Anyone have any ideas as to who the other striker will be that we are want to bring in?

18 Jul 2016 08:53:26
I said maybe a month ago I think Gabriel Obertan would be a great signing

Fits Warbutons signing policy, player with loads of potential but lost their way, can play right across the front and is out of contract also is only 27

Thoughts?

17 Jul 2016 19:19:45
My assessment on the Motherwell game.

I feel that Wes is a good keeper and I feel our defensive frailties may leave him open at times so I can't be over critical of the man hopefully with an experienced CB with Wilson he will be able to command his box. Pulled off some good stops to keep us in the game. 7/ 10

Tav is always great going forward no doubt about it but he was suspect when Motherwell were creating chances early. Scored a cracker to put us ahead. 8/ 10

Rob Kiernan I feel is the weakest link in our defence maybe him and Wilson or him and Tav just can't play together and he might be more comfortable with Lee Hodson/ Hill beside him. 5/ 10

Wilson I have always been a fan of I think he has real quality on the ball for a centre half has bags of experience and is an Academy graduate this could be the time for him to establish himself as our best centre half (Which I think he currently is anyway before a signing is made) . 7/ 10

Haliday has shown he must be played further up the park to make an impact and maybe that's why I'm personally harsh on him. Made a great goal line clearance but for me contributed to defensive frailties. 6/ 10

Holt was surprisingly quiet and if I'm honest didn't really do much in comparison to his normal standards. Maybe he is the type of player who really needs a preseason to get going I still have high hopes for Holt this season. 6/ 10

Forrester I feel was similar to Holt and is obviously trying to regain match fitness after an injury. 6/ 10

Mckay for me still showed us he has real quality and will make us a lot of money probably sooner than we will hope. 7/ 10

Kenny Miller does a lot off the ball that doesn't really get appreciated and makes a lot of runs that don't always get seen. Always a hard worker and always offers something different. 7/ 10

Waghorns left leg. 8/ 10

SUBS

Krancjar is clearly miles better than everyone around him even barton when it comes to technical ability. If he can get and remain fit will be our best player by a mile.

O'Halleron looks dangerous and I was pleased with what I seen of him.

Windass highlights the gaffers philosophy of adding something different. Was definitely more direct in midfield and has a physicality about him.

Excited to see every signing play as I feel in most cases they will improve the squad significantly with what they will bring although I feel we do need a CB to partner Wilson.

17 Jul 2016 19:29:23
Great post RossW.

{Ed041's Note - agreed

17 Jul 2016 19:58:07
Can't argue with your assessment mate, well put together, well done RossW!

17 Jul 2016 21:33:37
Fod 7/ 10
Still looks shaky every now and then.
Don't think he's vocal enough.
Might be the reason the two in front of him struggle from time to time.
Waldo 8/ 10
Solid as ever
Wilson 7/ 10
Looked better today
Kiernan 5/ 10
Needs to get his sh! t together, hopefully Hill will give him a few pointers when he plays
Tav 7/ 10
Again unconvincing defending but going the other way really good.
Think the new kid may oust him.
Halliday 6/ 10
Quiet day
Holt 6/ 10
Quiet day
Forrester 6/ 10
Quiet day
Kenny 7/ 10
Absolute workhorse
Waggy 8/ 10
Maybe proving a point and looking for a wee bit more on his contract offer but as usual worked his socks off and scored a cracker.
Barrie 7/ 10
Showed a few classy touches
Think he was trying to do too much yesterday and missed an open goal.

Nico 7/ 10
The boy has some touch if we can get him fit he will be an absolute cracker for us
MOH 7/ 10
Thought he looked quick and direct would like to see more of him
Windass 7/ 10
He looks strong direct and quit full of himself could be a great signing

Really looking forward to seeing the rest of the signings . I think we've got a cracking team being built. Not sure I could pick a first 11 at the moment and we've not seen Rossiter Crooks Barton maybe Dodoo another striker and a centre half. Man I'm looking forward to the new season.

