Arfield would be classed as Canadian but because he came through the youth system at Falkirk he would fit the criterion of one of the 4 places for players trained in another Scottish club.

Clubs have no obligation to put a certain number of homegrown players on the field of play, or on the matchsheet. They are entirely free in their team and matchday squad selection.

UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the age of 15 and 21. Up to half of the locally-trained players must be from the club itself, with the others being either from the club itself or from other clubs in the same association.

Regardless of nationality its classed as assossiated trained players. ie teams from within your own country or homegrown youth trained players from within your youth set up. take Billy gilmour for instance, he's classed as home grown at Chelsea as he joined the youth set up at Chelsea even tho he's Scottish so its homegrown within your youth set up or from assossiated teams from your own countrys youth set up.
