I believ rangers startn 11 next year will b MCGREGOR, WHITTAKER, CUELLAR, BARTLEY, PAPAC, ESTEGERRIBIA, DAVIS, EDU/MCCULLOCH, WYLDE, JELAVIC, NAISMITH (alexander, weir, bradfoot, ness, conway, lafferty, tomer) Not to many changes needed to a thin but winning team

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Culler if he signs will be out till sept/oct so ur nearly rite in ur predictions there as in next year! As for Edu starting 11! Are u mad the guy is not good enough and hopefully will be gone by the start of the new season...

That's right my blue nosed friend good to see that one of you lot has some sense once the tax bill gets sorted next month the Goven saviour will get his pennies out that's all wee Sally will have ALL IS VERY QUIET SHHH

Agree2 Disagree0

Whyte will foot the HRMC bill, if the case is lost. Also high end bosmans do not sign for nothing. They will demand huge signing on money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whyte is actually doing the very opposite. If we lose the HMRC case he will make sure he gets all the money he puts into Rangers back and then Rangers will have to pay HMRC. He is protecting his own assets not Rangers. This is a FACT if you read the circular.

Rangers would not and could not afford to buy Charlie Adam now!

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Ur rong there, his quoted price is beleived to be around 8 mill, rangers get 20% of any future transfer.. so wud cost us about 6.5 mill! and hes only on like 10 grand a week! so if ally was willing to blow half his budget! dont think its unrealistic at all!

Agree3 Disagree1

Get real ya roaster! As if he'd come back to Rangers when massive clubs in England are after him! Sick of the trash talk on here!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ya roaster? real mature! the point i was making is that it aint unrealistic, ally does have 12 million to spent! u fudge doenut

Conway (believable)
Wylde (unbelievable)

Believable6 Unbelievable6

Conway is the better player, Wylde is all pace and no skill but I dare say many fans will prefer Wylde because he is young.

Agree3 Disagree2

Why cant we have both???
there both young and would not demand alot in wages!
i would like to have both come the start of the season, along with a new winger in to challenge naismith!weiss would be ideal but thats a no-go!!!

Agree1 Disagree0

Heard tht weiss is wanting to come back to gers so he can get 1st team football

Agree0 Disagree0

Weiss has shown he wants to play for us but it might not come down to him!!!!!

VILLA FAN SPEAKING no one anyone near birmingham has heard anything about mcgregor, villa have no manager and wont be signing anyone. However, mccleish is now the frontrunner for the villa job and it is not impossible that villa will move for mcgregor if mccleish is appointed

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Mcgregor

Whittaker. Cuellar. Bartley. Papac

Naismith. Davis. Frings. Bentley

Jelavic. Hemed

Cuellar 2million
Hemed free
Bentley loan
Bartley loan

I fink this team would do the buisness. I know bentleys wages are high but we would not pay them all plus I fink the left mid is a problem spot for us as wylde is gona be a gr8 player but still alot to learn, this is 1 position I would spend money on.

Any thoughts anybody/ed?

{Ed010's Note -I still have a problem with both Whittaker and Papac at full back. I will concede that they have been good for Rangers but I would prefer to see athletic players as our fullbacks. I answered a similar question earlier this morning when another teamsheet that showed Whittaker and Papac as our full backs and I said at that time, that I would much prefer players, similar to Alan Hutton and Lee Wallace. I am not saying that these must be the two players but merely using them as an example of my opinion.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Ed: totally agree..... 100%

Agree5 Disagree1

Finally, someone else has agreed with a post i mad a while back, Whittaker & Papac are decent fullbacks but i would like to see 2 quick attack minded fullbacks.

Agree2 Disagree0

110% agree i think whittaker plays hot and cold some times hes good sometimes hes rotten but he does get forward, with papac i hink he is hot and cold and when hes hot hes average at best , so 1 footed so nervous on the ball, i would defo be getting in a new left back

Agree0 Disagree1

anybody think ally shud give cuellar the miss and find another decent defender whos gonna be ready from the off? theres a few important qualifiers coming up! incase anyone forgot lol

Believable2 Unbelievable5

I disagree, he has proven himself already and ally knows who he is signing in cuellar.
we will probably bring in another cb in on loan, wilson or bartley, so i don't think the qualifiers should be too much trouble defensively ;)

Agree1 Disagree0

I was only sugesting this as we need as strong as a squad possible to come through ties as we will be up against 2 quality sides in the qualifiers! i just dont see the gain in spending 4 millon a defender if we cant use him in the most important matches of the season! 4 mill my evaluation of cuellar btw lol