17 Jul 2016 21:49:53
Not a bad post and mostly agree with your comments regarding the players and the performances. Think Forrester is the type of player who could do with a run of games before getting to his best. Defence though was awful and I'm not convinced with either centre halves both too slow and don't command the air. Tav once again great going forward but poor defensively.

17 Jul 2016 22:45:09
Our goalkeeper needs to learn how to come for cross balls and he must control his six yard box. He needs to improve considerably or along with our two centre backs he will cost us goals against the better teams.

Halliday is not a holding midfield player and Crooks, Barton and Rossiter will all be ahead of him for a starting role.

I di not think that McKay had a good game and again he needs to play consistently like he did against Celtic or he won't be starting. We simly can't carry passengers in this league.

Holt was poor by his own standards and will also come under pressure if he does not up his game. Everyone else I thought, played reasonably well and the worst person on the pitch was the referee that missed the goalkeeper's handball outside the box and the defender's handball inside the box!

17 Jul 2016 23:51:49
I thought middle to front we looked good especially the second half add to that the prospect of 1 or 2 more attacking players and we should have plenty of options and fire power for the season ahead! But our defence at times is shockingly bad I know we play that far up the park it will leave us short at the back and open to the counter attack but to be honest I personally don't think either RK or DW are good enough neither talk to each other it's like they've just met and its their first game together half the time. DW is probably the better footballer but we need a cb who is quick and aggressive in the air. But all in all I was happy enough considering it was our second game and I'm looking forward to going to ibrox on Tuesday and seeing how the new guys get on.

19 Jul 2016 00:40:10
Rossw i just about agree with your op post, but seriously think big wes will be no2 shortly, he is a good shot stooper granted, but can't command his box, to fumbly when put in that zone, i think if the reserve keeper puts on a good show tomorrow he won't be long in taken the jersey, tav gets caught out tto far forward, though can hit a ball, i think once our new signing bed in they will all be first team choise players, until we come up against lesser opposition, my opininon only.

19 Jul 2016 05:10:48
liked your post Ross think it should be a regular thing! :) Anyways I'm still undecided as to our No1 but whoever Warbs opts for I think he should giv the Lge cup to the back up whoever it may be? as for our defence I think Hill will shore it up and be 1st pick, would like to seriously Ball next to him but if the situation is Warbs going with Hill and Wilson then rotating with Kiernan Crooks and Ball I'm a happy Bear. Would love to see a 30yr old Amorouso arrive somebody big and experienced but who is available with our financial situation? after Dodoo and hopefully Ball can see Warbs bringing in 2 attack minded loans the boy Winks I think will still arrive.

17 Jul 2016 19:09:57
What do we all think of our new home top? Plain and traditional just a pity we can't buy it just now, there was a guy wearing it sitting near us at fir park yesterday, we were talking to him and we all noticed that the quality of the top was outstanding but we then found out that the guy had actually got the top that's actually worn by the players themselves, cracking top I think the best puma home top to date and this is the 4th one, what do we think smarter than last year's home top or not?

17 Jul 2016 19:13:40
the 3 kits are cracking, wish I could get them.

17 Jul 2016 19:20:57
Are the tops sold to the public of inferior quality to those worn by the players?

{Ed041's Note - They are slight different yes.

17 Jul 2016 20:09:06
Yes Fd, we only get replica tops sold to us mate, there is a difference in material quality, some clubs do allow you to actually buy both ie. the tops the players wear and the replica tops that are the usual ones sold to us, in saying that I remember one of the recent home england tops that the players wore were available to buy and they were something like 90quid as well as selling the replica tops at 55/ 60quid, some england fans were really unhappy but at least you had a choice, I think it would be a good idea for rangers to make the 2 kind of tops available to all our fans thus giving us the individual the chance to buy the top they wish, this idea could make our club a lot of money once this retail divide is fixed, what do we think good idea or not fellow bears?

