I have repeatedly said on here that borna barisic is a good left back, but lacks the fight and the heart, to play for rangers. He hides in the rough and tumble scottish premiership.
He's a shadow of the player we thought we were signing from osiek! The best left back at rangers, which again i've said on here numerous times, is lee wallace who continually gets overlooked, to reasons we can all guess why. The way wallace has been treated by our chairman and board of directors is truly shocking IMO! Short memories and all that! Lee wallace should be currently playing left back for glasgow rangers, simple as that as far as i'm concerned!

Lee Wallace is done. Legs have been gone for at least a couple of years now. Barisic and halliday are miles in front of him.

No chance is wallace done IMO frustrated blue. Absolutely NO danger! He's coming back from a bad injury, which incidentally became a whole lot worse, when he chose to play through the pain barrier, for our club. that's what made his injury worse. Sorry mate but at 29/ 30 years of age, lee wallace is nowhere near done. This injury has taken its toll and once he goes to another club,
Unfortunately, he'll show you if he's done or not! Over his injury permitting of course! He's streets ahead of both halliday and barisic!
Thats no slight on andy halliday, who's been terrific under gerrard and most definitely has the heart to play for rangers! Barisic? Don't get me started!

Surely you need fight and heart and not to hide to be a good left back in ANY league.
i'm fed up getting told that this players a good player and that players a good player when that's not what i'm watching and i'm fed up waiting for Gerrard to come good.

Barisic is poor at defending and made of glass. His biggest asset is going forward and even at that can only remember 1 great assist v Villarreal and he was at fault for their 2nd goal. Would like him to come good but won’t hold my breath. If Tav made half of his mistakes he’d be hung drawn and quartered. Was a big fan of lee Wallace but don’t know if his time has come and gone.

Coops, Lee Wallace was a good player but is now well past his best and not nearly good enough for us. Very similar to Steve Davis I’m afraid, of whom you have gone very quite on recently.

Barasic is too terrible. I don't care if he looked OK at the start, and hit the bar from a free kick last week, he's absolutely woeful. Those who say bring back Wallace are way off the mark. He used to be OK, but basically hasn't been a footballer now for over 2 years. Forget him.

Andy Halliday is by far our best left back. People talk about him being passionate but lacking the ability. Couldn't disagree more. He's a quality player and left back suits him. His delivery is excellent. Miles better than Tav's on the the other side. I can only assume Gerrard is praying his expensive signing can come good, because on merit, Halliday is the obvious 1st choice LB.

Wallace is not the answer either, halliday has done fine at left back and has been better than barisic. Having said that, I thought when katic was in the team barasic looked better. To be fair I thought the whole defence looked better with katic in there. 👍.

Coops Wallace is 32 on August first. He may have worsened his injury by continuing to play.
Going forward he is not the answer, he has had his time with us. However, I wish him well for the future.
If we are to win the league we need about six better players to go straight into team next year.
Although I note gerrard says some changes and two or three marquee signings.

I get the “improvement” comments about only being 4 points better off this season and celtic being poorer. I think the problem has been when the performances have been great, the expectation levels have risen (especially given the euro run and old firm win) and we expect to see that week in week out and that's where the frustration sets in. I don't think its unrealistic to ask that however its all work in progress.

I agree. That's the frustration for me. You can see an overall improvement in the performances. I for one have enjoyed most of our performances this year, the brand of football is good.

However, our failures are not taking chances and failure to create clear chances at times.

It's essential we don't rip it up and start again.

SG has to be given at least another season to implement his plans. This, with proper backing in the summer should allow progress for next season.

3 or 4 quality signings right through the middle is required. I'm sure plans are already underway for this, as SG will know who is likely to stay or go. This means we finally get to a stage of planned progress.

Why thank you, Ulsterman - I try to be as honest as possible without denigrating or besmirching the team or the management.

As I have said many many times, in my day teams were built by the spine >

Goalkeeper - CentreBack - CentreMid - Attack - with the Centreback normally being the captain - McCrorie fits that bill, methinks.

And I also think that SG, IS THE MAN to take us forward - he was a gamble and a rookie (still is) and as I remember it is a 3-5 year job.

PS - you talk a lot of sense yersel!

Jboy21 - Some players can be brilliant, and some players not so brilliant, and being brilliant for smaller clubs does not guarantee success at Rangers. It takes a strong will and determination to succeed, when every kick, pass and tackle is analysed a thousand times, and you have ten of thousands praising you then yelling at you - Halliday has that mentality and determination, whilst not the most gifted he plays for the jersey, and jack also, McGregor as well but he needs to stop the petulance he is 36 or so. Morelos, I like and I think he is consistent but needs a partner, and looking on BBC website it does seem as though it was not a booking but a penalty. The rest of the team (that played the last few games) are of a similar standard and would do well in smaller clubs - I would play McCrorie as he is the next Gough (imho) and also Middleton and a few of the 17/ 18 year olds.

