Scottish football is a disgrace, time for real change, here is the way forward, most of the local team supporters will be up in arms. Angus has Dundee, united, st johnstone, brechin, forfar. Sell 4 grounds, keep 20 players, have one team. Aberdeen , inveness, montrose etc, same thing. Lanrkshire the same. Get rid of them all and have 10 teams, they will all have some money with sales of grounds etc.

We have 5m people 42 teams, most of whom are a waste of time. Get down to a reasonable number, the cream will still rise to the top, what cream there is.

Sorry but it was not montrose ,inverness, aberdeen getting humped by a diddy team tonight it was my rangers i'm affraid

Rangers Euro campaign was a non-starter this season, nothing has worked for us, nothing has went in, not getting stonewall penalties and playing against divers. Not excuses just the truth... I feel as gutted as any Rangers fan but I think it's just a euro thing, we showed against Motherwell were a good team and hopefully well continue to be top in the SPL. Our fans unlike the Celtic boo-boys were fantastic all night, sell Edu & Broadfoot and bring in a striker. 4 in a row here we go

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Who would want to buy Edu & Broadfoot?

Celtic fan here in peace. This is truly
a terrible night for scottish football,
the worst i can remember. Both sides
of the old firm have a great history and
should be doing better. Its so bad we
cant even sign decent championship
players. 4 years ago use were in the
final of the uefa cup and celtic were
getting into the last 16 of the
champions league beating teams like
ac milan and man united. Two great
teams who have been fooled by their
owners and have been ripped off in
television deals. Something needs to
be done or it wont be long till the
scottish league is like the irish/welsh.

Or time for a british/ european league?

Cant believe how many fans are showing their true colours now..its about time you all stop your bitching about all our players, stop calling for our managers head and get behind your team. Start getting ibrox full again. When you go to a game if someone starts singing respectable songs near by you sing along with them its about time the fans started noising up the place cus i caqnt remember the last time i heard more than a tiny quater of the stadium making any noise. Yes we're out of europe so are all the other scottish teams. Its a level playing field for the domestic treble now no excuse from either club with no european football to distract us. WATP AND WE WILL LEARN AND IMPROVE. IN McCOIST I TRUST Who agrees?

Believable4 Unbelievable3

Sorry maybe trust, dont know its as simple as that
wont trust him in europe ever again

Ortiz aaarrrrrghh f***ing nightmare but I'm not convinced by Wallace either, not been impressed with him at all so far. Edu is a s**tebag with no first touch, broadfoot is a baby giraffe on a skateboard. Cannae even be arsed ridiculing the rest of the hopeless c8nts Fact is we we're totally reliant on young Wylde to create something tonight, a wee boy at the start of his career,fu*king sad Most of the players should be fu*king ashamed of themselves, I feel like greetin'. If Coisty had given me a couple of hours I could have got a team together to beat maribor.
Ally- there's too many people that are letting you down. You are a legend and deserve the respect that comes with that. Oh aye, and while I'm at it Weiss is a cheeky wee c*nt who needs to learn a bit of respect. After all, he's now been rejected by Rangers and Man City and has achieved the sum total of f*ck all

Baybear

Believable1 Unbelievable4

Biggest let down is Jelly He's walking around feeling sorry for himself since the season kicked off He's been f**king awful. Best player for me tonight was Lafferty. Davis is doing what Ferguson did and when it's going wrong he comes deep and try's to do it all himself, futile ally made a mistake tonight playing Edu, he simply slows the game down, when tonight we needed pace a fluid passing.

Putting all that aside there are bigger problems on our game than our performance tonight. Simply without money in the Scottish game, no-one of any calibre is going to come. The odd gem will be unearthed but thats it. Money rules this game now and Scotland has been left behind. Our game is being run by clowns, clowns that think we can bully Sky Clowns that are considering setting up there own channel again and or can get more money out of Sky Clowns that are being paid too much for f**k all in return.

No good blaming Whyte, no amount of money he has or doesn't have will do Rangers any good when the game around is on it's knees.

Gutted and tired of the same old sht. No doubt the suits will come out with the same old crap and say we are doing all we can to implement change.
The clubs have a duty to abandon there own cause and now seriously consider a 14/16 team league. Perhaps a summer league not this psh they served up this year starting early and causing more harm than good.

Anyway enough for now I'm totally sick.

Come on bears, we were never ready for Europe anyway. We need to develope our young players and turn them into seasoned pros. Build for the future while trying to improve the standard of the squad with the resources we have currently. Celtic and well as us have a responsibility to improve our game and raise the profile. Our game needs major reconstuction we know this. The bowling club commitee at the SFA must go. Support your team and our game roll on the week end.

