Simple question.

Is Tavernier given enough credit as club captain and as a player?

Not a loaded question; genuinely curious as to what others think.

I still find myself questioning his mental toughness but i'm measuring him against past captains such as Greig, Gough, Butcher, Ferguson etc and i know that's unfair as different types and eras.

Football players are different now, those types of captains are few and far between in the modern game. His numbers are irreplaceable and ofcourse when you are so much of an asset going forward, you require others to aid you defensively. We are only just managing to combine all that together now when we have Jack and lundstram playing to cover. could be doing with finding that perfect right sided forward to compliment him aswell.

Both steven gerrard and now gio have made and stated how good a leader and captain tav is within our dressing room and that says it all for meGerrard made tav captain and was an outstanding captain himself and knows what it takes When gio came in he kept tav as his captain and look at the captain's he's played under Like i said says it all that these two think tav is a terrific captain.

Tav could walk into most teams in epl other than say city chelsea liverpool …. Maybe not Leicester
He’s be first pick at spurs Man Utd arsenal West Ham villa Everton amd so on
We’re lucky to have him he’s a top drawer player who seems to have improved dramatically defensively under gio.

Tav leads with goals energy and drive. He is an excellent example to everyone at the club. Great captain.

I have been one of his biggest critics on here but I am turning as what he has done probably not just the last two years but especially two years he has been outstanding.

StevieG1 you obviously don’t watch a lot of premiership games if you think he’d walk into those teams and one of them is managed by our former boss who hasn’t come in for him so that alone tells you a lot.

I don’t think he walks into the the majority of epl teams too 6/ 7 nope and the bottom 6 want defenders not attacking full backs IMO.

He makes to many mistakes for a defender and those mistakes are usually costly to us. Good going forward. And I don't get why he is always on corners and free kicks 9/ 10 are over hit or hits the 1st man. Fit as any defender iv seen and always gives 100%. That's my take on him.

The professionals who know football have always rated Tav even though in the past he has had a few mistakes in him (which defender doesn't? ) .

Much of the criticism was directed at his positioning but if the game plan is to have Tav forward of half-way and a midfielder filling in it's hardly Tav's fault if the midfielder does not cover.

It's easy to criticise a player or write him off but where would we be if supporters had their way? No Tav or Goldson, no Morelos, no Bassey - in other words, no 55!

I've always said let the manager make the decisions (assuming we are moving forward) and let the supporters support.

Ok guys. We are talking about our club captain here, lost the league by 4 points, due to draws, Lost 3 games out of last 76 league games, got beat on penalties in major European final, won Scottish cup. Top scorer in Europa cup, etc, etc, Tav is doing the job he trusted with imho. So my question is if not Tav who would you give the armband too! And why.
