Paul I'm pretty sure the way it works is that if you win the group stage you go straight into the last 16 so 8 group winners and the other 8 places are decided by the 2nd place in the group play the 8 teams who finished 3rd in the champions league.
Exact same way for the conference league. The losers of the last 32 playoffs drop out of all competitions.

If you are 2nd in the group you progress to the next round of europa if you get beat in that round you are out nd if you finish 3rd in the group you go into the conference league knockout stages.

I don't think that's right Paul as the loser of the match between 2nd place and the 3rd placed champions league team go out of all competitions.
Same for the conference league just say Rangers finish 3rd then we would play the team who finished 2nd in the conference and only the winner of that game progresses.

Just read up on this 3 cheers. you are right which is a weird one. in many ways to potentially do better and make more money in europe you want to finish 3rd and not 2nd if you are to draw a strong drop out from champions league finishing 2nd.

It's a strange one because if you win the group then you play a game less as you go straight into the last 16.
As long as we finish 2nd or 3rd then at least your playing after Xmas and the prize money is still pretty good in the conference league if we end up playing in that.

Ffs uefa have made a rip roaring Kant of these comps now turning them into a joke the 3rd comp should have brought the cup winners cup back straight knockout comp.
Uefa were banging on about European super league all about money when fifa and uefa are the same all they care about is money.

European football needs a full reset and start from scratch.