Just back from the game ab have to ask why Hutton or fleck aren't getting a game. Feel sorry for them watching edu playin before them. Second half I watched him mostly walk back an forward on th same 2 blades of grass, didn't want to take a pass, watched th ball go past him over and over. Davis and jela were always covering his space plugging the holes he was leavin. No money is bad enough, but use other options please mcoist.
Again couldn't make a change, no imagination, no knowledge. No hold of the midfield so ball was goin back to front especially in first half.

remember ally signed 6 players and gave long term contracts to 4 others ( not all played ), they are good enough to have won this but their attitude stinks.
tactics and forward thinking has been missing i.e healy got 7 minutes at the weekend when well ahead but the guy got the best chance but is not match sharp , if had a few more games he would have finnished it. Bad Management.
Tactics as we need to score 2 to be safe and we play a holding mid in edu.
Nothing beats experience , sorry ally come back in 4 years when you have it, Walter had it and did so well with even worse set of players

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Aug 2011 23:03:45
That was abysmal tonight. Davis was our best player tonight and even he was awful. Edu showed some good touches, and Broadfoot was ok...certainly not our worst players by a long shot. Bocanegra and Goian for me looked our stand outs, wouldnt even have known Lafferty and Jelavic were on the pitch. All in, its bad times, we need new management, and new investment because its perfectly clear that Mr Whytes investment promise is either bulls**t or a smokescreen for an ulterior motive. In 3/4 seasons, Scottish football has ended up in the gutter...so depressing.

25 Aug 2011 23:01:15
Let us look at the facts. Since the season finished in may, we knew the european dates. We have little money. Of the players we have signed, two are still unable to play. Why is it end of august we are still looking for a striker. The disgraceful signing policy by making embarrassing bids has cost us £15m by not qualifying for the cl. There was no guarantee that we would have qualified had these players been signed but it would surely have given us a better chance. It is a disgrace that a team like rangers have one striker, not that we will have him for long. However the most depressing thing to me was the lack of passion, only in the last 5 minutes was there any sign. Too little too late. The other depressing thing is the fact that we are signing a 32 year old on a 3 year contract, surely there is a 20 year old somewhere that can run. There is no speed at all in the team, except for wylde. Let me make a prediction bocanegra will be a disaster, and I know he scored tonight, no pace, no height, no future sell on, no nothing. Much as I love mccoist, he looks totally out of his depth, he has no idea how to change a game, in fact the once he did change the game was when he made a substitution in Maribor and look what happened then. There is no point blaming whyte, he is also completely out of his depth, but he inherited mccoist and could not get rid of him, he would have been enemy number 1. I am horrified to think this about the guy that I named my son after, but he has to go, and go now. He has no experience, and rangers is no place to cut your teeth, the last one we had was greig and that was a disaster, the same thing is happening again. Go now

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Utter Nonsense you silly little man, bocanegras good, yeh we should of won and if mculloch naisy bedoya weir bartley whittaker papac were available im sure we would of, broadfoot edu ortiz wylde wouldnt of started tonight the first 3 shouldnt even be at ibrox wylde has potential but he has a lot to learn poor delivery all night..

I would say the face of football has changed in europe ..there is no bad teams now and the sooner everybody realises that the better-especially the fans you the fans dont want to admit this and you are in denial I dont think it would matter if you sacked ally and booted whyte out or even had a whip round and bought the club outright it would,nt make one iota of difference.Better leave ally and whyte to get on with it it may take a season or two but I think they will crack it. Amazingly when ambition is fuelled by the urge to make money there will be improvements all the way down the line the more conversant craig Whyte becomes with the business side of things the better everything will get so just be patient and he will translate that into success on the pitch as well But remember they need time and you lot need time too so start being sensible people Rangers fc is an institution
and you can close down a business but you cant shut down an institution because its supported by the willpower of its supporters the belief that it will rise again against the odds,

All you fans who think jelavic is a player think again boys he's never kicked is arse this season he'd be lucky to get a game in the English championship fact if he's wanting a move take .4million for him let's get real here Gers will never conquer Europe again stuck in a poor league with no money finished finished finished

Guys, around 20 shots on goal. Had our chances, played okay. Just no luck tonight, or all season for that matter. Stick with everyone and more importantly, Ally.
Give him this season to build the squad. We cant just hate everyone and get rid of people if they disappoint. Football is a game of ups and downs. We are just in the downs just now. Keep the faith.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Did not play ok, played s**t

To the guy who said who would blame jelavic for wanting away. Me , if folk stopped putting him on a pedestal and looked closer they would see he ain't that good a striker. Good forward but I would rather see a kris Boyd back at gers. Jelavic is missing sitters all the time and only gets away with it because everyone is complaining about edu. He's not as good as gers fans believe.

in my opinion scottish football has past its glory days. unless there is a major financial change for ALL of the clubs in the spl, then i can safely say that its going to take alot to get out of the mess that we are ALL in

======================================

Unless the SFA man the fluck up and change to an 18 or 20 team format there will be no investment in scottish football. William Hill paid 3m for 3 years to sponsor the Scottish cup. Thats about a 3rd of whats on offer in England for their league cup. With an 18 or 20 team set up with the same as a first division we would allow sponsors to reach a larger audience, making shirt deals etc more appealing and TV deals likewise. More clubs would benefit from getting the bigger teams through thier gates and young players would start to see more value in sticking with a potential football career. I can see it, you can all see it, why the hell cant the SFA see it?

