Dom Ball off on tour with Spurs, looks unlikely he is available for loan unless he has a bad tour.

22 Jul 2016 22:35:17
Right guys, before I say what I'm going to say I know we were only playing east stirling tonight, but imo I don't care who we sign for the same position as barrie mckay there's nobody better than him in the wide berth of our team, baz is better than josh windass, harry forrester, moh, etc, his exquisite passing range and control of a football is imo superior to any of these players that play in the same position as mckay, thoughts on this please, wee baz unfortunately for us will play in the english premiership within the next 3 years, that's how highly I rate him and the talent this wee guy has!

22 Jul 2016 23:05:23
Agree W15, he is a special player. Even when he broke thru 3 or 4 years ago I thought he was special and the best of that McLeod/ Crawford/ Aird batch and never understood why he was always put out on loan. Think we need to give great credit to MW and DW for helping him develop confidence and providing platform to shine. Can't help thinking about SC goal against Celtic when he sidestepped Broon before unleashing shot into roof of net. Actually some of his goals last season were as good as those scored by Gazza and Laudy. Looking forward to see him consistently perform at a high level and establish himself as a senior member of the team this season.

22 Jul 2016 23:05:46
Completely agree and it is not about tonight it is about 2/ 3 of games last year - I think BM is MWs pet project - give him a season working (on and off field) with Nico and by this time we will have a international class 10 - yeah he could go and at decent money I would wish him well - this is where we are today - same to come from Thomson, Burt, Hardie, etc.
Some amy say this is not where Rangers should be but this is where we are and BTW what is not to like - OK MAnchester. Uefa was something else but this is the best Rangers have been to watch in 15 years.

22 Jul 2016 23:21:19
Spot on W15.

22 Jul 2016 23:38:30
Barry is the best passer of the ball in Scottish football. His energy levels are terrific and he could easily develop into a true star on the European stage. We should enjoy him whilst we can.

22 Jul 2016 23:44:08
Totally agree W15, even in the 3rd division when we were in it you could tell he had a good touch and that to me was what stood out the most, but recently you can see he has the lot. His crossing, trickery, striking and even defending when wallace overlaps is second to none.

You just have to look at tonite. Brought down for the pen, his cross for Windass and his pass for wallace to get in behind for Dodoo for the 3rd. Involved in all 3 and it was less than 2 weeks ago when people we're commenting on here how incomplete he is.

23 Jul 2016 00:20:30
I really like the boy seems to have it all, pace, passing, through balls and his long passing is brilliant can beat a man and has a great shot on him. the only thing I'd say is when he goes past a man he tends to slow down after which let's the player get back or he passes it back I'd like him to go past his man and drive into the box a wee bit more but I suppose i'm being greedy.

23 Jul 2016 00:48:21
To me, Macloed was head and shoulders above all the youngsters, was gutted when we lost him. Really hope he gets past his injuries and proves how good he is! How many 19/ 20 year olds do you see score overhead kicks like they two macloed scored?! He was out best player and could have became a legend if he wasnt forced out.

23 Jul 2016 01:04:31
I remember reading that Warbs isn't a fan of having players on long contracts (4-5yrs) although regarding Rossiter and Dodoo you can understand why due to age and his confidence in their ability and talent. Think Warbs said something along the lines of keeping players on their toes when it comes to contracts but regarding McKay imo I think we should sign him up long term, in saying that does anyone know McKays contract situation?

23 Jul 2016 03:40:26
There's no doubt Mckay is talented and 1 for the future without a doubt, but let's be honest and realistic. He has a long way to go. At the moment he is performing At a consistent level. If he keeps that up another season in the premier against better sides and plays for his country then I will then agree with above comments. He is a talent for sure but to even mention greats that played in bigger games and bigger stages before and after gers makes comments bout a young Scottish talent premature to say the least. Consistently being good is the key 👍.

23 Jul 2016 09:48:28
I would say he's 1 of the most promising young players in british football never mind scotland, his control of a ball and touch is 1st class, 2 footed i think we will be lucky to keep hold of him next season as he is destined for EPL.

