Ejaria to me is a weak link and I hope he does not get game time on the basis of his loan deal. SG must put the interests of the Gers first.
Hopefully perhaps 3 further signings can be made, a centre back, a 25 goal striker and a central midfield general.
I believe we cannot depend on Rossiter or Dorrans on fitness grounds and our bench tonight was scarily weak
If we back SG we can win the league this season!

Very accomplished performance tonight
Jack solid again tonight Different player this year
McGregor was my MOTM excellent performance few matching saving saves then a big penalty save!
Candeias and Arfield put in a great shift Morelos again class and done quite well despite being goaded all night by many in the Maribor game
Maribor tried to play smart and you can see how experience they were throughout the game
Connor Goldson even reacted in a way I've never seen before and that's not in his nature
Its clear to see that the referee and you have to say that the referee.

Really good solid performance tonight. Full of fight and determination but without any standouts (other than a few routine saves! ) .
Last year we would have shipped a few goals but we are organised, disciplined and together as a team
Haven't even seen a negative comment about Halliday, Morelos or even Tav's defending (which was as tight as a duck ass) .
Just goes to show what is possible with a decent (if inexperienced) manager.

None I’m afraid. Haliday was not good tonight sorry just my opinion. It’s clear a few if us bears are happy with him. That’s cool, for me he should never be in a jersey unless he’s in the stands supporting us.
There were times he was fine, yeh. However at times he couldn’t pass, anticipate a pass, control the ball or understand where he should be.

Defence was awesome even Halliday ( that's hard for me to say I'm not his biggest fan ) !
Buffalo did what he does best and holds up play ( we need someone up there with him ) !
Ryan Jack yet again was insane in a low key way! He's got a new life under SG and I for one think he's a rock in that position!

I think Ryan jack was tremendous for us at start of last season as well. The sending offs and then injury turned a lot against him and others jumped on the bandwagon making him a scapegoat. Remember we got this guy for no fee . Brilliant bit of business.

What a real battling performance tonight, classic European composure away from home.
I think we all know we would have folded last year. The confidence starts with the goalkeeper. We certainly have one now that the defence can rely on.
Steve has got the spine fairly solid and had spread that out to midfield.

I think everybody knows Halliday is limited in his skills, but Gerrard seems to be getting more out of him, he's leaner and fitter and tonight it showed. Occasionally he was a wee bit ropey but overall, considering he was in a position not exactly natural to him, he had a fine game.

Well done Rangers. Credit where credit is due! Regardless of opposition you've faced (tougther ties were possible but not saying Croays or Maribor are mugs. Far from it)
I didn't expect to get this far (don't think most of uz did either lol) and now fully expect youz to reach group stage considering who you've beaten to what awaits in next round
Goldson looks a gem, as does Couilbally and McGregor may well be pick of the bunch such a calming influence having him back between the sticks (raging he's back)
To qualify after so many changes to the squad . So easily is impressive and like Rodgers for us Gerrards signings has brought the best out of players that were mince under previous management (Jack being prime example)
Celtic wise its been an awful week with AEK results, McGinn fiasco and Boyata nonsense but I expect us to strengthen (too late must be said) and think with a couple of positions mainly CB and RB we may be a different animal. Or at least I hope so
One thing for sure this is going to be a much more exciting season and and after this game on 2nd I think both supporters will have a good idea on where they stand.

Its been a while since I've been desperate to play Celtic. I do agree that 1st old firm will give both teams an idea of season ahead. My opinion is that you need 2 centre halfs, a right back and a creative midfielder. We need a centre half and 2 strikers. My celtic supporting mates are mainly concerned about your defence.

Great post tompo. Glad to see an honest Celtic supporter for once. Yes we are playing well atm and Celtic not so good. But it's still early days (for our squad in particular) and I still think Celtic will win the league. But as you say I think it will be an exciting season and I think we will run you close.
If we beat motherwell next weekend then we are guaranteed to be going into the old firm atleast 1 point ahead which I don't think any supporter either side of the divide expected at the start of the season. Credit to gerrard for sure. Rangers look a unit atm but as Celtic have shown this season it only takes one or two games for things to drastically change!
From a rangers fans point of view I think £9 Mil for edouard was probably a waste (dispite the fact he's a good player) and the Celtic board have closed the financial doors for rodgers for obvious reasons (remember Flo) anyway, good post tompo. Glad some of you are sitting up and taking notice.

Stuffy and boring game so far, exactly what we needed to do.
Last thing we wanted is attacking end to end football, it's not fun to watch but we're doing the job and 0-0 at half time is great so far.
Here's hoping we can sneak one ourselves but any result that gets us through is good enough for me, Maribor look considerably better than Ufa so if we can get past this we have a great chance of getting to the group stage.