17 Jul 2016 20:20:01
Thanks W15. Think you are right and could represent a revenue stream opportunity once we get things sorted.

17 Jul 2016 21:18:22
Very similar to the 'CR Smith' top from 85/ 86. Looks pretty good.

17 Jul 2016 21:34:01
Yip the exact same design, I remember our new player/ manager graeme souness posing with this top when he became our player/ manager all those years ago, god makes you think where does the time go, absolutely flown by.

17 Jul 2016 16:51:59
can anyone throw some light as to why the bbc online football latest yesterday only had one game that you could read live texts that game was of course livingston v st mirren the all championship game . must take preference over the all priemership game? tut tut bbc!

17 Jul 2016 18:48:42
The gers were the game on the radio mate as much as i dislike the bbc they did have us on that believe me trying to get it in marbella was a nightmare.

17 Jul 2016 19:35:34
and its a public sector broadcaster funded by the licence payer.

17 Jul 2016 14:27:18
Can anyone else see a bronze statue of Frank Mcparland outside Ibrox in the future lol?
I still can't get my head round the players we have brought in for less than a million.
Celtic could go out and spend 10x that and I still don't think they could match who we got.
Barton - Class above the SPFL
Kranjcar - see above
Rossiter - Future England star?
Windass - Looks as if he could easily play in the EPL in a few years, big, fast and technically gifted with an eye for goal.
Dodoo - Looks like a star in the making from what i've seen so far.
The rest are perhaps less exciting but just as impressive, for different reasons. It really just is fantastic business no matter which way you look at it. As I said above if we spent £10-15m getting this squad together I'd still be delighted, for next to free is quite astonishing. I take my hat of to the man!

17 Jul 2016 14:53:01
He should be our next signing get him tied down to a 10 year . He's going to make us a tidy profit on just about every kid we pick up from down south.

17 Jul 2016 15:09:11
How about a statue for a corner kick coach instead? Until FIFA officially ban corners from football I'll watch in amazement our attempts, offensively and defensively. I've seen much better in Sunday league.

17 Jul 2016 16:43:43
Maybe volunteer your services as defensive and offensive coach, clearly you will be better than Warburton and Weir, they are rubbish. 🤔🤔.
.
Sorry if a bit facesius but come on!

17 Jul 2016 17:42:24
Bronze statute?!?!

Possibly the most ridiculous idea I have ever heard. Not limited to rangers or football in general.

I can only assume you are a comedian trying out new material.

Bronze statutes are for club icons and legends. Not for scouts.

I'd love it if MW or anyone in current team is successful enough to warrant one in the future.

17 Jul 2016 18:29:18
Calm down Mr not so Nice, if you read the post again the words lol were put there especially for people like yourself devoid of any sense of humour.
The point was he's doing a good job.

17 Jul 2016 19:23:02
FMcP was one of the most under rated signings we have ever made the guy really is at the top end of scouting.

17 Jul 2016 14:25:13
I get the feeling matt crooks will be played as a centre half this year. Midfield looks pretty solid as it is and at 6ft 4 is what we're needing in defence.

17 Jul 2016 14:37:09
Seen the manager mention Mariappa again which is not like him. Fair enough he said the deal wasn't live but to even mention him makes me think that might still be on the cards. I'd like to see Wilson/ Mariappa this year or Wilson/ Crooks if we don't sign him.

17 Jul 2016 14:47:51
We definitely need someone good in the air who can attack a crosssed ball. Saying that I think we're in good shape, so excited for the season.

17 Jul 2016 20:27:53
Cannot wait to see Crooks in action, have heard so many positive things about him.

18 Jul 2016 01:49:03
Crooks was in league 2 team of the year as a DM and has said himself Midfield is his position. The only scenario I see him playing defence this season is for cover or to rest players, other than that, he will be competing with Barton, Rossiter and Halliday for a place in the middle, with Holt, Kranjcar and Windass challenging for the more advanced midfield position.