23 Jul 2016 10:10:03
Strachan will still give him no game time.

23 Jul 2016 11:49:47
Swamy is the voice of reason here. Barry is doing very well but to start comparing him to Gers greats and say he will be a force in European football is ridiculous.
He needs to keep working on his game because he doesn't beat the full back on the outside enough and his crossing is poor.
Let's calm down and see how he performs this season.

22 Jul 2016 20:32:12
Why do we bother with corners? Just kick it out for a goal kick.

22 Jul 2016 21:46:55
We won 3-0 and you moan about corners. We have not got a prso or a jelavic in the box so why into the box? Not like kiernan or wilson can head is it.

22 Jul 2016 22:04:55
Really? . some people.

22 Jul 2016 23:47:16
If you look at the way we play Gordy its all about keep ball so what's the point in mindlesslley punting it into the box to lose it so teams can counter attack against us.

23 Jul 2016 08:24:45
Bluendglasgow

If we are 1-0 down to Celtic with a minute to play and get a corner would you be happy with us not putting it straight in the box?

23 Jul 2016 11:26:53
Okay Biffo i'll answer your question with another question. If we were 2-0 up against east stirling, motherwell, annan (which we have been) would you punt it into the box to then cheaply give it away so teams can hit us on the counter because if you notice that's all teams want to do against us because we play so high up the pitch.

Now as for your statement on celtic being 1-0 up in the 90th minute against us (which has never happened under Warburtons style of play) but my 3 scenarios have what would you do? Swing it into the box and let them counter and put pressure on a dodgy defence? Or keep the ball and string some passes together. Let the opposition come out from their 6 yard box so we can put someone through on goal 1v1?

23 Jul 2016 12:09:22
Yes - I agree with first post, corners are a waste of time .

Yes of course we won 3-0 maybe it should have been 13?

It was against East Stirlingshire etc

Clearly it must be the concern of "losing" procession after scoring?

A corner is one removed from a penalty or free kick around the box and getting the ball into "danger" zone to score.

We do not seem to want to score "dirty" goals rather "pass" the ball into the net? Why do we need a "dirty" goal scorer?

Interesting to see goal statistics from corners particularly from lower weaker sides.

Did we not lose lots of goals from when sides swung in corners against us last season?

Interesting to see whether Barton follows "orders" or take decisions on the pitch?

22 Jul 2016 18:57:59
Would a liked t see young Jordan Thompson get a run out tnyte but on bench again. anyviews troops.?

22 Jul 2016 19:34:59
Would like to see more of this boy.

22 Jul 2016 21:48:56
Nice to see young Thompson on looks neat and tidy and refreshing to see him take responsibility and shoot from outside the box. think he could have a bit to offer rather than punt him out on loan. A might get shot down here but Harry foresster the jury's still out on him from my point of view scored a decent goal against Dundee which seems to have turnt him in to sum world beater just my opinion guys and gals.

22 Jul 2016 22:22:33
Thought he impressed tonight in the minutes he got in the pitch. Would like to see more of the boy.

23 Jul 2016 09:05:14
He said before the game that we are sending him out on loan for the season, possibly down south.

22 Jul 2016 18:44:51
Anyone else feel club may be missing a trick with the strip catastrophe I feel would have been wise to get big push on supporters groups strips and got big push on fans buying a pretty decent top (I know we couldn't use certain things through copyright) because at least we could have got some money put back into club without fans just sitting waiting to see what happens. Is there nothing else that can be done like this?

22 Jul 2016 19:00:54
Still think it would be amazing for our squad to throw the tops into the stands home and away ALL season, the media coverage would be top, also for the kids in the disabled section, sort them out first! Reckon it would cost the club anything between 40k-50k but would be worth letting all know far and wide what that fat man is doing to the club and its supporters who have no chance of buying a top! What's your thoughts Bears?

22 Jul 2016 20:20:01
Spot on Andy.

22 Jul 2016 18:40:41
If there is one player I'm always excited to see from last seasons squad, it's Harry Forrester.

Always confident on the ball, barely puts a foot wrong, works himself into the ground, speaks well and has a great passion for the club.

Considering what the feeling was when he first joined. Fans will always assess signings made by their manager, but our manager hasn't put a foot wrong so far. Waiting for Michael O Halloran to be of the same mould this season, can't wait to see how he performs on a consistent basis, if he gets the chance.

