from the start but it was never going to happen with 10 new players. Let's hope it clicks against the manky mob.

25 Aug 2016 09:33:56
I for one will take the signing of Senderos, all day long. We now have a possibility of him and Crooks when match fit being our new CB pairing.

Crooks has pace. Really good with the ball at his feet and is physically imposing at 6.4" so a think we can all relax a bit more now as technically we have 5 CB.

Senderos is a no nonsense player also, big boy like Crooks, physicality at CB is essential in premiership so I for one am happy with this signing. Another Free trf, wages won't be crazy, he is 31 so still got another few years ahead injuries permitting.

Now let's go for 55 now!

25 Aug 2016 09:48:23
It's going to be hard, but that's my thinking before the team has gelled, so when everyone is fit and playing regularly then we will find out how good we are. let's hope were awesome lol
Btw garner to score on his debut tomorrow,3-1 Rangers, thoughts bears.

25 Aug 2016 10:05:46
Crooks isn't a CB, even he questioned why everyone keeps saying he should play there. The lad is a midfielder, that if need be can slot into the defense.

25 Aug 2016 10:19:39
Changing a centre half pairing is a disaster waiting to happen anybody who's played the game knows that what makes CB's good is knowing their partner is just as capable as them. Wilson i think is the main stay and he'll either continue with Kiernan as MW rates him or he'll be paired with Senderos/ Crooks.

I take the position that Crooks might be deployed in the middle for harder games kinda like Ball did last year for a physical presence. I think we'll all agree we need balance in the midfield, energy, protection for the defence and a creative influence. Krancjar fully fit will be amazing in there and i like Windass' direct approach.

25 Aug 2016 07:55:14
Efe ambrose is available on a free.

25 Aug 2016 09:33:09
After Tuesday night I'd have thought they were all available on a free. About the poorest Celtic display I've ever seen and not a single player impressed. And they celebrate!

25 Aug 2016 09:53:52
C, mon kfraser, they've every right to celebrate, they won the tie 5-4,I didn't want Celtic in the c/ l but that was purely down to the money, but it might help us, it might not, time will tell.

25 Aug 2016 09:54:37
Celtic celebrate because they have added a minimum 26 million to their balance sheet. at this moment and time The Rangers would celebrate 2.6 million.

and was it not last season The Rangers celebrated winning the fish and chip shop cup at the 4th time of asking against part timers?

25 Aug 2016 10:23:04
I love how you think calling us The Rangers offends us.

For me i celebrated Championship rangers putting one over on the champions.

25 Aug 2016 11:06:55
