another record for our tic residents to mull over, did you know that gers were the first british team to reach a european final the cup winners final in 1961 which I attended at ibrox with a crowd of 80,000 and a electric atmostphere, might have got beat 2-1 at ibrox with eric caldow missing a penalty but these nights were special doug t. s. o

Believable46 Unbelievable18

So you lost then? Well done.

Agree32 Disagree33

That was a liquidated team.

Agree32 Disagree33

Dyou ever reach a European cup final? You know, the big important one? No! We reached it twice! And as you know won it the first time.

Agree32 Disagree26

You can talk about that and wtv else you did in the past but at least we get to continue and add to our histrory just like being the only and firts scottishclub that made the most points in cl group stage beating the best club ever and well last 16 with a lot of rokkies in players and manager and being one of the youngst squad with the least money against the richies clubs and next year we could add even more glory with no debt worry of going bust, just a super bright future

Agree28 Disagree22

Wrong the first British team to reach a europaen cup final were Glentoran FC from belfast. In 1914 they won the rapid vienna trophy.
Its in the history books.
Get your facts right
Paul Belfast

Agree17 Disagree31

I always thought st johnstone, killie, st mirren and arbroath were the best teams in the world, need to clear that up with james traynor doug t. s. o

Agree25 Disagree2

Did you know that when you won the cup winners cup you were knocked out in an earlier round then reinstated and then went on to win it.

Agree24 Disagree8

Doug, that's what to do! ask that nice man traynor, you know how honest is eh?

Agree11 Disagree11

Did you also know that when you won the cup winners cup you only qualified as runners-up as the tic actually won the scottish cup. Hope you have greater success with this new club. pat-c

Agree16 Disagree16

No 7 because the ref made an ass up of it as away goals count as double it had something to do with extra time and as far as my memory recalls it was rapid vienna and gers won the replay at highbury where the game was played I have the programme somewhere for this doug t. s. o

Agree18 Disagree6

No 5 paul your wrong there, as uefa wasnt on the go then and, your vienna cup has never been recognised at all, in fact glentoran didn't compete till 1962 in the fair cities cup so put that 1 to bed doug t. s. o

Agree26 Disagree5

Even although i'm a lifelong gers man me and my pal went to some of celtics first european games, not to support celtic but to see valencia, and basle, valencia game I can remember think its was deans put a penalty into the rangers end of the crowd so it was by by celtic by by lol doug t. s. o ps basle result was a 10- 1 win I think that's when swiss teams would have been better sticking to making chocolates

Agree18 Disagree1

@7. Yes kind if true. Well done. Thanks for accepting without doubt that we are one and the same club. Glad your not in denial anymore.

Agree8 Disagree4

No 15 I don't read blogs, whos leggatt anyway did he play for aberdeen at 1 time, well your next few titles and last years are all going to be classed as tainted maybe you could fill me in on who was celtic player that put penalty over the bar in your early european ventures I thought it was deans but think i'm wrong maybe it was your world class goalkeeper francis haffey then again he was good at kicking and throwing ball into his own net lol lol doug t. s. o

Agree18 Disagree4

I thought the fans would have invaded the pitch on tuesday night against juve to get the game abandoned like the cup semi at ibrox 1962 against st mirren when 3-0 down they couldn't take it, tottie beck a famous glasgow rangers man scored that day and guess who was in goal for celtic that day my favourite goalkeeper frank haffey lol lol doug t. s. o

Agree19 Disagree3

@16 Bamber it would appear you are going into the first stage of senility, Haffey never played in the same team as Dean's.
Tam

Agree0 Disagree8

@ 15. Not tainted you fool. We won league cup in 71 and finished fourth. So is that not enough to qualify for europe if not cwc then UEFA cup? So it is not tainted. How many times has champions league not been won by the previous league champs? Is Manchester United 99 tainted? Or Chelsea last season?

Agree4 Disagree0

Post 3, it took more work to qualify for scottish and league cup finals back then as there were more rounds then than a european cup final!

Agree1 Disagree0

Post 2, how many times, you can't get a "liquidated team", liquidated business, yes, "liquidated team", no, its not that hard to understand!

