Congratulations to Gordon Strachan---wish him all the best in his new job.A hard task. {The Ed039's Note - He was always going to be a popular choice, even alot of Rangers fans on here bigged him up for the job. Lets face it, it cant get any worse than Levein)

Believable31 Unbelievable13

The wee man showed he wore his heart on his sleve and played out of his skin and was well rewarded.

Hopefully players will aspire and aim to make him and the country proud. Good effort all we ask.

Agree14 Disagree6

I can't understand why all the fuss about Strachan. Never ever thought he had that great a record as a manager and can't see him doing much for Scotland. Don't know that many Rangers fans that want him as Scotland coach either.

Agree9 Disagree27

Here's hoping he does a job, but also really hope he will not repeat the smart ass attitude he portrayed previously when questioned after games. {The Ed039's Note - Thats one of the things I like about him)

Agree3 Disagree11

His strachanisms are what makes him, he's at his best with smart a$s reporters being shot down in seconds..as in can wee have a quick word gordon, his response aye son VELOCITY..bye,, can't w8 too see the turn around he will make too this scotland squad, he should have been in charge for the start of the campaign instead of that inept fool levein wich cost us bigtime..Time will tell, i have high hopes for the wee man..

Agree11 Disagree2

Best one from strachan ... doing a speech ... i felt nervous looking into the room and i see players that are better players than me better looking than me and funnier than me ... so you can imagine my relief when i seen big eck walking in ... classic {The Ed039's Note - I have never heard that one, but it is a good one)

Agree10 Disagree0

@5 that is brilliant pmsl
I wish him good luck! But hopefully people will realise our national team needs time! The era we have just gone through is not going to be an overnight fix!!

rangers scouts need to get sacked like how much players have they brought in and have been utter gash what's the thoughts of my fellow bears

Believable46 Unbelievable5

Miller said too many hangers on, on inflated salaries etc etc... but no sign of cull, other than on the pitch

Rangers will be playing there football in the lower english leagues soon, there's ameeting monday, also 18 clubs support Rangers to join them, {The Ed039's Note - This is nonsense. There is no way all the relevant bodies will support this to push it through)

Believable22 Unbelievable44

ED, thank god your here to keep sanity alive!

Agree23 Disagree14

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Can we put this rubbish to bed for a final time. We are a Scottish club, getting back on our feet . Please drop it.. We will have to put up with it and get on with it. Bears come on .We are showing the world we have the best and most loyal supporters any team would be priud of. Lets just get on with it and stop the nonesense
.

Agree26 Disagree19

This will happen sooner or later, 3 EPL managers said they would welcome Rangers in the ELP over the last few days, now lets see if this gathers momentum, Lets face the facts! Celtic want the Champion league money every season in a one horse race so let them have it.

Agree16 Disagree32

No3, please stop dreaming .the EPL is light years away .there would be such a backlash from every division in England so unless there is a major reconstruction of British football just concentrate on getting your team back through the divisions and into your rightful place

Agree24 Disagree15

Listen green here for the money, he said so, and more money in england and epl, so if he ever gets to epl he would have club worth £200million.

so we can see his plan, debt free and on a charge. now how many gers fans back this route, ???

Agree14 Disagree27

3. Managers can say what they want. Chairman count and there's not a single EPL chairman who actively would want Rangers in the PL no matter what CG tells us.

Agree24 Disagree6

It has nothing to do with the Conference even if they do invite us. It is not allowed by FIFA/UEFA, so can't and won't happen. It is time we accepted we are a Scottish club and play in Scotland. This talk of going anywhere but here is meaningless and stupid. How many times do we need to be told before it sinks in!

Agree22 Disagree10

@5. Are you insane? £200m? {The Ed039's Note - I think so)

Agree18 Disagree10

At 3, they didn't just say they would want you in the league they said they would want Celtic in as well. But yous like to pick and chose whenever it makes you feel good eh? Stop making it sound like they only want you and wake up already, can't wait to see what green has yous believing next week or even tmr.