Can anyone tell me who is scouting players these days?

Bocanegra - no better than Perry
Ortiz - rather play Fleck
Edu - rather be a man short
Broadfoot - honest trier
Kerkar - what's the point, 10 mins play in over a year
No strikers
No creative players
No direction and no hope

Hope Bedoya and McKay are better but will reserve judgement after seeing this lot

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Did you actually see the game tonight, Bocanegra had a decent game, was better at left back but did o.k in the center - his use of the ball was intelligent and he constantly fed wylde who but about 100 crosses into the box, he also popped up and scored our goal, not a bad debut, The rest of your post is a rant - WATP

I personally dont blame Ally alone. Its the entire club to blame. I mean the team choices ally has chosen at the ever since he has started has been poor quite regularly, ortiz on left, edu and mculloch in centre, davis on right. but then you have to look at Craig Whyte, who i cant thank enough for getting rangers out of their debt, but in the transfer market he has been beyond poor. We didnt get the players in fast enough for these 4 european matches and its left us with an average squad of players who need to get the finger out. But i will cheer my team on till the day i die. The league will be ours, but the team and the staff need to get the finger out.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2011 22:51:33
mr whyte simply has to respectfully relieve ally of duties. The squad that mccoist has is good enough to defeat malmo and maribor over two legs. The reason we failed in malmo was mccoist fault poor management led to poor discipline from whittaker and bougherra, mccoist said so himself ,poor discipline again from naismith led to mccoist having to take him off against maribor then change his formation thus leading to losing two goals . As for tonights game ,where was the 3 rd sub surely kerkhar should have been brought on . Also as far as the signing policy mccoist was asked tonight if he had a list of top priorty signings that he hasnt managed to get and has had to go for players further down his list with less quality and he basically in a round about way agreed ,if he was worthwhile strong manager he wouldnt settle for third rate players sorry ally u where my hero growing up but go now and bring in george graham outta work for years rangers man thru and thru with years of experience if not him give butch wilkins a chance or better still get souness back ,bet u the first thing he would do is kick edus arse out the famous blue gates .

Believable0 Unbelievable2

If it was McCoist on the park instead of Jelavic and Lafferty, we would have been in the faking groups stages, - stop blaming the Manager for the players inability to stick the ball in the net from 5 yards ffs

McCoist was very hesitant when asked about transfers......where is the money we were promised by Whyte?

Spent on that wee blonde next to him at Ibrox tonight by the looks of things.

Walter Smith got by with a sqaud of 18 players Warriors. Watch 300, quality not quantity.

This team is lack quality, not numbers......Davis does a disgusting amount of work for a team full of imposters. He needs help as does Jelavic.

Anyone who wants to stand up for Ortiz wants to have a look at themself....he's 29 and you cant develop pace at that age. His delivery is poor and his tackling is clumsy.

Where do we go from here? Suppose we can forget about any quality arriving? Week left and "4.5m" to spend? We will see.

Celtic fan just pooping on to say bad luck. I did not watch your match but say some highlights and it seems from the stats that you should have thumped them. Sometime things just do not go right for you no matter what you do. Hope McCoist gets some time as it would be a bit unfair to sack him. He was a legend for you guys and it seems that the problem may lie with your new owner - not the manager. Anyway, bad luck tonight.

Be as well getting rid of this page after that. Who the f*** is gonna want to come to a team who can't even QUALIFY for the Europa League? Scottish football is a total joke, and we're never gonna fix it. Full of bigots and pub teams. Now we're gonna have to watch our prized assets leave for better teams. We are supposed to be one of the biggest clubs in the world yet get beat by a team noone has ever heard of. Give the young lads a go and get that useless donkeys (Ortiz, Broadfoot, Edu, etc) on the next plane outta here Either that or get some proper quality into the team, which will now be impossible without European football as a lure, nobody wants to come and play St Mirren, Dunfermline and Aberdeen week in week out. Said this on the Celtic page aswell guys. Whoever wins the league this season should savour the champions league next season coz it will be the last time we see a Scottish team in there for many years to come. Our game is in serious decline and soon enough we will lose the 1 qualifying champs league place altogether. We will find ourselves in the Fulham scenario of playing 3 europa league qualifiers with the difference being the Scottish team wont make it. Very concerned.

