Sounds like they still lack a bit of self belief and need a cuddle from time to time. Give it another month or so and we should start to see a big improvement over the full 90 minutes.

Because they’re a new team, still learning the managers teachings and tactics, learning to play with each other etc.
Once Gerrard has a change to see what the players are not doing well, he is fixing that at half time and the players obviously understand what he is relaying to them at half time and implementing them in the second half.
They’re just a new team remember, been together a matter of months.

Really good to see graham dorrans back from his longterm injury tonight. He's been so unlucky and had a torrid time with injuries, since he signed for us. Doza will be like another new signing to stevie G, if we can keep him fit.
On his day, he's a very good midfielder. His vision for that tremendous, defence splitting pass for scott arfield at the end of the game tonight was sublime, to say the least! What a ball, as he gave their defender the eyes, before threading a terrific pass, for which arfield should have scored the winner from! Dorrans has that in his locker!

Dorrans looks sharp, I wasn't that impressed with him last season but he might just be the missing piece. That nice bit of footwork and that pass is what we need from the midfield. I'm looking forward to seeing how dorrans gets on under gerrard👍.

i’ve always liked dorrans and hope once fully fit he can provide the craft in final 1/ 3 to open teams up
some folk on here just don’t like the lad and have written him off but i’d luv nothing more than for him to come back strongly from what was a bad long term injury and do a job for us
most of our midfielders are quite similar ie jack coulibally mcrorie halliday and to an extent arfield all of whom can cover track back tackle etc but in final 1/ 3 you need that bit if quality which i believe dorrans can bring to our team

Dorrans did look sharp and even in the short time he was on played like the player we thought we were getting. Let someone hope he builds on this stays clear of injury and has a great season.

We've got to remember, that steven gerrard has only just put this team together and the strides of improvement in us already, is quite remarkable, imo! that's a terrific result for us tonight! A step up in quality again and still we produce a tremendous result in europe. Make no bones about it, Villarreal are a really good team. Tremendous 2nd half performance. We'll done stevie G, all his backroom team and all the players! Thought tav was our best player tonight.

Well said, our starting line up only cost 6 million Villarreal spent near 70 in the season summer. So proud of the players tonight 😭.

Superb result from what I thought was a dissapointing performance in some regards. If we can get a bit sharper and closer to the opposition then we'll be looking good.

Game of two halves tonight with the 2nd 45 more like what we can do with lots of room for improvement. Carried too many players tonight and missed Alfredo. In my opinion haliday has a poor game and should have been on bench with Mccrorie protecting back 4. Still we have jack to come back. Good to see Dorrans back too. With rossiter on the return soon I think the future is looking very good. Worrall also has decent debut. Looks strong in air and no nonsense.

You are joking blue nose, we were 11/1 to win and 15/4 for a draw. Yip first half we were slow but we gave them a game and done ourselves proud. Thought halliday played well. I don't think we did miss morelos, we look much better with lafferty up top👍.

Halliday constantly gave the ball away and on numerous occasions passes it straight out of play actually looked better when he moved to left back.

Great result it shows this standing off teams doesn't suit us get in at them, one observation is for the height we have we seem to do little damage at corners may need some work but delighted with a point 🇬🇧🇬🇧.

That's a great result considering we were pretty poor in possession. So many slack and lazy passes. Though arfield was very poor until his goal. Candeias was awful, so careless and wasteful and lacked any intensity. Positive that we took the few chances that we created as that's exactly what's needed on nights like this.

Think we have to remember Villarreal have spent 70 million this summer and have top quality players there. however apart from their goal they haven't caused too much of a threat. But we have to be better with ball. i'd like to grezda on and sadiq. sacrifice halliday and candieas. go 442 and get balls in the box.

They have however we have stood off them and allowed Cazorla to stroll through the game giving him so much space. Passing has been poor and have created nothing.

You could say that for every goal conceded, if he'd been a yard to his left he'd have got it etc. His position wasn't ideal but he was edging to the side the ball was meant to go before the pass was blocked.

how disappointing this whole affair with peat sfa and whoever . i can understand some saying its 10 years ago forget it that maybe true but in my mind it isnt. it is still going on . . every opportunity some get they jump on it as hard as possible we are under constant investigation and scrutiny from nearly everyone we are continually being biased against from the press, clubs and more maybe we brought some of it upon ourselves with some of our dodgy appointments. but to say that rangers blew it 10 years ago is a most personic statement the fact is that there ARE and were influential people in high places trying their best to destroy our club how sad that is . but we will have the last laugh and there will be nobody laughing as loud.

I reckon we have a chance to upset the odds but in one condition we come out high intensity and go for it
We can't respect this team too much just because they play in the best league in the world
If we can play decent technical football, keeping the ball on the ground and have the wingers play out their skins we have every chance of a draw at least!
I'm quite confident on how we shape up at the back our problem in the final third we need to get plenty service into Lafferty
I'd go with a 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1
Get stuck in and close down quickly!

A good performance is what I’m looking for regardless of the result. To be honest this type of game may suit us we have players who can be dangerous on the counter! I want high tempo and direct football tonight and if we can surprise a few people even better, moan the Gers!

I agree that the Spanish top league is better than the so called number 1 English premier league. Think the climate helps them lure the best players to them, and just as competitive.

Ldm 17 definitely the best league in world. most of the European trophies last 5 or 6 years have gone to spain that tells it's own story. English league way over rated imo.

Score draw me thinks . Going to be tough but nothing to lose . I'd settle for a good performance and narrow defeat, not really used to thinking that but given how far we've come so quickly I'd take it.