The options are crazy to be honest, so many players can interchange between 2,3,4 positions, Halliday could even find himself on the wing sometimes, Forrester in the middle or out wide, really just depends on who is on form, or maybe even the tactics Warbs wants to employ on the day. Teams will struggle to lock us down because we have so many options, but the balance seems right, not too many.

17 Jul 2016 13:59:40
Anyone notice how Kiernan was at fault for every Motherwell chance in the first half? Always two yards behind his man.

17 Jul 2016 14:14:20
Much prefer Wilson to Kiernan, I just don't rate Kiernan at all. Wilson I still think could actually be our best defender, with the right partner beside him. His tackling and passing has a bit class about them, he just needs somebody who can read the game in beside him to keep him right because technically there's not much better than him in Scottish Football. I know I'll get slated for saying that, but it is my opinion. And Liverpool don't pay £2m for a 17 year old for nothing.

17 Jul 2016 14:35:34
nope taverner was at fault a lot more.

17 Jul 2016 15:00:27
I thought Tav defended well yday to be fair. I would rather have attacking FB's who ship the odd goal anyway. Better to watch and they create more than lose. No way Tav cost us 15+ last season. It's essential to the passing game we play, when the bus has been parked like yesterday and all of last season Tav and Wallace were the extra bit of quality in attack that won us so many games imo.

17 Jul 2016 15:40:35
There was little cover in midfield, Halliday ran about like a blindman and the sooner Barton and Rossiter are in the team the better.

17 Jul 2016 16:09:53
Tom42 the blind man that cleared from the line early on? the blind man as you call him could be the blind man that saved us from defeat, imagine he never cleared the goal line, totally different scoreline for sure.

17 Jul 2016 17:48:43
Part him and part bad tactics. Lost count of how many times I heard commentator say "bad defending from rangers".

Need to tighten up as Motherwell did have good chances from simple crosses and punts up park.

Hopefully that's something that we will work on, along with moving ball bit quicker. But for a first game some thought we would lose, I thought it was a decent start - they could of scored but we could also have got a few more.

17 Jul 2016 18:57:19
Always been pro Wilson myself. Feel as if people forget he was injured and forced to play at the start of last season and looked it. Looks a lot more solid now and can definitely pass the ball.

17 Jul 2016 18:58:24
Got the result we needed yesterday so the Warburton bandwagon is back on the road. Early doors but some very familiar patterns to last season; would have benefitted from an out and out striker, the defence kept it interesting right up until Waghorn got the second in the 91st minute and Wes proved to be a good shot stopper but hesitant when the ball is in the air. A bit disappointing to be reliving the shortcomings of last season but lots of positives to consider too. Wag and Tav still got it and combined well, Windass and MOH looked direct and full of pace and menace, good to see Harry back in action, ( not his best performance but some nice touches) and Niko looked pure quality. And look who we still have to bring in. The defence is where we need the most reassurance! It will be interesting to see what Gilks brings to the party and see if we feel any more confident - I certainly expect him to dominate the box and deal with the high/ crossballs better than Wes. As for our much criticised centre backs - in time I am sure Joey will offer better cover and this is bound to help. Clint could prove to be better than both our regulars. I still think Danny Wilson is a footballer, much more so than Keirnan who looks to be the week link based on decision making and technical execution. Hopefully this is an area we will further strengthen. Know I will get peters for this but just for the craic, anyone think Charlie Mulgrew could do a job? I have always rated him; good, solid and reliable, good touch on the ball, good in the air and always seems to be able to raise his game. Would be great to help Brenda make another poor decision. Anyways, can't wait to see who the last few additions will be and then 55, we're coming for you!

