It was the same challenge mcgregor made so if jones was straight red then so is mcgregors. McGregor didn’t even get a yellow so how is jones a red? Going by how the ref made previous decisions in the game it didn’t make sense. If mcg got even a yellow or yellows for some other challenges then yeah maybe but going by how he let everything go it didn’t make sense

The disappointing bit about today's result is that we lost to a very average Tic team, we just were poorer than them on the day. Aribo and Kamara really struggled, Arfield was off form and showed a shocking first touch, and maybe only Davis, Flanagan and Jack came out with any passmarks. Now we have to regroup and assert ourselves on this league. We are much better than Today's showing and hopefully this will spur us to greater things.

The right footed left back wasn't the reason we lost today mate. I agree that steven gerrard got his team selection wrong today in what was also a poor performance, by far too many of our players. We had absolutely no width and glenn kamara has looked a shadow of the player he was last season. We should have played with at least one winger to give us much more width and i would have started with morelos today,
even though i like defoe. Morelos would have been very confident after thursday night and i would have definitely given him the nod today.
Yes Gerrard got it wrong but that doesn't excuse how poor, a lot of our players performed today. I still think we have improved a lot under gerrard and a lot of our supporters are getting too hysterical regarding the slating of the manager. We take this sore defeat together on the chin, learn lessons from it and move on, because they're nothing special!

I agree. I was shocked when we had no width in the team and could work out how Aribo would fit in in a top 3. however when Ojo can e on he was woefull and looked disinterested. Just like the reports said he was in France last season.

It was our poorest game of the season and our passing was dreadful. The majority now need a massive kick up the backside as what was on display from everyone was very poor against a poor celtic team who just did the basics well.

Steven Gerrard Loyal, I never said a right footed left back was the reason for the defeat what I’m trying to say is we should have a recognised left back and play him I know Barasic had an injury from Thursday but he was on the bench and must then have been deemed fit but Flanagan is right footed and though he defended ok you don’t get much going forward as he can’t cross the hall with his left foot and when we had no winger there was no pressure put on them I’m not having a go at Flanagan he did the best he could.

I think we made a mistake by not starting with Morelos and having no width.

We also lost a lot of personal battles in the first half.

Think we had a bit of a better second half, and probably with how much we had the ball we had could have had an equaliser.

But they deserved their win, they were the better team.

The team that has the dominant midfielder in the old firm game, wins the game, simple as that. Their midfield were better than ours today and therefore won the game. Its always won or lost in there. Quite simply we had too many of our midfielders way off form and nowhere near their best. Steven Davis i thought was our best midfielder but that was never going to be enough.
Have to be honest and like many of our supporters, i thought today gerrard should have gone with more width, to go at their weak full backs. So gerrard has to shoulder a big part of the blame today,
although that still doesn't excuse how poorly most of our team played today, because celtic and i'm being totally honest, didn't Impress me greatly and although they deserved to win today, they are not a great team and are there for the taking!
A wee point to the some on here who still think that we are just as good without ryan kent, no we're NOT and kent is far better than jones and ojo will ever be! I wish we still had him. He's levels above both and if you can't see that, i honestly don't know what you're watching?

SGL, how did Kent get on in his first 6 games for us?

I seem to remember that he was a bit lightweight, had a terrible final pass and had people suggesting he should be sent home to Liverpool.

Time will tell whether you know better than SG and the Liverpool coaching team but I suspect you will be forced to eat your words long before the end of the season.

£5 to £7m for such a fantastic player is pocket money even in the Championship - can you explain why he has been left rotting in the Liverpool reserves?

Really poor performance today - this was a cup final, an opportunity to put down a marker that we are genuine title challengers. However the manager and the majority of players were poor. Mcgregor / flannigan were the exception.
Why play aribo in the same area as brown when arfield was excellent in there! He was bullied all day long. Why start the game with no natural width when both their full backs are awful.
Why don’t we have a natural left back - we all know barisc flannigan and Halliday are not the answer. We’ve had all summer to sort.

Not easy to watch that, Goldson should definitely be rested that's been coming for a while and Aribo today shown to be lacking in that midfield against legohead - Arfield should have been there with Aribo more in a supporting role. Gerrard, in my opinion got his team selection and therefore his tactics all wrong for today's game.
But does that excuse so many of our players having an off day?
Defoe, an experienced striker caught offside but also starved of quality service.
Davis, Aribo, Jack, Arfield and Kamara all giving the ball away at times or caught in possession.
Goldson giving the ball away.
Tav not getting forward as he can.
I thought Katic looked more a wee bit more nervous than his recent assured performances. Are we needing to see Helander alongside him and drop Goldson?
I thought Flannigan done alright.
Fortunately this game has come early in the season. That's the first I've seen of Celtic. They are nothing special.
Yes Gerrard made mistakes. Yes the team played badly. But we gifted them both goals.

