***sorry, hit sent before I meant to***
As I was saying, terrible stats. Basically we currently have wingers playing where we actually need inside forwards, players who can contribute and create far more goals. Add to that the fact we play with 3 fairly defensive/ sitting midfielders who also don’t contribute many goals and there is our problem.
Therefore we either need to decide to play a 451 with the two wingers working hard to cover the fullbacks (as they do) but with 1 sitting midfielder and bring in 2 creative/ attacking midfielders to support the striker OR play 433 but with two actual supporting forwards rather than wingers, who are both able to get closer to the main striker and both create and score more themselves. Problem is these type of players don’t come cheap!
I’m not saying Kent may not develop into this type of player but currently although he is great to watch, his decision making and final ball are both poor. And although I do like him for his effort and work rate, Candieas just doesn’t offer enough in that position.

20 Mar 2019 19:25:02
you are spot on with regards to the team we should play with 2 attacking mid if we play with wingers or play with 1 attacking mid and 2 defence mid and two inside forwards.

Kent is great if you want someone to dribble with ball and do step overs all the time but he lacks end product and same goes for candelias on other side lack of end product from them both.
To move forward we need to add goals to the team and creativity with end product.

100% agree! Very similar to an earlier post of mine. We need the attacking midfielders to chip in with more goals and they can't do that whilst hugging the touchline or whilst in their own half. We need the attacking midfielder (left and right) to be more central at times offering support to the striker and allow the fullbacks to overlap and create the width which they generally do quite well.

We also need the midfielders to get ahead if the striker at times which they currently very rarely do.

@ger78

Good post - anyone in particular you would like to see brought in or anyone good enough you think we could attract to come in to fill the positions
At this minute I have no idea who we are going to bring in during the summer but by listening to gerrard they have players in mind just hope it’s a higher calibre of players then we have currently as we should always be trying to attract a better player than we have to fill any position a current player will lose upon leaving or for competition within what ever area they come in to play for.

I’ve had a few posts that I sound not very optimistic
But I actually do like Morelos he’s a strong player and has been good especially being left up front on his own his work ethic on the park is very good - he has missed a lot of chances but scored well also - he’s young hopefully he gets better if he stays longer at the club and matures

I have no idea what positions Gerrard will be wanting to improve and what players he’s looking at BUT I’m optimistic and hoping and praying we get the players out club needs and deserves to get us a force to be reckoned with again.

20 Mar 2019 22:24:46
Hi Thestigno1, Who to bring in for those positions really is the question and we can only hope our scouting system is much better than mine! Considering what our budget will be I’m guessing it’ll either mean trying to find younger players from abroad who are untested, problem with that is you don’t know if you’re getting a Morelos or a Grezda (having said that I’m still holding out hope that he may come good next season once he’s more settled, injury free and playing regularly, he’s certainly rated highly by Albania and realistically that’s the kind of markets we’ll be shopping in) . Either that or picking up an older player maybe on loan who’s not getting a game at s bigger club somewhere.
I’m just thinking back to around the Mcleish days when he sometimes played a front 3 consisting of the likes of Arveladze, Prso, Caniga with also the likes of Lovenkrand and Novo playing the wider forward positions.
Unlikely we’ll be able to bring in quality like that though unfortunately!

20 Mar 2019 23:55:56
Arveladze there’s a name I haven’t heard in long time
Big Prso also what a player he was

Totally agree could be going players untested but older players not getting a game for there club
But look where that has got us so far especially with Defoe
We actually have a great bunch of youngsters at the club already would be good to see them starting to get bedded into the team they could actually make the difference young hungry full of grit and determination

Looking forward to see Polster get his 1st full game and Jones coming in the summer
With hopefully Murphy back to fitness also Kamara looks a bargain
There is definitely some good young talent within the squad I just hope gerrard gives them there chance to impress in the team and see if they can maintain a place in starting line up instead of the players that are playing week in week out letting us down right now
Big McKenna from Aberdeen would be a great addition I think our defence has been pretty awfull lately

Suppose time will tell 👍.

21 Mar 2019 09:12:49
I think a 442 would appreciate the type of player kent is. We need a goal scoring target man striker. As I said in a previous post, we lack dig and creativity in the centre of midfield and this has to be addressed in the summer. Two cm's that can play a 442 is a must otherwise if we continue with the 433 we will continue to struggle against the better, more organised spl sides. One st play's into the hands of teams who are tight and compact. We are then forced to play wide, hoping that we get lucky from an aimless cross👍.

20 Mar 2019 16:17:44
Everyone’s obviously disappointed with what’s happened over the last few weeks and how things are currently sitting. We were all desperately hoping to win at least a cup this year but considering everything that has happened over the last 6/ 7 years maybe sometimes we can hope for too much too soon. We yet again changed our manager and entire squad over the summer, just as we have done almost every year since starting again. When you look at it that way we’re we really ever honestly expecting to go on and win the league? Yes the cups have been disappointing, no ones arguing that, but we are still growing and developing as a team. Maybe the good start and euro run ended up building expectation too high.