17 Jul 2016 19:00:54
But recbob hits the nail on the head I always felt that Wilson had class about him all forgetting he actually came through our academy as well is he not a childhood rangers fan? and he made us a few million in a transfer as well I don't know why the guy was getting stick I felt the weakness in defence was always right sided and have said so on many occasions (Kiernan and Tav can't play together)

17 Jul 2016 12:30:24
With Greg Stewart out of contract next summer I've heard that Rangers, Hearts, Aberdeen and Blackburn Rovers will fight it out in January to sign him on a pre-contract. He rejected a new contract from Dundee in about May and then they slapped a £1m price tag on him so all of the clubs are just ready to battle it out in January. Hopefully Rangers can come out on top in this deal, some player and also costs nothing.

17 Jul 2016 13:24:11
Sorry Rangers Loyal, don't think we need greg stewart, not in the slightest, we've got more than enough who play in the position he plays in.

19 Jul 2016 05:21:27
I agree that at the moment we don't need Greg Stewart but Barton and Nico are only here for 2 seasons poss 3 for Nico so I think Stewart would be a good investment.

17 Jul 2016 11:54:59
Thought on yesterday bears? Thought we started terrible. But then calmed down and started playing our own stuff. Was delighted with performance overall. But there's two things were crying out for. And the Main one we all know is a striker. A vocal point too many times we work the ball into good areas and all it needs is a cross or dink into the box. Decent striker would easily score 20 this season with all the chances we create. And centre half with a bit of good recovery pace. Happened all last year getting caught out at the back. And even yesterday. Recovery pace. Hill Wilson and kiernan aren't the fastest over the ground and with the way our full backs push forward. We will get found out. Moh windass and kranjcar looked the part when they came on too.

17 Jul 2016 10:40:20
Anybody else think O'Halloran looks out of place with us and that he doesn't fit in? When he comes on it's like when somebodys brought a mate to make up the numbers and nobody knows him.

17 Jul 2016 10:55:29
Completely disagree mate, if it was me I'd start him every game on the right wing, one of the only wingers we have who can actually put a ball in, give him a chance.

17 Jul 2016 11:32:22
My god some people will never be happy, give the boy a chance, last year his game time was stop start, some players take time to settle into a club like Rangers, it's a massive difference from st. johnstone, I hope he turns out to be a good buy, but even if he doesn't, we will still get most of our cash back because he only cost us 500g.

17 Jul 2016 11:33:00
With you GersB 200% on this one my friend, I also would have moh starting every game wide right for us, I honestly don't know what a small minority of our supporters have got against o'halloran and seem to be on his back constantly, said until I'm blue in the face watch michael o'halloran go this season and for the constant doubters give the guy a chance and wait and see how he does this season, I'm extremely confident that you guys will be eating a bit of humble pie long before the end of the season!

17 Jul 2016 11:52:43
He looked that way at times last season, but he had undoubted quality. The 2 games he's featured in this season he's looked brilliant. He'll be like a new signing this year.

17 Jul 2016 11:58:33
Think O'Halleron looked good when he came on yesterday although I don't think he is our best crosser of the ball. I've never been against him as a player more the transfer fee we paid for him which at the time was unnecessary and you can't say only 500k when he is our most expensive player if you rate the value of what he offered last season (nothing, which again I add is nothing against the player he was cup tied) in comparison to the price we paid it was senseless to sign him at that time and I stick to what I say if we dropped the "king has no money" fiasco we could have signed him right now for much less. He himself has said that MW would have came in for him in the summer if we didn't agree a fee. Never worth 500k for 6 months of play where he was cup tied was always stop start and could never fit in although I think he will be good this season. If you talk about value for money he wasn't especially in comparison to every other signing we have made.

17 Jul 2016 11:59:51
he looked ok but seems to have blinkers on, hopefully Warburton and weir can improve his overall footballing ability.

17 Jul 2016 14:34:37
To be fair to MOH it was pretty stop start for him last season when he came in and he also had to adapt to the way we play which could not have been easy for him, but when he came on yesterday I thought he done well i really think he will do well for us this season although I felt a bit like you about him last season but like I say it must have been difficult for the lad.

