A question here bears. I was asked this question at work today by a fellow bluenose. Is ian durrant the greatest ever scottish based, attacking midfielder, to come through our ranks at rangers? My answer was yes without a 2nd thought. So i'll throw that same question to all you guys on here, what do you think and if you reckon he wasn't then who was in your opinion?

18 Oct 2016 22:17:43
In that specific position then yes Durrant but complete midfielder it's Barry Ferguson for me.

18 Oct 2016 22:44:01
Durrant defo, Barry ferguson no danger.

18 Oct 2016 22:56:36
Durrant for me. I honestly think he would have been world class if that thug Simpson hadn't halved his leg.

18 Oct 2016 23:37:08
Although i say durranty i do know where j1985 is coming from with his assessment of our great former captain barry ferguson. Amongst some of us rangers fans i honestly don't think baz gets the credit he deserves. Baz had it all as the complete midfielder and no opponent he ever faced, no matter how big a name he had, could ever faze barry.

His ability to take balls in tight situations and make space for himself was quite extraordinary imo. He was the best scottish midfielder to come out of scotland over the last 20 years or so. Barry ferguson's ability to dictate the pace of a game was immense! A tremendous playmaker! The greatest of his generation bar none!

18 Oct 2016 23:57:06
Supercooper, durrant was the best footballer to come through, that's my opinion as well, though every time i hear his name i think of that fecking tackle, absoluotly no need for the serious assault on durrant, i also think of john kennedy, as much the same happened to him, we all know its a contact sport, but tackles like these (deliberate) ) should result in a sin died for ever.

i'm sure if such tackled resulted in being sin binned, most players would stop such tackles, they would only need to think about life back on a building site, or an office job (wages/ strugling to get by to let them know they've got it easy playing a game they enjoy, durrant and kennedy both got stopped from enjoying there work by brutes that probably wouldn't say boo to anybody in the street.

19 Oct 2016 08:48:44
ferguson is the only midfielder of the past 20 years to play with his head up.

19 Oct 2016 10:34:33
First saw Durrant in a reserve match when he was just a boy and the strip looked too big for him but from his first touch you knew he was first team material. First saw Ferguson in a BP under 17 final (i think) against Hearts and we lost 3-1 (I think) but Ferguson was the outstanding player by far on the pitch but Durrant shaves it for me.

19 Oct 2016 15:03:28
Clearly none of you remember st mirren legend Mark Yardley. Better than Pele.

19 Oct 2016 21:12:21
Big spare tyres Yardley lol. My dad Loved durrant n said he would have been world class if that thug hadn't done him he would have went right to the top, I was very young but have watched dvd etc of him n looked special, got to say Ferguson tho carried us at times.

18 Oct 2016 15:38:14
We got the battle fever on 🔴⚪️🔵.

18 Oct 2016 16:41:30
Now I'm definetly not havin a go here BUT the goal Miller scored was set up by Wallace and it was a peach, if it had been McKay bombing down the wing he would have had to get the ball onto his right foot to deliver a ball at the same pace Wallace was running he took it in his stride and it really highlights the fact were crying out for a wingers with a left foot! we're denying ourselves of this type of attack and its so frustrating!

18 Oct 2016 17:16:59
That's why I would drop McKay and play forrester or O'Halloran McKay has done nothing so far he needs to be benched always cuts back never hits the bye line or the corner flag wingers are suppose to be getting to the bye line and whipping balls in McKay doesn't do it at all and when he does he just gets pushed off really easily.

18 Oct 2016 17:47:32
I don't think that's mckays fault tho. I think the manager has reeled him in to look for the overlap and try and keep possession. Wallace only got that cross in because mckay came inside tho they make the same play every game only very rarely does wallace actually cross it in.

18 Oct 2016 18:36:25
That's why it needs to change cee ano the gaffer is stubborn and won't change but it's clear to see and especially against that mobb our fullbacks need to stay back this game cause they will rip us to shreds if Wallace and tav go bombing forward McKay has to be benched we need speed in the next team and ohalloran has it in abundance he would run up and down the paisley road west and cross in more balls than McKay.

18 Oct 2016 20:26:37
Forrester O'halloran would do the EXACT SAME! all right footers. A wingers charging down the wing would need to control to get onto preferred foot instead of just naturally crossing in mid-flow, imo I think Warbs may have deemed that McKay is the best out of them to fill that position I don't really know as I can see that husband form has been a bit up and down but not to the extent of Waghorn and the lads named and Dodoo are all itching to get on and we know Forrester has an eye gore goal but isn't getting a run. So frustrating!

18 Oct 2016 19:58:10
I'd play both McKay and O'Halloran, as both would put doubt into the Celtic fullback going to far forward. Young Kierney would have to think twice about bombing forward because he'd have no chance of getting back quick enough to catch O'Halloran and we all know Lustig won't bomb forward because he'd never catch McKay. my team for Sunday would be.

Wes

Tav
Wallace
Wilson
Hill

Halliday
Crooks/ Holt
Windass

MOH
Miller
McKay.

19 Oct 2016 15:20:08
I would definitely go with McKay as he has the talent there he he must turn up though .
I would also go with miller through the middle as he looks ten times better than waggy or garner.
I also think it is naïve to play three up front against this selik team as we will need players in the middle of the park as the will basically come out with 5 midfielders lik last time and our front men won't have a look in.

I was a massive fan of warbs but now he is starting to worry me by showing he has no intention of having a plan b.

19 Oct 2016 15:22:59
what is wrong with a good old attacking 4-4-1-1

wes
tav senderos Wilson Wallace
forrester holt halliday McKay
niko behind miller or miller behind garner.

