We are linked with trying to bring in Dowell, Solanke and Davis in Jan and Jones in or on a pre contract. If we do manage to secure these players do you think we can sustain a title challenge? Who do you think are better options within our budget constraints?

17 Dec 2018 18:28:24
I would be delighted if we managed to get these players.
I think we can make a challenge this season - I would like to add Cooper from Millwall as well
If we had been more consistent we could be a good few points ahead already
My only worry is that the tims will spend a lot in January
My hope is that they spend big and make an arse of it
Rodgers does like to sign the odd flop.

{Ed001's Note - Cooper has just signed a new contract with Millwall.}

17 Dec 2018 19:09:39
Ed, when did Cooper sign new contract?

{Ed001's Note - and you lot on here told me the Review of the Day I do each day has no relevance to Rangers! I mentioned it in one of them last week, as he just (which is why the word was in there) signed it.}

17 Dec 2018 19:49:58
Good catch Ed. Interesting that length of new contract has not been revealed. Previous contract had 18 months to run. Looks like Millwall may have upped his wages to increase his transfer value. Seen the boy play a couple of times this season, very good player.

{Ed001's Note - they are expecting English Prem interest mate. I am not so sure the lad will be all that interested in Scottish football if that is the case. I have never seen him play myself to be honest, but they genuinely believe he is set for the Prem. I assume, like yourself, that the contract is simply about safeguarding their fee.}

17 Dec 2018 19:57:27
The additions of Dowell, solanke and Davis would improve our chances of winning the league greatly in my opinion. Do think we need another centre half of quality and cover for fullbacks because you can't count on Flanagan because he’s utter mice unfortunately.

17 Dec 2018 20:02:01
Think I saw on sky sports news last week his new contact runs till 2022.

17 Dec 2018 20:55:13
Jgg harsh! boys constantly played out of position.

18 Dec 2018 07:13:51
Thanks Ed didn’t know about Cooper contract.
The Flanagan at LB is a strange one it just seems to about fitting him in at times.
There’s no doubt he’s a good player but not at LB
I kind of wish we had kept Declan John for cove there as it looks like Wallace was not be considered.

Despite some of these things we are a far better team in my opinion
The Tims are falling away and we need to be taking advantage of it.

Will be interesting to see how our academy players do over the next 2-3 years as we seem to be on there up with youth development.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome, I thought I would mention it now to try and head off the calls for his signature. It seems unlikely now that there is any chance of it happening. He is a regular in the Championship with prospects of a move to the English Prem, where even a bottom half team can reward him with money Rangers can't hope to match and would be crazy to do so.

As for Flanagan, he had bad injuries and turned to drink, like so many footballers do during long injury spells. He lacked a bit of pace anyway, but he seems to have lost a step and he does not seem as mentally fit as he was. Personally I think the lad needs to speak to someone about his mental state, as, in the little I have seen of him, he looks like a shadow of the player he was.}

18 Dec 2018 11:50:53
@ed001. To be fair to Flanagan I think playing him in a position he's not comfortable playing in is not helping.

{Ed001's Note - he has played left back more often than right back in Liverpool's first team.}

18 Dec 2018 12:23:53
Didn’t know about the drink etc
In my opinion every club should be employing someone to deal with psychology etc

I’ve coached at international level in a different sport and sports psychology plays a massive part in my opinion.

I know we use a sports psychologist at the academy but not sure what involvement they play at senior level.

You can see the benefit it could play with a few of our players.

{Ed001's Note - agreed.}

18 Dec 2018 18:00:21
Ah, I never realised that. I thought he'd be a bigger performer than what I've seen so far.

{Ed001's Note - yeah but he has had a lot of bad injuries in his short career. I think it is 3 full years (off the top of my head) that he has lost to major injuries. That is a lot for any player to cope with.}

17 Dec 2018 14:01:59
What’s everyone’s thoughts on Wednesdays team. Hibs will go for us which I think suits us due to our lack of creative players in the final third. With Kent still being out I’d go:

McGregor
Tavernier / McAuley / Goldson / Barasic
Jack
Rossiter / Arfield
Candeias / Morelos / Grezda.

17 Dec 2018 14:25:44
I’d be taking McAuley out and replacing him with Katic, Hibs movement up top is decent and he’s more mobile. Jack and Arfield are stick ons but not sure if he will go with Rossiter, wouldn’t surprise me if he put Halliday in there.

17 Dec 2018 15:16:27
Mccrorie should start, least puts in challenges and tackles and sits in when Tav disappears.

17 Dec 2018 15:28:40
I don't understand why lots of people rave about Rossiter, yes I accept he is a good player but until he strings a good number of games together I don't think we can expect him to come in and control the game against a hibs side that will be trying to win at all costs. He is in one game out the next he has to start being present more often than not. However I feel it's an attacking midfielder that's more important we have Jack and McCrorie who can sit and dig in it's going the other way we have the problem.

17 Dec 2018 16:19:20
Keep same team. Would rather katic in there but seems he's out if favour. Only change would be lafferty out obviously. Morelos back in.

17 Dec 2018 17:29:57
Probably have McCrorie or Couilibaly in place of Rossiter.
We need a settled partnership at centre back so would probably go with McAuley ( EPL experience) . Katic is probably a bit more mobile but he has not featured recently?
We currently lack an attacking midfielder so our options are limited.

