I have a question, what exactly is walter doing behind the scenes? And is he on a wage? If yeah then surely this is a waste of money. Same as traynor and others. are these people really required? Would we not better putting the money towards players like a alexander and new players in sept. i'm jusy a bit worried we are talking about wage cuts again! {The Ed039's Note - he shouldn't be on a wage as non executive director)

Believable14 Unbelievable10

We were told he and the other non exec were on £50k plus expenses each.

I agree, just tell the plain honest truth and dump Jabba and green.
People criticizing these two are not attacking Rangers. They are criticising those two as individuals.

No big mouths talking nonsense and nobody to criticize. Look at Celtic, nobody over there talking Shyte like these two, just factual honest football stuff. That's what is needed.

Agree26 Disagree13

He shouldn't is different from HE IS!
You and your fellow Rangers's need to get your head out the sand!
It was even in the "prospectus"

Agree11 Disagree4

Well said that bear. You have three execs on 750k plus expenses and your basically shafting a guy who stood buy you. Very poor. I'm sure the average fan can't be happy with that. As op says make the cuts elsewhere, what do they all do?and I'm not talking about normal working folk- canteen, cleaners etc they earn their money

Agree9 Disagree2

Not really sure of the great Walter's role at Ibrox but I for one am quite happy in the knowledge that we have Scotland's finest gentleman and greatest football brain involved in some capacity with Scotland's most famous & successful football team.

DULCIUS EX ASPERIS

Ozzie Al

Agree10 Disagree23

@1 am not really that interested in talking about Celtic as is the case with many others. but I think you will find there is a fair bit of pish being sprouted bribed refs, conspiracies (again). Poor Celtic, always cheated, never defeated. No wonder your support is dwindling world wide.

Agree14 Disagree23

@4 What do you base the statement Scotlands finest gentleman and greatest football brain on?

Agree12 Disagree7

@5 pot and kettle, Ally still convinced everybody else done the dirty and he's having to work with a restricted squad, you's have millions in the bank? but also a poor tactically aware manager, can@t wait till Chuckie let's him loose with the cheque book that'll be more car crash material!

Agree13 Disagree4

@6 His record through the juniors, his coaching with Dundee united (European breakthrough) his successful management spells with rangers and scotland, direct quotes from Sir Alex, several quotes from both Celtic &Rangers players who have been coached or managed by him, quotes by international managers praising his football brain and the common sense he showed in choosing to follow Rangers instead of Celtic to name but a few. He has always showed class, dignity and humility in defeat (unlike some I could mention) as well as providing a good role model for others. That makes him a true gentleman in anyone's eyes ( unless they are blinkered and twisted through hatred and envy with a tinge of green. Hope this answers your question.

Ozzie Al

Agree8 Disagree10

@5) I was with you until the "support dwindling worldwide" patter.

Agree5 Disagree3

Ozzie Al; Dundee Utd he was a coach not the manager. Succesfull management spells? Rangers thru the EBT years with the money spent? Not to difficult to win the Scottish league given the talent he had at his disposal. Scotland? No better than okay I would say. Class and dignity? Have you seen the you tube clip with Chick Young? A good manager no doubt but the "greatest football brain" I don't think so mate.

Agree11 Disagree5

Ozzie Al, what about his first spell at Rangers sitting in the dugout in Copenhagen (I think) while his team were getting beaten and flicking stones because he knew he had no idea how to turn things around.
Al

Agree5 Disagree3

@6 Sorry Ozzie but he is not even rangers greatest manager and not in the top ten of Scotland's. His claim for fame in football is creating anti football.

Agree6 Disagree2

Walter is the greatest manager scottish football has ever seen

Agree1 Disagree11

At least he could lose a game with dignity

Agree1 Disagree8

Walter smith was and still is best spl maneger ever end of

Agree2 Disagree5

@10 the post clearly states coaching at united. His first spell was glorious and ebts weren't about so your argument is null and void. O Neil and advocaat so spent excessive sums of money to win titles. It's what big clubs do. On your comments it makes mourinho and fergie average too then?

Agree0 Disagree1

@10 Was just about to answer this but post @16 beat me to it. read before you comment! my post clearly stated his role as a "coach" and if you had ever had the opportunity of speaking to Jim McLean or reading his biography you would see his admiration for the legend that is Walter Smith. Getting a victory for a small country like Scotland over the reigning world champions was a small feat? Chick Young was a goose who stuck his neck out to far and got it pulled back in very quickly.

