Whats the fellow bears thoughts in Alloa narrowing the pitch mid season to olay against us. 9m narrower.

11 Feb 2016 18:58:35
If it's within the laws of the game - crack on. If we did it because we thought it might give us an advantage and it did, I'd be delighted.

They could maybe give us a few more thousand tickets to fill the space they've created.

11 Feb 2016 23:22:30
Ha ha! Like it! 😭.

11 Feb 2016 23:38:05
Don't see it as a big deal a wouldn't be too concerned by it. Myself! if they think that will help them get a result then they got to give it a go they need all the points they can get just now.

12 Feb 2016 05:28:52
The upside is each corner kick will be 15ft nearer the goal and we know we'll get about 15 corners. A good game to cut down the short corner routine and get our centre backs attacking good old fashioned inswingers.

12 Feb 2016 07:32:04
hope this not our manager looking for excuse already
although you imagine with the narrowing of the pitch the midfield will get bogged down
so a wee bet this weekend will be under three goals.

12 Feb 2016 08:17:24
It's typical 3rd world Scottish football, we are already the laughing stock of Europe with the cup draw debacle, it's not alloa issue its the Blazers who don't have a scobby do, the rules are so loose any half wit can exploit them, personally I think it's hilarious. Ohh I know, it's actually " sporting integrity" all together, the cry.

12 Feb 2016 08:30:11
Can't work out what Warburtons problem is . It's not his pitch it has f all to do with him .

11 Feb 2016 21:35:48
Remember sourness doing it against dinamo Kiev, if I remember right it helped us to beat them 2 0 mark falcoa scored one of the goals.

12 Feb 2016 07:19:28
There should be a regulation of 10 yards if this is to be done, oh and they have to keep these dimensions to the end of the season ( lol) .

12 Feb 2016 10:28:32
So many moaners and victim card players on here with short memories.
Anyone want to retract their comments following the post by square route?

12 Feb 2016 11:49:53
I think that them using pitch size change within the rules is well planned.
We did it to suit ourselves to great effect years ago.
I know Warbs is against having a plan B but tactics are crucial in the modern game.
We play wide, Alloa have had the knowledge to lessen the effect. Now we need to figure other things out.
With our wingers playing further infield and less room for full backs to overlap Maybe we move to a 4-4-2 diamond.
Foder
Tav-Kiernan-Wilson-Wallace
Ball
Halliday-Holt
McKay (no.10 role)
Miller-Waggy

A narrower midfield leaves still room for full backs to attack. Ball can shore up when they do.
McKay can try and pick way through the middle and 2 out and out strikers to hit hard through centre.
Also we need to load the box at corners. It is a shorter distance to hit so let's fizz them into the middle.
With McKay and others more central, the free kicks we get should be more dangerous also.

12 Feb 2016 18:01:46
Agree with bluegenius on McKay no.10 role thought he looked a better player in that role than out wide and linked better to notch a fine goal. Holt will get into box wherever he plays anyhow.

11 feb 2016 14:39:05
what are the thoughs on offering new contracts to law, sheilds, bell? think templeton injury record going to make him a defo no no but the other 3?

personally i think law shoudl be a shoe in, and sheilds and bell i would keep if we could negotiate a new lower wage contract for them both, decent squad players for the permiership and know what to expect, think we need a few guys like that for next season, that is why keeping law is a good call also?

thoughts/ opinions?

11 Feb 2016 16:17:44
The problem is, with MW stating on many occasion he likes a lean squad, if its a question of those 3 or 3 better class players sadly bye bye.

11 Feb 2016 16:26:02
I would get shot of every player out of contract and get new players, harsh I know but I think we're going to need a better standard for the premiere league guys.

11 Feb 2016 16:39:09
Personally I think sheils is one of the best signings made by far from super ally. His record in terms of goals/ assists to games is pretty good, especially as he is mainly a bit part player. I still think he has something to offer, assuming he's happy being a squad player.

But I do not think any of the players you mentioned will get a new deal.

11 Feb 2016 18:35:04
Is there any need for Bell? We signed that Polish keeper last month. So surely Bell would be third choice. Get rid.

