With us now having in place, the DOF structure, i honestly now think, that with the coaches we now have within auchenhowie, that our future manager's will be appointed from within!

Liverpool successfully appointed their manager's from within, in the 70's and 80's! This brings me on to my main debate/ topic, i'd like to throw out there, to all fellow bears! What do you think of the chances of kevin thomson, becoming the rangers manager, a few years down the line?

I myself, think KT has a very good, realistic chance, of becoming our manager, especially under our model structure, of having a DOF! Just the way it has fallen into place and worked for our current manager, graeme murty! I truly think kevin thomson, has all the attributes required, to work under this structure and become the rangers manager/ head coach!

He's already held in high regard as a coach, allbeit with the young kids! Under this DOF structure, it would make a lot of sense, to promote from within, as the likes of KT, would know the full club, structure,
model and players, all the way from the very young kids, to the first team! If he's a good enough coach, why not!

I like KT. a lot, think its a fantastic appointment with all the work he has done with his own youth academy, certainly do think he's got what it takes

11 Jan 2018 08:24:31
Why did you pick KT. He's not even took a session yet with the under 13's and you have got him a future manager. What about all the other youth coaches that have been doing this for years? Billy Kirkwood for example. What about our Captain who trains a senior team in his spare time! Not saying KT won't go on to be a top man but he has just started and think you may be jumping the gun a little early.

11 Jan 2018 08:45:51
I think it would be a great system to train future coaches and managers with the youth teams and promote them accordingly to more senior positions and eventually the best of these coaches will become assistant manager then manager in theory it is an excellent system

11 Jan 2018 09:22:35
great intention agbroxi, but unless there is a change in ownership, it will never happen.
The opportunity to re-write the whole club structure and do exactly as you suggest was there in 2012 when it all went pear-shaped.
Build from youth and take the hits. Maybe accept that promotion would take a wee bit longer. But, once at the top, the system would be established with future players/ sell-ons coming through. But, the chance was lost as they old guard carried-on as usual. (3 of them are still running the show and showing why 2012 happened)

11 Jan 2018 10:22:21
I think we missed a trick to do this when we first came up or in the first division the board neglected the coaches abd scouting side where that should have been priorty.
it would be good to promote withing but come the summer i can see david king sanction another spending spree and possibley manager change unless murty has a great second half to the season.
king business plan from day one has been to get in the champions leauge to make the club stable.
When really it should been invest in the infrastructure scouts coaches and young players with potenial and sell them on and aim for the europa leauge group stage that would a more acheivable business plan.

KT has been coaching for about a year. Calm down.

We need to stop with this 'highly rated' nonsense as well. Rated by who? Nobody knows

11 Jan 2018 11:58:47
KT has only recently started coaching, plus he was always injured when he was at Rangers, so i don't really get the excitement i'm afraid. Seems like a good guy though

11 Jan 2018 12:43:54
How does him being injured a lot as a player affect his ability as a coach? Some of this patter is laughable. Completely agree it’s too soon for KT, nobody knows what kind of coach he is yet probably the guy himself, jumped the gun again here. Everyone is talking about future managers and coaches let’s get behind the one we have now!

I understand the point you are trying to make supercoop but come on, I think our new U13s coach has a long long way to go

11 Jan 2018 17:57:16
I think that rangers should promote within up to u21's and then at that point they should let coaches go out and prove themselves at the top level. Then if successful bring them back home again where they would obviously know the club but would also have experience of managing a club successfully. Otherwise would be too high risk.

11 Jan 2018 20:38:12
Like others I agree with the principle you are promoting, Supercooper but whether Kevin Thomson has what it takes to be Rangers manager one day it's way too soon to say. I recently listened to him talking to Davie Edgar on the Heart and Hand Podcast and he sounds like a very decent, dedicated, hard working guy and as Murty said he never expected to be Rangers manager so I suppose you never know.

12 Jan 2018 00:39:25
The next few years would have to be a complete failure, otherwise why would we change managers for KT?

12 Jan 2018 00:57:20
Spot on Dunbar. Coop what is your over obsession all about with KT lol. I do get what your saying about the system, but he's had no experienece yet so how can you say this based on his attributes. Fair enough if you think he's a top bloke but come on a bit premature?

12 Jan 2018 01:02:03
Good post Supercoop and certainly a long term vision and operating model worthy of further consideration. I also like KT and as a pundit he has certainly been balanced in his comments about the club. Let’s see how he shapes up with the young lads over the next 24 months.

12 Jan 2018 01:03:31
I will be shocked if Kevin Thompson gets the nod. Just got a coaching role and you think he's going to be head coach. Makes no sense. He's running his own academy and will be doing this part time. Down the line maybe but would be another cathro just now.

12 Jan 2018 01:13:08
supercooper

murty will be the new manager - we cannot attract anyone else suitable based on funds on offer

12 Jan 2018 01:15:28
Yip, I don't think being injured as a coach/ manager is so much of a problem! !

I like the idea of this model! It would be great to see it implemented properly

12 Jan 2018 01:17:47
This director of football nonsense is a waste of a good wage and in the long run isn’t going to work because he is getting involved in the managers job which shouldn’t be happening and is one of main reasons we didn’t get our first choice manager because after Mark Allen saying that if the manager wants to sign a player but he thinks there is a guy in the academy who he feels in 18 months time will be able to play in the first team then that’s the route we will be going down. That’s not his job to decide which guys from the academy go into the first team squad, it’s the managers job and it’s not going to work out having this setup.
