I think what the new board and warbs and davie w have done in such a short space of time has been outstanding and next season is shaping up to be a cracker. U just have to look at the players we arerbeing linked with to show that we are coming back stronger than ever and warbs and his team have to take massive credit for that.

I think that he is def destined for bigger things and I'm afraid it's not a case of if but more when a big team comes calling for him so I'd love to see us tie him down on a long term deal so at least if or when he does go then we will get compensation.

I think we will have another 2 seasons max. I think securing him long term would be best bit of business we could do. What's everyone's thoughts?

15 May 2016 23:18:19
Si as much as i agree with you mate, i think if we were too get europa football this season and qualify again next season it would need to be a big club that showed interest i, n mw, ie a club that ccould garentee him euro football nyear in year out, and there's not many clubs that can garentee him that, were as wee can more or less get euro football every season, its how the board back him in the futuure that will more or less say how long he will be at our place.

16 May 2016 11:14:46
have to disagree with you there bigjoh85. I don't think European football would sway him away form England. he likes a challenge and likes to build a squad I think any top 10 team in the epl with a descent budget would get him. I think if we win the league next season a to 6 team will want him can't see him being here anymore than one more season but I do hope i'm wrong!

15 May 2016 19:12:44
aberdeen still interested in bell get him on to a city link bus and get him up there.

15 May 2016 20:42:53
Any update on Joey Barton? It's all went quite quiet!

15 May 2016 22:22:28
Possible he could sign tomorrow.

16 May 2016 11:17:02
sure he told rangers he will let him know within a week so if he is offered another two year contract he will stay put but I hope that he does come what a signing that wooul be.

14 May 2016 23:51:51
Hope I'm wrong but feel Barton could be playing games get himself a better deal at burnley. Hope I'm proved wrong and he goes on to lead us to 55 next year.

15 May 2016 18:33:28
Joey Barton golfing with Kenny Miller at loch Lomond today. Hope he signs!

15 May 2016 19:18:31
I think its a good bit of business getting him together with Kenny, he will be working on Joey, and as we know Kenny has been a model pro, apart from his little stint at the Tattiedome. As an older player i think Warburton and Weir hope he can give Joey the inside track on the size and class of our club. It looks like its a done deal, just waiting for the official announcement i think.

15 May 2016 20:23:59
Miller has been a great ambassador for us this season and always puts a good shift in.

Hopefully he sits down with all potential signings as it will give them an idea of how to act and what is expected.

15 May 2016 20:16:20
It has gone a bit quiet on the possibility of us signing joey barton, it does make you think that something is not quite right in the negotiations between rangers and barton although I hope not, maybe down to other clubs wanting to speak to him or simply down to wages, time will tell.

15 May 2016 22:17:39
Apparently a 3 year deal has been agreed, just not signed.

15 May 2016 17:02:32
I know we've signed plenty midfielders but you think a return for Arteta would be on the cards? We would get him for free. wages might be an issue. Interested to hear people thoughts?

15 May 2016 17:44:20
Arteta is rumoured to be part of peps back room team for city next year.

15 May 2016 18:37:47
Delboy, I read it was as a youth coach for city.

15 May 2016 20:16:34
Artera can make like the rain and go back to Spain. Homesick and the cold British climate was his reason for leaving, but when Everton offer the £££s, it's all of a sudden not a problem.

15 May 2016 20:59:09
Albertz but but but he has got used to the weather now lol lol only kidin mate i fully agree with your post.

15 May 2016 16:38:10
i think the Board and management are showing good ambition with the players we are after/ have signed. I think any lingering doubts about their intentions should be gone when everyone see's the starting 11 on the first day of the season. To be getting players in at EPL level shows everyone exactly where we hope to be this time next year. Champions.

15 May 2016 16:34:48
looking at all the posts here and can't help wondering exactly how many midfielders do you want? Crooks, Windass, Holt, Halliday, Rossiter, Thompson, Forrester, Murdock, Walsh, and now maybe Barton, and yet we keep seeing posts about even more, like Dorrans for example.
C'mon guys get real.

15 May 2016 18:11:06
Crooks, Barton, rossiter are holding midfielders.

Windass, forester are number 10s.

Holt, halliday are central midfielders with halliday able to fill in at other positions (full back on the wing) .

Murdoch and Thompson are young and will likely go out on loan again if not play here and there in cup games etc.

Walsh is a winger.

If we beat hibs and qualify for Europe we need a decent sized squad and bringing in the guys we have already brought in and the guys who may well sign (Windass, crooks, rossiter, Barton and dorrans) bulks up an already small squad with added quality and replaces law, shiels and Templeton who are on their way out.