For those of you who doubt mccoist:

Give him a break. He has just started his managerial career and imo got alot of the tactics right. He started Wylde and played ortiz on the left and remember he was very limited with who he could play due to suspensions and injuries.

In the end, after the players step past the white line onto the pitch its up to them, and they did not perform. With the exception of Goian, i thought every other rangers player looked lazy and like they had given up for the first 75mins of the game, which simply is not good enough.

the worst thing is, I dont think we can expect on quality coming in anyway. By not being able to sell europe to a player what are we offering 'hey you, come and play in the SPL for us on a 10k a week salary'

Very sad day for Rangers and Scottish football in general

And the signings we have made, with the exception of Goian, are utter S***.

Goian - Impressive
Bartley - Already Knew About Him

Wallace - Undecided
Bocanegra - Unipressive
Ortiz - Unimpressive
Bedoya - If he was any good wouldn't have been playing in Sweden
McKay - If he was any good wouldn't be playing in Australia

We missed out on ALL our main targets:

Goodwillie, Hemed, Miller, Verhoek, Juhasz, Cuellar.

This is the reason he has never backed him with cash Also heard that Whyte is friends with Billy Davies and he has been on stand by since Whyte took over As i said it is just rumours i have heard i dont know how much truth is in it

The inquest must start from the top. The chairman has to take the blame for the total lack of investment in 'quality' players. The manager has to be held accountable for the utterly unacceptable tactics and general inability to pick the correct team of the mediocre players he has available to him. Players like Edu, Ortiz and Healy should be nowhere near the Rangers team. If we have no money then now is the time to put faith entirely in the youth coming through the ranks. We must copy the Ajax system. Play them all, give them experience, let them shine. Only the best will make it, the others can be moved on. It's the only way ahead.

I also feel Rangers (and Celtic) should not have rookie managers in charge, both clubs are way too big for anyone to be finding their feet at managerial level. Love you Ally, you're a legend but I feel we need somebody with more experience to lead us forward. Walter Smith must not come back either. We need somebody with experience but also with superior tactical knowledge with an emphasis on developing the best youngsters into first team stars. IT IS THE ONLY WAY AHEAD.

Here are some facts for all the doubters coming on here:

Can't fault the effort second half but probably needed the crowd at its best from the beginning. I think some folk just want McCoist and Whyte to fail so they can say "I told you so"

23 shots on goal over the game and maybe if Healy had been match sharp who knows...

Missing Naismith who I believe to be our best and most consistent player and has genuine spark

Good performances from Ross Perry and Gregg Wylde.

Defeated by the champions of Sweden and the champions of Slovenia ranked 18 and 23 respectively,
even though we should have wiped the floor with them what gives a country ranked 55 the right to think that we can automatically beat these teams. 1 win in 24 European games should prove that McCoist is not the problem

Yes it is disappointing that we are out of Europe so let's channel that and use the frustration to wipe the floor with the Septic with a full squad of players to choose from

Come on, WATC so don't sink to Their level. Get behind the team starting with the Sheep on Sunday

We may not be signing Laudrup's but we are starting to shape up. With a bit of luck we could have won. Ally got players in late. I honestly think we are only a couple of players away from being a team that can move forward. A quality/ creative midfielder- cant say if thats mackay and possibly a striker. silly bookings cost us players and we need to stop this.the defence looked tighter and will get better as they get a better understanding and the young players Perry and McMillan should get more of a chance along with wilde and ness. The future isnt that black we can and will bounce back- in Ally we should trust. Give him time

Would have been nice to play in Europe but it's in the past now so let's look forward instead of backwards and support ally till the end of the season and see how he does before we decide to call for peoples heads

Don't expect any new players at ibrox in the next week. Firstly why would any EPL team loan a player to any Scottish club when there is no European football for their 'youngsters' to gain experience. Secondly, even if mr whyte decides to open the cheque book again, what is the attraction in playing for rangers this season? Let's face it no one will come purely to pick up a huge salary and ride it out in the hope of European football next year, we cannot afford huge salaries. I genuinely hope something happens with the fox network in USA and we can generate an additional income stream. In my opinion the old firm need to work together on everything, it makes deals more attractive to sponsors, kit suppliers, tv revenue. Its time we were best pals off the park and rivals on it.

Can't believe we have fallen so far behind even the also rans in European football. Pumped out of europe twice by two sides which were extremely limited. Not looking to slate ally but the quality of our play is shocking. Not only is there no pattern to our play, we continually result to playing long balls into the box hoping for any scraps at best. Is this because they are so poor they Dont have the abilty Or brains to follow even a simple game plan. It's a bad day when you have to rely on a young Greg Wylde to create anything. Clear to see that the guys we are now bringing in are probably of a poorer standard than the young guys we are trying to bring through. Bocanegra and Ortiz are not any better than the quality of a mid table SPL side. Edu don't even go there Definitely fear for us going forward. Hoping that this is a watershed moment and the club realise that shopping at Lidl won't get you players to embellish the local talent we have in Naismith, Wallace, McGregor, Ness.

only way we can hope for improvement is getting to the prem, both us and celtic should investigate if we could rebrand in scotland as Rangers/Celtic B, register Rangers/Celtic in the english div and work up from conference.