Agree12 Disagree5

@5 so how much would you value Rangers FC ( biggest club et al ) in EPL.... go on give us a number.

But £200m is peanuts in epl terms for a big club, big stadium, no debt !!!

Agree2 Disagree7

At 9: I have listened to the interview that all this info came from and not once did i hear celtics name mentioned by keys gray or brian lee. This story does not involve celtic whatsoever. So please elaborate on the quotes that regarded celtic? {The Ed039's Note - Its a non story, nothing is ever going to come of it)

Well done ED, a guiding light in the tunnel of madness, why do so many of our "crazy brigade" keep falling for all this complete drivel.
We will be in Scottish Football until others decide we can move on... that will be in mmmmmmmmmmmm ?? at the least 10yrs if ever.
So please lets concentrate on winning our leagues and get to top tier in quickest manner and on the way lets get rid of these money hungry directors etc before we get fleeced again... or being debt free will seem like a dream in the next 3 years.
Mr Green and co will keep shovelling out the crap about Rangers should "get this" Rangers are "etitled to that" its all a massive smokescreen to cover up their dealings in months ahead. Wake up.

Agree6 Disagree1

At 11) i agree with you ed i don't think it will happen either. What i will add tho is that if you listen to the interview you will be surprised at how the english media are talking about us, usually they put us down make snide comments about anything scottish. Not in this interview though everything sounded positive, from the questions and how they were asked to the answers. Not one cheap dig throughout the whole interview. Just maybe the tide is turning on the joining england thing. I don't particuarly like green but the fact that he is english maybe catching their attention down there. {The Ed039's Note - I take note of the no snide comment thing, but what you need to remember is one of the presenters of the show is ex-Rangers striker and Rangers fan Andy Gray, so there was never going to be any comments like that)

One of the main problems we have in Scottish football is the number of clubs that have no financial base to operate from. That is not a criticism, but an unfortunate sign of the times.
Although it will be difficult to accept, certain clubs must merge to survive.
Instead of two bit proposals being put forward by desperate people i.e.
sfa/spl. An independent body should look at our current situation and put forward a total proposal for the future. This study should have access to all clubs and in particular to the workings of the sfa/spl/sfl.
The body should have a legal mind, an accountant, a respected ex- pro footballer, a recently retired referee and a chairman who is an experienced communicator possibly from the media.
My initial thoughts would two be 14 team leagues backed by two 14 team 'reserve' leagues. The reserve leagues would comprise of the viable club's reserve teams with the balance made up of others, possibly highland league or junior clubs.
Food for thought? {The Ed039's Note - Henry McLeish done an independant analysis of the game a few years back and made recommendations, the only thing to come out of that is Mark Wotte to oversee things from grass routes for international football but nothing has been done on his recommendations for the club game)

Believable8 Unbelievable7

In general terms I am total agreement with the main points here, however there are a couple of issues that I don't wholly agree with.

Obviously there is no doubt whatsoever that the game in Scotland needs a radical overhaul from the bottom up. Needless to say there are numerous reasons for the decline in our game over the past few decades, none more so that the apparent lack of talent coming 'through the ranks'.

I understand that this would be difficult to implement but I think that some scheme similar to that of the college drafting system in American Football would be highly beneficial, a central school of excellence governed by the SFA and run by coaches and ex players etc centrally funded with the succesful lads being signed by clubs for free. The details of how this would be done would need some serious ironing out and no doubt there would be calls of 'unfair' but I'm sure something could be arranged for he greater good. How it would be funded I don't know but if the SFA had tens of millions to revamp an unwanted and unnecessary Hampden a few years ago then I'm sure that they could come up with something. I am not suggesting that clubs cannot nurture their own players, this would be to compliment that not replace it by the way.

Back to the original OP, while understand the composition of your independent body i believe it would take more than that to revamp Scottish football. I maintain that we need a Kenny Dalglish/Graeme Souness type of figurehead to oversee and govern in the same fashion as the French and Germans have/had with world stage guys like Platini and Rumminegge. From there, relevant personnel can be appointed to restructure the whole shooting match.

