@ 15. Not tainted you fool. We won league cup in 71 and finished fourth. So is that not enough to qualify for europe if not cwc then UEFA cup? So it is not tainted. How many times has champions league not been won by the previous league champs? Is Manchester United 99 tainted? Or Chelsea last season?

Post 3, it took more work to qualify for scottish and league cup finals back then as there were more rounds then than a european cup final!

Doug. when I said you got knocked out of an earlier round ithought you would know your history. the team in question was sporting lisbon. I thought you would know the teams you played on the way to your greatest hour. I know this and i'm a celtic fan who wasnt even born at the time. {The Ed039's Note - The referees didnt know their rulebook, Rangers won the tie on away goals but the referee didnt take that into consideration as it was a new rule, a UEFA official pointed out their mistake after ET, extra time should never have been played in that match at all. I think you should study up on that history you talk about, Rangers were not reinstated, the officials made a very big boo boo)

@19; You had to win the Scottish Cup to qualify for the Cup Winners Cup. League positions did not mean much then, certainly not fourth.

@25. My point being us winning league cup and finishing fourth was enough surely to qualify for UEFA cup.? UEFA would have decided which cup we went into no one else. We couldn't pick and choose which cup we entered. Someone had to play in cwc, it'd the rules. Ok doug my first game for celtic was a victory v hibs. when I researched years later I found out george best played for hibs. my favourite game was a 5-4 victory v falkirk in early 90s. you will be happy to know my first 7 visits to ibrox ended in defeats but I still came back for more. no hard feelings, its a banter page after all.

To all the bears and bearettes, its been a hell of a year, but we have survived, and to all you fans who fill Ibrox every second week, I salute you, You don't do walking away, you have been a credit to your club, and the football world is amazed at your loyalty. let's hope next year we move ahead bigger and better. Rangers, then, now, always.

Jim Traynor must have been in a quandary last night, a man who happily praised Parkhead as the 'best atmosphere in Scotland at European nights' while he was on Radio Scotland.

To be fair the atmosphere wasn't too bad. For the first 3 minutes.

Any fair minded person knows the ref didn't score any goals for juve. But juve were very cute at dead ball situations and didn't allow celtic to play to there strength. Some of the pulling was a bit over the top and action should have been taken to stop it.

@2 You obviously weren't listening---the crowd's singing was deafening in the park and even watching on t. v. which I did when I got home from the game, you could hear it clearly. Despite the score, it was a good night ----how often do you get a chance to watch your club in the last 16 of C. L.?It was all a bonus for us so you can say what you want--it was great run.

@1: to be fair, many players say it's one of the best atmospheres they've played in on European nights.

can anyone please explain why mccoist wanted to comfirm his intrest in bell last night on the night of the celtic v juventus we all no we have been looking at bell and where instreted in getting him on pre contract tell us sumthing we don't no and I think I would wait till I had the lad signed on pre contract before I said anything not the way to conduct good business

@6 a former pro ref on Scotland today said the ref got every decision rite all the jostling happened when ball was out of play soon as the ball became active juve stopped doing it great game plan plus larsson, Sutton, hartson all done it didn't here cell fans complain when they wer winning them pens for playing like that

@11: so if a player pushes another player over in the box when the ball's out of play it's OK?

We all know how good Scottish refs are (at talking nonsense).

@11 think you have selective memory old bean, What the Ref said he would have warned the Juve player and when he done it again would have booked him, also said the Brown incident would have been treated the same.

You cannot award a penalty when the ball is not in play.
Learn the rules of the game before you come on to a site and spout drivel.
If you watched the game you will see that Hooper was as guilty as anyone at pushing. You were thumped fair and square by an average Italian team.

@14: who said anything about a penalty being awarded when the ball was out of play. There was pushing etc. when the corner had been taken too, despite what other posters may say. And cards can be shown when the ball is out of play, can they not?