15 May 2016 20:00:56
Windass isn't a central midfielder like any of they guys you mentioned neither is waslsh or forrester they are wingers. Crooks will cover at the back aswell. We need depth to cover for injuries and suspensions.

15 May 2016 17:44:22
If we can bring in better than we have then we should, we need to keep moving forward as a club. Some of these guys will find themselves as squad players but at least this year instead of the likes of law etc coming off the bench we will be able to bring quality players off the bench.

15 May 2016 18:20:41
Think crooks will be cb. walsh and murdoch be out on loan again or sold i think. thompson may be on loan aswell. windass can play as no 10 or attacking mid. forrester is a winger even tho we played him in mid.

15 May 2016 18:02:48
I believe Thomson can play in defence, Walsh and forrester are forwards and besides we are potentially competing on four fronts next season. Injuries and suspensions will play apart so depth of squad is ideal. Besides its still ten midfielders less than Celtic. 😂.

16 May 2016 08:17:47
Davie1980

Crooks was in the league 2 team of the year playing in midfield so surely it would be a mistake playing him as a CB. As for Murdoch I don't think Warburton rates him and I think it likely he will try and offload him which is a pity.

15 May 2016 15:42:00
Really really impressed with what the new board and warbs and davie have done so far and what there intentions r looking like for next season. Anyone else think that we should be trying to tie him down to a long term deal?

15 May 2016 16:14:48
Most defenitly. unfortunatly i'm not sure warbs will be here longer than 3 years. hope so but long time away from his family.

15 May 2016 14:37:22
Having a look at the Rangers media pages talking about the possible signing of Joey Barton, some two faced garbage being spouted, and the high horse mentality i hate from Rangers fans, we have had some players who have let us down with their antics over the years, let's cut the guy some slack, the management team will deal with that, he will add some steel to our midfield, and that's what we lack. I think most of the posts come from guys below the age of 30, who don't have the memories of the pre Souness era. Rangers first, last and always.

15 May 2016 16:11:06
The guys a thug, I don't know how many Rangers players have ever randomly knocked wee boys out at night clubs but you must know different or maybe it's because I'm younger than 30?

With reference to that assault here is a quote: Sentencing him to six months in jail, Judge Henry Globe QC said it was a "violent and cowardly act"

Fair one he might be a different character now and I would give him a go.

You can't sit and say people have a high horse mentality for having formed an opinion around history, that's human nature.

Also, your post sounds very ironic. Just because some people don't predate the 80's doesn't make them less informed of past players antics so come down from your high horse and let people have an opinion that's different to yours.

15 May 2016 16:23:48
Ref Ratbob, his previous antics were when he was a young cocksure footballer, i do not condone his past antics. my point is, Diouf, Fergie, Gazza, all flawed players, who properly handled did the job, god bless him even Fernando Rickson. My point about age was not to patronise supporters, but the last 3 years reminded me of the early 80's when we were dreadful, we need to be forward thinking and positive, as we have a dynamic manager, who has a vision, without the scattergun approach to finance. We are still rebuilding our graet club, and unity and solidarity are the watchwords, we have enough enemies, the press, and nearly every club in Scotland who wanted us dead. My love, my passion is Rangers, always will be, i respect all arguments and points of view, but some people really do frustrate me. All the best Rafrob, a fellow bluenose who's opinion i respect,

15 May 2016 16:25:42
Barron's just a product is of his environment. He had a tough upbringing and ended up a millionaire Footballer, he seems to have calmed down a lot though. Who are we to judge, let's just let the guy get on with his football.
In terms of playing wise he'll be the best in the league by a long way in my opinion.

15 May 2016 16:57:54
For enough safetyman, I only respond in a manner I thought was a valid response so don't take it personally.

I agree about the long line of snakes at our door and definitely see the points made about past players.

As I said, I would give him a go as I rate his football quality, however he has a less than desirable past and that takes time to gloss over.

Recbob, that's a valid point and one I agree with but also a massive point of argument when you look at people who grow up in worse and become doctors, lawyers etc. Without knocking folk out.

15 May 2016 18:49:23
Look at his brother who grew up in the same setting, serving life for murder. Barton has done well for himself getting out of that life and being a EPL player most of his career. Yes he has had his troubles, but it's all quite minor in comparison. Loads of players have been charged with assault, it happens they are only human.

15 May 2016 20:01:47
He isn't the first player we might sign with problems and won't be the last.

15 May 2016 15:25:42
Great to hear from a Rangers man who knows the story of our club since Marlborough days, Barton would be sensational signing, if it happens.

15 May 2016 19:55:54
His brother, a racist, murdered a black lad because he had a white girlfriend.

Don't see how that is situational growth.?