The both of us could find investors for the change as the rewards after 5/6 yrs of getting to the prem would be insane for both sides.

Failing that a euro league with teams from, Holland, Belgium, Scandinavia etc coz the top leagues are monopolising everything and the cash isnt in scotland isnt there and will never be. Reality is 80% of football fans in scotland are old firm fans so we have squeeezed all we can. Bad times pie ahead unless something dramatic happens

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Running away to a different league is not the answer, anyways the english would never have us we have tried and tried and its never gonna happen. Sky dont need rangers/celtic in the EPL as they already have a fantastic brand so why change it. never goona happen. what we have to do is look at the SPL see what we can do better, bring back the reserve league there is so much talent out there we will never see it as it gets swallowed up. this can be a great league we just have to look at our setup.

Mr Whyte must do one of two things now 1-sack ally and get a manager he feels will do a job 2-give ally a huge cash injection for new players that can take this club to the next level. again guys you can give me pelters if you wish but how many more games like this will we see before the axe falls....

So the autposy starts now, whos to blame for Rangers (and scottish footballs) failings in europe? Is it McCoist? at the end of the day he picks the team, a team that lacked creativity, movement and a cutting edge. Or is it Whyte? no major signings in the close season before the malmo game which meant we went into the double header with a wafer thin squad. A distinct lack of funds have become apparent even though he has promised to back the boss and bartering over the smallest fees meant that we were shown up time and again in the media. Is it Gordon Smith? do we really need a director of football? what does he actually do? or is it a deeper lying problem that is not solely attributed to this club, is it Scottish footballs lack of competition, verging on amateurish clubs playing in the PREMIER league and poor tv revenue from sky who it seems are still punishing us for moving to setanta. Or does it go further in that we are not producing the type of talent that we were used to seeing in the past. There will be a knee jerk reaction to the result and the usual cries of Sack McCoist will cry out loud but if you stand back and look at Scottish footballs results tonight do we now have to realise that we are cannot now look down on these clubs and expect to brush them aside with ease. I dont claim to have the answers to the questions posed because it might not be down to one individual and may be down to contributing factors from all of these. I

Believable3 Unbelievable0

You should have went to Uni and done Philosophy... Easy answer is get better players, sack the crap ones, develop the youth (which no Scottish team can say they do as we don't have any football schools) and get a decent scouting team set up (sack the current ones)

Agree0 Disagree0

Sky are not punishing us they are simply paying for what they get. take out the old firm who else pays to watch these games. would u watch st mirren v aberdeen or would u rather watch Man Utd v Liverpool. we are never going to get a great tv deal as we are the lidl to englands M&S. we need to strat from grass root football the SFA should invest in youth thats the way forward. everybody has to look at themself from the SFA SPL to the chairmen, the lower leagues bring on most of there youth players as they dont have the funds, and when was the last time you went to a local team the football is better. what we need is a reality check

Dont want Ally scked or anyone saying sack the board we must keep supporting the team. I for one have been critical of the transfer policy this summer. More players should have been brought in before the Malmo game. That would have given us more of a chance of european football this season.

Hope all the fans that were saying we would qualify into europa league are now having a good hard look at the situation we now face ourself in.

We are now ranked lower than we have ever been before and could have next year the same embarassing situation we have this year...NO EUROPEAN FOOTBALL

A little speculation to accumulate would have been nice by a business man we are told Whyte is.

However we must go on and win the title and learn from what has happened this year in europe. We haven't in the past but we bloody better quick or we will really be in the proverbial....Billy

This isn't all Ally's fault, lets be realistic. Our league is in a serious state, there is no competition for Rangers and Celtic. This is the first time in 50 years that there is no scottish team in Europe. That says it all. Scottish football needs something and it needs it quickly. Our co-efficient will be disasterous in 2013 after this season. Whyte baught Rangers but there is hardly any money, we are spending 100K's instead of a couple of million on players, its no wonder we are second rate.

In my humble opinion i would have to say that there was only 5 players on that pitch today that deserved to wear the jersey, they were Jelavic, Bocanegro, Goian, Davis and Wylde. The rest of the team was rediculous. Broadfoot, Edu, Lafferty, Ortiz...i'm sorry but everytime they play we lose or draw...

The SFA needs to stand up now and take note of this, we need an injection of serious money, or a new Atlantic League, or a far better Marketing and PR company to promote our football.