Going back to Morelos - he is not suited to being played solo, he needs a partner, as he takes two or three players with him every time and with a clever pass would release the partner - or vice versa.

SG needs to bring back Docherty!

It’s no excuse Coldo, we are refereed poorly and the red and yellow count reflects that. We didn’t lose the game the other night due to poor decisions but we have dropped points elsewhere due to the wrong decisions. Countless times actually. If you want to talk about mediocrity then your support of the team is mediocre, you’ll have to face facts my friend, we are just slightly more mediocre than last year but Celtic are a good deal more mediocre than they were and if we continue to support the team and the manager then at some point we’ll cross over.

We have the nucleus of a good team and I trust SG to make the necessary adjustments for next season.
We have to consider life without Tavernier, Kent and Morelos, for starters. In my opinion we need a McCoist/ Hateley style strike force, so given the strides we have made this year, I believe we will clear the final hurdle next year. So let's hope the manky mob, drop a clanger in the cup, and we win our next two games and maybe, just maybe, we give them a fright.

after the hibs game SG said he was frustrated at not scoring more, yet played the same team, formation and style against Aberdeen (other than halliday/ barasic) . does he not have trust in the other squad players. is he blinkered? we are so predictable in our play, and the players like kent and candei
as are not good enough.

Kent’s no good enough? He’s up there with Morelos as one of our players of the season so far, he’s a bit inconsistent but On his day is one of the best players in the league.

Kent has 5 goals hardly setting the Heather on fire. also very little end product most of the time cuts inside instead of taking a man on. won't get a game next season once Murphy and Jones there.

Forget about Celtic's form this season, we have lost the same number of games as them (4) so it is the 4 draws that have cost us 8 points. There is only 6 goals difference between us in goal difference. SG has got us closer and we should finish 2nd which is one better than last year. I think Davis has been a waste of money (he has hardly kicked a ball) and I'd start playing Defoe or Lafferty from the start with Morelos. We'll see what the summer break brings.

DOIGER - definitely agree that Morelos needs another striker to operate with just like McCoist and Hately.

However, we need a Gerard / Gough / Butcher type to drive and motivate.

Totally agree with you Doiger - I think McCrorie is definitely potential and should be given more time, and hopefully Docherty will bring a bit of drive to the squad. I also hope that J Jones slump in form is due to his being turned.

I still have faith in SG turning the corner - what monies he will get is still to be seen, but do hope that ALL Morelos monies are given to him.

We are only closer to celtic because they have been poor, not because we have improved. We are 4 points better off than this stage last year. How can anyone seriously consider 4 points ( a win and a draw) is a measure of progress? Domestically its the same old story, pumped out of both cups and struggling in the league. The big teams show us up. Our signings success rate is less than 50% and we have spent a fortune again. We can't afford to get rid of gerrard and start again, but this summer we have to be a lot more smarter in the market. I like gerrard but he seems tactically inept, hopefully he does learn because another season like this season and he will be gone. What has happened to katic mcrorie middleton, so much promise? Like everyone, during the euro cup qualifiers I was filled with hope, great results and performances I thought this could be our year domestically. The season, except europe, has been a major disappointment. Only a miracle will bring us the title. So starting saturday these players and gerrard have to prove that they deserve to be here and are worthy of a chance next season👍.

If as you say we lose the league by 3 points then I will comeback and say wow how good were we from the middle of march until the end of the season. That would be more like the rangers we all want because we would have pumped hearts hibs aberdeen celtic. I would put my hands up and acknowledge the improvement and yes that would be progress. Anyway back to the real world, its the middle of march and up until now 4 points is not progress👍. Our league position doesn't look as bad because celtic have been poor. Celtic have regressed we have not progressed. The facts are there for all to see jbhoy👍.

4 points is an improved position. Slow progress I give you that but by the dictionary definition, definitely progress.

Baz, by dictionary definition yes but surely you agree that 4 points is not the progress that was expected and is infact well short of the standard expected. As I said we continue to struggle against the better SPL sides and given our budget, the money we have spent and the players we have we have seriously under performed and under achieved. 4 points is by no means a measure of acceptable progress👍.

My opinion here is that our squad is better than aberdeens, hibs livingston etc, so why are we not beating them? I say its down to the manager and his total lack of tactics, that's my honest opinion! what's your take on why we can't beat them supercooper, jboy etc.
Surely you don't think that the manager is above criticism. When you start throwing accusations out at people that critisise Gerrard it suggests to me that you just follow along like sheep with your heads in the sand. As I said just MY opinion.

Pretty simple, we are far too predictable in terms of team selection, tactics, substitution timings etc. Other managers have us worked out. It's like Warburton mk2.

SirStruth you complain on here about being too predictable on team selection in your opinion. Others complain that SG changes the team too much and that is their opinion. The manager can only win when Rangers are winning, and all the doubters come out of the woodwork when results don't go our way.
