Said in a post on here when we first signed connor goldson, that he's a very similar styled centre half, to the tremendous ex west ham utd, ex leeds utd and ex man utd centre half, big rio ferdinand! The more i've seen goldson, the more my comparison i believe is correct! He most certainly has a lot of the same attributes in his locker, as big rio possessed. If you like a poor man's rio ferdinand! What a signing from gerrard, getting goldson for £3million! What an absolute steal! The only thing here is that its certain that clubs will bid to sign him. We will have to fight off interest in him, that's for sure!

24 Aug 2018 20:45:22
He certainly has been magnificent so far however let’s see how he has done after the 2nd of September and where the team is before lavishing too much praise. Hopefully we will still be in Europa league and will have beaten them.

24 Aug 2018 20:58:35
Agree about Goldson but also like the look of Katic. This young guy looks the business as well.

24 Aug 2018 21:27:38
I agree with you jaws. Katic has also been superb and is learning all the time, playing beside goldson! Really impressed with our centre half pairing, of goldson and katic! Superb signings, by our superb manager,
steven gerrard! Our supporters absolutely love gerrard already!

25 Aug 2018 09:03:37
Great signing but still believe, as does SG, that was a mistake to let the big lad Bates go. As our back up CD he would have improved dramatically in the current environment.

25 Aug 2018 09:19:57
Bates is sh*te.

25 Aug 2018 11:54:37
I wish you would stop comparing players to others, you compared holt to durrant and docherty to davis, you said mckay would be the next big thing, you said pena would be a top player after two goals at st johnstone and look where they are now. You'll jinx goldson if you keep this up👍.

25 Aug 2018 15:38:40
Frank mcpartland and Warburton would be legends and there would be statues of them outside ibrox was a favourite of mine fae coops coldo lol.

I think Kilmarnock should pay murphy's wages ;)

25 Aug 2018 20:19:19
Kilmarnock have enough trouble trying to pay their own wages and boydie boys dinner money ( treble puds during the week I heard and an undisclosed number of pies) every day.

24 Aug 2018 16:30:25
Think we're still needing a bit of creativity up front and to replace Murphy it would be good if Gerrard could use his Liverpool contacts again and get ojo or even markovic both would be useful additions.

24 Aug 2018 16:11:02
Good performance last night should have scored maybe at least one more but another win and shut out. Poor show from the officials.

Now to my main point big laff. I think he will be a great signing and will get between 15 n 20 goals this season my only concern is what I noticed last night was when he came on we appeared to move to the high ball. Imo I think we are so much more effective when we play the ball on the deck.
I know that we need another centre half and poss a left winger and a attacking midfielder but i still think we still need another pen box striker because if morelas get suspended or injured then we are left with 2 target men in laff and sadiq. History has shown that big guys like that are never prolific in scoring thoughts guys.

24 Aug 2018 17:49:41
Wouldn't describe Lafferty or sadiq as target men, at 6 ft 4 Lafferty is big enough but I don't think aerial ability is his main strength.

24 Aug 2018 18:13:36
Stewartyyblue. Lafferty scored 30 odd goals for us in 4 years previously. And has barely got into double figures at his other clubs. What makes you think he'll get near 20 goals this season?

24 Aug 2018 20:17:13
Maybe because he scored 19 goals for a pishy hearts team and four against them . he will be a better player now than the one that left .

24 Aug 2018 20:24:30
That was one of my main points 're another striker we lose morelas where are the goals coming from. Ps if he gets 19 for a poor hearts I would be expecting the same at least from a good gers team.

Bgate crouch Martin carroll ect all seen as target men meaning tall and good in the air and not pen box poacher strikers.

24 Aug 2018 22:52:49
Just because he scored 19 for Hearts doesn't mean he'll do that for us. Teams play different against Hearts than they do against us. They'll sit in and defend in deeper numbers and therefore be harder to break down. He won't get as much space and will have to work harder to find goals. Hopefully he does but I don't expect anywhere near 20 from him. I'll be happy to be proved wrong tho!

24 Aug 2018 15:46:17
for such a young and new team i think we are jelling nicely still a long way to go but the feel good factor is back and if it continues i can see half the team getting called up to there respective national teams including connor goldson well done to stevie G, all the players and backroom/ board staff and to the best fans in the world keep believing.