Anyway, I agree that where you come from moulds the person you become. I disagree that it means if you live near junkies you become one.

On Barton, I think he's a good player that has a colourful past that Scottish media will love to bang on about that's all.

15 May 2016 21:25:36
I don't buy the he might be a reformed character argument. Even if he is, he's carrying a shed-load of baggage that impacts the reputation of the club at a time when it's just getting out of an all time low.

In no particular order of horror: stubbing out a cigar on a team mates face, slagging off team mates publicly, doing time, assaults, affray, violent conduct, alcoholism, a bit too handy on social media. Is he that good a footballer that we can ignore these aspects of his character and take a risk by bringing him to Rangers?

In Warburton's defence he's forgotten more about talent spotting than I'll ever know and he will have a high degree of insight into Barton's current character.

But I can't reconcile those who want us to have high standards, talk about class then get frothy at the gusset over a man who, had he gone to any other team in Scotland, we'd be absolutely slating him/ them.

If he signs - I hope I'm incorrect!

15 May 2016 14:24:30
Really hope we get Barton and Cummings. Rossiter at 19 still has a bit to learn and why not from Barton. Not his bad boy stuff mind, the football side of things, of which he is more than a descent role model.
As for Cummings, his record I feel, speaks for itself. He does and will continue to score goals for fun. Still only 20 so has a good resale value once The Hat sorts his temperament.
A beast at the back and a goalie and we're in good shape.

15 May 2016 16:18:59
Couldn't agree more mate. Delighted with things so far!

15 May 2016 14:21:49
I honestly think we could have a great chance of the league next season, when you look at the so called teams who challenged this year, they are basically rank. Motherwell shipping 7 to the eastenders, Aberdeen getting horsed at home, we will have a field day with some of those. With the new signings and a good pre season, we should come out flying, a home fixture to start would be ideal. can't wait to get going.

15 May 2016 15:49:31
Regarding Rangers winning the league next year a lot will depend on what Celtic do, who they get for manager, who they buy, who they sell, yeah the Rangers team will be very different from this season so imo it will be a battle next year, i can't wait, I'm so excited to see our first 11 next season.

15 May 2016 15:58:20
Don't think we'll get a home game think it will be celtic to unfurl the league flag would imagine the spl flag would take precedence over championship so probably away first.

15 May 2016 12:33:34
Lot of talk regarding Cummings signing next, I even posted a few weeks ago we have offered him a deal guess we will know next week if he starts for theme and how he plays.

15 May 2016 15:56:30
Hibs won't sell us Cummings, personally I don't want or like him but whoever we buy I will give full backing.

15 May 2016 16:24:55
Why not? The Allan situation was different. They wanted to keep hold of their best players because they seen us as promotion rivals. Hibs are now staying down, that's no longer the case, they don't have a reason not to sell. Also they need to cash in on a couple of players as financially they are struggling abit with another season in the 2nd tier.

15 May 2016 13:52:13
supposedly sheffield wednesday ready to bid 1 million for cummings.

15 May 2016 17:08:22
In my opinion Cummings would be an excellent signing - He is a natural goalscorer - proven dead ball scorer and we all know from watching him recently he poses a threat when he gets the ball - I'm sure our management would bring out his potential and also keep him in line - I would definitely say that he is, worth a punt - Happy to hear what other potential forwards are available to us in our price range

15 May 2016 11:37:40
Rossiter ain't on anywhere near 10k says MW.

15 May 2016 09:21:06
The fact that our management team want Joey Barton should be enough for any doubters.
There is also a nice touch on twitter, where Dean Windass has sent a message to Joey -------- " Look after my boy [ Josh. ] or you'll have me to answer to"

15 May 2016 06:30:56
Message for the fella across the city Mr Timalloy, we had a wee £20 bet at the start of the season as to which of our teams would win most league games, well here we are your last match of the season both teams on 25 wins apiece, I'm not expecting motherwell to throw up an helicopter Sunday for me, so with that in mind who was the charity of your choice and I will duly cough, and just have to be happy with our fantastic season.

15 May 2016 08:03:34
Nice one soton. I remember that as well. This is what it should be like. A bit of banter but when it comes down to it, there are more important things in life. Well played sir.

15 May 2016 08:42:48
Nice touch well done in keeping it all in perspective. This is what the great part of this rivalry is when it's important we pull together.

15 May 2016 11:34:43
Well played Soton Bear.

15 May 2016 12:04:36
Maybe hang off a couple of hours mate big efe ambrose is in the starting eleven 😁.

15 May 2016 12:17:50
Bravo sir!

15 May 2016 16:32:34
Thanks craigton mate for the wee bit of hope, never see the game, but seen the score, was big efe doing nets for motherwell the day lol.