17 Jul 2016 14:04:14
He looked good yesterday.

17 Jul 2016 15:38:33
Moh has not had an outstanding game for us yet but I keep seeing glimpses of class. Once he has settled and had a few games in a row he will be decent. When windass came on yesterday moh had some good play! Very direct which is whT we lack sometimes.

17 Jul 2016 15:41:58
I thought that MOH contributed more in the tim he was on the pitch yesterday than McKay did for the entire game!

17 Jul 2016 17:53:48
You must have been watching another match then because McKay was brilliant. And I thought MOH did well when he came on.

17 Jul 2016 17:54:08
Rate him or not- it's a make or break season for him.

17 Jul 2016 18:02:38
I think you'll find lvlarkGraham that michael o'halloran did have an outstanding game for us against st. mirren at ibrox last season, he was skipping past the st. mirren defenders with ease that night.

17 Jul 2016 10:29:49
anybody know who we have as trialists at MP?

17 Jul 2016 16:49:32
BC88; you are surely at the wind up? MOH looked good, driving at players, committing people and basically causing mayhem in their defence everytime he attacked and got behind his man.

17 Jul 2016 10:22:40
The chat is all about the defence yesterday and IMO its not good enough.
Big wess looked lost with that attempted punch clearance on the 6 yard line.
The rest of the defence looked fragile at best.
Why not look at the lads in the Iceland team strong in the air and could play on the deck.
We need two big aggressive lads. Look back to the Celtic game and the two free header's that had from corners one went in an the other was a bad miss.

17 Jul 2016 10:32:41
At present I feel that we are more than a match for them in midfield however their defence shocking as it is and attack is better than ours. Hopefully we will get a no nonsense centre half and an out and out striker think then we will challenge for the title.

17 Jul 2016 11:37:18
We definitely need another central defender, but Barton and rossiter will also help to stiffen up our back line, but the way we play also exposes our centre halfs, but we defo need to get better at defending set pieces, that's why we lost the cup final, I thought wes fod had a good game yesterday, but I suppose we all see it differently.

17 Jul 2016 13:18:11
The goalkeeper is the biggest worry. He is hopeless at crossbars and does not control his six yard box.

The two central defenders will benefit from having Barton and Rossiter in front of them although I do feel that we will sign a quality centre back.

17 Jul 2016 17:56:58
The big goalie kept us in the game with some great stops. He is still young for a goalie and will come good I'm sure.

17 Jul 2016 10:22:16
Great to see how positively our manager is talking about Joe Dodoo and that we're getting a centre back and striker in on top of that deal.

Can't wait for the game on Tuesday, Hodson, Gilks, Barton and Dodoo could be involved if he has signed. Windass from the start, O Halloran from the start, who has been like a new signing.

The most interesting could be Lee Hodson though. Competition for both full back positions was something that was lacking last season and this signing could turn out to be very crucial the further the season goes on.

17 Jul 2016 11:38:00
Good post mate.

17 Jul 2016 09:59:03
Can't understand the criticism of Andy Halliday, thought he was solid and sprayed passes around! Would be better further forward I think! forrester seems to love playing for the Rangers, the guys just back from an injury, he is a class act! anyway we are back and we are the people!

17 Jul 2016 10:34:12
Problem with Halliday is his lack of pace was caught a few times yesterday and looking at the players we have signed in midfield he will only be a squad player.

17 Jul 2016 11:41:11
Halliday will get plenty of pitch time this year, although he might not be a regular starter, him and holt might not start as many games now, but we're starting to get a good squad together.

16 Jul 2016 23:29:11
Amazing to think we will sign Dodoo and a striker and defender as stated in recent interview by Warburton.

This 12 month transformation is incredible can you imagine in 2-5 years time.

Looking at the players at disposal and with additions expected it's not such the lean squad the magic hat favours.

Lastly, Mike Ashley must be thinking what a gigantic feck up he's made, why? He could be coining it in if contract terms were better with the club but instead is frozen out and the fans hard earned cash isn't filling his tills.