22 Jul 2016 21:40:57
Agree 100% about Forrester, definitely plays for his place and jersey.

I like O'halloran, he had a good game tonight.

I think it's frustrating for him at points because he has the legs for it, he has the skill but he seems to always get cut out and left with no choice but to find a pass.

I like how Windass plays, he is very driven and I felt we lost that in the second half.

Good to see Dodoo start his Rangers career off with a goal.

22 Jul 2016 18:03:33
Team news for tonight?

22 Jul 2016 18:28:44
11 v 11.

22 Jul 2016 17:40:44
Stewart robertson nominated onto SFA board . good news the club has representation on SFA.

22 Jul 2016 17:40:42
Mariappa still without a club. Still believe good chance he will end up at Ibrox.

22 Jul 2016 19:40:50
Think he might end up in glasgow, but not at ibrox. He will double his wages over on the dark side.

22 Jul 2016 20:16:53
Are they showing an interest in Mariappa?

22 Jul 2016 16:52:46
McKay to the left of me, Waghorn to the right
Here I am stuck in the middle Dodoo!

22 Jul 2016 17:03:55
The other side have got clowns to the left of me jokers to the right, stuck in the middle is broon, lol.

22 Jul 2016 17:27:44
love it------thx guys.

23 Jul 2016 01:11:16
Was having a chat with a mate of mine about the team etc. Prob isn't a huge issue but we don't have a left winger with a left peg do we?

22 Jul 2016 15:03:18
Thoughts on a CF Gary Madine of Bolton, guy is 1.91 height,25 years old and penalty box striker, different option in case plan A not working. Been a bit of a hothead at times, transfer value at about 250k. Weekly wage was less than £8000, if he did good could sell on in a couple of years.

22 Jul 2016 15:22:51
If he had been 1.92cm I'd have snapped him up Scotsman but no way now.

22 Jul 2016 15:31:16
At 1.92cm Djab he would be one of the borrowers lol 😁.

22 Jul 2016 15:47:31
There's always someone who's got to nitpick.
I'll be watching Djab.

22 Jul 2016 17:16:28
Rafbob that made me laugh! 😂 Scotman get yir money on us to win 4-0 tonight .

22 Jul 2016 18:28:17
another players who's been to prison.

22 Jul 2016 12:20:09
When is Matt Crooks going to be match fit and get his first game? Looking forward to seeing him.

22 Jul 2016 13:00:01
Mark Warburton says that Crooks is 3-4 weeks away from fitness.

22 Jul 2016 17:31:54
For crooks being over 6ft he's very good with the ball at his feet, I can't wait to see him in a gers top. he's going to have a bright future in the game.

22 Jul 2016 11:05:00
Great to see young Hardie likely to get some game time tonight/ Monday. Looking forward to seeing him in action, scored some great goals for Raith last season.

22 Jul 2016 10:54:02
England defeated in U19 Euro semi expect Rossiter to make Ibrox debut on Monday.

22 Jul 2016 11:15:35
Surely the boy will need a 2 wk break. I wouldn't expect to see him till start of season. Maybe 2nd or 3rd game in.

22 Jul 2016 12:55:50
Don't want him experiencing any burnout . Give him a break then introduce him.

22 Jul 2016 14:28:23
Supposed to make his debut against Burnley.

22 Jul 2016 15:25:15
By the sounds of it listening to Warburton he won't get much rest and may be in the squad soon due to being injured for a while at Liverpool it wasn't as if he played a full season then euros but I would still be surprised if he featured before the Burnley game.

22 Jul 2016 10:03:39
Agreed mols to me was up there with Laudrup before his injury.

22 Jul 2016 17:27:37
Just watched Rangers V Strum Graz at Ibrox Sep 2000 Michael Mols was fantastic than night. I had a mate from wales up for that game and he could not believe the atmosphere. That night Mols was different class.
Guys get onto youtube and watch this old match, big Archie MacPhersons commentary is quite majestic Ranges 5 Strum Graz 0. Wooof

The commentary was vintage Archie almost as good as Collins, Boyd, McStay Not good enough
Look at the team Class Class and more Class in all areas.
Mols was fantastic.