Anyway here is what I feel we need to do going forward. Gerrard is clearly trying to set us up in a similar style and formation to the likes of Liverpool and Man City with the 433 formation, which if played in the right way I believe will work. However here is our current problem: if you look at liverpool’s Front 3 their goals contribution alone so far is 20, 20 and 13 (not sure on assists) Our regular front 3’s stats are as follows. Morelos 29 goals and 6 assists (35 goal contributions in 44 games. Kent 5 goals 7 assists (12 contributions in 38 games) Candieas 6 goals and 6 assists (12 contributions in 48 games) .
Therefore Kent has less the 1 goal contribution ever 3 games and Candieas 1 in every 4 games! They are terrible stats for forward players playing for rangers.

20 Mar 2019 15:31:35
We are all hurting as our expectations for this season did not materialise and feels like the same thing happening year upon year. Steve has a great chance to show what he can do next season as the squad should be settled in by then.

We don't have the cash to compete with the manks but looking at their recent performances we have the players if properly managed could get us there.

I don't know if the manks deliberately play the waiting game by scoring a winner at the last kick of the ball, if they do then it's up to us and other teams to make sure to defend till the final whistle.

I for one have noticed for years now (regardless of who is in charge) that when we are in front we usually fall asleep and concede goals. We never go in for the kill against the top 6 of the league clubs.

20 Mar 2019 15:26:59
So Coulibaly is off then after all the great hopes and expectations we all had when he arrived.

Mind you there are a few still here who are the same position as him.

21 Mar 2019 08:10:13
he never recovered form after his injury. I think Kamara is better anyway.

20 Mar 2019 11:22:15
We must do everything we can, to keep our loanee winger ryan kent at rangers, beyond this season. Whether its another season long loan deal or not, we must do it. Obviously like the majority of us bears, i would love to tie him up on a permanent deal, although i do admit, he may be out our price range. Also liverpool rate kent and in all probability, will want to keep him. If its another 1 year loan deal, i'd take that right now, because anything can happen within the year and at least he'd still be with rangers!

20 Mar 2019 11:51:54
We all said the same about kent months ago, infact mark allen came out a couple of months ago and said that he had been in regular contact with liverpool about the possibility of extending kents stay. Better late than never I suppose coop👍.

20 Mar 2019 12:30:56
SCE. I have to agree with you about Kent he’s a good player But he has to stop getting bullied off the ball My Opinion.

20 Mar 2019 13:27:59
kent has played 32 games this season and has 5 goals 4 assists and started every game.
Middleton has played 26 games this season 5 goals 4 assist with his games been a lot of sub appearances.
So my point is why should we pay a lot of money for some one who has the same return of 1 of our own younger players who has played less games and risk stifling Middleton career.
We will also have Murphy and Jones for next season the club should save the money and buy a proper number 10 with the cash that is what we need.

20 Mar 2019 13:33:46
I think we need upgrade on Kent to be honest, we need more of an inside left that can get 10-15 goals, our width should come from our full backs if we are to stick so rigidly with this 4-3-3.

20 Mar 2019 13:34:07
Middleton has good pace and directness and has made an impact in a few games this season but he's too one dimensional at the moment. Too often he just looks to knock it by someone and run but with teams putting so many behind the ball there isn't the space to do that and he's not as effective. Despite having similar stats I feel kent has had a greater impact on matches, although he struggles with consistency as well.

20 Mar 2019 14:08:47
His stats aren't that great. I certainly wouldn't be breaking the bank for him. He's decent in a poor league. I would expect more of a return from a Rangers player on the wing than he has currently now. I would keep him next year if possible 100% but he is 100% replaceable. Jamie Murphy had better stats in 16 games last year in the league. I'm no convinced we will keep him. I expect a lot of change in the final third positions over the summer.

20 Mar 2019 17:55:53
Ryan Kent flatters to decive and is not good enough his stats this season are poor to be truthful.
He has had one outstanding game and then the rest have been ok.

20 Mar 2019 17:56:27
Jamie murphy is a far more complete player than Kent. more of a goal threat, more assists.

20 Mar 2019 18:28:03
I have to say I am and always have been a massive fan of jamie murphy.
I said on here when we signed murphy from brighton, that i was delighted and that he'd be a tremendous signing for us. Jamie murphy is so very direct and very skillful, who chips in with a good few goals, into the bargain.

20 Mar 2019 21:40:37
Can't see what anyone sees in either Murphy or Dorrans tbh. Murphy a left winger with no pace and no left foot and Dorrans a midfielder nthat can't pass two feet in front of him. He can't even master the sideways pass! We need players that are a higher standard or least on a par to those at Celtic. Neither of those two would get in their reserves. But if you fancy a walk down memory lane go and watch last season's old firm games and remember how great they are!