Manchester City Rumours

08 Jun 2011 15:59:23
Roque Santa Cruz to Glasgow Rangers - 4 Million

He's probably worth more and probably would demand wages of which we are incapable of providing but it's a rumour none the less. And just shows that folk are talking about it down there as well as murmurings from the Gers faithful

didnt santa cruz sign for blackburn in january ?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Only on loan m8

Agree2 Disagree0

Anybody who watches or listens to Interveiws with the majority of EPL players will know anyone on the wages R.S.Cruz is on won't be ready to take the drop in wages he would need to if he was to sign for the champions. The guy will be on £80k a week from man city and probably be Blackburns top earner next season, possibly £50k. Rangers will sign Hamed I'd imagine and he looks like a good acquisition. The signing of the season for me would be David Bentley, play anywhere across midfield, great with both feet and his dead balls are deadly. Although we would be lookin to pay £20k a week possibly I think he would e well worth it!

"So what if spurs are interested in Jelavic rangers have him tied down on a long contract so dont have to sell him unless they offer silly money! Now if the manky mob reckon kayal is worth 8-10 million which he ain't... Then Jelavic must be worth 15 million plus..

The value of a player is dictated by a number of factors including; initial purchase price, current form, injury history, current contract, (duration and wages) international status, who is interested and what experience of continental competition the player has.
Based on some of theses factors I guestimate that the value of Jelavic (£4m buy)to be in the region of £12m, he is an international, has scored plenty of goals in Europe (Europa league) has at least 3 years remaining on contract and he is in top form courted by Premiership clubs.
As for Kayal (£1.2m purchase)) he has done nothing in Europe (so far) plays for Israel (not the best international side, I know Hemed is Isralian) played well in SPL without being great, is on a paltry contract believed to be around 8K per week so that's why Bolton are bidding £2m! He in my humble opinion is worth double that and could be worth more in future but not now, but £8m pissing my pants that's a cracker!!
gwak1873"
---------------------------------------------------
Gwak - Jelavic has played 12 times for Croatia and scored only 2 goals, against Qatar and Slovakia, hardly rip roaring stuff. He has played club football at Hajduk Split, Zulte Waregem, Rapid Vienna and Rangers, scoring 52 goals in 151 games, hardly the minimum 1 in 2 ratio you'd look for from a top class striker. The only place he has achieved this is at Rangers, and any EPL club considering a bid think the SPL is a mickey mouse league. Indeed, so do UEFA and that is why we are handicapped when assessing Europe's top scorer. Jelavic was also out for a large part of the past season with injury. My view is that Jelavic would command a sale price of around £8m. I also think that if Craig Whyte were to receive such an offer, Rangers would sell.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Jelavic scored a goal every 2 games for rapid so ur stats are BS did u just make them up ?????

typical septic fan

Agree1 Disagree0

Boll@cks to the last comment! He's worth 12 million minimum. The point is if kayal is worth 8 million and in the past mcgeady went for 8-9 million then come on personally I reckon Jelavic is worth more and could and will play at the highest level in the near future....

Agree1 Disagree0

Do you know craig whyte? no ? well how do u know what he would do ya wee tit! kayals worth about 10 ! even i can see that! look at the prices in prem ! jelavic about 15!

Agree0 Disagree0

The value of the player is dictated by how much a club is willing to accept. Simple, not his goals, appearances, injuries. If the price is right the club will sell so I guess Jealvic is worth around £12 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jelavic scored 25 goals in 70 games for Rapid. This is not 1 in 2. Despite the cries of Jelavic being worth £12m - £15m, you guys need to get real. Because he plays in the SPL, English clubs know they don't have to pay these prices and will be able to get him for £8m.

Agree0 Disagree0

The value of players is far more complex than simply what a team will accept, but why the F**k would the Champions accept £8m for a player they bought for £4m when that's all the dosh we had?
We wouldn't sell him for less than £12m as we don't need to sell. The fact that the Premiership clubs have more to spend than ever I feel that is a realistic value. Didn't Gordon and Hutton leave for £8-9m and that was a few years ago and both were signed from SPL taking into account of Inflation that is more than realistic.

My top targets for the summer would be (in no particular order) - Wallace, Kranjcar, Hutton, Cuellar, Wilson, Dos Santos, Frings, Hitzlesperger, Michael Johnson, Bartley. I realise we can't obviously sign all of the above however, god loves a trier!! Hope to god we don't re-sign Miller...mercenary!! Get shot of Whittaker...cost us so many goals and is too slow. Thinks he is Cafu!!! Starting Line Up -

McGregor

Hutton
Cuellar
Wilson
Wallace

Davis
Frings
Ness

Kranjcar
Jelavic
Dos Santos

Wishfull thinking, I kno but I can dream can't I!?