11 Feb 2016 18:57:00
I also think Shiels is defo worth a new deal. He is a clever footballer who looks as if he could easily play in a number of positions. A very useful utility player imo. And I have a feeling MW thinks the same. I think Clark will go, Shiels will stay, and Law - 50-50.

11 Feb 2016 23:28:52
Nabdy mentioned Clark! Thought it was bell, Shiels n law? I think there will be a few out in the summer, some or most if not all will flourish at another club, as they have with us, but given a run in any team them 3 will do well. I think keep DS, for more in the likes of temps, Clark, law, bell there going to go, not unless they get a run out and produce pure n utter class.

12 Feb 2016 07:41:33
Is Clark ' s contract not up as well? Apologies for mentioning his name if it's not!

11 Feb 2016 15:41:47
I would keep those 3, but Shiels will probably be released.

12 Feb 2016 09:23:07
Only one I think should get a new contract from them 3 is Law. In recent games I've looked at the young lad zalelem from arsenal and thought to myself that law could do what he does and more, I actually think he may feel harshly treated with how little he's played of late considering he's having a not bad season.
Shiels is a good clever player but not good enough for the premier IMO. I don't think MW ever looks at him as a starter so what's the point in giving him a new contract to sit on the bench? we have young players who could fill that better and i'd like to think we will have 4-5 additional players in which will make an even bigger battle for positions.
Also I think with the wages he will be on we could get someone with a bit more quality and someone with a bit more value.
Bell has to go, 3rd choice right now and can't see him ever coming back into the team.
Also Clark should make way aswell.

12 Feb 2016 21:08:04
Keep Law and Shiels and release Bell but don't know why we brought in Gotomski as Bell has been on the bench recently.
Will Gotomski ever feature in the first team.

{Ed039's Note - He was never brought in as first team goalkeeper)

12 Feb 2016 21:34:19
Ed- Bell is now the back up to Foderingham so why bring a keeper in who will sit in the stand most Saturday's.
Hard to understand why we signed him on a 6 month deal.

{Ed039's Note - I believe the plans were to move Bell on during the transfer window but it didn't materialise)

11 Feb 2016 11:59:12
It will be interesting to see how we set up against alloa at the weekend, after they reduced the playing width by 30ft, knowing full well our strengths lay with our wide men and overlapping wingbacks, and if they have any success with this ploy could it set a precedence for other teams we play away, I can fully understand MWs annoyance at this, but I'm sure, thinking away back now did we not adopt the same tactics in Europe.

11 Feb 2016 12:27:13
I think your right sotonbear I'm pretty sure we have reduced the width of ibrox for European games, Alloa are not doing anything wrong all they are doing is trying to gain as much little advantages as possible for the game against us, it's within the rules so it's down to us to make it a waste of time and beat them anyway.

11 Feb 2016 12:55:24
quite right Souness did do it in a European Match, However Warburton has his own opinion on it so we can't really use previous times as an example why it should be okay to do it, I personally think there should be a rule for all clubs on a specific pitch size, that being sad, I doubt it will really help Alloa, hopefully it makes our players take more shots instead of attempting to pass it in the net.

{Ed001's Note - it is now against the rules in Europe and the English Prem. In fact the English Prem have set out a size that all pitches have to conform to.}

11 Feb 2016 13:16:55
Isn't this the reason hearts had to play their champions league qualifiers at murrayfield as their pitch isn't wide enough for champions league standards.

{Ed001's Note - I don't actually know, but that would make sense. It has certainly happened in the past that clubs have had to play home games elsewhere.}

11 Feb 2016 13:21:14
Did we not do it against dynamo Kiev? Nothing really wrong with it, we could make ibrox really wide, just a tactic.

11 feb 2016 14:26:08
they reduced it by 5ft per side, 10 ft in total not 30 ft!

11 feb 2016 14:28:08
and for info the pitch size can be changed once at the turn of the year, and it stays that size till end of season, its not just for the rangers match that they have done this!

11 Feb 2016 14:38:13
Daily rebel saying 5yards either side 30ft by my reckoning or it was when I left school 36 years ago.