24 Aug 2018 18:29:57
No chance Connor Goldson will get near the England team playing in Scotland in a million years. The English class us as a pub league.

24 Aug 2018 15:06:06
I was chatting to a few mates yesterday about Lafferty. If the 2012 issues never actually materialised do the fans think that Lafferty would have still been a Rangers player today?

24 Aug 2018 15:33:48
Doesn’t really matter tbh. What’s done is done.

Need to move on and look to the future. I’m happy to have him back, can only improve the team.

24 Aug 2018 15:59:20
Bear mode I think he will do well also but his career certainly went journeyman since he left Rangers. The question was could he have become a key figure back then or would he always have had to leave to mature?

24 Aug 2018 14:14:12
Just realised I'm going to miss the second half of the game next Thursday as I'll be working at Paul Gascoigne's chat event at Perth Theatre. Who organised that? Did they not realise we'd still be in Europe?

24 Aug 2018 18:30:44
Quit your job. Easy solution.

24 Aug 2018 14:06:54
Afternoon chaps,

Does anybody know if Barisic IS cup tied for the group stages .

Also

I am a little concerned about the lack of goals from our midfielders . I think Murphy and Coulibaly have one each but nothing from Candeis, Arfield, Kent, Jack, Ejaria, Middleton, Mcrorie. I know some of these have had limited minutes but at the moment we are relying on Tav, Goldson and Morelos. If Morelos get injured / suspended or form loss I can't see where the goals are coming from.

24 Aug 2018 14:13:13
Maybe if he gets injured or suspended (more likely) then the player who takes his place will score from the chances we create. That's their job, although it doesn't matter who scores as long as it's us. It is often easier for people making runs from very deep to score as the attentions of defenders are concentrated on the main strikers and attackers.

24 Aug 2018 14:36:44
Re Middleton getting game time I think you can see the lad has confidence to make things happen, it might be a good idea to give him 60mins. then bring on Ryan Kent to see how it works out. His age shouldn't be an issue- Rooney, Dalglish, DJ.
Some of our players in the past looked promising, Walsh, Aird, Gallacher etc. but this lad is the real deal IMO.
For some older fans he reminds me of Alex Scott who, s main asset was his speed to go past full backs and get a cross in.

24 Aug 2018 14:46:09
Middleton is not ready.

Last night he was a one trick pony who bombed up the wing to the byeline. Great crosses etc but as soon as they figured him out he went quiet.

Kent did plenty to justify his starting place.

24 Aug 2018 14:48:01
“Bud” Middleton on the wing.

24 Aug 2018 15:25:04
"Lack of goals from our midfielders", - and yet Windass got so much grief. Where are his goals being replaced from?

24 Aug 2018 15:38:42
Struth72 we're still scoring, but far more importantly we've fixed the leaks first. Now we can turn the tap full on as the season progresses.

24 Aug 2018 15:42:10
Seems other guys think your not a gers fan. you banned me a while ago for absolutely nothing. You said " I have'nt seen YOU play yet" Who is YOU? . I think you run a few fans sites.

{Ed001's Note - If you got banned it was clearly for a reason and the fact I run the whole set of football-rumours sites is not a secret. What is your point? That you have only just realised after 17 years of the football-rumours sites that I am not a Rangers fan, even though it has been on my profile the whole time who I support? Ed039 is the Rangers fan.}

24 Aug 2018 17:07:54
DK17 to be fair Kent did a lot of huffing and puffing, he puts in effort he gets back and makes challenges, but I will disagree with you on Middleton, Kent had 60-70 mins and didn't really produce anything, Middleton was on for 15 mins and beat his man 3 or 4 times. Also I Kent hasn't had a single goal or assist in all of his performances so far (I don't think) so in that respect I am not overly impressed by him, I believe Middleton with a run in the team would get assists and maybe some goals but that's just my opinion mate, I don't think Kent's a bad player but he is going to have to produce some end product soon.

24 Aug 2018 17:45:17
Huntywallsend my understanding if we make group stages Barasic is then free to play it's only the qualifiers he's cup tied for.

24 Aug 2018 13:02:29
Ed 001 have you been watching rangers to see how Gerrard Is getting on? And if so how do you think he is doing so far? He's got off to a good start I must say.

