Below, This is in the daily mirror today regarding Stevie G and Newcastle.
regardless of the link, reckon this is his last season at Rangers anyway.

Quote:
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is also being considered with the Liverpool legend expected to make this season his last in Scotland.

Thoughts?

SG is going to leave at some point but if we win the league this season we are straight in champs league and he will want to have a go with rangers I think depending on what happens this season we will have him for one more season after this.

think Newcastle will go for an elite manager top top one like Conti.

If he gives the club notice and we find a decent replacement early enough it might be ok. 2 years left in his contract for Newcastle to buy out. But if he leaves we will have to offer someone money to spend after the loses we've made not sure that'll happen. Not sure anyone of note would want to come to us on a shoestring.

Just made up stories as usual from the rags.

The more we bite, the more they make up.

Gerrard is a top man but he’s not all that as a manager! 1 trophy in 3 years, ok some decent European results but by contrast Alex macleash won 7 trophies including a treble and last 16 in the champions league in his first 3 years and we got rid of him! If Gerrard leaves I’ll be grateful for the memories and wish him luck but I’d be more grateful if he took some players with him for real big money! Not sure who I would get to replace him but I don’t think he’s that hard to replace. Only my opinion 🤷🏽‍♂️.

McLeish played big Marv up front in Europe, he was brutal in those games and in interviews.

I rated and loved by red mcleish but to be fair HighlandBear81,he didn't have the mess that gerrard had coming into the job did he 🤔.

SGL you’re right he inherited a better squad than Gerrard but I could be wrong here but I’m pretty sure big eck spent negative £8m meaning that he sold most of the better players and replaced them with free or very cheap replacements, Gerrard despite his moaning has spent a fair few quid given our current situation. And the Celtic team back then was miles and miles better than they are now! I don’t want to slag SG off I like the man it’s just in my opinion in the advent that he leave he’s not going to be that hard to replace!

Livibear I don’t care about interviews it’s all about the football for me and the fact he was forced to play Marvin Andrews upfront says to me that he’s achieved what he did with a threadbare squad.

I think if he gets us to the CL, he will take it as job done,
He won't want to go into the CL unless the club spend BIG, as a lot of the current squad will gave been here 3 or 4 years (if we still have trouble offloading) . And we won't have the fire power for the CL.
IF we get the CL place he might MIGHT get a call from a bigger ££££ club with more money to burn, as the English clubs try and compete with Newcastle and co.

I don't think there is a comparison there, Alex was there when we were downsizing but we were already a competitive team.

Steven has built us up from top end of the table team to champions and brought some pride back to our European record.

In fairness he's done that on a relatively low budget as well.

I don't want him to leave but also realistic that Newcastle could offer something we can't.

But I don't think that it would happen until at least the transfer window. I think it could be suicidal for someone to take over now if they don't turn around the results.

Big eck got us to last 15 CL on shoe string budget. SG will never manage this.

Other thing to consider is that this was Gerrards first managers job whereas McLean had been doing well for 6 or so years before he came to us. Gerrard is still learning.

What Big Eck achieved was a different world! The two are not compatible.

SG and the team have built Rangers from the back to the front. When SG goes there needs to be a real game plan that keeps this model going forward. For me Beale should be offered the job, which would also go some way to keeping the structure.

#56.

Big Eck won a treble against the Celtic team from Seville. Probably the best Celtic team in 40 years and we did the domestic treble that year. That's pretty good going.

The one benefit that McLeish had was top quality players something that Gerrard didn't inherit. No taking it away from him, McLeish did an excellent job but for Gerrard to continue to dominate Scottish Football we need to be able to trade players, selling on those that have outlived their time at Rangers and bringing in new quality players. So far that has not happened and the quality of player signed since Wilsons arrival is questionable at best.