Agree5 Disagree4

Hi tam bamber here, I never said deans ever played with haffey what did say and asked to be corrected who was it that put penalty into the crowd at parkhead in a european game thought it was deans the thought he didint come till later, ask me a gers question and il answer that no problem the same as some of my fellow brothers in green who are half way to the blue side of life already, special discount for tims on next season book next year for moving across the city lol doug bamber t. s. o

Agree7 Disagree1

Doug. when I said you got knocked out of an earlier round ithought you would know your history. the team in question was sporting lisbon. I thought you would know the teams you played on the way to your greatest hour. I know this and i'm a celtic fan who wasnt even born at the time. {The Ed039's Note - The referees didnt know their rulebook, Rangers won the tie on away goals but the referee didnt take that into consideration as it was a new rule, a UEFA official pointed out their mistake after ET, extra time should never have been played in that match at all. I think you should study up on that history you talk about, Rangers were not reinstated, the officials made a very big boo boo)

Agree5 Disagree6

@19; You had to win the Scottish Cup to qualify for the Cup Winners Cup. League positions did not mean much then, certainly not fourth.

Agree0 Disagree2

@25. My point being us winning league cup and finishing fourth was enough surely to qualify for UEFA cup.? UEFA would have decided which cup we went into no one else. We couldn't pick and choose which cup we entered. Someone had to play in cwc, it'd the rules. Anyhow we won the flipping thing or would you prefer the SPL and sfa to make up a new rule to take that off us? Get a life you bitter bunch.

Agree2 Disagree1

No 27, wrong again, i'm not english half scottish half irish, yes well done ed 39 youve brought it back to me there shouldn't have been extra time, then again there's an excuse for me I've saw more glorious glasgow rangers victories than the majority of people on here can't remember everything like 1961 when big harry davis scored 2 against eintracht at hampden for the opening of the floodlights, come on now no 27 what's your memories doug t. s. o

Agree2 Disagree0

Well ed 39 think I've posted enough for today think il have a cheap nasty lager to wash my scrambled egg down lol doug t. s. o {The Ed039's Note - Good night Doug, take it easy)

Agree1 Disagree0

@24 Bamber don't know why you use my name in this one I only answered the Dixie Deans one. It was against Inter Milan Dixie put the ball over the bar, don't start trying to be less smug now with your nasty lager post, I'll stop respecting you lol
Tam

Agree0 Disagree1

Ok doug my first game for celtic was a victory v hibs. when I researched years later I found out george best played for hibs. my favourite game was a 5-4 victory v falkirk in early 90s. you will be happy to know my first 7 visits to ibrox ended in defeats but I still came back for more. no hard feelings, its a banter page after all.

Agree2 Disagree0

No 26 tam ah inter milan must have been there too, its wasnt your quote about nasty cheap lager it was someone else, do you remember when celtic played their reserve games at parkhead on a friday night, I used to cover football all over the country when gers weren't playing eg killie 5 eintracht 1 at rugby park wee calimero tommy mc lean ran riot for killie doug t. s. o

It appears Jabba was sending his sports articles to Rangers Owner for approval and edit before publication. Alex Thomson's blog has details of emails between Craig Whyte and Jabba. So Rangers fans reading "independent" sports journalism were actually being fed CWs edited position. Had this practice simply continued from SDM DAYS?

I previously read on these Rumour sites SDM proof read every article Jabba published. I thought that was fiction.

Believable19 Unbelievable5

Believe that bag at C4 if you want but he is already being questioned over how he has used text info-in other words to suite his agenda and not show them all which puts a lot into context.

Agree13 Disagree13

Never been a fan of Traynor and didn't want him at Ibrox.

So hypocritical that he accuses other journalists of being incompetent and is then caught out licking Craig Whyte's you know what and letting him proof read his copy for the DR.

Maybe if we had got the truth about Whyte from day 1 things would be very different today at Ibrox.

Agree25 Disagree1

Cant believe Traynor is using the official club website to engage in a war of words with a blogger. if he has nothing to hide then he should seek recourse through a court action for libel. the fact that he chooses not to would suggest Thomsons allegations stand up to scrutiny and the likelyhood is that there are several more to come. the critical question is = who is the source.? my guess would be Whyte and I'd also wager that this is just the start of a paper trail that will be damning and damaging for the head of comms at Ibrox and most probably a few others too. the truth will out .

Agree7 Disagree2

Traynor is a blogger and calling Alex Thomson one is a it shallow just because he writes about the rangers, send traynor into a war zone,

See Alan thomsons at it again with his blogging, needs to get a life that guy, he's in the net too much getting information about our club, can't wait for the response from JT

Believable19 Unbelievable15

If you are going to have a bash at someone for telling the truth at least learn their name ya clown, or were you in that much of a hurry to discredit him on here? I blame the schools.