{Ed001's Note - I have to be honest I haven't seen you play yet. Results have been excellent though. Seems to be doing well with recruitment as well, though that is not entirely down to him.}

24 Aug 2018 14:05:23
Ed? Are you a Tim?

{Ed001's Note - what a stupid question.}

24 Aug 2018 14:35:12
theboyisblue, oh dear.

24 Aug 2018 14:53:12
It’s just cause you said I haven’t seen yours play just a wee observation.

{Ed001's Note - and your first thought was 'he must be a tim' because someone hasn't watched Rangers play? You could have easily clicked on my name and seen what team I support.}

24 Aug 2018 14:58:01
Ed, do they stick you in a black box way a bottle of watter!
Start watching the Gers fur goodness sake 😭✌️🇬🇧🇬🇧.

{Ed001's Note - it is not that easy, I am a long way from Scotland and the only time SPFL footie is on TV is the same time as the English Prem. As most of the sites I run are English Prem sites, I make a point of watching those games.}

24 Aug 2018 11:27:27
I thought the ref was letting the game flow, then I thought maybe he's forgot to pick up his cards! then well I'll not say what I thought.
Ejaria was superb, he's only 20yrs. old Maybe it never quite happened in the first half, but I think you have to give ufa some credit, they slowed the game down and made it very difficult for us, put the shoe on the other foot if we do to them what they did to us, without conceding, I think we will all be very happy minus finger nails!

24 Aug 2018 11:46:50
Yep, Ufa played similar to how we played against Maribor away, thankfully I don't think they have the quality to do damage to us.

They look a fairly poor team that's just solid and well drilled.

Hopefully when they're forced to actually push forward they'll leave plenty of gaps to exploit or they just do the same thing and defend which means we just keep the ball, look for the odd opening and win.

Of course it's never that easy but hopefully things go that way, getting through to the group stage means more European football for us fans, more money for players next year and improves our profile as a team and makes us a better proposition for bringing in players.

Just now I just want us to get one over on Motherwell, after their recent comments they deserve getting spanked and sent home with their tail between their legs.

24 Aug 2018 14:35:51
I'm convinced we will score over there. If we do I'm certain they will not score 3.

24 Aug 2018 11:14:54
Little bit disappointed that we couldn't get another goal last night, however, it is encouraging that even when we are not playing particularly well/ a wee bit off the pace that we can still find a way to get a result in our favour. It's a good sign.

One thing that really bugs me when playing at home is like last night when we are 1 up and we are being frustrated by the opposition, a lot of fans bark at the team rather than rally them on, I had two absolute bangers behind me last night roaring at every pass that didn't go forward and shouting things like 'Ryan Jack you're sh*te'.

If you are somebody who does this, please don't come back, let somebody else get your ticket, you're clueless. These are the same folk that moan about the Union Bears.

This is European football, no walk in the park.

24 Aug 2018 12:04:01
Completely agree 100% Bearmode 👏🏽.

24 Aug 2018 12:28:30
I often think its just me who gets two bangers sitting 2 rows back every week. but obviously not.

24 Aug 2018 15:39:21
probably the same persons who caused trouble in a mcdonalds last night! c'mon lads when you don the red white and blue be proud of the colours notdisgrace them!

Davy Klaassen

24 Aug 2018 11:30:09
{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new player profile about, Davy Klaassen

24 Aug 2018 09:21:42
In the end a decent result last night. Yes, we could have been more convincing with the scoreline however a clean sheet puts us in the driving seat. Thought the ref allowed them to slow the game down from the off, however I also think our lack of intensity last night was something that played into there hands. Thought for large spells of the game we never moved the ball quick enough and were just a bit slack on the ball all round.