There is only Rangers and Celtic...maybe it can't be repaired. Lets just hope Scotland win against Czech Rep, Lithuania and Lechtinstein so that we aren't a TOTAL joke throughout Europe

Believable2 Unbelievable4

Not ally fault at all. totally agree.

Sir Alex would struggle to do anything with s**t players Broadfoot, Ortiz, Healy, and Edu.

We have 3 players in that side that if we were all honest we would admit they are the best as we can get, Mcgregor, Jelavic and Davis...

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

I for one thought laff did alright, beat a few folk on a number of occasions. Its the whole team that are to blame. Broadfoot was ok and Edu didn't do alot wrong... the whole team are to blame

Agree0 Disagree0

The set up lets the crap teams play against the crap teams. You saw that tonight. Perhaps in 2013 we will get a team we can beat.

Agree0 Disagree0

You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink. Yes Ally picks the team and chooses the tactics but he isnt playing it for them

The problem is the SPL. Rangers and Celtic need to set up 2 new teams and apply to join the English Conference, forget about the SPL. Field the reserves in the SPL, send all our squad players to England and watch the new Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic progress through the leagues and i guarantee you they are both in the EPL by 2020

McCoist was a good servant for rangers, but never had the experience in management for a club as big as Rangers. Whyte needs to act now with his money or replace manager with someone with experience like Billy Davis or Wilkins

So that's why Healy doesn't get a game

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Cant blame Healy, sitting on the bench all the time he needs game time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Another james beattie. Still... would have put all my money and all the money i'd ever earn on him to score that sitter. Maybe shouldn't have taken the touch and smashed it in first time.

You dont need game time to score that...for 10k i'd have scored 40 goals for them

Sad sad night for Scottish football. Someone somewhere must have an answer to the problem.

Youth must be the answer, but do we live in a cultural society where

Not going out and getting hammered with your mates is not cool.

Young players learning the game are told to " get rid of it"

Surely in this day and age you should be able to choose football as an entire subject at school learning everything from diets to training methods to actually learning tactics and putting them into match practice and managing mini games.

Think about the future.

Oranjeboom

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Exactly, where was the youth that did so well, grow some and take a chance, in my eyes I have never felt so low

Very good point Oranjeboom. I agree, we need more competitiveness and more money for the government put into ALL sports as its not just football we're slipping behind in. Basketball is in a FAR FAR FAR worse state in this country.

Hearts destroyed, Celtic 1-0 down and a defender sent off so they are as good as out.
Thanks alot, now we will go down on the coefficent and have to play 3 Champions League qualifiers along with teams from Malta and Andorra etc.

To avoid 3 qualifying rounds disrupting our pre-season preparations next Summer, all we can do is win the Europa League. I beleive we are capable of it and it would also salvage a bit of Scottish football's dignity.

Gago, who out of contract in 2013, is studying the proposal of Rome Luis Enrique and Glasgow Rangers as a last resort. The cost is eight million. The Argentine has assumed that has no place in Real Madrid. The problem is finding an entity that pays its 2.2 million annual tab net.

I really do not buy into this 'Bring back Weiss' or Diouf for that matter. We won the league by a small margin last season with these two not contributing a great deal. We need to be looking at players who will come in and make the team better so as we can hopefully progress in Europe and maintain our domestic domination. At present I am not convinced that we are stronger than last season and wasting our funds on these two will ensure that our chances of improving are minimal.

If Weiss didn't slate McCoist in the paper he might still have had a chance of a deadline loan move to Rangers, I think he was quite right to express his opinion and disappointment for not being able to return to Rangers as even when he was still a Man City player and had been with the club years he said Rangers fans are the best in the world and how much he loves our club, I also think McCoist is right not to pay millions for him because we can't afford to splash out on one youngster. I would love it of McCoist went for it tonight, even if we went out of Europe having a real go, instead of trying to sneak it with a 1-0 and still coming undone, I think with this line up it's possible to entertain and also qualify

McGregor

McMillan Bocanegra Goain Wallace

Hutton
Ortiz Ness Wylde

Davis
Jelavic

My only other change would be Lafferty for Hutton with Davis dropping to a 4 man midfield

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Think ness is inhured

Agree0 Disagree0

Slightly unrealistic as i think dropping davis from the centre of midfield would be our own undoing id go:

McGregor

McMillan Boc Goian Wallace

Ortiz Davis Ness/Hutton Wylde

Laff Jela

Although i feel that its definate that Edu or mculloch or both will play unfortunatly

Agree0 Disagree0

I know people hate the 3-5-2 but with Whitts and Naisy along with Ortiz ability to play full back we should go.

McGregor

Perry Goian Bocanegra

Ortiz Edu Ness Wallace

Davis

Laffs Jelavic

Wallace and Ortiz can work the wings. If Ness aint fit then McCulloch will have to do. We could also replace Bocanegra with Papac later on to keep it tight. Wylde deserves a run out but I think he should come on after an hour.