Agree16 Disagree7

I think that the emails are very damning and there are obviously more. JT may be consulting his learned friends.

Paddy Malarkey

Agree14 Disagree6

Once again whyte shows not that much of a fool.

taped D&P. wow!

Emails with traynor. (how many emails in total James. let's know how bad it could be ).?

Green warned bad times ahead, its started already. but green also reported saying club will be worth 500million in 3 years. wow! stellar growth - AIM requires statements like that to be official release thru its deal engine, not in a meeting room in oz?

Agree12 Disagree3

Aren't you concerned if it's true? How would you feel if a journo was in touch with Lawwell about what he was writing?

Agree8 Disagree0

Never heard of him has he got a brother alex?

Agree8 Disagree2

Jabba's in charge of official releases.

Agree1 Disagree1

So They must be fact because a journalist says they are. Aye right. Thruth and journalist in the same sentance is a contradiction in terms.

Agree3 Disagree6

ONCE again Rangers are the subject of an article by Alex Thomson, who appears obsessed by this club's business.

This time, however, he turns his attention on me in a most callous and disgusting manner.
Fortunately I've been the target of many bloggers many times because of the well, let's just say strident way I've gone about my work. So, if you give it out you have to take it back.
This is one of the unwritten laws of journalism but this person's blog cannot pass without comment. Incredibly, it's allowed to sit under Channel 4's name.
This man has set himself up as a paragon of integrity yet he relies on Craig Whyte as a credible source.
Does he not know the former Rangers owner is under Crown Office investigation?
Thomson publishes the content of emails in which I make it clear to Whyte that a story about his spending plans will start with the figure of £15m for new players. It was necessary to let Whyte view the piece so that it would be difficult for him to try to deny it later.
Of course he did try just the same but he knows he said it. I know he said it and so, too, should Thomson. If he's spoken to Whyte he'll also know what this man is like.
The email was sent not because Whyte was being given editorial approval, as Thomson appears to be making out, but because I wanted Whyte to see the figure.
Also, show me a journalist who hasn't used these methods to extract further information and I'll show a hack who wasn't doing his job.
It is necessary to get close to people in football if you are to gain possession of the intelligence required to do the job properly. And that brings me on to Thomson's other point.
He claimed I asked Whyte for a job. How utterly absurd.
This blogger conveniently forgets to mention it was my work, along with that of the Daily Record's Keith Jackson, which finally exposed Whyte and brought him down.
We had been gathering information about the Ticketus deal and also Whyte's failure to hand over PAYE and NI. It was a long process and vital that the line of communication with Whyte remained open.
The fact is he asked me to come and work with him on more than one occasion. He also asked if I would advise him privately.
A game was being played out and working for Rangers at that time wasn't the goal. In fact, I kept my newspaper informed of the offers through a senior editorial executive because it was important they were on side with the operation.
I also made sure a senior person at the BBC, with whom I had a contract, also knew.
One or two trustworthy colleagues also were made aware of what was going on and we actually laughed at the very thought of me working with someone we were determined to expose.
On any other day I'd have dismissed this latest blog without comment but this is a special time for Rangers. We are a year on from administration and are putting in place a solid structure under the new regime.
Rangers have released a documentary on that crucial year on this very site and that's what we should all be concentrating on. Enjoy, and stop worrying about bloggers.

"always cheated. never defeated "
same old guff coming out from the paranoid mob lol, now it's european refs who have it in for selik?
so how much is hooper worth now? 20 mill haha and wanyama 20 mill haha oh. and don't get me started on that donkey broon! shown up for what you are, I mentioned in a previous post that lennon was a lucky manager and luck can only take you so far. looks like I was right and look forward to a right pasting in turin. that's if juve can even be bothered moving out of second gear

iw

Believable28 Unbelievable13

Jim Traynor must have been in a quandary last night, a man who happily praised Parkhead as the 'best atmosphere in Scotland at European nights' while he was on Radio Scotland.

To be fair the atmosphere wasn't too bad. For the first 3 minutes.

Agree15 Disagree2

A fantastic night lennon going on about being cheated and as for ambrose they would be better wi ambrose the cat

Agree13 Disagree2

Any fair minded person knows the ref didn't score any goals for juve. But juve were very cute at dead ball situations and didn't allow celtic to play to there strength. Some of the pulling was a bit over the top and action should have been taken to stop it.