Just listened to Gerards post match interview - never really explained what he was thinking of with selection and formation but he certainly expects players to leave but nobody to come in. That brings me to Ryan Kent, for those who say Ojo has started better than Kent and we don't need Kent as we've got Ojo and JJ, then look at today - Ojo was hopeless and JJ had a moment of madness and straight red. I'd say we certainly do need Kent. Now to Aribo, he was shocking and was like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Could Aribo be another Sean Goss, a player who arrived and was getting talked up, then had an OF shocker and was never the same player again? Anyway, back to today, that was an unforgivable performance (I can accept getting beat if we show passion, fight and determination) but there was none of that. Their fullbacks are hopeless and we should have been targeting them all day but again our tactics were shocking, 2 shots on target was disgraceful.

Missed Kent today we played with no wingers and not for the first time no idea what SG was thinking we were never going to score using Defoe up front alone with Aribo acting as a centre forward at times sorry that’s ridiculous. We should break the bank to get Kent surely we can sell a couple of players and use the group earning to get Kent. No excuses today the best team won they pressed us and stopped us playing our pretty little triangles but triangles and cute passes with no penetration is useless.

Aribo who seems to be getting the brunt of it was played out of position so couldn't affect the game! Playing 5 CMs didn't work Boly Boly wasn't tested no pace or width then you have one full back who can over lap and one that can do nothing going forward surely if your going to play CMs in and inside forward position you have to play attacking full backs both sides? . And for everyone out there who thinks Defoe brings more to a Rangers than Freddo I hope you watched that we're simply not the same against better sides with Defoe in the team!

I think the shape of the team was the big mistake today we needed one maybe two wingers given Boli and their RB where their weak links we needed to get at them early. Not doing so meant they both grew into the game. I don't think we played with the high tempo we have done past 2 occasions we have won at Ibrox. I also felt Arfield wasn't as close to brown snapping at him and not giving him time on the ball. Aribo has a bright future but the occasion passed him by today I felt he was played out of position in first half on the left. He looked better in second half. Easy to say after losing today but I can't help feel Kent would have caused them a lot of problems. Don't tight of Ojo or Jones just yet but Kent is the xfactor to help us win the league.

I for one have to question Gerrards starting 11. We simply didn't look like scoring, I think we had 1 shot from Ojo. Terrible performance from all at Ibrox. If there was a bit more fight and desire then I'd take the defeat slightly better but we were well beat at HOME.

Players can't find a pass, Defoe caught offside how many times?, Kamara - shocking, Arfield - off the pace, Aribo - rabbit in headlights, Goldson - shocking clearance led to the goal. The bigger picture - you can't go 3 points behind after 4 games and still expect to win anything. This should be 3 or 4 to that mob if it wasn't for McGregor. Disgraceful performance. I don't care what other fans do I just want to see Rangers stick up for us fans for once. Get uefa to define offensive singing and define sectarian singing (is The Sash sectarian for example) . EVERY club has songs that contain swearing and words that are "offensive" to their opposition should they be censored? Every week i'm called a person (usually followed by the B word) up and down the country.

I only speak English so I don't know (or care) what abuse is being thrown my way when we travel abroad but it would be naive to think no racial or indeed religious insults are being dished out. I just want fairness and Rangers should be ensuring we get that rather than just rolling over and taking what's unfairly given to us.

Jyf, I don't care what other fans do I only care about what we do and in my opinion Rangers as an institution need to move on from our association with any sectarian crap. What other clubs do or whether they are just as bad as us is irrelevant to me, we should act according to our own standards.

I would say though that now we have been punished by UEFA, the SFA will be looking for the next available opportunity to jump on the bandwagon. Please don't give them the chance, let go and support our team with passion but in a manner we can be proud of!

Why do we need UEFA to tell the fans what they can and can't sing? Let's get real here for a minute - EVERY fan should know and feel what their songs mean and the implications contained within them - if not then the fan is either a liar or a dolt. We should be honest amongst ourselves first and look in a mirrior and ask ourselves why we sing certain songs. If we can do that then we don't need UEFA - we just need the common sense and maturity to stop it. The problem is the trickle down of hate and intolerance to our young ones - a few of our fathers made a stand to wipe it out - can we do the same and give our kids a team to follow instead of a cause? I have been reading this page for a while and some of the comments from some of you guys in blue have been VERY encouraging so well done to you guys.

Excellent post Jyf. I've lived in England since 1984 and have often been called a 'Jock' or a 'sweaty sock'. I don't consider that to be offensive or sectarian. The Sash and Derry's Walls are about history so why would they be deemed as sectarian, though the swearing should be left out. Sectarian simply means of or characteristic of a sect, a sect being a small group of followers within a larger group.
However, in this day and age we should ditch these songs and avoid controversy, especially those shouting . Follow Follow and the Blue Sea of Ibrox are great songs. Swearing happens all the time at matches and I don't see that as necessary and consider it offensive if I'm at a game, especially if my wife is with me.
