is it time yet again for a league revamp? maybe going down to 3 divisions of 18, 12 and 12 with the two lower leagues playing three times, the third matches to bed rawn like the cup draw to decide which team is at home and a new rule that eliminates plastic pitches from the premier division? just thinking out loud, any better thoughts out there?

Probably but any TV deal in the future is far more lucrative if we have 4 old firm games rather than 2.
Personally I believe teams playing each other 4 or more times a season (cups) is far too much. Add to that clubs having the old firms traveling support visiting twice rather than 4 times and it would unlikely to receive support from most SPL clubs.

Having said that I would like to see a 16/ 18 team top league and I believe we have enough clubs to support it but only just.

Totally agree with that Only a game. Like you say, unfortunately, it's highly unlikely. In the long run I think it could be good for the Scottish game with the bigger teams being able to blood more youngsters in certain games and weaker teams being forced to expose more youngsters against the top pros due to finances.

You might get the odd giant killing and imo would also make certain derbies mean more, especially in the cup. Agree about grass pitches only in top league ritchie2. Some clever b£stard needs to come up with a cheap way of putting roofs on to these stadiums!

hope hamilton go down this season shambles of a team with a 800 home support and a pitch that should be banned from profesional football not doing the scottish game any favours

22 Feb 2018 08:16:02
Only a game

Spot on the tv deal has to include 4 old firm games and if you take 2 away then it’s likely they will offer even less money.

22 Feb 2018 12:53:06
Read somewhere that viewing figures for old firm game has dropped.

22 Feb 2018 14:02:45
Jaws

Yeah they have and quite considerably however it’s still the best viewed Scottish game and only having 2 would mean less money.

The league won't work if we exspand it and only play each other twice like what has been mentioned with the four old firm games and the sky deal And then there is the fact that the current system helps the smaller sides in the league financially as four or even 3games against the oldfirm also the likes of Aberdeen hearts hibs exc so if you have more teams in the league and reduce it to playing each other twice then instead of another trip to ibrox or Celtic at home again the likes of Hamilton will play Falkirk ross county instead that week so that will have a nagative impact financially all round.

22 Feb 2018 14:48:31
Current system is rubbish although it has given us some amazing days, i think we won 4 helicopter Sundays, home to Dunfermline, Away at Dundee Utd, Hibs and Kilmarnock. i think they either need to go 10 teams where everyone plays each other 4 times or expand to 16/ 18 and everyone play each other twice. the latter would make the whole league more competitive imo.

22 Feb 2018 15:20:08
A daft draw for the 3rd game to play at home is the daftest thing I have read since Celtic beating Aberdeen will be a doing us a favour. that's up there with the split. Why not just promote the 6 best junior sides giving us 48 teams. 3 leagues of 16, play each other twice at 32 games.

Thus promoting less fixture congestion, incorporating a longer winter break as let's be honest there are more fixture postponements after the winter break due to weather. The only problem would be sky, they like the 4 old firm games. It does get boring playing the same teams 4 times per season. But yes ban these plastic pitches, absolute joke. No one is investing in our game just now so revamping it surely can't make it any worse.

In the Premier League 1st, Champions League, 2nd European Cup 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, play off for the Euro cup slot. Maybe give a Euro slot back to the League cup. Not sure how many Euro places we get but something along those lines. Spice it up a bit. You can't play 3 times or 4 times a season its an eye sore. But then again the vultures that put us down will be up in arms cause they won't have their two cash making home games against us.

21 Feb 2018 14:51:31
So Rossiter out for a month, Dorrans possibly longer and worst of all Mccrorie is a minimum of 3-4 more weeks as he's not healing as expected.

21 Feb 2018 16:34:15
So I see Mcrorie another three four weeks at least. I did say 3 month minimum when they were in Florida and was slaughtered on here.
Three four weeks is before he trains, still can’t kick a ball so won’t play till after split if match fit

21 Feb 2018 19:16:08
Any news on Jack’s recovery and fitness status?

21 Feb 2018 19:44:06
Think he's out pretty much the rest of the season mate, I might be wrong there though.

21 Feb 2018 20:00:33
Supposedly jack will be lucky if he's back for pre season dorrans end of march april

21 Feb 2018 21:57:31
Looks like we will have to manage with what we’ve got until the end of the season although it would be good to get some guys back for the post split fixtures in case of loss of form or fitness from anyone!

Maybe a chance for Andy Dallas or Steven Kelly if any more get injured?

21 Feb 2018 22:25:08
Plenty in midfield, Kelly might see bench if more injuries.
Heard mccrorie to get operation in London on Monday

21 Feb 2018 23:21:14
When is Rossiter's contract up?

21 Feb 2018 23:29:35
McCrorie injury isn’t progressing as expected. In 3 to 4 weeks he will be re assessed and possibility he may need an op which could put him out for most of this season.

22 Feb 2018 08:47:33
Calvin 55 Rossiter signed up for 4 years in May 2016.If you're suggesting paying him off sounds like a lot of money. Would have to get fit before we can sell him and if (big if! ) he can get fit and. stay fit wouldn't you want to keep him?

22 Feb 2018 09:52:39
Sad though it is for Rossiter, the lad is clearly injury prone. Wouldn't the club's insurance policies cover the wages we have to pay for someone who has hardly kicked a ball because of injury? Tough too on McCrorie, Dorrans and Jack which makes the astute signing we made in January even more impressive. I'm sure that Docherty, Murphy and Goss will do just as well on the run-in and Cummings was also a good signing. Hopefully we can get the aforementioned injured players back and fit for next season, though I do feel Rossiter's time as a Ranges player should now be ended.

22 Feb 2018 10:10:55
Liverpool Ger no I wasn't suggesting paying him off rather I was suggesting not renewing his contract. If a player is constantly injured for the best part of 2 years then there is something seriously wrong!

22 Feb 2018 14:01:21
Fair enough Calvin but let's hope that he gets fit sooner rather later otherwise we'll be wasting our money for another 2 seasons. I think if he can get fit he could prove an excellent player for us and then maybe we will want to renew his contract. To my mind given its another 2 seasons what choice do we have but hope for the best.