Agree8 Disagree2

@2 You obviously weren't listening---the crowd's singing was deafening in the park and even watching on t. v. which I did when I got home from the game, you could hear it clearly. Despite the score, it was a good night ----how often do you get a chance to watch your club in the last 16 of C. L.?It was all a bonus for us so you can say what you want--it was great run.

Agree8 Disagree7

@1: to be fair, many players say it's one of the best atmospheres they've played in on European nights.

Agree10 Disagree3

Iw so Broony's a donkey and who in your new team is better than him, ah the silence is deafening, as for Lennon being lucky bet you wish Sally was as lucky, oh but wait a minute he was he kept his job because old Rangers were liquidated thus keeping his NON achievement's under wrap's.

I really can't believe Celtic fans ain't slaughtering lennon for playing Ambrose, the guy just played in a major final on Sunday flew 10,000 miles on the Monday then he thinks he's ok to play on Tuesday, just goes to show Lennon can do no wrong with Celtic fans

Believable27 Unbelievable6

Eh, they are having a go at Lennon.

Agree4 Disagree4

Took a gamble - lost. most think it was right decision - most think it was wrong decision not to hook him at half-time. the pundits on itv thought lennons tactics spot-on, is this a sellik list now?

Agree4 Disagree4

We don't slaughter our manager after every defeat. Unlike you guys.

Agree8 Disagree6

@3 you just slaughter the referee, only set of fans I know that blame a referee after a 3-0 defeat.

Agree8 Disagree6

@4 No just Rangers player's that blame the Ref for not protecting them in that wee bad league

can anyone please explain why mccoist wanted to comfirm his intrest in bell last night on the night of the celtic v juventus we all no we have been looking at bell and where instreted in getting him on pre contract tell us sumthing we don't no and I think I would wait till I had the lad signed on pre contract before I said anything not the way to conduct good business

Believable12 Unbelievable20

What's the problem with timing? Hardly a bigger story than champs league. Just a reason to have a pop at ally it seems. Again.

Agree8 Disagree5

Last night mccoist was asked "are you interested in cammy bell?". Mccoist replies "yes"

Dont see what the harm is in that?

Agree10 Disagree5

Cammy bell? on the night celtic play in the last 16 of champions league sounds more like the reporter was taking the micky out of mccoist

Agree5 Disagree1

Hey@9. we won tie on well founded away goals rule, decision changed on the night, ref mucked it up. what about Sion for the Sellik then? or did you know that you Sellik beat Benfica in European Cup by the toss of a coin after a 3-3 agg draw? don't think you do, do you?

Agree0 Disagree1

@4 Think your on the wrong thread here anonymous, as for Celtic going through on the toss of a coin that was what happened after a draw were none of the team's scored an awat goal, so don't really see the point your making, as for Sion played unregistered player's, against the rule's as I am sure you will find out soon enough.

I might be going out on a limb here but if the SPL tribunal had found against Rangers and were going to strip titles I think it would have been out today to take away from Celtics bad news. Uncle Peter surely would have it organised for this to be all over the news - timing is everything.
Or are they waiting for the Admin Anniversary and it will hit the papers tomorrow.
What's your thoughts?

Believable13 Unbelievable10

Why do you think Peter lawell is the anti Christ never see this kind of venom toward sdm or even white and those were the ones who put you out of business

Agree19 Disagree17

@1 you class that as " VENOM " Lawell pulls the SFA stings check it out for yourself.

Agree6 Disagree10

@2 but sfa president is ex- rangers man if lawwel was pulling strings in sfa he would tellus. he aint.

we know sdm controlled jabba and who else in sfa?

Agree6 Disagree0

The Lawwell patter is embarrassing you know that. I can admit we Celtic fans like a good conspiracy and get the old paranoid hat on at times but if this last 18 months has taught me anything, you lot are every bit as bad, and to lumber just Celtic with these tags is unbelievable. I have heard some hum dingerd from you lot honestly. Lawwell the Godfather eh

Congratulations to all the Rangers fans on the best result of your season last night.

Believable24 Unbelievable10

Wouldnt say it was our "best", don't forget st. mirren pumping you was up there too!

Agree28 Disagree9

@1: since when was 3-2 a 'pumping'?

Agree11 Disagree21

So who do they blame? the ref has taken it- back to normal, Not NL for picking Ambrose but Ambrose for saying he felt great, play me!
There's just got to be someone to blame - never defeated!

Agree30 Disagree8

When you sit back and watch the 90 mins again!

Agree4 Disagree0

Well 3-2 is as much as a pumping as our 1-0 defeat.