I woudn't have kranjcar in ma team m8, is wallace a left back???, Papac is the most consistente player in our team
Gers till i die

Im not blind mate, just know my stuff and I can assure you Whittaker is a dumplin!! And as for the guy who said Kranjcar wouldnt get in his team, you must be on the glue! Would walk in to any team... in my opinion!!

kranjcar haha who would u put him in the team to replace with naismith out right davis and ness in the middle and wylde out left

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Kranjcar would walk into our team by far a better player than any1 we ave tho we wont get him so i dont know why people are talking about him

Kranjcar is better than all those players u t#t n he'd defo get a game ahead of wylde as that's wer I'd play him anyway altho not a chance of him heading to ibrox!!

Keep hearing this Riordan rumour too, and mainly from Hibs supporting friends in Edinburgh. McCoist likes him and don't be surprised to see him signed on a free in the very near future.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Riordon is to light weight for the gers... thats why the celts got rid!

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jun 2011 18:41:34
I don't think we'll want Riordan but i'd take him in a heartbeat, play him on the left-wing or second striker and he would score free kicks.

WATP

Believable0 Unbelievable3

No he is rubbish

Agree2 Disagree0

Hes not rubbish.... in my opinion was the best prospect in scottish football when celtic signed him and never got his chance.

Agree0 Disagree1

Your right he WAS the best prospect in Scottish football, but he has failed to develop.

Agree0 Disagree0

Miller never got his chance the first time round at Rangers. And look what he ended up doing.Riordan can do the same.If he buckles down to his game, and is serious about it.All he needs to do is grow up more. And listen to the coaches around him.McCoist knows what he is talking about. There is so many strikers, he has coached to play there best football.James McFadden for Scotland is a prime example. He played his best when Ally was the number two.I would take Riordan, cos I trust Ally could get the best out of him.

I don't see what everyone's fascination with foreign players are and filling the team with them, we have a compact squad as it is I think we do need a few players but I think were not far off, we have won 3 in a row and hardly bought any1 so what difference is a flod of foreign blood going to do.

Member you buy loads of players but you can't buy a title!!!

My rangers team

alex mcleish has resigned from his post at birmingham, i presume he is headed for aston villa. do you think this is good news for the cuellar situation or bad news, ed?

{Ed010's Note -Carlos Cuellar's injury and his subsequent rehabilitation will take longer, than when the transfer window actually closes. So in reality, it matters not, which manager will be in place for Aston Villa and any decision on his future, will have to be made on his past performances. In my opinion, Gary McAllister will give his opinions on Cuellar and that will decide whether Villa decide to sell him or take a risk and keep him until his contract expires or sell him in the January transfer window.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Jun 2011 18:24:56
does anyone think that if Mcleish gets the villa job cuellar wont be coming???

Believable2 Unbelievable2

I am a fan of culler a thought he was good at rangers but do you not think Bartley is better he's 19 a think and slotted in well if weir is going to go 1 more season do you not think 19 year old along side weir would be better for future ?

I'm not argueing the point of a return of culler but again you don't know how these defenders are without Davie weir hard one !!

Believable0 Unbelievable2

BS mate utter lies

Agree1 Disagree0

He wouldn't be too desperate if he signed a new deal.

also we will not be signing cueller untill there manager situation is resolved, if Eck becomes the manager i think we will get him if he def wants to leave!

Apperently us getting Bartley depends on wether wenger signs Samba from blackburn (i personally think Bartley is a better defender) but thats the premiership for you just daft!

Been racking my brain trying to think of a midfield player who has a decent mix of defensive and attacking qualities, is young and relatively cheap, but that could be an asset in the future, and I thought of Craig Gardner of Birmingham City. He is far too good a player to be playing in the Championship and I'm sure the lure of Champions League football would be a big draw for him. I'm also sure Barry would have a word or two to sway his decision if we were to declare and interest. He's a cracking player and in my opinion just what we need in midfield to allow Davis more chances to get forward. But he can also nab a goal or two from midfield too and is a threat from set pieces.

With Birmingham being relegated I think a bid of £3million would be enough and would be money well spent.

Any thoughts ed?

Steven.