May the streets be broad and narrow.

Roll on kick off :-)

17 Jul 2016 11:46:47
That's what really annoys me about Ashley, see instead of him lining his greedy pockets, he could have made a go of getting involved with helping turning the club around and invested properly, but thank god for Dave King and the 3 bears, they are doing an outstanding job, our club is being run properly for the first time in years, plus we aren't spending money we don't have, good times to be a gers fan.

My lifelong pal who stays down in liverpool and has done for 23 years now had a good football blether with me yesterday once I came home from fir park, we were talking about the season ahead for both rangers and liverpool and our chances of winning our respective league titles, he's now a liverpool season ticket holder but is also a rangers man and he thinks both can win their leagues, of course I said rangers will don't know about liverpool (friendly banter) , when I said joey barton was our best signing for this season he disagreed with me, don't get me wrong he rates barton very highly but told me that jordan rossiter was rangers best signing, he went on to say rossiter will go on to make rangers at least 10million quid in the transfer market within the next 3 to 4 years, that's how highly he rates rossiter and he said all liverpool fans rate him very highly and can't understand why he was allowed to go to rangers, he said we've signed an absolute gem and will be lucky to keep him 2 or 3 years at ibrox, have to admit I watched rossiter playing for the england under 19's against france in the euros and he was excellent and can't wait to see him playing in a rangers jersey, he said just like I heard others say when we signed rossiter that he's very similar in style to steven gerrard, that will certainly do for me, really excited now by these comments regarding young rossiter and a massive well done to frank mcparland who had a big influence in us signing rossiter as he had nurtured him from a very young age.

Great post W15.

17 Jul 2016 09:49:10
Yes Warbs, I think your mate could be on the mark. Having seen some footage of young Rossiter, he plays in a similar way to Barry Ferguson at his best. Joey Barton's experience and our style of play will let the lad flourish.

Superb post, our club is being built back up from being ripped to shreds, that's why I won't be to disappointed if we don't win the league this year, I'm not being negative, I just think it might take us a few transfer windows and if we can get into Europe next year and sort out our shirts deal and get more money into the club, we are being run superbly well, but it's the fans season ticket cash that if getting us the players we are this summer, so when we start to get more income into the club, we can get even stronger, I'm so excited for August the 6th.

Actually think this season we could have better chance of winning league than 17/ 18. We are the new guys and none of the PL sides really know how to play against our offensive formation. Also would not underestimate quality of player MW adding with real competition in all positions. Celtic are in turmoil and denial and will spend the next weeks salvaging their pride in Europe, playing meaningless glamour friendlies, and paying lots of money for panic buys that have not been thought thru. We also have fantastic spirit of comradery and unity of purpose on and off the pitch. I am optimistic.

I'm with you Fd, this year is ours! I think Rodgers has vastly overrated his squad. I said on here about a month ago that everything he was saying was music to my ears, like 'keep Johanson, build a team round Brown" etc. I think Rodgers thought because Celtic have won 5 in a row they are on a par with previous Old Firm Champions of the past that could reasonably expect to get to the group stages of the Champions League, or potentially stay in the Europa to after Christmas. In reality Celtic are marginally better than Aberdeen and have been the laughing stock of Europe since we left, setting new records of early exits.
We were lucky that MW could come in and change the whole squad because we only had an average Hibs team to contend with. By the time Celtic have got rid of the deadwood and replaced them with Rodgers's own players I feel that we could be settled and firing on all cylinders.
Yesterday when we were taking the likes of Miller, Forrester and Holt off and bringing on MOH, Kranjcar and Windass it really kicked in how good our options are, and we still have 2 more potential attackers coming in. And arguably our 2 best midfielders and defenders (Barton, Rossiter, Hill and Crooks) never even made the squad. We are in well better shape imo.

Warburton stated still striker an defender still to come even with dodoo coming.