19 Oct 2016 13:26:10
Warburton has already said that Gilks will play in the league cup games.

18 Oct 2016 14:18:29
So bears where do you think Harry Forrester stands in our team seemed to have a great start to the season now he's made his way out of the starting 11. I really like him and feel he should feature more along with MOH.

18 Oct 2016 15:18:42
Would really like it if we organised 1 or 2 friendlys during winter break, it would giv players like Crooks O'halloran any others who have not had a chance to prove themselves and a chance for us to have a look at them too. Also hopefully nxt yr we will finish in a Euro place meaning we miss Lge Cup group phase, if so I would love to see Rangers bring back the Ibrox Cup Tournament. No matter what I feel the squad must begin pre-season earlier than we did this year. What u think Bears?

18 Oct 2016 16:43:26
we have 6 games in December? I'm sure we will have a few injuries and players will get rested these guys will get game time. once we win the league we can give the squad players a game too lol ;)

18 Oct 2016 17:46:40
Good on you cee. Brought a smile to my ugly coupon there!

19 Oct 2016 15:32:05
forrester has magic feet and can take the ball in tight spaces I think he had a big of a minor injury and was rested but hasn't featured as much because of it .
he would be one of my first picks. he plays with his head up like holt and that's a major factor for me I think he should start every game as long as he is fully fit.
that's what annoys me soo much we play three in midfield which is where our best players are even if u play 4 in the middle like ; forrester halliday rossiter windass there is still an abundance of talent there that could play there McKay holt niko kranjcar moh crooks.
for me that's the main reason that we won't get close to selik this year not having enough of our best players on the park because of a 4-3-3.

18 Oct 2016 09:30:43
Couldnt MW move it about and bring Crooks into CD next to wilson or Hodson into that position both versatile players and could adapt. They couldn't be any worse than what we have and they aren't getting used (maybe injured though not sure) .
Look how good papac got he was a CD then turned into a very impressive LB.

18 Oct 2016 09:58:40
2 consecutive clean sheets. Not too shabby. How do you know Crooks is versatile? He's only played 20 mins. Couldn't see anything in him in that period of time. We're stuck with our CBs until January at least, let's get behind them.

18 Oct 2016 10:02:10
Monty, some people watch more than just Rangers games mate. Crooks is versatile, that doesn't mean he is good in CB, more capable than good.

18 Oct 2016 10:49:34
crooks played more games at centreback and as a striker last year than he did as a midfielder.

18 Oct 2016 10:52:23
OSA I watch plenty of football pal. I don't watch English football below championship level because the standard is poor. Being versatile in these leagues means nothing to me. I think you need to rethink your definition of versatility. You say he's versatile but might not be good in CB. So where else can Crooks the CDM play? Goalie? Or is it he can just play MC too like every other CDM in history.

18 Oct 2016 12:02:53
well Monty pal, he played as a striker (mainly due to his height) and done well I believe, he also played as an attacking mid for a few games done well, played at centre back too, done well, however he played his best as a CDM.

18 Oct 2016 12:05:18
Also monty your comment about below championship being poor standard, yet you watch Scottish football? I'll happily say league 1 and 2 is of the same standard as the spfl.

18 Oct 2016 15:56:19
I'm sure Windass and Crooks were in the Lge 2 team of the season could be wrong but the guy must have been doing something right eh? Like I said in my last post longer pre-season and re-introduction of the Ibrox Cup either before season or during winter break at least arrange a friendly. Let me know if my info on Crooks Windass is correct.

18 Oct 2016 16:44:20
it's obvious from the little we have seen of windass he is a special player, crooks has his work cut out with halliday and rossiter ahead of him.

18 Oct 2016 20:10:12
Andy 1872
In case you're still interested Crooks was in the League 2 team of the year but surprisingly Windass wasn't.

18 Oct 2016 21:24:16
I said at the start of the year that we had signed two quality players in Big Garth and Windass and both would relish the challenge and experience that being with Rangers will bring - Garth has loads of versatility by the way - absolutely loads -.

18 Oct 2016 22:49:11
OSA fair enough, he's been proven versatile at league 2 level. Saying SPFL is an equivalent level is nonsense. Top 4 SPFL teams would run riot against a league 2 side and the rest would win comfortably unless they were having an off day. Each of the positions that Crooks has played bar CB, we have lads queuing out the door to get a game in those positions. You asked why I watch SPFL? Because my beloved Rangers play in that league. Don't think I would watch it otherwise. Needs fixing. I'm going to wait until I see this lad have a run of games in our league and see how he turns out before I start asking for him to replace our natural CBs.

18 Oct 2016 23:48:13
Let's see what Warburton's central defensive pairing is on Sunday and how they perform. A clean sheet against Celtic and I will give them respect but for me it is no big deal to get a 1 - 0 win against Inverness.

There is little doubt that we have improved and we have players like Forrester that isn't in the Starting eleven and guys such as Rossiter, Crooks, Windass and MOH that are all capable of playing some should expect to see 100% for 90 minutes from those that do start!

We still need a quality centre back though, to partner Wilson!

19 Oct 2016 15:47:40
imo changing the defence last week didn't make any sense. in training u see who is the better pairing as a manager sor why not get a back 4 stick with thm and let the gel the way two cb's should instaed of this changing the defence about carry on.
everyone know you should build from the back and we are now paying for that mistake our management made .
don't want warbs to go as he is good managers but he needs to stop being stubborn and realise he is at rangers and second isn't good enough. and playing the formation he does is naive.
