SG was disappointed we let the boy Bates get away to Hamburg. He rated his potential as a no nonsense CB and would have been happy for him to have remained as squad member and backup. Apparently McLeish gave Bates a good review.

I believe Bates would of came good under Gerrard, he showed good potential at times. I think Rangers should have done more to keep him. Apparently he's doing really well.

Sorry to see Batesy go but it was his decision at the time and going by the posts he got on here. he was a bit of a bomb scare at times . brilliant too but awful at times too

Bates simply didn't want to be a Rangers player any more, so however well or otherwise he is doing, whatever nonsense we believe that SG was 'disappointed' he left, the truth is it has nothing to do with Rangers. He's gone, he's nothing to us.

Agree with the last two posts - he chose to ditch us and we got no cash for him after he rejected a new deal into the bargain. He's not one of us and can stay well away.

I can't understand why people are bitter about a player leaving. We signed him for practically nothing and tried to develop him. We waited until the last minute to offer him a new deal and at the end of the day he exercised his right to see what else was out there and ultimately moved on. He owed us nothing so can't understand the distain.
If our club's hierarchy wanted him to stay they would have offered him a better deal and one earlier than they did.
I hope the lad goes on to have a good career and you never know he might come back a better player.
Would rather him than the rats that's for sure!