The one thing that I want to see is Ally making a substitution within the first 75 mins. It drives me up the wall when we look shattered and dont change anything.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

He would be a good addition to the team but his wage's would be a bit steep and he's older now and probs cost around 3 to 4 million mate. Ger4life

Weiss was too hot and cold (Mainly cold). He improved later on in the season and then got injured. I think that if he comes back he would undoubtedly get better. However fellow bears, we cannot stump up 3-3.5m on a risk, I understand we were looking as if we were going to pay 3m for juhasz and possibly 2m for verohek, but they fell through.

McCoist said one or two signings before the window shuts, after tonights result we will see what he does.

Weiss for 2m would be a good bit of business.

It angers me that people come on here stating that weiss should come back. One minute people are saying do not bring back ex bears such as cuellar and miller. Mccoist wants to put his own stamp on the team. Weiss would be a good addition but for 3 million I think we could spend elsewhere. This lad obviously knows clubs are interested in him and he is just getting all of his options before making a decision which is fair enough. Again I think we should spend that sort of money elsewhere on players who have hunger and raw talent.

Rangers (1) vs NK Maribor (2)
UEFA Europa League
Ibrox Stadium
25th August 2011
Kick Off 19:30

A must win game surrounded by high stakes and a fresh bout of controversy. Surprisingly, this is nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to Rangers playing in Europe.

If the players were having any trouble in finding motivation for this game then they must surely have got it when they heard the news that Maribor would be challenging the eligibility of Rangers newest recruit Carlos Bocanegra.

The big American defender pushed through an 11th hour transfer from St Etienne last week to play his part in the 1st leg of the tie but was unable to compete against Motherwell at the weekend due to not having the suitable paperwork available to play in the United Kingdom. Maribor have asked for an explanation of how it was possible for Bocanegra to play in one competition but not the other, even though the transfer and Bocanegra’s inclusion in the squad last week was cleared by the SFA.

Despite all the goings on over the last 24 hours, Bocanegra is expected to take his place in the centre of defence alongside the Romanian stopper, Dorin Goian. His inclusion will more than likely see Ross Perry drop to the bench as he continues to fill the gaps in the squad left by the suspended Steven Whittaker and the injured trio of Kyle Bartley, David Weir and Sasa Papac. Kirk Broadfoot is rated doubtful for the game also so Jordan McMillan is expected to continue at right back.

In midfield, Jamie Ness is expected to the miss the game through injury but Maurice Edu returns from suspension and there is hope (from Ally McCoist at least) that Lee McCulloch will be fit for the game. Steven Naismith will miss the game through suspension which may see Gregg Wylde start for the second game in a row as Rangers seek some attacking edge to overturn the 1st leg defeat.

I no I don't speak for the majority of Rangers fans when I say this but because it is Europe and for the benefit of Scottish football I really do hope the Septic win tonight because lets face it without you lot and us where would Scottish football be. I cant stress how important tonight's games are Septic and Rangers both need to win or it will backfire on us BADLY Because if we don't qualify Scotland will drop 12 places and we will need to play 4 qualifiers for Champions league and 3 for Europa. Good luck Septic Tonight I say 1-1 and oh when you get back and play St Mirren................ A hope you get humped ;)) Lee.

Ally McCoist says it would be a brave decision to drop Ross Perry, Jordan McMillan and Gregg Wylde for the Europa League fixture.

Ally McCoist would have no concerns
over pitching a number of his young
stars in to their crunch Europa
League play-off round match with
Maribor on Thursday night.

Ross Perry, Jordan McMillan and
Gregg Wylde all started Rangers’ 3-0
win at Motherwell at the weekend,
with the former pair making their first
SPL starts for the club.

Other experienced players such as Carlos Bocanegra are back in contention for the second leg match against the Slovenians but McCoist says it isn’t a given they will come straight back into the side,

“I believe they did well enough to merit an opportunity against any team,” said McCoist. “You could say circumstances got them the chance, I wouldn't argue with that.

“But, at the same time, if you are given a chance and you take that chance, it would be a brave manager who wouldn't give youth that chance again.

"We are playing a team at home in what is a massive game for us but Sunday's game was a big game for us because we came off a poor result on Thursday night, we were going to a team at the top of the table, a team who hadn't lost a goal, and our young lads handled it well.

“That was very encouraging and, from that point of view, I wouldn't have any fears about playing them against anybody.”

Rangers go into the second leg 2-1 down from their visit to Slovenia, and McCoist knows it is vital his team do well for both themselves and the greater good of the Scottish game.

“I can only speak for our own club and it is important. We all have a responsibility to do our best for the co-efficient and we will do that,” said the Gers boss.

