(Rangers fan here) I think auzzie players are hit or miss, we signed Matt Mackay, auz national team captain at the time, and he was tosh, but you look at ryan mcgowan at hearts (i dunno if he left recently) done well. Apprently when they come from the auz league they struggle with proper training!

Believable2 Unbelievable21

McKay? you think he got a proper chance? Aussie players struggle? Moore, Viduka and McDonald seemed to get on fine.

Agree22 Disagree2

What a load of crap mate! Matt McKay was a cracking player theonly thing he struggled with at rangers was the incompetent manager not playing him! He was outstanding in the reserves, but due to a much publicised falling out with mccoist he never got the chance!
Stella was an unknown quantity and the fact that he had come from an Italian team and not the a league proves your theory wrong! Lets face it the a league as dier it is is a far step up from scottish football leagues especially div 3!
Maybe Stella left because he realized that going to rangers was a huge mistake and no way to further his career! And the realization that mccoist would be the worst manager the boy has ever worked with! Just food for thought for ya!

Agree19 Disagree5

McKay was quoted saying there was no real training just bounce games.

Agree17 Disagree2

@3 yeah that doesn't surprise me! Probably the limit of ally's coaching techniques! For somebody to come out and say A league training is sub standard to Scottish football! Understanding how serious Australians take their sport the institute of sport in australia are world leaders in training and producing high quality sporting teams and individuals and has been the role model for our own sporting academies!
And before all the negative comments come back let me remind you that Australia in football terms have done something that we have never done, and qualify for the second phase in a World Cup! And qualifying in a group containing Brazil, Croatia and Japan and only to be cheated out of a quarter final by a diving Italian!! And all that having to come through qualifying play offs against Uruguay!!
They have come a long way considering it would be Australia's 4 ranked football code and probably 6 or 7th ranked team sport!!
So before you start slagging Australian football maybe take a long hard look at our under achieving football set up!

McKay was in the form of his life when he signed. In his first start he dominated the right side, including whipping a cross in on a dime for an assist (header by McCulloch I think). It was a shame to see him wasted on the bench. A waste.

Melb bhoy

Agree5 Disagree1

Hey Melb I agree, but he wasn't even in the squad that much, never mind the bench, whattamisso.

If workers can go anywhere in the world to work, then why should football players be treated any different from UEFA/FIFA etc..? I'm not saying we should move sticks and head south, or anywhere else, we're a proud Scottish club and here we'll stay, but why are footballers denied potential moves to other clubs due to certain restrictions enhibiting them from the chance of furthering their careers due to their age, ie under 21's need to be capped at international level a certain number of times to be even concidered for a cross continental transfer, we don't have fair prospects in Scotland, the horizons need to open up with FIFA/UEFA for fair workers rights with respct to where you choose to work.

Kelpie {The Ed039's Note - Kelpie, Workers cant just go anywhere else in the world and work. ie if you moved to Australia as a British citizen then there is certain criteria you would need to fufill before being granted a visa to move and work there and its the same vice versa, there are no restrictions on members of the EU moving between member countries to work and live, but outside the EU then there are most certainly restrictions on "ordinary workers" moving, its not UEFA and FIFA who put the work permit restrictions on non EU players in the UK, that is the home office who make these rules, and make decisions on everybody, not just footballers)

Believable3 Unbelievable16

Kelpie . Football has it own rules ( Bosman) for instance. Its complcated . FIFA/UEFA do not like the civil courts getting involved in football. The initial 3 forigners rule in the 80s that included EU players. Just lets leave it and not to get bogged down in it mate.

Agree3 Disagree2

Most countries around the world require a university degree as a minimum, regulated by Goverment, for a residence permit and work visa.

Agree4 Disagree2

Not the uk, I was able to join the armed forces as a commonwealth citizen! But it is very difficult to get into oz! And rightly so! But I am sure you will all feel very much at home in Perth WA as the amount of lowlife English there is a disgrace! {The Ed039's Note - Well as a member of the commonwealth armed forces one might have thought that you would know the difference between coming from Scotland and England)

Agree1 Disagree1

I filled my paperwork out and moved to Australia around 9 years ago Ed. Funny you mentioned that. Thanks for your replys.

Kelpie.

p.s. We might not be the best at the moment, but we still need to get behind the players & the team, the good times outweigh the bad, and will again soon enough, i'm keeping patient and possitive.

Agree2 Disagree4

@#1. Wasn't the Bosman case held up in a civil court, thus causing the transfer of free players to be placed in those players hands?

Agree1 Disagree0

@#2. You don't need a uni degree as a minimum to obtain residence or a work visa for most countries, as you posted. My point is if players can meet a standard to which I had to, to get into Australia, why is it harder for sports people to go elsewhere, if they want to and are wanted. Then only to be stopped by some age old seemingly timeless rules, I just don't think that sport as payed work should be any different to any other trade/job.

Just a point about ex players that ally has access to . Over here in Australia Ian ferguson and Stewart Munro are in charge of perth glory . Craig Moore is on tv talking football .
There is a huge pool of affordable talent over here, much much better than some of the players currently at ibrox.
I'm sure he also has john Spencer's and mo johnstones number in the USA
Murray park should be full of young men from all over the world trying out for a place .
My mate from perth went to watch rangers youths play and couldn't believe how poor they were, worrying !!
World is a small place now . {The Ed039's Note - There is plenty of affordable talent in these countries without a doubt, one small problem is if they dont have some sort of dual EU citizenship is getting international clearance for them)

Believable5 Unbelievable8

Footballers need to be capped by their country to be of the correct skill level to take a uk players job.
Youth players are not skillful/ experienced enough to merit residence permits and work visas.

Agree1 Disagree1

Ed, chances are these Perth players more than likely have British parents, with the amount of expats over there (especially in Perth) is unbelievable! so they will be able to get UK passports! Maybe rangers should be exploring these avenues and exploiting this market! {The Ed039's Note - Perhaps some of them do, but I doubt loads of them do, if it was guaranteed that "X" amount of the talent had dual nationality then it might be worth sending someone in, but its not that way so it may be a very expensive exercise for very little, although I do agree the scouting network needs torn apart and started again)

Agree1 Disagree1

Most of the guys playing over here are from European parents, lots of British, Italian and Macedonian kids playing here .
Burley have an academy here and boys regularly go over to teams linked with Harry rednapp .
Celtic have had a few from perth also .
Also heard at matt McKay found the training at ibrox way below what he was used to !

Agree2 Disagree0

I would say at least 75% of the guys here have got or could get a passport for Europe either through being born in the uk or through their parents .
You don't need to send anyone over either, just lift the phone .
Check out just how many ozzies are playing in the uk, your be surprised !!

Agree0 Disagree3

Players like employees can go work in other countries if they go throu the paper work but companies or businesses like rangers can't just set up and start trading in other countries that's a completely different ball game

Agree1 Disagree0

@2 ED (op @2 here) having lived in perth for a very large portion of my life I can assure you that the VAST majority of these guys playing football here would come from either British, Italian or of a Balkan's background! Their parents come here not wanting to integrate into Australian life and insist on their children playing "British" sports and not the Australian sports! So I would consider that I do know what I am talking about thank you!
There is a huge potential in Perth for youngsters with ability to get (if not already have one) British or EU passports! So I say to the powers that be to take burnley's lead and do some looking into this market!!

Agree1 Disagree1

Did Moore not warn the young Aussie goalie not to touch you's with a bargepole ?
Tam

Agree2 Disagree0

This is all a pipe dream.
Rangers needs Scottish lads that can play div3&2 fitbaw in cauld icy winters not home and away beach boys with squeaky Aussie accents.