Player ratings:

McGregor 7 - Didn't have a lot to do but when called upon made a great save before half time.
Tav 5 - Not one of his best games in a rangers shirt. Was quite going forward and was caught a bit high up the park a few times. Wasn't a disaster but just not his best game.
Goldson 8 - Rock solid at the back.
Katic 8 - Was also very solid.
Flanagan 4 - Thought he got beaten far to easily at times and was sloppy in possession. Also kills us not being able to get down that left hand side since he's so right footed (not really his fault)
Ejaria 8 - best game in a rangers shirt. Was strong and tidy on the ball. Almost created a few chances where I thought he should have been a bit more selfish around the pen box. We need to add midfield goals.
Arfeild 7 - Decent game from mr consistant. Made some good forward runs and love he plays of morelos, they two link up well. Thought he overplayed at times though and again could have taken a couple of shots on at times.
Jack 8 - Ryan Jack was superb once again at keeping the ball movin aswell as winning it back, in particular covering the full backs. Think jack is a player who can see the bigger picture in a game.
Candeias 3 - Thought he was poor tonight and was lucky to stay on the field for so long. His work rate can't be questioned as he does a lot of tracking back however he was very sloppy on the ball. Felt like after a poor opening 30 mins he just hid in the game until he was subbed.
Kent 8 - Thought he had a very good game. Work rate was top notch and he showed that bit of quality when gliding past players. Another who needs to add goals to his game and be a bit greedier. Only thing he lacked last night was a better final ball at times.
Morelos 7 - So strong and his link up play was great. However never really got into many chances last night or involved as much as other games. Still though he provided their defence a torrid time. Maybe could have done better with header in first half which was straight at keeper but was a hard one to take.

Lafferty 4 - Didn't really do much when he came on and I think we actually lost our balance a bit with him on the right hand side.

Middleton 6 - Was positive when he came on. Fullbacks would be dreading having to deal with 60-70 mins of kent and then have Middleton come on and get at them as he is soo direct. Exciting to watch and think gerrard is managing him well.

Overall I think its glaring that we need to bring in 2 players still in my opinion. Especially with Murphy out for the season. Think we need CB cover and an attacking midfielder/ winger as we are light in this area. God forbid anything happens to Arfield as we couldn't replace him right now.

Excited for motherwell on Sunday before a massive week!

24 Aug 2018 12:07:52
I agree with most but think you're being too harsh on Candeias, he didn't have the best of games but I'd have went closer to a 5 than just a 3.

24 Aug 2018 12:29:38
Fair enough. Like I said I can't question is work rate however I never thought he was good at all last night. But when your not having your best of nights working hard is vital so fair play to him.

24 Aug 2018 14:56:29
Agree with the 3 for Candeias he was shocking going forward last night and offered nothing.

24 Aug 2018 09:18:57
Good morning Bears. SG's run continues with another good performance last night. With three games in the next 10 days or so against Motherwell, UFA and Celtic, what do you think would be the best strategy in terms of who plays in which matches? Obviously the idea of a first team squad is to be able to rotate. Should Couilbally be rested against Motherwell and brought back in Russia? With Barisic available for this Sunday should we rest Tavernier with the Russia game in mind? Should Lafferty play at Fir Park to allow us to rest Morelos? I'd be interested to hear your views. I'd like us to win all three of these games but financially, the Europa League qualifier is worth at least £10m.

24 Aug 2018 09:49:05
Yes Flanagan on right and braising
On left let young Middleton start
And get laff on from star
These Russians think they have the
Measure of rangers.

24 Aug 2018 09:51:44
You're right about resting players, and in some positions we have the strength to do that this weekend. You could see tiredness throughout the team after an hour last night. Away in Russia then at parkhead is going to be a huge strain on the squad. This period will be a real test of Gerrard as a manager. I'm looking forward to seeing how he handles it.

24 Aug 2018 09:59:52
Yes,
Team for me would be:
Fod
Flan Goldson Katic Barasic
Jack Ejaria Arfield
Kent Lafferty Middleton

Coulibally to come back in for Russia. We need another wide man and cb quite urgently I think.

24 Aug 2018 10:56:17
Why not this team v Motherwell?

Foderingham; Flanagan, Goldson, Katic, Barisic;
McCrorie; Candeias, Arfield, Ejaria, Middleton; Lafferty

Couilbaly, Jack, Tavernier, Morelos all subs with Couilbaly and Jack coming on later in the game, especially Couilbaly for some match time.

I still think it is a strong starting XI. We can't expect the same 11 players to start every game when the games are coming thick and fast.

24 Aug 2018 11:23:44
Could definitely see that Doiger. Think I read coulibally will be a doubt for Saturday though and wouldn't want to rush him back. Rossiter could make bench on sunday though I think. For me i'd love to see middleton play however can't help but think gerrard will continue to use him as an impact player right now.

