I see we're being linked with former man utd and now current blackburn rovers midfielder joe rothwell this morning 🤔I've seen him on occasions but TBH don't know a lot about the guy 🤔 What's others thoughts on the possibility of us signing rothwell in january 🤔.

I'm not keen on this signing policy of signing players from English lower leagues. How many have actually been a success?

My thoughts are this for what they are worth coops.

I'm reading it's another pre contract. Now I'm not against those as you can get some absolute belters, but we seem to be filling our team with these type of signings. And, after the last raft of them, I don't feel the first eleven team has been improved significantly.

We were tracking Veerman, knew the price but as Keevans put it, had an involuntary bowel movement and baulked at it.

He was a signing that would have most certainly improved our first eleven, but here we are again, possibly getting a belter for nowt, and possibly getting another mediocre player for nowt.

I know we have constraints on finances hence the freebie, but you asked for my thoughts, and they are them.

Will I get right behind him and support whatever SG et al decide, of course I will. And I hope he turns out to be an absolute belter.

Every fan likes to see a big money exciting signing but the fact is we have to shop within our means. I would have loved Veerman to sign but after not qualifying for the CL and probably more importantly in my view not selling an asset we have to cut our cloth accordingly. The club has stated our policy is to sell to support our business model so why was nobody sold? It can only be that there weren't the offers we were expecting or SG recommended to Wilson and the board that we hold on to everyone. Either way something isn't joining up at the moment.

Talking about free transfers though I recall somebody mentioning Dundee Utds Jeando Fuchs is available for free in the summer. To be honest I hadn't paid much attention to this guy but since someone mentioned him I have watched him a couple of times and he is a quality player. He knows the league which means he won't need as much time to adapt his playing style. This is one I would like to see happen if we are interested.

2blue laughing is important, don’t know the guy but if he improves us I’m for it, it’s not someone i'd be keen on as I’m not sure he improves us in the big games.

If he improves the team yes sign him if he doesn’t don’t bother as we have enough mediocre players.

How do you know if a player improves the team until they play in the team?

The main problem people have that come up from England as a manager in Scotland they automatically think that if a player comes from England he is better than we have. Steve Davis from Southampton but he was one of our own. Tav is the best but he came up from the championship with us Kent is the best of the ones from England Gerrard brought in but his form is up and down. Aribo all over the place then brilliant. Kamara first team player at Dundee first, goldson one good season bombscare before and seems to be back to that. Simpson, ojo, ojaria, Barker are nowhere near rangers quality. Jack, arfield, Wright, McGregor have all proved more reliable. Even with Alfredo we've brought in roofe and Defoe from England and itten and sakala but none of them could lace his boots. We need to stop looking at the English lower leagues as we want players for Europe. Understandably if the player is young then by all means go for it but over 23 then I don't think so over 25 forget it they won't be rangers class. Let Kelly get some game time.

John I'm sure you have been around long enough to know that players can excel in one league and be dross in another. Sometimes you just need to take chances on players.

That’s good then OT and we can end up with another player like barker then.

We don’t need any more squad fillers. Any signing should be an improvement on our starting XI. We need to clear out a good few in Jan and free up some cash.

We are signing bang average hoping we can develop to play better, its not happing at the moment.

defo need to clear out.

suppose this is our level unless we can sell on for big bucks. that also isn't happening .

Some Blackburn supporters saying his potential and ability is frightening but he's too inconsistent and maybe doesn't have the right attitude towards improving himself.

@LiviBear - I think part of the problem with Aribo is he doesn't get a consistent run in one position and he's maybe a victim of his perceived versatility. Personally I don't like him in midfield as I think he lacks defensive awareness. However I think he has huge potential and looks a threat in a front 3.

Regardless, we will make a profit on it when premiership teams undoubtedly come calling. That's our business model now and it won't work every time. But that, supported by the academy improvements and player sales will see us improve over time.

Rodwell was seen as a player with potential when at Man U., but for whatever reason it all went wrong for him and he ended up at Blackburn. I am sure that there are some quality young players that would make a difference to our Team currently playing in England but equally I suspect that the majority of them will cost money just as Kent did, or if they are at the end of contract then there will be a number of EPL sides after them. Add to that, there are players of significant quality coming to the end of their contracts in Europe that we could sign on precontract agreements. It is up to Wilson to show his worth by bringing that quality of player to the club. He is also reputed to be able to sell players on at a significant profit, let's see that happen with one or two of our players if needs be.