22 Jul 2016 06:41:19
A wee debate here fellow bears and I'd like to involve the ed aswell in this discussion, talking amongst workmates yesterday we got onto the subject of how good paul gascoigne was, I defined gazza as the best attacking midfielder I'd clapped eyes on in a rangers jersey and the best english midfielder in his generation who imo literally could have played for ANY team in the world! My question here is how highly do all you fellow bluenoses out there regard gazza as a rangers midfielder and where did he stand against other world class midfielders for you? I would also like the ed's opinion on this, with the transfer fees now I would class gazza in the 100million quid bracket going on todays going over inflated rate!

{Ed001's Note - not a chance, due to his lifestyle. Quality wise he was world class, but he lived the life of a party animal, he was simply not professional enough. I can remember being at a preseason training session for Middlesbrough, and we were sat down by the training pitches watching the players come out for an early session. They were quite a way from us, but this one guy came out and we all looked at each other and were asking who the hell is the fat guy? We actually questioned whether Jimmy Five Bellies had come along to train with the team or something. It was only when they got closer we realised it was Gazza, who was a good few stone overweight. It really did look like a darts player, rather than a football player. If he could have lived right, he could have been the best in the world. Shame, he is a genuinely nice lad.}

22 Jul 2016 07:57:51
I agree with both WB15th and ED001, Gazza is my favourite ever Rangers player, in my eyes he was the most gifted player ever to wear a Rangers shirt and that's saying something considering the likes of Laudrup, Cooper, Baxter etc. But he also should have achieved more than he did, with his gifts he should have spent the best years of his career with Barcelona or Real Madrid rather than, with all due respect, playing against Kilmarnock and St. Mirren in Scotland. Never mind, Barcas loss was our gain.

22 Jul 2016 07:58:34
better than most we've had but not on the level of laudrap, if guys like Barkley (good player right enough) are quoted at 40 million plus then gazza would be about 50 million imo. but then again we are all going to be biased lol.

22 Jul 2016 08:20:39
Baring in mind I'm younger I always felt that Mols had the potential to do it all before his injury. He's the best player I can ever remember seeing he did stuff with the ball I still haven't seen anyone else do.

22 Jul 2016 09:11:35
Mols was unreal when at Rangers before that big tube of a german keeper Kann? wrecked him with a terrible tackle from about 30 yards from goal if I remember right. He was outstanding that night against B Munich in the champions league and they could not handle him, so the keeper then thought he would mince him to try and slow him up "dirty b******. If it had not been for injury I really think Mols would have became one of the top players in the world, unbeliveable skill with the ball at is feet, could beat a player, could run with the ball and could finish. "he gets the ball and he scores the goals, Michael Michael Mols"

22 Jul 2016 10:01:43
Gazza was a good player but nowhere near Cooper, baxter, wee bud, Willie Henderson. Jardine, souness and as a consistent performer I would have had Trevor Steven over him any day. No doubting the guys genius but he never produced in Europe for us and by his time Scottish football was well into its decline plus looking back with hindsight we wasted money when we should have been developing youngsters gazza was hardly the shining example to youngsters like Kenny Miller, davie weir or sandy Jardine. With the team that we had the money we spent then and the zero impact in Europe when he was there I would say we never even needed the guy. How much money was he payed weekly to love our club a dam sight more than any of the true greats, and to see him drinking himself to death is sad but when given help he falls of the wagon the guy craves attention which I just wouldn't give him I grew up with heavy drinker my fondest moment was the day I knocked him out so I have no sympathy for him my sympathy lies with his family.

22 Jul 2016 10:10:31
Gazzas hat trick at Ibrox against Aberdeen for 8 in a row is still to this day the best performance I've ever seen in a Rangers shirt! He won that game on his own! His Cruyff turn for the fist was sublime, His run from deep in his own half skinning 3 or 4 players was even better and the coolness for the penalty jus summed him up!
In today's money in Gazza was fit and lived a professional lifestyle would be up there in the 100 millions.

Legend.