17 Jul 2016 01:21:58
Best video available for our new signing Joe Dodoo. Was originally sceptic of the lad but judging on his finishing alone on both feet, this could be a stroke of class picking him up just before he starts to show his qualities on a larger stage.

The boy has talent. He looks strong as well as having good pace. I hope he signs it would be great to have a skillfull player who takes people on with confidence. Barry could learn from this boy, particulrly the confidence. I sometimes feel Barry could do with a bit more belief in his own ability.

Not overly impressed by today's performance, but will gladly take the points, cup game or not. Defence is a major worry, and will definately need strengthening. (Have we not learned from last year? )
We have stepped up a league now, and will be found wanting, against stronger teams, who, unlike Motherwell, will probably finish their chances.
I love MW, but at times today it was as if McCoist mk II was in charge of tactics. I like the passing game we've become accustomed to, but come on, let's have a shot at goal from time to time instead of trying to walk the ball into the net!?
And the short corners are not working either, we should vary them a bit, let's get the ball into the danger area direct from the corner quadrant from time to time, they are far too easy to defend taking them short all the time.
I trust MW, and think we'll come good this year, but get frustrated at times when we over play things!
Sorry Bears, rant over!
What's other people's thoughts on these matters?

17 Jul 2016 01:34:26
You mean shot on goal like the two crackers we scored today?

17 Jul 2016 07:19:05
It is still a worry with that defence. Keirnan was all over the place and his passing was awful. Tav caught too many times again, more so in the 1st 15/ 20 mins. However what i will say is that its only the 2nd game, this cup will be treated as pre season and there will be rotation and just trying to get the boys fit before the start of the league. I think come 6th August if the defence are still all over the camp then it will be a big worry. Niko though. different gravy.

17 Jul 2016 08:58:05
One pre season match played it's the middle of July I thought we did ok. The defence gets a lot of crap but we play so far up the park they will be exposed but as with the old firm game when we play better sides the rest of the team do cover the two centre backs did nothing wrong, yet people want to talk of frailties rather than positives. As for Mackay I think the wee guy is outstanding when people are knocking is performance at this stage of the season remember his age, remember before Warburton came in mccoist would have sold him the boy never got a chance as his football style was too far out the box from mccoists way of playing, playing with the likes of Barton and Kranjcar will accelerate his development, but there are so many voices that know better than the gaffer give murdoch a game because even though the gaffer will see him in training know him personally people who seen him in a couple of games read his name in the paper or on the Internet know better, I would love to see the boy make it but we don't know what it is, his attitude may be bad or he isn't as good as the guys who start, plus from what we seen of windass and Kranjcar yesterday murdoch will have a long way to go from the last time I seen him in a 1-1 midweek game at livi. Personally I can't wait until the next game.

17 Jul 2016 09:36:46
agree with sheppy1690, defenders did not operate as a cohesive unit and lucky not to get punished early doors but considering none of the new signings started the game we can only get better.

17 Jul 2016 09:59:01
We knew what to expect with Wilson and keirnan, but the full backs can't defend either, but the attack was really great 2nd half, NOH is also a star in the making
Tommy.

16 Jul 2016 23:02:02
Has anyone noticed that since Warburton has taken over most teams we play against look like they are blowing out their arse after 30 mins?

The fitness in the team is one of the biggest assets we have.

16 Jul 2016 22:41:52
Thought MOH looked the part today, hungry, fast, what a player that guy is going to be, 55 n countin.

16 Jul 2016 22:27:08
What was evident today is the terrific competition we've got in our wide attacking areas, we have mckay, forrester, o'halloran, windass etc, whoever does occupy the shirt fof the start of the league season will have to play very well most weeks as the wide attacking players who are sitting on the subs bench will be breathing down there necks, if they are all playing well I honestly don't know who you would have occupying the 2 attacking wide areas, it would give you a headache trying to choose, over to you mr warburton that's why you're the glasgow rangers manager, to my fellow bears, if there all playing to potential which 2 would you have in our wide right and wide left areas of the team?