17 Dec 2018 17:35:56
It's a shame Katic has fell out of favour always felt he was a threat for us at corners.

17 Dec 2018 17:37:05
Rossiter destroyed hibs last outing.

17 Dec 2018 18:30:27
Rossiter and Katic played for reserves today, unlikely to start or be involved against hibs. Dallas scored again.

17 Dec 2018 19:11:14
Jboy21, did they both play 90 minutes for the reserves?

17 Dec 2018 20:32:09
Bankie both played 60 minutes.

17 Dec 2018 20:34:06
I’d like to see McRorie get a run of games. He’s done well when he’s played. He breaks up play well and looks to pass the ball forward quickly, something that Jack doesn’t do as well.

17 Dec 2018 21:33:05
Mols was the last game against hibs not the 5 each game? Can't really call that destroying them, even if he was involved in most of our goals in that game, he clearly like everyone else that day, wasn't preventing hibs from scoring. I am not saying he is a bad player, far from it but I don't think he has been involved enough consistently to go in against hibs, meaning another change of personnel. We really need to win this game, too much tinkering could cost us the points. In saying that we haven't exactly been setting the heather alight, so if he does play I hope he does help to destroy them.

17 Dec 2018 21:39:01
Thanks Jboy21, have feeling both will be in match day squad on Wednesday.

18 Dec 2018 11:41:36
Lennon will have all his players tuned in to goading morelos would be hard even for Lafferty but he has experience leave morelos on bench unless needed.

18 Dec 2018 12:11:41
6counties

Whilst I respect your opinion you can’t just leave our best player out in a big game like this. can I have some of what you’re smoking but it must be good you need to hook me up mate lol He would be my joint (lol) first name on the team sheet alongside Shagger, we don’t have the luxury of having another player who has his movement and his ability to hold up the ball either. the boy maybe has certain issues but he’s our top scorer and whilst he plays for us he is one of us and he has my backing 💯%.
🔵⚪️🔴.

18 Dec 2018 19:31:18
I said it before, when Morelos gets his first yellow get him off even if it's in the first 10 mins of the game.

17 Dec 2018 08:53:38
Imagine we did win the league in Stevie G first year as a Manager of our great club?
Surely the Tim's would bag Brenda with the budget he has and transfer kitty? It would be a massive embarrassment to them as Rodgers is meant to be the ultimate Manager and has a budget of £50 million pounds a year! 🇬🇧.

17 Dec 2018 09:21:51
If we won the league in SG's first year as a manager, then it would be the greatest achievement one could ask for!

I reckon Rodgers would leave and lash out at the Celtic Board for not backing him financially (apparently) - because he doesn't like taking blame for anything!

17 Dec 2018 11:32:30
Tbf gong by gerrards net spend quotes has brenda actually had any money to spend? Few guys i know can't believe how little he has been given.

17 Dec 2018 11:41:34
Our last 3 performances do not indicate we will win the league. Yes Celtic aren’t playing great either and they have 1 striker who appears to be struggling under the pressure, they will spend in Jan and our games in Dec are HUGE as we have to add as much pressure on them as we can and if we are still top by Jan then it’s a huge boost and incentive to all attached to the club.

17 Dec 2018 12:32:39
Would love to see us win the league in Steven Gs first season, not sure it will happen but what an achievement it would be. I honestly don't think brenda is top tier. I also think the mhanks board have either let him down or don't trust/ like his transfer acumen.
Would love to see the title back at G51. (Wee nod in your direction there Slim)

17 Dec 2018 13:20:55
We are still not good enough to look any further than the next game, that has to be the mentality. The players owe us the fans and the management team a performance on Wednesday and hopefully we can kick on. The last 3 results up until yesterday were awful and a real blow to any title challenge. Hopefully we can add some quality in January and have a real go but whoever comes in has to improve the starting 11 and hopefully we can find a settled first 11.

17 Dec 2018 14:11:02
Spot on Wee Bear.

17 Dec 2018 14:44:36
Rodgers thinks he’s the best manager in SPL, but give him the spending power of Kilmarnock or Dundee in the transfer market and see how well he does?

17 Dec 2018 14:57:41
Best manager in the league is Steve Clarke. If he and Rodgers swapped jobs Celtic would be 10 points clear by now and Killie would be bottom half. I wanted Clarke as Gers manager before we got Stevie G and whil I've been pleased with him, if for any reason he doesn't work out or leaves for a job down south I would be right back in for Clarke.

17 Dec 2018 15:13:03
I would accept that comment swagman.

17 Dec 2018 19:41:06
the reason Brenda hasn't been given more to spend is that his transfer history is appalling. at both celtic and liverpool

celtic - hayes, commper, kouassi, sincalir ( one season wonder at every club ) de vries, gamboa, Benyu and hendry. all dug meat

Liverpool - too many to list, bought 33 players costing total £296m - only 8-9 could be classed as success

would you give him any money?

17 Dec 2018 07:37:38
Can't help but notice the site is tim free apart from the cowardly disagrees. It just shows that they still like to lurk! 3 points yesterday is all we can ask for. Title winning teams grind out results. As i've said the mhanks will fold like a cheap suit if we can keep the pressure cranked up.

17 Dec 2018 09:57:37
we will be happy to get our usual chrisi presy of 5 goals from you.

17 Dec 2018 10:53:29
Tim 10 11, don't count your chickens yet, but if we don't improve performance I fear the worst for us.

17 Dec 2018 15:55:50
Just couldn't help yourself eh.