Ozzie Al

Agree0 Disagree3

@11 He was rightly annoyed by the performance, but did he kick bottles all over the touchline? Did he run onto the pitch to harass the referee? Was he sent to the stands in a "friendly" game? Did he cause a referee strike over his comments? Did he try to attack other managers after a defeat? Did he try to blame everyone else bar the dressing room cat for his defeats? Did he spend his valuable time taking videos and preparing dossiers for football authorities every time his team got beat? No he gave praise to the opposition, recognised his errors and continued on with his head held high like a true leader does.

"DULCIUS EX ASPERIS"

Ozzie Al

Agree1 Disagree2

@12 Would agree with your starting comment, he may not be Rangers greatest ever Manager. There have been some excellent Managers over the years, Bill Struth, Scott Symon, Grahame Souness etc. So he does have a bit of competition. Without researching it further and carrying out an internal management performance appraisal and doing analyses to determine effects of variables such as budgets, player fitness, recovery times, size of squad, no of games, European involvement etc I cannot say for certain that he was the best, but he is certainly in the mix. Your second point does not merit a sensible response.

Ozzie Al

Agree0 Disagree0

@18, If he is as good as you think why not try to convince us by telling us what he does to merit your praise, not by saying what he doesn't do.
What Walter does do is "walking away". Twice from Rangers and once from Scotland.
Al

Agree4 Disagree0

Post 10 - what ebts?

Agree1 Disagree2

@18 I've seen Smith kicking water bottles all over the place and he has been sent to the stands on plenty of occasions. And don't you remember him having a go at Mixu a couple of seasons ago its the nearest to a fight I've seen at a football match since they banned the booze. As for the greatest manager just look at his champ league record I think you will find it's shocking.

Agree3 Disagree0

@21, so EBTs didn't exist at Ibrox? All that has been decided at the moment (although it may change after the result of the appeal) is that in the majority of cases the EBTs were not in breach of regulations, not that they weren't used.
Please get your facts right.
There is a call from a government agency today asking for those benefiting from tax avoidance schemes to be named and shamed.
I demand to know the names of the Rangers players who benefited from an EBT.
Oh, sorry about that. I had an Ally moment.

Look Rangers are one year on from the worst day of my life. We should be happy will win the league some of the cups were above our remit though we should have done better in other. Ally is building his team to take us through the divisions it's not been easy for him though some of the senior players have been poor ( we don't even need some of them ). Let's not get carried away it's a long way to go but we will get there. Some of the fans, Mcmurdo jnr, and Green saying we are the biggest team in Scotland who are they trying to con we may have the biggest fan base just maybe, we never had over 100. 000 watching us within a week like our big rivals from the other side since years they have so hold on that one. All I'm saying we're on the way back hopefully to where we should be but don't let our expectations outdo our capabilities. Some fans wanted us where we are (certainly not me ) but let's get Back with pride and respectability. Still a what to go.
Bobby

Believable27 Unbelievable20

Bobby, Green needs to sit down with you and other proper fans who will ask real questions. Excellent and honest post.

Agree25 Disagree9

Don't think Green will be be calling you any time soon Bobby. he needs people who are good with figures and also good memories. I think you will find there was more than 100. 000 watching the cup final in Manchester never mind on television.

Ozzie Al

Agree2 Disagree5

Ozzie Al - I think he was referring to the fact that the other mob had over 100,000 in the space of a few days because they were (note the past tense) in the champions league, That for now makes them bigger, not in terms of fan support or history but the fact they are rubbing shoulders with the big guns of european football. That will return to us if we bide our time but we are a few years away at the moment. We will be back and stronger than ever but at the moment the football power lies with the other mob.

Agree2 Disagree2

Ozzie Al; You are wrong. Mr Green needs people like you who seem to swallow whatever he says. Other than the IPO, which still needs questions answered, what has he delivered? I assume you will have an answer or are you prepared to believe anything this guy says? So many stories yet none actually happened yet.