Agree6 Disagree1

@3: Lennon didn't blame the ref. Anyway, would you say he had a good game or should have awarded at least one penalty as all the pundits agreed could very well have been the case?

Many Celtic fans are indeed blaming Lennon for picking Ambrose, so you're also wrong there.

Try again.

(Young team, not much of a pre-season, the opponents were kicking us too hard etc. Ring any bells?)

Agree8 Disagree11

3-2 flattered Celtic that Day Mulgrew was rank rotten & lucky he even got his chance to redeem himself!

Pumpinnnn!

Dundee Utd made us look like a bunch of school boys got to laugh or ul greet its all about the banter!

Hear Hooper & Lichstener are going out for a wee cuppa together today they had great chemistry last night could really turn into something special there lol

Agree14 Disagree0

Naw the 5-0 pumping they will give you in the 2nd leg will be the best result of the season.

Gelato and Jelly anyone

Agree12 Disagree1

St mirren and juventus what a lovely pair

Agree4 Disagree0

@6 a former pro ref on Scotland today said the ref got every decision rite all the jostling happened when ball was out of play soon as the ball became active juve stopped doing it great game plan plus larsson, Sutton, hartson all done it didn't here cell fans complain when they wer winning them pens for playing like that

Agree4 Disagree3

@11: so if a player pushes another player over in the box when the ball's out of play it's OK?

We all know how good Scottish refs are (at talking nonsense).

Agree3 Disagree0

@11 think you have selective memory old bean, What the Ref said he would have warned the Juve player and when he done it again would have booked him, also said the Brown incident would have been treated the same.
Tam

Agree1 Disagree1

You cannot award a penalty when the ball is not in play.
Learn the rules of the game before you come on to a site and spout drivel.
If you watched the game you will see that Hooper was as guilty as anyone at pushing. You were thumped fair and square by an average Italian team.
Paul Belfast

Agree5 Disagree2

@14: who said anything about a penalty being awarded when the ball was out of play. There was pushing etc. when the corner had been taken too, despite what other posters may say. And cards can be shown when the ball is out of play, can they not?

them third divsion training ground facilitys are not that bad after all ehh celtic

Believable37 Unbelievable7

Must've been ally's tactical input eh?

Agree25 Disagree0

Well it wasnt ally or rangers that paid out over 4 million pound for scott brown, ha ha ha, "we just can't laugh enough", we just can't laugh enough"!

Agree22 Disagree8

@2: not a good idea to start on how much has been spent on players when your old club wasted the most of anyone. Yes, all clubs make mistakes in the market but Brown definitely isn't the worst.

Add to that the cash being thrown around in division 3 and it doesn't give you much of a platform to have a go from.

Agree18 Disagree15

Got to be in it to win it. Juventus and Barcelona or Montrose and Annan. Tough choice eh?

Agree18 Disagree17

Not really, montrose and annan, then sit back and laugh at you in CL!

Agree13 Disagree5

@4 the funny thing is use are no longer in it a wee cameo appearance in Turin then it's back to Dundee Aberdeen & Ross County we will get 46000 fans against Annan will use get that with Kilmarnock or the likes coming to Town?

Agree15 Disagree4

To my fellow gers supporters I would have loved to see rangers playing as well as celtic played last night, it was a exellant performance, marred by a few mistakes, there is nothing wrong in being honest and fair, OLD BOB,

Agree12 Disagree14

@4 what a piece of p!sh. How arrogant are you? what a slant against Montrose and Annan, remember Arbroath?
Your club has won the cup, you brag about your finances, your fans, your transfers and yet all you win is the sphell and see reaching the last 16 as a major achievement. Your club plays in euro every year and with all your finances, fans and spin your club under achieves. Is there a trophy for the last 16?

Agree14 Disagree3

@ 4),

We can only play what's in front of us. "Sporting integrity", remember that phrase? The phrase created by Celtic fans as a cover to have Rangers booted into the 3rd division. That's why we're playing Montrose and Annan etc. We'll be back though;).

TTG

Agree15 Disagree5

@4 you ain't in it anymore.

Agree10 Disagree1

Pity its not working too well for the team who train on it daily.

Agree8 Disagree10

Agree9 Disagree3

Poor old Celtic can't take a beating first st mirren then juve lennon playing ambrose was the biggest laugh the man was exhausted

Agree4 Disagree1

@10, there is still another game to play in march, so still in it.

Agree3 Disagree2

@14, you are like a racehorse 2 fences behind, still in the race but with no real chance of doing anything.
