Lennon left because Scottish football is Done
I disagree I think it's doing fine. Other teams are getting better like St Johnstone, Dundee Utd & Aberdeen. Hearts had a turbulent season but they can be proud of what there young team has done on the pitch. They will give us problems next season so will Hamilton. Kane Hemmings will probably bite us on the bum aswell. All round The standard may not be getting that much better but it's certainly not getting worse. It was just as bad when we were in the SPL. We've hardly played good football on the eye since Prso was there maybe even Cannigia lol. I think Lennon leaving could be very much a mutual thing concerning him and the Celtic board. Billionaire shareholders & there's still a lack of investment on the playing squad on the other hand Lennons failure to Land a treble in Rangers absence. They will spend in the summer though with a new manager. I hope they get Di Canio that would be havoc bring them down to the same par as everyone else by next season, then every team will be in with a chance at the league. As sure as there's s**** on a dogs arse Lennon will want the scout from Celtic think it's John Park, Kris Commons, Samaras & Scott Brown wherever he now goes.
Re 1) Sorry it most certainly is getting worse, teams the like of Aberdeen etc. are not improving, simply that some teams have not gone back as much as others. But without doubt the quality compared with a few years back is dross.
While I can't deny I'm happy to see Lennon leaving there's no denying he brought a lot of passion back to the East end and that result against Barcelona was a major feat for a Scottish club. I think it's clear he saw how things were heading - players leaving as they were at the end of their contract and he was not going to get the budget to replace them with the quality of players needed to get to the last 16 in Europe. I think he's just thought 'What's the point' as they are going to walk that league for the next few years till we get back and start competing at the top level. The big question for us is will that happen at first try in the Championship. I must admit I have my doubts. Tough season ahead and we're still in turmoil. Argghhhhhhh!
No disrespect to Hemmings but McCoist gave him his chance and he didn't take it.
The way I see it is that a lot of fans aren't renewing because they're unhappy with the style of football. Management is a different animal to playing and perhaps the current one rewards loyalty too much and avoids risk. A lot of managers across businesses make this mistake and maybe a clean slate is needed. I thought McCoist would have risked more on developing the youth and maybe listened to the fans a bit more. We're not all Ally bashers out to give him a hard time for the sake of it after all. He has his favourites and they're entrenched and we know it and it doesn't auger well for Durie's lads to get a look in.
I heard from a mate from the shire who knows Jackie McNamara's cousin Tracey that she told him yesterday that Lawell has asked for permission from Dundee United to speak to him. Apprently he's willing to do it for less money than any other candidates want as he really wants the job as its been his dream since leaving the club.
@4 well said, we won't ever all agree on managers, players, ect and when making a point as to why you think it's time for a manager change, that's the way to do it, not with name calling and hostility to someone who is after all one of our own.
A couple of points
a: Scottish football is NOT ok - its levelling down a bit which makes it look competitive- but Celtic still won the League without breaking wind.
b: Lennon 'stepped down' because winning the league in Scotland umpteen years in a row is no great achievement when there is next to no competition - so he has to move somewhere when he gets the chance
c: MacNamara lined up for the Celtic - seems cosy - D Utd manage to clear of their debt (how?) & now their manager is willing to take the job for less money than the rest & no doubt will take the best youngsters from Utd. to Parkhead at 'reasonable' prices I bet.
d: despite being a poor league I still wouldn't fancy our chances over a season with the team we currently have
e: I think we are stuck with the team we currently have & now losing youngsters like Telfer - doesn't look good
So the Aberdeen Dundee Utd & St Johnstone teams are worse than they were 3 or 4 years ago? I find that hard to believe watch a few games & see. I'm not saying it's great but We would struggle with the old team with Davis & Naisy etc against those 3 sides right now there all playing decent football. Tommy Wrights got his tactics spot on in a few big games recently, and getting the best out of a mediocre team they deserved the cup they've not conceded against Dundee Utd in 3 games & how did we fair? I think because were so bad everyone just blames Scottish Football. It is what it is & that's the way it will stay if Rangers don't get there act together. Obviously Celtic won the league at a canter they do have the best team in the country by far. Lennon either left because he didn't win a treble & Celtic wanted a change or he was tired of the hassle he gets living in Scotland because now He won't manage in the Champions league again.
Larky Bear
We will find out if teams are better when we see them in europe I think ally is coppying his mentor in playing his favourite players just like walter smith did I also think not resting players cost us 10 in a row I expect all scotish clubs will be out of europe early because league is getting worst year on year
The question of whether the standard of football is better or worse than it was five years ago isn't really answered by comparing Dundee Utd of today with Dundee Utd of five years ago is it? A more relevant measure would be comparing the Dundee Utd of today with whoever finished in their corresponding league position five years ago. I certainly wouldn't say it's getting better overall. I think most would agree.
Lennon left because there's no much to say about what he has or hasn't "achieved". There's no point in him staying another year. How is a chairman at an English club to assess NL's qualities as a football manager?! He signed some decent players (with the help of his scouting team) and some donkeys, he won an awful league a few times, he performed poorly in cup competitions and he got to the last 16 of the CL (where Celtic got the biggest thumping of the round) largely thanks to a lucky win in Moscow. I will genuinely be quite interested to see how he fairs elsewhere, if given the chance.
@9 - me I nearly agree with your post there, think we found out last year when hibs well n Celtic all got pumped out early doors
Ally too loyal to too many for too long, law, foster, black, daly to name a few, that did not help is lack of ability as a manager, only made it worse,
Walter cost us 10 by being too loyal too to many as well
Jg
Jg you nearly agreed lol probably because I posted it you don't like agreeing with me eh lol