{Ed010's Note -Steven, every club in the UK wants a player who can do what you suggest and Rangers could do worse than try to sign him but £3m is a substantial chunk of Ally's budget.

marty

{Ed010's Note -Marty, I don't post these "posts", I merely edit/check before uploading them. I have said a zillion times, it is not for me or any of the other Eds, to question the "factual" content of any post. The Football Rumours website was created with the intention of allowing football fans, the opportunity to let other fans become aware of rumours, that they might have heard. The idea is to create light hearted banter between users. Nothing on this website is meant to be taken too seriously, although it sometimes does. With that in mind the post was uploaded for two reasons, (1) it is entirely possible for anyone to be sitting next to or near to a footballer, on a plane and (2) if it wasn't true, the original poster sets him/herself for a bit of target practice. On this occasion, other fans believe the second option to be nearer the truth and have answered accordingly.

I have never heard Ally say that anywhere. In fact I have heard him say in interviews pre Kilmarnock games, talk about how dangerous he is.Eremenko is a class act.Would love to see him come.Take a look at his international scoring record, 17 goals from midfield. He has proved he can cut it in SPL.And has shown it for Finland. So why could he not transform that into the champions league? He is just the kind of of creative player we need. And he will not cost the earth to get him in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was the bloke who posted the comment. And I have just read the article. It is about Eremenko, saying he felt Rangers targeted him for rough house treatment in games. It also says Ally, said he was a good player. But was flattering himself if he thought the Rangers players were trying to do that to him.I do not know were you get, that McCoist does not rate him out of that.Lets see were he ends up.There should be cash in soon, from Adam moving.Lets see if he goes after this guy with it.Or maybe goes for Murray Davidson.Who looks like a right good player to, plus he is Scottish. We could turn him into a quality holding midfielder. But hey opinions are like butt holes, we all have one.

my realistic rangers team
mcgregor
whitts
cuellar
bartley
wallace
naismith
davis
eagles
dos santos
hamed
jelavic

subs, gilks, papac, danny rose, lafferty, wylde.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I think this is a sound team, I posted a while back about Spurs squad and the chance to get a couple players in particular Rose, Giovanni and also Bassong. If we ever sold Greegsy (don't want to happen) I would most certainly go in for Gilks, who I think is a terrific shot stopper. I would prefer to see Fleck than Eagles, he knocked us back before and Fleck needs to be given a sound chance to see that potential he has. Not sure about Wallace starting Papac has been excellent!

Agree0 Disagree0

Feel that rose was fantastic at spurs for the few games he appeared in, gilks would anyday be a good repleasment for mcgregor (hope dosnt leave) and yes fleck was only 17 at the time and he was expected to do great things, now hes 19 ish so another would do him the world of good or at least loan him out.

dont you just hate it when all of the spl players are so under rated and valued at peanuts, yet phil jones valued at 17m and bouggy only at 2-3m but yet both players have the same level of skill.

{Ed010's Note -Interesting observation and one that I wholeheartedly agree with. The problem is exacerbated because the EPL clubs know, that due to the perilous financial state of the Scottish game, most clubs will bite their hands off, if a semi decent offer is made. That can sometimes include Rangers and Celtic.

Proves to say now why scotland only have one place in the champions leauge, due to epl clubs buying rangers players that are good enough for the cl

Agree2 Disagree0

Once again clearly a Celtic fan, wether you think he should or shouldn't sign for Gers what can't be denied is he clearly has talent, his physic and pace looks perfect for SPL and Europe. I had never heard or seen before now and something tells me this lad could be dynamite with Jelavic.

Agree1 Disagree0

He does look like a good player, would set the SPL alight.

Agree1 Disagree0

Im sure if he was so good rangers wouldnt be snappin him up on a freebie

Agree1 Disagree1

He is on a pre contract that it why he is free. And he must be good if two Italian teams want him and the biggest team in Belgium do to.

Agree1 Disagree0

Youtube isn't the best source as it only shows the good bits - it's possible to make any player look brilliant on Youtube: I remember when Kuyt signed for Liverpool, the fans there were really excited because of all the clips of long-range screamers and great volleys he scored for Feyenoord but there haven't been many of them since. There's probably a Youtube video that makes James Beattie look amazing!

ed is there anythig about dorrans or brunt to rangers

{Ed010's Note -As I have posted on another similar question, it is my opinion that any "contracted" EPL midfielder is now out of our reach. With Liverpool paying £22m for Jordan Henderson, every other club will have rasied their value of their players by at least 3-4 million.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A lot of people speculate on our best formation for next season, and here is my opinion on that topic.

