Just seen Frank Worthington has passed away, What a player he was, absolutely fantastic and very much on a par with George Best Glen Hoddle and Matt LeTiss, imo, a wonderful talent, his greatest goals are incredible to watch again, a throwback to real English football, loved him playing.

Fantastic player, I met him at a services on the M62 in 1982 when he was with Leeds United, he took the time to talk with me, he was a real genuine down to earth guy and an absolute gentleman, RIP Frank Worthington.

Great player.
Played the game off the cuff.
Very much of the seventies where football was more free flowing and a lot less tactical than it is nowadays.

Aye ok mate

I forgot worthington had actually signed for Liverpool before they failed his med on high blood pressure, did you know that Ed?

A fantastic footballer with incredible gift, and as down to earth as you could find, and imo, a match for anyone.

{Ed001's Note - he didn't sign, he had agreed a deal with Shankly, failed the medical due to high blood pressure and Shanks told him to have a holiday to relax and they would do the medical again when he came back. He went off on a boozy trip to Majorca (I think - it was defo somewhere like that) with George Best and came back with an even higher blood pressure! Those two were characters that's for sure.}

You will know more than me Ed, but there are pictures of frank signing with Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley at annfield, maybe those pics were staged but they’re definitely out there,

{Ed001's Note - yeah he was there for the medical. The signing pictures are usually (if not always) staged, because they don't actually sign the contract in front of cameras etc in case it captures details within them.} Become a Patron!

Can’t understand why a week in Majorca with George Best would interfere in your blood pressure, , a complete mystery.

{Ed001's Note - my uncle represented Best for a while, later in life, even then he was capable of raising your blood pressure. But that was just trying to make sure he got to any of his engagements!}

Frank worthington was a natural gifted footballer, just like paul gascoigne and george best were, ie total mavericks and characters we don't see much in the game anymore.
There's one thing evident, as there's not many footballers from these shores today, any where near the talented best, gascoigne and worthington 👌Was worthington not described by some as the poor man's george best 🤔I'm positive he was 🤔.

Would that be professional engagements Ed, or the other kind?

{Ed001's Note - professional ones.}

Nice piece on Frank's career on BBC site now.

I had a most memorable night out in Sutton Coldfield with big Frank and Willie Johnston. Never spent a penny and was absolutely wrecked. He was the life and soul and everybody wanted to talk to him. He had a great presence about him but had a lot of time for the punters.