11 Feb 2016 17:42:31
We did against Kiev, bout 98, when coisty scored with a header, may even have been his first headed goal for Rangers, a top nite, we changed the dimensions, a show of genius from the Soumaster, a great man,
Tommy.

11 Feb 2016 19:01:19
Is that not when their keeper cocked-up his throw out and it landed at Mark Falco's feet for one of the goals?

11 Feb 2016 20:00:01
Doesn't matter we will still win comfortable they can do what they like to wind up the mighty Rangers we are on our way to
Winning titles again.

11 Feb 2016 20:53:33
Graeme souness narrowed the pitch against the great dynamo kiev who had practically the full russian side in their first team, brilliant memories of that game mccoist and mark falco scored our goals that night in a 2-0 win, although we lost the away game 1-0 a penalty we went through, what an incredible atmosphere at ibrox when we beat them 2-0!

11 Feb 2016 23:42:08
98 it must have been long before that if souness was involved he was away in 91?

11 Feb 2016 21:24:36
1987 it was. One of the best EVER atmospheres I've experienced at Ibrox or anywhere for that matter. And I've been at Hampden Cup Finals with 120 thou plus.
Amazing night, only about 35 thousand there, a full house then.

12 Feb 2016 12:34:38
Apologies guys, i meant to say 1988,not98 ibrox was bouncing
Tommy.

11 Feb 2016 08:36:10
As a member of the rst of many years I do think like big richard (the lionheart) gough said it is better for the 2 main groups to merge together ie. the rst and rangers first, what a supporters organisation that would be and it undoubtedly would be the biggest supporters organisation in british football and for the good of us the fans being constantly kept in the loop with everything our great club does, it certainly brings us closer to the club and its the way it should be, I can think of nobody better than big goughie to be a director on the board of the new supporters organisation what ever we call it, I'll finish off here with a wee debate amongst you all and its a debate I've been constantly involved in over the years, who was the better centre half richard gough or terry butcher? A very hard one I know but imo I would say big goughie just! Over to my fellow bears!

{Ed001's Note - is Gough really a good choice when he is employed by the club? Also he is a good friend of chairman Dave King. So, if the chips are down and he has to take sides in the case of an argument, is he going to back the fans, which he should as a director on a supporters organisation's board, or will he back the club, who are his employers?}

11 Feb 2016 12:28:27
That's a really great point ed.

{Ed001's Note - I know he is a fans favourite, but this is not a popularity contest, it needs to be the right people on the board.}

11 Feb 2016 12:39:17
We all know big gough loves rangers but he's very close to Dave King so in my opinion it would be better to have someone like John brown who we all know would back the fans to the hilt, but it's only my opinion.

{Ed001's Note - good suggestion, it is already plain the fans come first for him, even if he is not the most articulate person. Better to have someone who genuinely cares in this role.}

11 Feb 2016 12:52:34
Agreed ed.

11 feb 2016 14:30:28
gough over butcher as player

brown over gough for rst.

11 Feb 2016 16:31:57
Aye, good point Ed. The last thing Rangers need is another old pals act like Walter and Ally, saying that Gough is a cert to be voted in.

As for Gough v Butcher. Big Terry edges it for me at Rangers and performed better at international level.

11 Feb 2016 10:15:58
I think the guy is wide enough to have considered this (gough I mean) . If he does take on such a role he will have to sever any working ties with Rangers. I understand he has no contract with the Club and is only paid exes for work in an embassadorial role.

11 Feb 2016 12:15:56
to me rangers are moving to far away from the ordinary punter. the list of candidates are all highly qualified, but a long distance away from the norm and richard gough would do a good job, but with his links with d. king and rangers, look at the amount of heartache king gets on this site. straight away there would be cries of fix or or something similar. don't think it would be the best appointment, just my thoughts.

12 Feb 2016 12:42:14
Brown is a Nutter who is almost begging to be re, employed by rangers, he wad be slaughtered by his pals from the east., oh and warbs15 are you writing a romantic novel mate?, this, our great club, and our wonderful former captain business is almost scary, the gushing is getting boring mate
No offence
Tommy.

12 Feb 2016 20:58:38
Gough.