“This is an opportunity for us to do our bit and we know how difficult the task will be but it's not something we are shirking from. We feel we can do it and we will give it our best shot.”

I still think we need at least a left
mid / winger, & a proven goal scorer.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

A lot of folk are saying we need a left winger/midfielder but with Wylde and Makay I think we're covered. Plus Wallace could play there if Papac came in at LB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mckay, bedoya, wylde & naisy will/ could cover the left side even wallace a super sasa could fill in there- i totally agree with the striker we are desperate for some one with a goal or 2 in them, get beattie/healy off the books both a waste of wages and big davie wier to become a coach end of season

Mate's wife works with K McDowalls Cousin. Tells me Weiss DID have a fallout with Mcoist. Prob bollox as he told me last week Gattuso was signing... got me thinking tho... if you look at the 1st team just now, we are on a winner ALL the best players from last season, the ones who WANT to play for us, are signed up. The new Yank players ALL play with their heart on their sleeves and last but not least we have the back up of the best crop of young talent in the country, all gagging to do well... all of a sudden I'm RITE up for it again. We are gonna DESTROY that mob tonight then get wired RITE intae the SPL

look's like we r waitin on the epl team's making the 25 man squad list..with both spurs & chelsea open to loan moves hopefully get a couple of them to add to the squad BUT think our own youngsters can do the job..unless its good prospects we should go out and get a striker on perm deal

IMO we won't sign a new striker but hope i'm wrong, we have jelavic, Lafferty, Healy, Naismith can play up front & unfotunately don't forget Beattie.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I think we need to forget Beattie, he never even gets in the squad.

The scottish sun has reported that a letter sent to Maribor by a celtic fan/fans is the reason Rangers were investigated by UEFA.

To compound Gers' fury, there have been claims Celtic supporters tipped off Maribor about Bocanegra's eligibility issues.

One Hoops fans' website has published a letter supposedly sent to Slovenia's 'cultural attache'.

The anonymous letter allegedly states: "I think it appropriate to draw the following fact to your attention.

"When Maribor FC of Slovenia played Rangers the Scottish club fielded an ineligible player.

"The US citizen Bocanegra was signed just before the match, but he does not have the necessary visa to play for the club in the UK. This should have rendered him ineligible for the match, but he was included in the side anyway and played in the game.

"Despite being a proud citizen of Scotland I am also an upholder of the Corinthian spirit, and a fierce defender of the rules of fair play.

"As such I feel strongly this flagrant breach of UEFA rules should be brought to the attention of Maribor and to UEFA. This should certainly result in the tie being awarded to the Slovenians."

The Slovenian Embassy last night refused to deny the document was sent to them.

Maribor officials also declined to confirm what triggered their complaint as they trained at Ibrox last night.

Spokesman Zeljko Latin said: "At the moment we are here to play the game with Rangers.

"We made the complaint to UEFA because we felt we should.

"I can't comment on what we'll do next or if we will exercise our right to an appeal.

"We have three days from today to do that. We are here to play first."

The simmering feud took a fresh twist last night as details of the UEFA ruling became clear.

Hope the Scum all know that if Rangers are kicked out they have the right to sue SFA for loss of earnings 7 home games plus tournament prize money well over £10million

As a Celtic supporter I would like to say that I think that If this is true then Its well out of order. With the current state of scottish football at a low point with regards to co efficitiancy etc this does nothing to help our game as a whole and is extremely damaging to say the least. We have to put our rivalry to one side when It comes to europe to to increase the the profile of a league that has been in decline for the last few years. Last season was an all time low in terms of off field exposure for our game and I really hope that we are not going to see the same thing this season. We all know that both clubs are cursed with a few bad apples who seem more interested in their rivals instead of supporting their own team. Rivalry in terms of domestic competition is one thing but when It comes to europe we have to put that to one side for the greater good. Good luck tonight.

Well it really does show how far they will go to try and damage our great club. I have to laugh at the 'fierce defender of the rules of fair play'..........aye right

Ed do you think rangers could afford to buy marvin emnes from middlesbrough as he has been in great form and he would be a great partner for big jela up front {Ed001's Note - no, a couple of English Prem sides are watching him closely, I doubt Rangers could compete on wages.}

ed on the spot...if you were to recommend two strikers to Mr Whyte and Mccoist who would they be. realisticly? {Ed001's Note - I have been thinking this one over all day, since you posted it, and trying to think of two within budget who would be worth a punt. All I could come up with are Jordan Rhodes of Huddersfield Town and Paul Anderson of Nottingham Forest.}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

What about Nicky Maynard?

Gazza89 {Ed001's Note - too expensive, he would cost well over 5m as Bristol have already rejected offers over that amount.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul Anderson is a winger Ed. {Ed001's Note - Anderson is a striker who can play on the wings, not a winger at all, his crossing isn't good enough.}
