Another game making them look better than they actually are!
I'm hoping Ojo and Barasic never play for the Famous ever again. Both are no where near good enough and for the life of me I'll never understand why the left back problem hasn't been fully addressed.
Like many bears I'm hurting therefore I'm off to bed in a huff. Here's hoping we've signed a left back and Kent by time I've woken up in the morning.

If Barasic had played Today then maybe you could judge him!

2.) 01 Sep 2019 20:41:27
Barasic didn’t even play ya dafty.

3.) 01 Sep 2019 20:57:01
Why Barisic? He didn't even play. He would have been playing if he hadn't suffered a concussion on Thursday and SG wouldn't risk him.
None of todays team played well and we were beaten by the team that were better on the day and wanted to win!

4.) 01 Sep 2019 20:58:11
We can but hope, but I fear Kent ain't happening. Gerard said in his post match interview he's expecting players to leave but none coming in. Far weaker without Kent and candy man - and it's showing.

5.) 01 Sep 2019 22:34:22
Ojo getting stick is a bit harsh. He came on for the second half and at least had a go. There was a few worse performers today, Defoe for one. But it seems Defoe is exempt from all form of criticism.

6.) 01 Sep 2019 23:22:13
Defoe was offside constantly. Overall your best players were mcgregor and davis. But special Steven was tactically skelped by a superior manager today.

7.) 02 Sep 2019 14:50:09
Barasic He didn’t play but he is good enough for Croatia right enough.

Anybody else concerned with the size and imbalance of the first team squad?

On my last count there's over 30 first team players including loans.
5 goalkeepers
Only 3 centre backs
3 of the 4 full backs are right footed.
11 midfielders
5 left wingers
3 right wingers
3 strikers

Nothing confirmed yet but I've read Dorrans, Laffrety and Grezda's tea's are oot!

Delboy1979

I got absolutely slaughtered on here a few months back and got accused of being a Tim for suggesting we play around 4 or 5 senior players max and fill the rest of the team with the best our academy has to offer.

McCrorie looks to have a solid future at the club. He made a stunning debut at Thistle and was outstanding in his Old Firm debut. Granted he's made a couple of errors here and there but overall he's been a major plus point for us this season.

When Barjonas and Wilson signed contract extensions it made national news but have been given limited time in first team.

Barjonas looks physically stronger than the lightweight Holt and has a range of passes of which Holt simply does not possess.

Interchange Wilson and McCrorie alongside a fit again Alves so they can build up their experience, give Barjonas a chance and replace him for Holt.

Ryan Hardie is the Scotland u21 main striker. Banging in goals for them. So why isn't he been given a chance? He's a big, tall, strong lad who would compliment Morelos' fantastic ability to hold the ball up. Morelos clearly needs a partner up front. I cannot understand why Hardie has had to wait this long for a good run in the first team.

Argubably our best player this season has been young Declan John. Under 21 years of age. Plays without fear. Taken his chance. Far better player than Lee Wallace.

I'm confident there are a few others in the academy who hold their own in the first team.

Let's look at some of competition for a first team place :

Windass
D. Wilson
Hodson
Pena
Herrera
Holt
Tavernier
Dalcio
Miller
Cardoso.

So you want to fill the team with youth players of which you have no idea of their ability. aye. that sounds like a plan!

2.) 25 Nov 2017 11:49:45
I've got to agree with a lot of what you say about academy kids. I've been banging on for a year now to play Hardie. Rossiter is obviously injury-prone but I wish he was fit. I'd start games with Kranjcar who could then be taken off after an hour or so. He is very creative. I agree about Beerman at left back and push John forward. It is a big issue of lots of money but we really need a couple of truly marquee signings. Dorrans and Alves were good signings but they are both injured! I'd offer a good fee for Moult in January then try and sign somebody like Peter Crouch or Jordan Rhodes on a short-term deal. I see Waghorn and Garner both scored for Ipswich last week lol. We should have kept Garner in my opinion.

@Kri55 Warburton's team lost many games last year, the fans remained resolute and didn't walk away so the way I see it we have nothing to lose.

Give me an up and coming youth player over the likes of Pena, Windass and Herrera any day of the week. You can add Wallace into that group as well. Yes he's been a loyal servant but he's spent and way past his best. Candeias has heart and tries his best every time. He has pace but that's all he's got to offer. He tracks back to cover Tavernier as he moves forward to try to beat the opposition's full back and get a cross in. Maybe it's me but is that not Candeias' job? It's a sad state of affairs when a full back has more of a chance to beat a man than the winger in front of him.

Most of the above mentioned can't pass the ball properly either and struggle with the pace of the Scottish game in general.

Every one of those youth players are bursting to get their chance. They've been raised by the club. They know what it means to be a Rangers player. They know the traditions and expectations.