Further, on the delicate matter of amalgamation of clubs, this has been banded about for decades. The obvious ones being the Dundee clubs and Stirlingshire clubs etc, however, I believe this is a non starter. As and example, would you agree to merge with Celtic so that Glasgow could have a EPL club? Same goes. Falkirk's rivalry with East Stirilinshire's or Dundee's with the other Dundonian club is no less relevant than ours

Restructuring the amount of teams in each league is merely papering over the cracks until the next fiasco turns up; which usually doesn't take too long to show its face.

I suppose in essence, what I'm saying is go back to square one. Get the lads at 9-10 ish, get them to a school of excellence to teach them everything from how to take a throw in, to how to conduct themselves in public. There should be no shortage of youngsters or indeed coaches to implement this. This is by no means a quick fix. The French done something similar to this years ago and the upshot of it was that 10-15 years after it begun they were World and European champions. Not saying that the Jocks will achieve that level of success, but I am sure you get the point

Agree7 Disagree4

Good post, makes a lot of sense.

two dundee teams both pants, two edinburgh teams but neither could make waves in europe

28 strong teamsbetter than 40 weaker teams and 2 giants

Agree12 Disagree2

Aye good call mate. Family companies merge and thrive .Football has to adapt or die.

Agree9 Disagree1

To 1.] As OP you picked up part of my point wrongly. All teams local to each other would not have to merge as the main criteria would be financial stability. To Ed.] In my opinion Henry McLeish would not be capable of a clinical appraisal and his waffle missed what was needed.
Billy B. {The Ed039's Note - I didnt say it was good or bad, just the OP said that an independent enquiry into the state of the game was needed, but this had already been done)

Agree1 Disagree2

Ed.] My point about Henry Mcleish is, like the sfa etc., he did not have the ability to carry out the necessary function required.
Billy B. {The Ed039's Note - I am not disagreeing with that, I think that they wanted someone with a degree of business sense in producing the report, but in doing that they chose someone with a limited knowledge of football)

I can't see why Macron would be an issue. They make Villa, Leeds, both sheffield clubs, 3 teams from le championat and Lazio's kit to name a few.

Believable8 Unbelievable14

Aye and every one of their strips are rubbish. They look like something you'd buy for a 5 a side team.

Agree15 Disagree3

...and they have a presence in Scotland in the lower leagues. Sounds like a perfect match.
Al

Agree16 Disagree3

Shirt will still cost same as before, but sub-standard and less money to gers...

this is not a win-win, thanks green.

selling us down the river.

Agree13 Disagree8

As a tradionalist, I think that the current kit is fantastic though I would prefer the 'Govan' black and red socks. Smaller advertising makes it look more like a Rangers strip too. Aware that I sound like an old fart but there you go.

Agree5 Disagree8

@4 totally agree mate ! NOW away & DIG OOT those black & red socks ya old fart !!!!!!

Here's a thought:

Charles Green could investigate the possibility of the South American sponsorship model- where there are more than one on the shirt. Then it's a case of forget about sponsors, why not just charge the fans an annual fee to have their names on the kit.

100 banger a year, 40,000 fans (I'll go with what we def know, as opposed to Chuckie's ludicrous claims- there is no shame in the truth, it's actually impressive) is 4 million per year.

A fortune to be had. The fans get to be on the famous kit- and no need to sell your soul to Mike Ashley.

The Patient

Believable3 Unbelievable16

Lol with all the print shirts will be back not blue.

Agree3 Disagree2

Might just be me reading this wrong but, 36 games in league. 40,000 fans, that's 1, 111 names. 11 players 3 subs. Then that's 79 names per jersey?

Agree3 Disagree3

While I agree with your point that we should be looking at other models of sponsorship. I feel it would be best to have different sponsors for the home, away and possibly third kit (if there is one). This could generate more income. There is also nothing to stop us adopting a second sponsor on the reverse of any shirt. Remember players names are not used within the SFL set up.

Agree1 Disagree2

The governing body of the league you play in has the last say on shirt advertising. It has nothing to do with the clubs, they just apply for permission.
