Not surprised by the result tonight, but it was a good run overall. We can take heart from the fact that we didn't have our best 11 on the park, and it looked like Gerrard gave some fringe players game time - perhaps a last chance to impress, for the likes of Jones. Positives - Helander was magnificent at the back; Patterson has shown that he can become a top player if given more opportunities over the course of the season, and we will be stronger going forward with the new signings coming on board. Big negative was Morelos' contribution, ok it was a tough side and he was a lone striker, but he looked disinterested, and i really hope a deal with Lille has been agreed in principle, or his value will plummet based on his recent performances. Nothing worse than a player involved in tranfer negotiations, who wants away, putting in rubbish displays, it kind of forces the club to accept a lesser fee to just get rid. I didn't notice it myself, but I've read online that Gerrard completely blanked Morelos tonight when he walked past him after being substituted. Maybe I'm being harsh on Morelos, what are the thoughts of others?

Gers1972, think we’re being bit harsh on Morelos tonight, thought he tried but was well played by their big defenders. With exception of Helander and possibly Jack we were beaten by superior team tonight. Good workout and hopefully we learn from. ,

2.) 07 Aug 2020 07:06:37
My thoughts are we will be lucky to get top dollar but he needs to go.

3.) 07 Aug 2020 07:41:56
Gers 1972, the answer is simple, don't play him again if it's that bad, we have 2 new strikers ready to go on Sunday, don't even bench him if his attitude is wrong, this is Rangers FC, NOT, Morelos United, he was worse than rotten last night.

4.) 07 Aug 2020 07:51:55
I have to agree gers_1972. Although I'm an ALFIE fan. It's now looking like goodnight Vienna.

5.) 07 Aug 2020 08:23:00
Why would his value go down because his head had been turned? Morelos himself feels that Rangers went back on a promise in the winter transfer window to let him leave then.

6.) 07 Aug 2020 08:38:11
He was bad and has been since new year, we have been waiting since after Dubai on him kicking on, it’s not going to and I’m pretty confident we will replace his 29 goals by spreading them throughout with a better first 11 when he is gone. We have brought in Roofe who we know is quality and itten who is more of an unknown but he is the physical target we all wanted. I think we will do just fine when/ if he moves on.

Very happy to hear the news that Roofe is very close to signing. The Zungu deal certainly has dragged on, but I hope we can get him in too, to replace Kamara in the starting 11. I don't think we will have Morelos for much longer, I think he will be gone by the end of this month. We will need a strong target man to join Roofe and Defoe. I think, if he remains fit (many people have commented on his frequent injuries), Roofe will lead the line, but offers us versatility as he can be used on the wing, and can support a target man in the mould of Mirko Maric. Defoe will be a useful impact substitute and can fill in for injuries. One great thing about Morelos, is that he never gets injured, despite never shying away from a challenge and getting kicked about by other teams.

Ita cedric itten coming in. 6ft 3.

2.) 04 Aug 2020 15:48:42
Gers 1972, the target man striker we're supposedly signing isn't maric, it's swiss striker cedric itten. Reports stating that big itten is similar in style to what jelavic was and that would definitely do for me. Itten has a better goalscoring record than maric and a couple of years younger 👍.

3.) 04 Aug 2020 18:19:22
Haven't heard much of the Itten boy, but very pleased with the transfer dealings today. Didn't see that coming, the board have backed the manager, which is great to see. No doubt the transfer fee for Morelos will cover the fees and possibly the signing of Zungu. Can't see many more coming in now, but the starting 11 is looking good enough for me. We played Celtic off the park last time we played them and with Hagi already in the door, we will definitely be in a position to stop 10 and bring some overdue success back to the club.

Good afternoon fellow gers (and celtic fans who can't stay away from the most successful club in the world) . I watched the Aberdeen game and, although i give credit to the boys for grinding out a win in what is usually a difficult away fixture for us, i couldn't help but notice similarities to second half of last season: a lot of possession without much product; a lack of ideas against a team that sits deep and frustrates us;and Morelos being kept quiet most of the game. I'm confident we will bang the goals in over the next two home games, but SG (who i do trust and who knows far more than me about the game) needs the board's backing to get a few more players in the door. An old-school target man, to compliment a pacey striker - Mccoist and Hateley come to mind. Take 17M for Morelos, get in Zungu, Maric and Toney or Roofe, and stil have some cash leftover for the end of season staff party (: Be interesting to find out what strikers will come in, so many names in the hat.

If he adapted his tactics and went for a TM in a 2 up top we'd have no problem scoring against teams that park the bus. Its so obvious. 👍.

2.) 03 Aug 2020 12:57:35
Should havs brought barker on and played wider when they went down to 10.

3.) 03 Aug 2020 13:11:08
Yeah coldo i can't help but think gerrard has not learned anything from last seasons glaringly obvious mistakes.

4.) 03 Aug 2020 13:38:57
Jamie Murphy on the left and Kent on the right is the way to go for me, feel like Hagi was pretty ineffective on Saturday I think if he played a little deeper along side jack he’d have more time on the ball and maybe find that killer pass.

