Arfield isn’t a defensive midfielder so won’t come into the mix when Gerrard is picking that type of player. Going to be very interesting to see who he picks from the players mentioned. All these players will need to step up to the mark and whoever is picked will know there are a few players waiting in the wings. Finally it looks that our squad has genuine quality in depth

Some might say things as the OP and a 99% might disagree but why be nasty or sarcastic. Think both would improve our squad. Doubt they would be first 11 but both are young with potential. Remember if we manage to get through to the group stages of the Europa league we will be looking at around 60 games this season. We clearly need a lot of additions to bring our squad up to a standard that makes us competitive in all competition. I see both of these signings low risk due to cost, age and experience already in our League.

Well said colster spot on mate, it's getting bloody annoying, I think there will be a few on here dreading sharing any rumours they here in fear of being attacked by these unnecessary comments! Cummings and Jones coming in would be nothing but a plus in my opinion, like whosthedado said we will need a large enough squad to deal with a long hard season if we do manage to get far in Europe, not just Europe either, all the cup games in between league games too, plus they are both decent players, I think Cummings criticism is unfair, remember he was playing (when given the odd chance) in that flawed system and manager so what was he supposed to do? Given a real chance AND having clear instructions will help him a lot!

Daz my whole point is you can have a different opinion about a post, you just don’t have to be a d*ck about it. However I’ve read a few of Tommy’s posts down the page a bit and he is either from mhankyville or he is just being a total ar*e. Your right mate, posters will stop putting stuff up for fear of abuse. We all here some snippets and probably 99.9% are guff but I like the not knowing. I have no doubt we have Aliens in our midst who sign up to our page to disagree with every post and talk sh*te to get a reaction. that's up to them but when our own give abuse to one another that is poor in my book. 👍🏻

In my opinion neither Cummings or jones are good enough and I’ll explain why. You say that they would be good squad players or would improve the squad. However that is not what we need. We need players that will improve the starting eleven and therefore make the current starting players the ‘squad players’. And if you look at the signings so far each of them should do that. Macgregor is an improvement on foderignham, Arfield an improvement on the likes of Dorrans or Holt or Halliday of Docherty, and Gouldson and Klatic should be improvements on Bates and Martin. Why spend money on players that aren’t likely to be near to being first choice? Spend it on players ready to go into the first team, with current first teamers who aren’t good enough becoming the back up.
The way I’m looking at it is, would either of these players get near celtics first team squad? No. Then how are they going to improve us enough to get us challenging them for the league.
(Ps I’m not getting at anyone or slagging anyone off, it’s merely my opinion)

The point about the team/ squad for the new season is that we shouldn't be looking to sign players that are only better than we already have, but players who can match or better what that mob have. Could that be said of Jones or Cummings, i don't think so!

As it is I don’t think we are really interested in either of them. Maybe they are on a list of possibilities but I’d think only if we don’t get who ever our first or second choices are. Basically the journalists have no idea who we are after so are just dropping in the ‘usual suspects’ or names that have been previously mention in order to fill column inches.

To be fair there are a few really thick comments from time to time that really should not be uttered outside the pub on a Saturday.

When it comes to players, we all have our own opinion but they should be badges on some kind of reality. ie Ronaldo ain’t coming!

Cummings? For me, he was too lightweight and I don’t think he is the answer but if SG brings him in for a lesser fee than that agreed, I’ll get right behind him.

Anyone else think what we are missing in midfield is muscle? . Someone either massive or 'hard as' in a tackle. If you read Katics old managers comments then he's played in centre mid a lot (as well as playing as a centre half) . Crunch and pass (although I think he could be better than that) . Brown would certainly know that he's in a game against the big lad.

Rossiter might not be big, but the boy isn’t afraid of a hard tackle. If he stays fit I think he’ll be our best midfielder this season

If rossiter stays fit he will be out DM as is a qaluality player who is not scared to put his toe in. Who he plays with I’m not sure but personally I would play jack. If takes away some rash challenges he started great last season. Dorrans in more attacking role too

we still need a powerhouse centre mid who can break up play, and actully play football, what we have isn't good enough, we are to soft in midfield. i'm sure more bodies will be signed a lot of dead wood has gone clearing the way.

I wouldn't judge some of our squad from last season untl we see what they deliver under SG.
Let's just give them a chance, especially Docherty. He's a young promising lad, and not to be condemned by what he showed last season under Murts.

I think we need a creative mid/ no 10 more tbh, someone to unlock the stubborn defences.

Think a combination of arfield mccrorie, rossiter, Jack have enough about them in the engine room.

Steven Gerrard will know that we need an absolute leader in midfield, he will be looking at someone in the same mould as himself, whether he has someone in mind or he thinks that player is already at Ibrox is anyones guess, but in my opinion it should be someone experienced, strong enough and at the top of his game to be able to handle Brown, I don't think we should put the responsibility on one of our younger guys like Rossiter just yet, we need to keep him fit and give him time to get up to speed but he could be the one in the future