Ross McCorrie was a prime example of that when he came on against Partick Thistle. He organised the back 4 and played without fear. His post match interview said it all. It's worth watching if you haven't seen it already.

I'm not saying we would be the next Manchester United and go and win the Champions League but we would build a team who already know each other having coming up through the ranks and there's no reason why they wouldn't go on to win domestic trophies.

In my opinion a pretty substantial section of the fans still think we could go on lengthy Champions League in the not too distant future which is just pie in the sky. They hang on to the glory days of signing superstars such as Laudrup and Gascoigne. Those days are gone and the sooner the fans realise that the better.

In reality we can't finish above Aberdeen in the league never mind do damage in Europe. Our return to European football this season also highlighted where we are right now - with 3rd rate foreigners!

I would have had every confidence of fielding 7-8 youth team players over 2 legs against a part time team who finished 4th in the Luxembourg league last season.

Blackandredsocks you totally sound like a Celtic fan with that statement a big waffle of total mince yeah let's play a bunch if kids after buying players that ain't as bad as u and some make out they are clicking it takes time and considering that were 3rd and in the first semi we ain't doing to bad a good result Saturday and the rest will be forgotten would kids have did that we will never know kids should have been played few years back to get us thru the leagues we missed a trick get over it support the team or don't bother but your drivel is not worth the time posting or even reading

2.) 21 Sep 2017 08:09:06
, sorry black n red what complete bollocks mate. Your blind if you can't see we have good players. Calves doesn't get 90 odd caps and still continue to be called uo cause he's mince. Pena is still a bit off the pace but any real football person can see he has glimpses n will come. good. cordozo is decent and will only get better. Jury still out on herrera and candias puts crosses into the box for fun. Him and tav link well down the right. Sorry mate but your on the funny fags. i'm all for bringing through youth which PC has been doing but if they ain't good enough, then tough some will, be good enough and some won't.

3.) 21 Sep 2017 10:35:53
God I'm glad I don't live in Blackandresocks world. I tend to agree with Highlager on this, no way is that a Rangers fans post. think he's from another team. we have a better team now than last year. yes we need two or three more added to the squad, but that'll take time and more importantly money which is just not there.

if you look at our team, it's been built on a very small budget that Pedro spent. what, maybe seven or eight mill net after selling players. Celtic have players worth twice or three time our whole team, so forget about the league, it was never going to happen. too soon, we need to finish second. it will be hard as Aberdeen are right with us.

we are not the old Rangers full of multi million pound players, those days are gone. the only way we can move forward is patience. we need to build again in Jan transfer window; a left winger, a striker. look at the defence, we need to get a share issue, raise some money to invest in the team.

Ashley being out of the picture allows that. The kit deal will start to put money into the budget for next season, we are moving forward. I know for some (the glory hunters) it has to be instant success, but at this point Celtic are way ahead. they had years of champions league money, they have a settled team who have played together for a few years now. one or two in during a transfer window, but the heart of the team has remained, that is what we need to get to.

I don't expect much out of the game on Sat. I'm a realist, I'd like to see a good display, fight for everything, but I've supported this team for close to forty years. I seen us through the good times, I've suffered through the bad times and there have been much worse teams than now, but I remain behind the team and manager. be patient it's slowly getting better.

4.) 21 Sep 2017 11:35:05
Well said thinkaboutit. I too am a long standing Gers fan (52 years I think) . You are right, years of accumulating CL money has given them an advantage. If we can get back to win the SPL title within the next couple of years and back into Europe again (hopefully depriving them of any real European money) then we can begin to build solid finances again. I couldn't care less about all this 10-in-a-row nonsense. What would that prove? In the absence of Rangers in the top flight, it just shows how poor Aberdeen, Hearts, et al are that they couldn't mount a challenge. Once Celtic meet real opposition (e. g. PSG, Barca) then they get stuffed. As I've said before, big fish, small pond.

5.) 21 Sep 2017 11:57:31
The youth players need bedding in to the team, and how can you say that tav shouldn't be bombing forward taking on players down the wing?! That's the modern day full back, they attack and defend. I think, signing wise candeias has been one of the better players that we have got in, his crosses are a vast improvement to what we had last year. He uses his pace to try beat players also.

Pena's scored 2 goals, and hasn't really had a full 90 minute game yet, herrera also 2 goals and is showing glimpses he'll be useful to hold up play. And windass is improved already from last season. We have to give these guys time, mexican football is completely different to scottish football.

6.) 21 Sep 2017 14:20:05
7 or 8 youth players. can you name these players? . or as expected are you giving them a game simply because they play for Rangers youths? Have we legalised glue sniffing?!

7.) 21 Sep 2017 16:35:14
Black Andres socks

We should have tried that years ago when we were banished to the 3rd division

Unfortunately Ally was from an era where an old pro was better than a promising youngster, even if he was played out of position.