22 Jul 2016 10:18:55
One word that describes Gazza perfectly, on the pitch at least, is genius. The best player I have ever seen at a Scottish club, Gazza could undoubtedly have played with any club in the world and would have stood out. I met him once and found him to be warm and very funny with a great sense of humour and also generous to a fault. So sad to see him now, caught in the grip of alcohol like so many others before and after. I fear for him, I really do.

22 Jul 2016 10:42:21
Good discussion W15. I thought Gazza was fantastic player but have to agree with Ed that like Best and Baxter he falls into that category of flawed genius that did not make the best of their talents. Having said that we were fortunate having him at Ibrox whilst he was still just about at his best and was unstoppable. Remember 8 in a row season against Aberdeen bursting from own have and holding off challenges to score. My other favourite Gazza moment was the dentist chair goal against Scotland at wembley in 1996. If a young Gazza was playing now he would be valued at £100m plus. Great memories.

22 Jul 2016 11:18:57
Gazza is the best player in my lifetime. My da used to take me to see Cooper, but I was too young to remember it properly. He actually called his dog Cooper so that's how much he loved him. My Granda actually took me to a Scottish Cup final when Motherwell beat Dundee Utd just because Copper was playing.
Laudrup will always have a special place as well, and to be honest he was more consistently brilliant but Gazza just had that something else that you just can't quite explain. Genius I suppose.
Never forget when we signed him and he had the short blonde hair and half of Scotland had the same haircut. I was lucky, mine was that colour anyway when a was that age, just had to get it cut and I was ready to go. Brilliant days to be a Rangers fan, as are they all!

22 Jul 2016 12:28:29
In my opinion Gazza was a great but not just at the same level as the like of Laudrup and Cooper. He did win us games at times but so did a lot of players. I disagree regarding Mols, I think he was a good player before his injury but would never have made it as a 'World Class Player'. As Rangers fans we have been really lucky to see some fantastic players grace our football pitch. To think Goram, Gough, Butcher, Numan, Gio, Cooper, Gazza, Laudrup, Klos, Mols, Ricksen, Bazza and many more have graced our stadium playing in the red white and blue is incredible. Sky TV has ruined the chances of ever seeing players of there qualities ever playing in Scotland unless we can unearth a gem. let's hope Rossiter or Dodoo live up to there expectations.

22 Jul 2016 13:01:51
Mols would have hit they heights imo.

22 Jul 2016 13:45:44
I think all the comments kind of summarise Gazza.
Had he sorted his head out he would have been a £100m player.
He would have been head and shoulders above Rooney (for comparison) and he was mooted as £50m upwards a few years back.
As for Mols I thought he was outstanding when he arrived and could turn like no-one in the game.
However to say he would have become world class is a stretch as he was actually 28-29 when he signed so was at his peak.
It did puzzle me though how a player with such talent was still at Utrecht for so long?

22 Jul 2016 15:50:40
Yeah I'm with you recbob, Never seen the likes of gazza play at the time although I've seen plenty clips I feel can't really comment but Michael Mols for me was messi before messi. I remember watching him in a fives tournament (cant remember the name) where they won comfortably and no one could live with him even now. A true entertainer could do everything will the ball Where he differs from gazza is he didn't have the mental health issues that he did and was a fairly humble and level headed guy. I feel mols will always be my favourite Ranger I can't talk about the likes of cooper, Laudrup ect although I have paintings of them all on my walls.

22 Jul 2016 17:58:49
People mature and develop at different rates for me mols was denied the opportunity to become one of the greatest ever Rangers his consistency before injury and his ability for me points in that direction although he was unfortunate, in a way you are right because on bad injury finished him but for me you can't say his age was a factor everyone agrees the injury ruined him and with a team like we had back then he could have accomplished anything.

22 Jul 2016 18:00:20
Although may I add the mental health issues where part of what made gazza so special on the field if he was a normal person he probably would have been a normal footballer.

23 Jul 2016 09:03:18
I agree that gazzas performance in that Aberdeen 8 in a row game is the best I've ever seen in a rangers jersey! Sublime! He also had an outstanding second half in the cup final against hearts (I'm sure we were getting beat) he came out and ripped them to shreds 2nd half.

Laudrup was consistently unbelievable too, will always remember his run from inside his own half to set up Duncan Ferguson against dundee United and think holy f**k who's this guy.

Good times folks!