I think a 4-3-3 formation, similar to that of Barcelona, would suit us best. For this formation to work you need various things. Firstly, two full backs who are willing to get forward. You also need two centre halves who are relatively comfortable passing the ball short, in a bid to recycle possession. In midfield, you need one player who can operate defensively, doing the so called "dirty" work, breaking things up, retaining possession and releasing the ball to the other two midfielders. These two need to be dynamic, and willing to push forward, but also have a good work rate and the stamina to get up and down the pitch, playing box to box, they also need to be creative and able to play those killer passes. Up top, the centre forward has to be willing to run into channels, as well as take the ball into feet. The men either side of him need to be creative, and willing to run at defenders. It also helps to have players who can play on both flanks, as swapping over during games makes it much more difficult for defenders to pick you up.

If you think back, arguably our best performance last season was against Motherwell at Ibrox when we won 6-0. We played a 4-3-3 that day.

A strong team for this formation in my opinion would be:

McGregor

Whittaker
Cuellar
Bartley
Papac

Davis
McCulloch
Fleck

Naismith
Jelavic
Eagles

Any thoughts on this Ed010?

{Ed010's Note -Do you play "Football Manager" by any chance and if not you should. Your tactics are spot one but having looked at your proposed team, I can't see them doing what you want them to do.

I totally agree that to play 4-4-3, we need full backs who can get forward at every opportunity but for as much as Whittaker and Papac do their best, they don't go forward as often as they should and more importantly, do not get back. Mobility is the key in my opinion and that is why players like Alan Hutton and Lee Wallace, leave Whittaker and Papac standing. I am not saying that these are the players that Ally should be signing but merely showing the difference between ahletic/mobile full backs and what we have at present.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed? a 4 4 3? u know wer only aloud 11 on a pitch? lol

{Ed010's Note -That's why I don't play Football Manager, I can never get to grips with tactics lol

I meant to type 4-3-4 Cheers Ed10

Agree0 Disagree1

Every time someone names a team Bougie is missing, are we assuming he is off? And maybe hard to admit but last half dozen games Lafferty was a stick out.

Agree1 Disagree0

I also agree with the 4-3-3 although my team would be as follows:

McGregor

Wallace
Cuellar
Wilson
Hutton

Davis
Frings
Ness

Kranjcar
Jelavic
Dos Santos

Also, I genuinely think Fleck has something to offer if played in the correct position however, to give him some regular game time and increase his confidence I'd send him out on loan for 6 months.

Cheers

{Ed010's Note -My friend, the 4-4-3 post was an error but when I acknowledged my mistake, I tried to soften the blow as it were, by posting a deliberate erroneous formation of 4-3-4. Perhaps my attempt at dry humour was flawed. Thanks anyway for your post. Cheers Ed10

What do folk think about Nesta from Milan as a potential signing? I know it's a bit mad but hear me out. Wages would be big but he's only being offered 1 year and a wage cut at Milan plus he's available on a bosman so no fee! Only 35 with huge experience. Alongside Bartley that would be braw

Scott The Bear is talking crap. How the hell does he know if Roberto Martinez rates Cuellar or not. And even if he doesn't rate him, it does not follow that he will sign for Rangers. Oh, and using the word "FACT" makes your comments look even more ridiculous.

------------------------------------------------

I know because he has came out and said carlos isnt better than any of the defenders he has at wigan

was in a few papers down there.

ScottTheBear

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Am sorry but thats ridiculous! is this the same martinez that took caldwell who is only half the player cuellar is and stuck him strait into wigans first team? not to mention the other players he pluked from the spl! i think if martinez took over cuellar wud deffo not be coming!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well that all depends on money and what the board think is acceptable as well as they say every player has a price.

but i take your comments on board and would like to express everyone deserves their own opinion but Martinez does rate Caldwell infact even Steven who id say is 10 times worse than Gary and gives both them a starting place so he obviously rates them highly

Just having a look at givemefootball.com , there are a few cracking free agents , John pantsil from fulham , John carew , Isaiah osbourne from Aston villa , Lee bowyer which I think would be a cracking signing works from
Box to box and never pulls out of a tackle and would get in Scott browns face , wage dependant on alot of the free epl players , arsenal have released a few youngsters , am sure they must have a good enough for SPL, Spector from west ham another great player also man city have released a few youngsters , if I were ally I would be making sure I got the best of the free transfers before any1 else , as for south Americans I wouldnt go there , too much of a risk , let's get British players or players that have been based here for a few years , a goal scoring midfielder is a must , would sell Whittaker if we can get Spector ,

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Del Piero available on a free, stick him and big Jelavic up front together!