24 Aug 2018 11:43:24
That would be good Dunfermlineloyal if Rossiter comes back. Imagine the cover in midfield when Dorrans and Rossiter are both back fit!

24 Aug 2018 12:48:46
100% would be good cover however I feel like we still need another attacking player in midfield. Whether that is a winger who can play inside or what I don't know. If arield was ever out I worry our midfield would be a bit one dimensional.

24 Aug 2018 13:31:44
For Sunday I’d go:

McGregor
Tavernier, Goldson, Katic, Barasic
Jack, Ejaria
Lafferty, Arfield, Middleton
Morelos

Don’t want to lose any Momentom at this stage and with one week till the international break we need to push on, plenty time for resting players when all our injuries are back!

If we can get the result done early we can take off 2/ 3 early.

24 Aug 2018 14:25:12
I can see Halliday featuring against Murderwell as part of the gaffer's rotation policy and Barisic will certainly play. I don't think he will play Middleton from the start in any of our next three games but the boy will feature.

24 Aug 2018 14:58:03
Dunfermlineloyal

Where did you see that Rossiter might make bench on Sunday?

24 Aug 2018 09:01:58
My point is I wouldn’t wish harm on anyone (even the green gang) and I would now consider not travelling with my son to away games if the local police or UEFA cannot guarantee our safety!

24 Aug 2018 09:00:17
Watching SSN and I see Burnley fans involved in scuffles over in Greece. Personally I feel there has been a lot more of this happening recently across at home and Europe.

Now I’m a great believer in following your team an you should be able to follow safe in the knowledge you will return home in one peice.

24 Aug 2018 08:15:45
If Liverpool don't want the shakes money then we should phone the guy right now and get him in.

24 Aug 2018 09:09:51
who are you talking about?

24 Aug 2018 07:36:07
Where is all the Ejaria bashers today? 😂 The last 3/ 4 games the boy has been improving by the game. Understanding performance v potential is key eh? Long may he improve 🔴⚪️💙.

24 Aug 2018 08:29:55
Said a similar thing a few weeks ago mate, he's got bags of potential and talent. Always shown glimmers of it for me but last night I feel that Ryan Jack brought the best out of him and he looked absolutely solid.

Good guys around the young bucks will only end in them improving!

24 Aug 2018 08:42:45
With you 100%.

24 Aug 2018 11:14:23
How much would Ejaria cost to buy if Liverpool were to sell?

24 Aug 2018 01:40:19
Who thought Middleton was superb tonight.

I’d play him against The Mhanky Mob, he’ll terrorise Lustig or Gamboa

What’s your thoughts?

Ps. Best game Ojaria has played in a Rangers jersey.

24 Aug 2018 06:16:18
Ojaria had his best game for us . Middleton was good but we need to remember he was in against a guy who had been playing for about 80 mins. I'm not sure I'd start Glenn next week but would have no problems with it.

24 Aug 2018 08:22:48
Ejaria has played better every game he has played. Didn't understand all the grief coming his way. Looks strong, wins tackles, can pass, always wants the ball and tracks runners. Dwells on the ball now and again but it's getting less every game. Looks very coachable.

24 Aug 2018 01:11:04
Couldn't make match tonight but by all accounts Ejaria best game in blue. This pleases me as continued good play by him gives options. More pleased dark side had stinker. Not worried single goal to take there as feel it will be different game, ref, blah blah.

24 Aug 2018 07:19:39
I’m a bit gutted that Celtic continue to struggle as they might just be forced into spending a few bob, hopefully they sell no one and big Boyata signs a pre contract elsewhere in January 😃.

23 Aug 2018 22:39:35
Didn't see the game tonight due to work commitments but a 1-0 win at home in Europe against Russian opponents is a very good result. Go to Russia next week and keep them out and we may well score. From other comments I've seen Ejaria was very good tonight? Jury's out on Lafferty as to when he should play.

24 Aug 2018 07:24:57
Lafferty is our utility man, he can play anywhere required across the front three or Attacking Mid, he will play a lot, possibly as a 2nd striker in some matches, hopefully some more business to be done before Friday!