Agree7 Disagree1

After the juve game the attendance at united game was only 30000

Agree1 Disagree1

@3 thank you for interpreting that for me. very enlightened and sensible response.
@4 So far he has saved my old club from the damage inflicted upon it by some internal stakeholders and delivered on the first stage of the 5 year plan by winning the Third division (almost). Secondly he has defended the Club from fools like yourself who ultimately were the cause of further destruction through there gullibility to believe the writings of a madman on the web who had rangers guilty on the big tax case even before it came to court, and subsequently were made to look very foolish when Rangers were found not guilty. So if it came to a choice who to believe. You and your ilk or Charles Green, my response is the latter. Thank you very much. Upwards and onwards.

@5: actually 46, 496 so you're only a wee bit out.

Agree2 Disagree0

@6: how is anything #4 wrote foolish? You seem to assume he follows another team but how do you know? Indded, your post makes you seem foolish.

Agree2 Disagree0

@8 He obviously believes what he reads in the newspapers and gossip from other sources such as dodgy websites anyone that daft can only be a supporter of one team in Scotland and its not Rangers.

Reckon we should try and resign some ex gers this september. Players I think would come back are Kris Boyd, Kenny Miller, Kevin Thomson, Barry Ferguson and would like to see us try and sign Shinnie.

Believable7 Unbelievable39

Does that not dilute the point of rebuilding a younger squad? No one over the age of 25 should be bought.

Agree20 Disagree5

Yeah all the old EBT favourites who sunk the club. Why not start bringing back the good old board too?
Give all of them more rangers money. These guys have pensions to think about.

Agree15 Disagree10

We need a right back 2 centre halfs a midfielder and kris boyd

Bull. Alexander did not walk away. Now Ally and Green walk away from him. Insulting him by cutting his wages by 50%, how would you like that? I thought Green said Rangers had more money at their disposal than Celtic? More Bull from Green, he knows he can't make him and his Far East buddies their profit with these wages being paid so resorts to blackmail. Green, very loyal, NOT.

Believable28 Unbelievable19

Op. rangers are a third division team and paying 10 grand every week for one player is far too much! rangers need to cut costs til were bringing in more money. cammy bell is younger and in my opinion a better goaly! the fact is we are running a business not a charity sadly players have to come and go. mark.

Agree24 Disagree13

OP - he really is not that good a keeper

JG

Agree13 Disagree13

1) Green wants to rip up Alexanders contract now. He wants him to take a years extension on half wages but will only offer him that if he halfs his money now. Basically ripping up a contract half way through the season. Nice bloke, Charles Green, would you like him as your boss? basically wiping his backside with your contract of employment?

Agree17 Disagree8

Do any of you truely believe "the rangers" have more money than Celtic?
It is incredibily insulting for Alexander, who has transferred to the NewCo and stayed "loyal". This man may not be your first choice when/if Bell comes in, but he certainly deserves a bit more respect than to be told to take a paycut for the second time in as many years. Green is a joke and all those that listen to his lies, should take a step back and think of what he has done for NewCo

Agree14 Disagree6

@3. alexander just has to say no! then play out the remainder of his contract. think your not getting this we can't afford ten grand a week on just one player. mark.

Agree16 Disagree5

@1 Yep Charlie showing his true colour's, Alexander stick's by Rangers doe's not jump ship, forfeit's half his wage's maybe more? to try and save old Rangers and this is the way he is treated. Then you wonder why the rest jumped ship.
Tam

Agree15 Disagree11

Tam I agree! but what do you want to hurt alexanders feelings or rangers income and stability! we need to cut costs til we move up the divisions and the likes of alexander, goian, and bocanegra wages are far too much for us sorry but that's a fact. mark.

Agree15 Disagree7

@4. are you for real! there would be no newco if it wasnt for green get real! i'm not greens biggest fan but at least he stepped up when we needed him! start thinking of rangers as a club in the third we can't live with celtic, dundee united and the likes til we move up the leagues. we have to learn to spend wisely from now on. mark.

Agree14 Disagree6

Poster 5. Why can Rangers not afford 10k a week? Yes, for a normal 3rd leagues team these wages would be crazy. Green has told us we are wealthy, 13th highest attendances in Europe. Well, where is the share money, where is the season ticket money, and best of all, where is the capital from the so called investors? Why was he so desperate for players on high wages to TUPE over? that's right to sell them and line his pockets.

Agree12 Disagree6

LOL well Alexander is the man who stops the goals going in, so him aswell as every other player is just as important as the next, he's properly thinking, black templeton etc are all on at least 5k a week it's even rumoured the rangers are even playing upto 10k for a couple of players! So why offer him less than them? If cammy bell HAS signed then I can see where green is coming from but if he says to bell says no then they are chasing out there one & only good GK?