20 Mar 2019 11:06:33
Superb news, as graeme shinnie and his agent have totally ruled out any chance of a move to rangers. Said from the start not good enough or any improvement on what we already have, for that type of midfielder! We've got more than enough of that sort. Its a creative midfielder we're badly needing. A player that can pass the killer ball between the lines, to break the most stubborn of defences down and can also hit double figures in goals!

20 Mar 2019 11:40:23
So a player that has over run us in midfield in 5 out of 6 games and has only lost once against us, put us out both cups and bullied our current players is not good enough. That doesn't say much for your beloved jack who has failed continually against shinnie in midfield. If jack or the rest had half the heart as shinnie we might have had the upper hand against aberdeen. Played 6 won 1 drew 2 lost 3. Bizarre that you would think that a team that has pumped us all season would not have a player who would be good enough to play for us. 👍.

20 Mar 2019 11:49:56
Obfuscation Supercoop, you’ll love it when Shinnie signs.

20 Mar 2019 12:11:42
Obfuscation has to be the word of the day bankie😂👍.

20 Mar 2019 12:39:51
SCE Superb news for you If Shinnie doesn’t sign Have to disagree As Coldo has stated how many times he has bullied the Rangers midfield Can he not also play as a fullback Once again only my opinion.

20 Mar 2019 13:39:12
Yes but how many times has he been posted missing for Aberdeen in the games that aren’t against Rangers? He’s not good enough and better must be found to mount a challenge.

20 Mar 2019 13:47:19
Rangers midfield totally underperformed in most of the games against the sheep and that's why shinnie dominated. He didn't dominate in our 4-2 win at the sheepdome did he. Its all swings and roundabouts and the bottom line for me is shinnie is no better than ryan jack,
so we don't need a shinnie type of midfielder. I won't be swayed on this one. He ain't good enough IMO.

20 Mar 2019 13:56:26
1 win against aberdeen is exactly my point👍.

20 Mar 2019 14:13:26
The problem with rangers against Aberdeen is the lack of a final ball, their midfield is good at defending but to say that shinnie has run over the top of us is just nonsense, would however be an upgrade at left back.

20 Mar 2019 14:20:21
SCE Is that not a worry as you say the midfield Underperformed in most games And Shinnie has a bad game and Rangers win.

20 Mar 2019 14:40:06
Laudrupeleven, out of 6 games we have won 1 drew 2 lost 3, aberdeen's full team have run over the top of us. Or would you call it luck or a fluke? Failing to see the obvious is nonsense👍.

20 Mar 2019 14:47:11
You couldn't make him up cunny, talk about contradicting yourself coop😂👍.

20 Mar 2019 15:12:13
Was it Shinnie himself who ruled out Rangers?

20 Mar 2019 15:32:46
Have to agree with coldo ;-
Shinnie has single handedly ripped a new one out our midfield all season so far.
If what we have is better, then that's a lot of off days!

20 Mar 2019 15:29:09
I would call the draw at pittodrie a fluke, 1 shot on target and the 91st minute. But I don't see how a team that just sits back and has what 1 shot in target at ibrox in the 1 0 game and scores from a corner in the 86 running over the top of the midfield coldo.

20 Mar 2019 15:54:48
They dominated us in the majority of these games👍.

20 Mar 2019 16:11:15
Shining can fill in at left back
A better option than we have at the moment as he is the type of player suited to our league and he is free.

20 Mar 2019 17:58:11
Shinne is far better than jack coops in my opinion you talk some nonsense on here it’s embarrassing constantly contradicting yourself.

20 Mar 2019 18:35:41
Ryan jack as far as i'm concerned is better than shinnie! Laudrupeleven you've summed it up superbly mate.
They played defensive football and shinnie plays well in that system, with those tactics. Don't need him and we have currently better midfielders than him, already at rangers. We need better midfielders than him and a different type, not the same as what we already have. I'm more than happy with ryan jack and ross mccrorie as our defensive mids,
we don't need shinnie, simple as that!

20 Mar 2019 21:34:15
Celtic fan in peace . I woukd have shinnie at parkhead . Think he could be a replacemnt or alternitive to scott brown.

21 Mar 2019 00:05:40
Shinnie HAD to come out and distance himself from rangers the sheep would hound him if he signed a pre contract look at the way the trelated Ryan jack when he went up to Aberdeen to visit his family they are animals and hate the famous.

21 Mar 2019 09:08:25
Correct Blueblood1, obfuscation.

21 Mar 2019 12:27:10
Shinnie would be an improvement to our team and would be a good option at left back. Just can’t see supercooper’s argument about not being good enough to play in our midfield. Judging on all games against Aberdeen this season he has easily been the best midfielder and has had more of an impact than Jack. For me Jack does not produce it consistently and goes missing too often.