In my opinion. remember that when you read on. Anyone thinking that board and s. g have done nothing but we'll in the transfer market. There is still time for a striker and CD for cover. Aberdeen have been astute, as have we just the filthy ones have been piss poor and I for one hopes it hits them hard, obviously not just acL competition but all competitions. Every team has to get better and not tread water or go backwards which we have been doing the past few years. Looked him up he's 6ft 4in and can play def mid, cm and cb could be a good addition to the team if like his other two Croatian nationals are anything to go by. With dorrans and rossiter out he could be the cover forboth positions in def and mid if needed you can't have to many hard working 🇭🇷 in your team

Was the last result for the unwashed a game changer for Scottish football and more importantly Rangers?
Where to begin? For a club the size of Celtic with a turnover of last season including player sales and CL money of £90 million but a huge wage bill of £50 million, this loss of a potential £30 million CL money could be critical to their business model.
They also have an ambitious Hotel Project that although has been given the green light, we are yet to see a spade in the ground. Planning permission was only granted if work was started within 18 months. We are 10 months into this timescale and I have a good source who has said they are struggling to attract an official partner and may shelve the project due to a lack of funds.
Where the loss of the CL money will affect them and benefit us is player recruitment. Brenda has a horrendous record for signing players backed up with the stat that only 2 off his signings from the last 2 years started last nights game. They are in no man's land - can they attract the quality to improve the team directly or are they looking like it will be squad players and projects that will be recruited.
As for us we know where we stand.
Gerrard came in right away and sorted out the defense where the supposedly vastly more experienced Brenda has had 2 odd years to sort a defence that every Celtic fan has continually moaned about. Factor in The Lego muncher being another year older and his ability to influence games has waned.
Add in the disharmony in the squad with Boyata refusing to play, Brenda publically slating his defence compared to a real togetherness not seen at Ibrox since Walter took us all the way to the UEFA Cup Final.
Now the fans - by there absence on here we can all assume that banter is a one way street for Bhampot, Gazo, Rayman etc. How are they going to cope with the impending meltdown, Timplosion and subsequent banter years in reverse. When you hate your biggest rivals more than you love your own club? Then you take your eye of the ball.
Let's enjoy the ride with Gerrard. Where it takes us nobody knows. But you can be rest assured the greatest, most loyal fans in the world will still be here cheering on the Famous Glasgow Rangers.

Very hard to disagree with anything you have said UJ.
I did not know about the 18 months, planning permission clause and i find that staggering. I have worked in construction projects previously and usually all the contracts (builders, plumbers, engineering etc) are signed off pending planning permission! As soon as it’s granted work can begin!
If (and I emphasise IF) this is not the case and they have no such contracts in place they WILLL struggle to find company’s that will accept such a big, long term project with less than 8 months notice.
If your source is correct regarding the 18 months clause and we are already 10 months in. then I can almost guarantee you the hotel project will not go ahead.
I could be wrong and Celtic could have all this up there sleeve, it would be a first in my experience though!

Who here can name the scorers in our run in the inaugural champions league campaign in 1992?
These scorers included greats like McCoist and Hateley however also included Scott Nisbet and Gary McSwegan! I'm sure if these guys were in our team these days you would all be saying they are not Rangers Class.
We cannot have a squad full of top quality players, affording them and keep them all happy so sometimes you need someone who is happy to be here and play when required but is not going to be first team.
Fast forward to now. Andy Halliday is not a great player but will come on when required and give all he has. He is never going to dislodge Coulibaly, Arfield or Barisic but he knows this. I'd rather play Docherty but we would ruin Docherty if he stays just making bit part appearances. So we use Halliday instead.
The same goes for bringing in Lafferty. Do I think Lafferty will rock the world? No! Would I rather we spent the cash on the Bosnians? Yes. But what we are looking for here is a back up, possibly even 3rd choice. How many players do you think would sign up to play in Scotland as 2/ 3rd choice? Lafferty will do a job. We should look at the Bosnians coming in when we cash in on Morelos!

Not in a financial situation to knock back money we just spend 3M on a player who wasn’t a first team regular and just back from heart surgery in Goldson (yes turns out he’s been amazing so far) but in my opinion that was risky. why on earth would we then go sell our main striker who banged in the goals last season 18 in his first season btw and is now finding his form again scoring in Europe for 3.5M (they can get right to **** and so can the board if they think of accepting a bid like that) plus we are struggling in that area the last thing should be doing is selling a striker specially when we are short of them! I’d understand if the bid was anywhere between £10-£20M but 3.5M come on! We need to stop letting clubs take the piss!

With Windass sold our only attacking mid is Ejaria Dorrans out for foreseeable future I think we could have used Jason Holt love the wee man's engine and fight he hit the target a few times for us last season not scoring them all but he's a creative mid that does the dirty work as well hope he comes back a better player.

NO CHANCE! He's scoring in Europe as well as the league. It's clear he's getting better. So 7 doesn't cut it! 15 - 20m does. If we are to replace him we would need 10+. Why? Because the team selling would know our situation and price accordingly.