Stop worrying about attendance rates & more so stop involving celtic in all of his statements and worry about keeping a good start 11! And that starts with a number 1 between the sticks

From a outsiders point of view looking in what has green done since the take over? Bill miller/Charles green/blue knights were all going to either save rangers or form a new rangers either way a club called rangers were always going to be playing in a Scottish division one way or another, so what's he done? Raised '22million' in a share issue? Signed 2 young stars?

Bearing in mind this guy has at least 5m odds from the rangers fans from the shares? But him & his 2 right hand men are on 720k a year plus around half a million EACH for every time the team moves up a division As a bonus! And all non directors inc smith are on 50k + bonuses a year.

Lenny

Agree12 Disagree6

@9. and you answered that yourself we don't need to spend it but just because we can then you think we should! guess you don't run a company then? bell is younger, better and cheaper. mark.

Agree6 Disagree2

It's ok saying Alexander done us a favour by staying which in a way he did. however what do you think his value would have been after the whole wage cut-transfer fee reduction was agreed? 250k? (pure guess). And if he walked away do you think he would have got 10k a week and first team football somewhere else? Yes he showed loyalty to us but did rangers not show equal loyalty to him? Just a thought. By the way I wouldn't mind him staying, bell or not.

Right enough is enough, Green needs to be challenged now. Get everything out in the open. who owns what?who gets paid what and what debt are we actualy in etc. This whole thing is starting to look like a "Groundhog Day" situation like Whytes time in charge.
If we can't honour wages and contracts then say so,, don't blame others don't hide behind "rubbish" just be bloody honest.
This really should be concerning every Rangers fan, how can Green one minute be talking about giving Ally the millions to buy players, when he can't afford the ones there. All week Ally has been
going on about how hard it would be to attract players blaming the divisions etc we would be playing in,, this seems to be a bloody smokescreen for Green and co, to not be truthfull about the lack of finances to actually pay players wishing to come? could be wrong? but no evidence forth coming to say different.
Are we all really this blind, to the owners who constantly treat us like morons. come on challenge now before its?to late again : (

Agree13 Disagree2

Alexander has to drop the cost of two non execs annual salaries, over the next 5 months.
Why not drop the two non exec directors?
Alexander has a legal contract and saves goals.

Agree10 Disagree1

@ 13. Who says we can't afford current wages? Maybe they just want to get a younger squad for better value. Also none of us actually know the ins and outs of it. It's all paper spin. Nothing confirmed.

Agree2 Disagree6

@14. Yes he does have a legal contract. And he is within his rights to sit it out and leave in the summer. Rangers also have the right to offer him a new contract to start now or in the summer for whatever sum they wish. He does not have to agree to it. Also there is such a word as negotiation. Start low or high depending which side of the table you are sat. Then haggle. It's called contract negotiations.

Agree4 Disagree4

Is there still supposed to be a 10million warchest for Ally?

If so Mr Green use some of it to do the right thing with N. A.

If not, please stop saying whatever you think fans want to hear on a whim. This is starting to really worry me, i. e he volunteered to pay another club for 3000 season tickets if they would vote for us to stay in SPL ---- well, Mr Green, I don't put money into Rangers for you to go and basically bribe another club and give them free money.

Agree7 Disagree3

Alexander has made more mistakes in 2 seasons than andy goram has made in his whole carrer

Agree8 Disagree6

18. Have a look at the back 4 that played in Goram's day then look at what we have these days.

Not saying Alexander is near Goram as a keeper but he also doesn't have anything like the same protection.

Oh and he has played in more European final than Andy.

Agree4 Disagree3

I don't have the figures but I have seen all the rumours about management salaries. Ally, like Alexander, too the cut requested to help save the club. Has CG gone back to Ally first? I don't see where CG is setting the example by offering to half his salary. Why did CG hire Traynor, who really will not contribute anything on the park, and then go to the players who stayed loyal and expect them to bear the brunt. While I agree about paying too high salaries for the 3rd Div it begs the question why the expenditure on additional admin people when it's players the club needs right now. A cynic might start to question just how healthy the club's finances really are. Why are there no straight answers (mind you it does not seem that anyone is being allowed to ask the pertinant questions first)?