Mistakes were made but now things have moved on and we need to be competitive in the top league and the fans need to see progress year on year.

20 Sep 2017 21:44:50
Another unconvincing performance against Partick Thistle in the cup with the only highlight being young Ross McCrorrie's impressive debut.

Which gets one thinking?

Why not build a team of youngster from the youth set up i. e. The McCrorrie brothers, Barjonas, Burt, Hardie to name a few.

Squad of 18 players of which 5 are senior players (over 25) max.
Predominately British players (as speaking same language must be a huge advantage)

Manchester United built a team full of youth back in 1992 so it's proven to work.

If they can do it why can't we? We have the best training facility and a good academy.

Ally McCoist had the chance to do it when we were in Division 3 but he didn't. That really annoys me and I doubt we'd be in this position now if he had went ahead with it.

I just don't understand whoever has been the manager in the last 5 or 6 years, why we keep buying sub standard foreigners when we have a well established academy?

1.) 20 Sep 2017 22:26:48
Was really impressed with the boy McRorrie does make you wonder how many other young guys would grab their chance if given it.

2.) 20 Sep 2017 22:41:53
OK and if they start to lose games like feck wll they be given the backing and support. Get a grip.

3.) 20 Sep 2017 23:01:20
I love how the neigh sayers want that I'm sure if someone within the club did it folk would be wanting blood granted mccoist had the chance to do it a bit but he went for over price second rate spl players

4.) 20 Sep 2017 23:03:22
they would get booed off the park like anyone else. we don't have supporters we have glory hunters

5.) 21 Sep 2017 00:57:30
@b&rsocks - like you say we missed that opportunity when Super Ally was in charge after demotion to Div 3. Unfortunately we have fans who can't go week to week with the odd blip, never mind 3 - 4 years whilst a team of youngsters blend together.
P. S. the Man Utd youngsters were also an extremely talented bunch who nearly all came through at the same time.

6.) 21 Sep 2017 00:58:35
You can't win anything with kids.

7.) 21 Sep 2017 00:52:02
Pedro has already opened the door to Hardie, McCrorie, Barjonas, Beerman etc all in the space of a few months. It takes time and patience to do this with kids, and to quote the sublime and unique Class of 92 is a bit much as no other club in British (or maybe even world) football has had such phenomenal success with youngsters. Even United have never got near to replicating that. And their team wasn't 'full of youth' there were good senior pros to help them develop as they joined the first team over a three-year period.

8.) 21 Sep 2017 01:19:41
We should have done this when we got relegated to a division 3 instead of buying short term crap. We would have been reaping the benefits now. Also, there MUST be a left winger somewhere in the youth academy that can actually play the position. We don't actually have a left winger in our whole squad.

9.) 21 Sep 2017 09:28:37
OP:

That ship has sailed.

When the inevitable happened and we ended up in the 4th division, THAT was the time to do that. A team of 17-21 year olds with a few old heads was the way to do it. Instead McCoist paid guys like Daly, Sandaza and Kyle 8 grand a week. A team of youngsters would probably have won that league and then the next one. By the time we were in the Championship they have 80 odd games under their belts and strutting about like peacocks.

Admittedly the right young lads would have had to be available at the time but this didn't appear to have been even considered.

10.) 21 Sep 2017 10:33:02
To be fair to Ally, he did play boys like Hutton, Perry, Mckay, Crawford, Little, Murdoch and with the exception of Mckay they were all rotten and they've all went into the wilderness since.

11.) 21 Sep 2017 10:38:46
If we don't have a left winger then why did we sell/ give away Mckay?

12.) 21 Sep 2017 14:39:52
people seem to forget the likes of aird crawford fleck and quite a few other where given plenty of game time under ally but u can't have a team of just youth players as they wouldn't learn or win often enough.
second rate spl players where good enough to get us through tree devisions with the help of a lot of youngsters look back at the team when we played in the 3rd devision if u are still adamant that we didn't give youth a chance then you should have gone to specsavers.

and we are not manchester united in the 90's its not feasible to have a team of just youth as most in the spl would walk over the top of a youth squad.

i do agree we should maybe bring 1or 2 into the first team like mccorrie and atakiyi and barjonas but use them in the cup games

13.) 21 Sep 2017 22:39:42
Bankie, we sold McKay because he had no heart, was inconsistent beyond belief, had a bad attitude and was sheite more often than not. Simples.

14.) 22 Sep 2017 12:11:20
Likely because he was going to walk for nothing and we can't afford that.

15.) 22 Sep 2017 12:12:56
@bankie - his attitude and form was rank rotten!
P. S. He's been on the bench for Forest as well last couple of games after starting the season well. Sound familiar?