5.) 03 Aug 2020 13:43:32
There will be no money for many if you try and sign Toney. He’ll go for North of 12 Million minimum.

6.) 03 Aug 2020 13:49:36
I wouldn't say he was ineffective highland, I thought he tried too hard to be too clever. I know paul, his stubborness will be his downfall I feel. Hope I'm wrong🤷‍♂️. I do think we need another winger so we can play wide for a TM. 👍.

7.) 03 Aug 2020 14:13:04
Kent and hagi don’t play wife they tuck in nearer fredo because they want space for the full backs and am not saying one way is right and another wrong but that’s how SG wants to play and up until now he has been stubborn on changing tactics/ formation.

8.) 03 Aug 2020 14:19:46
Martin Boyle would be a good signing, we need a right winger!

9.) 03 Aug 2020 14:27:20
Coldo u assume target man will win the high balls. Seldom the case.

10.) 03 Aug 2020 14:29:21
Can't see toney going for that amount mac1591!North of £12million?
No danger in my eyes anyway. I reckon around £7-£8million up front and maybe £2million in add ons max mate.

11.) 03 Aug 2020 14:34:26
I've asked this before. If we go 2 up front, who from midfield do we drop?
The obvious one would be kamara.

12.) 03 Aug 2020 14:51:15
Wide not wife that’s meant to be lol fat fingers.

13.) 03 Aug 2020 14:53:01
mr Grumpy

I don’t think he would drop kamara as he is more of a dm.

If and it’s a big IF SG plays 2 up too then he would have 2 DMs playing in my opinion.

Tho I can’t see him playing 2 upfront much if ever.

14.) 03 Aug 2020 15:11:39
An Aberdeen game we completely dominated! Just to put some on here's new found love for the celtic result? Rangers beat Hamilton 1-4 in February! 3-1 in December if I remember rightly, A Hamilton team that finished second bottom of the league, and we beat the team away that finished a point off 3rd!

15.) 03 Aug 2020 15:35:25
Barrowlad they also beat us at ibrox effectively finishing are season off. New season, let's hope the gaffer has learned from his mistakes.

16.) 03 Aug 2020 15:38:35
Nonsense John that's the whole purpose of target man if he can't win the ball in the air then he isn't much of a target man🤦‍♂️. Jelavic miller for example very rarely failed to break teams down and score. No it wouldn't grumpy it would be aribo. Jack and kamara would be holding in midfield. 👍.

17.) 03 Aug 2020 18:04:38
Tell me coldo a good target man we could sign.

18.) 03 Aug 2020 18:05:49
Agree re Aribo or Hagi to make way.
Not kamara. Mr grumpy.

19.) 03 Aug 2020 20:23:19
Brentford apparently agreed a fee of 5m for toney, so why would he go for more than 12?

I think that should Morelos leave, which I'm certain he will do soon, then with Defoe, Stewart, Itten and Roofe all senior strikers, we don't need any further strikers in the door. Roofe is a good replacement for Morelos, although he isn't as strong, but Itten provides us with that dynamic and i can see us changing it up occasionally and using bith him and Roofe up top. Then we have Defoe as an impact substitute, to cover for injuries and to help the others to develop. Then we have Stewart to carry the water bottles, Ok a bit harsh, i meant that he provides us with squad depth. Another striker is a waste of a wage. I think a solid midfielder, like Zungu, to break up play and who can play a pass, is what we need and i think we're sorted. I think patterson deserves to be back up for Tavernier, i think he's a player, and would rather see him get chances than a wage being wasted on a fringe man like last season.

I'd bench Morelos, he doesn't look interested anymore, chasing the bigger pay packet and the spotlight as usual. Don't get me wrong, he is an outstanding player and a proven finisher on his day, but he is not a team player and he undermines the manager too often. I think Gerrard has made too many exceptions for Morelos, and it will be bad for team morale. Roofe and Itten sound like they have their head screwed on, and will pay far more respect to SG, which is how it should be. Both will bring qualities to the team which we have been missing. Itten will score more goals on Sunday than Morelos has managed since the start of the year. Morelos is forcing Rangers hand; keep a player who doesn't want to be there, who isn't playing to his usual standards, and who will undoubtedly be affecting the morale of the team, or take a reduced fee which Lille have offered to get rid and salvage what value remains? Then you get the type of player who remians committed to the team, no matter what, proves the value the club have given him, forcing other teams to bid what is asked before another team beats them to the signature.

Yeh Morelos will be on the bench, to prevent his value plummeting any further due to his recent displays, and to protect the millions the club hope to get for him. Itten scored a hatrick in his last club match and will be fitter than Roofe, who is still building up match fitness. I think Itten will prove to be a steal at 2.5m (if reported value is true) . He's still young, recently got into his national team, and looks physically strong and a natural finisher in the air and on the ground. Admittedly, i had never heard of him until we signed him, but i think he will prove to be a great bit of business. Roofe can play wide or striker, so good versatility for mixing things up. Feeling confident that this can be the year. Looking forward to the squad bouncing about with the league trophy, what a day that would be!
