Just heard from my source that rangers are back in the race for Mariappa, and going to offer more money than before, he could choice money over titles if he decides to sign for hull but would win a lot more at us, wait and see.

I will take both Marriapa and Senders. The thought of us going into our first old form game with Wilson and Kiernan at the centre of our defence when we play a decent SPL side fills me with dread! .
Senders can read the game and will put his body on the line for the team, Marriapa is quick; neither of our current centre backs have speed, neither of them can tackle or head the ball and their reading of the game is questionable.

The guy has been dogged by fitness issues for the last few season. Ignoring that he has been awful for even longer. He's more likely to hogg the treatment table than make any impact on pitch.
We need to improve the defence, not sign someone for the sake of it.

Senderos would be a step up from the current CBs we have but not by much.
If his fitness is the same as Lescott or worse, then why are we signing him?
Have a feeling that if we were going to invest in a quality defender we'd have done so by now. Then again had the same feeling about CF, and we signed Garner, so who knows.

Even Bob Malcolm would be an improvement on our current two centre backs. As for just coming up from the Championship and sitting top of the league, so far we have played against nothing; three teams that will inevitably be bottom six and we haven't exactly set the heather alight in any of them. What is more, we are Rangers, we were wrongly put down to the lowest league and we should expect to return as a team that can compete for the league. Right now the team looks to have a pretty good quality midfield and with the recent signing we have a decent attack.
Unfortunately our defence is our weak link and while we have given ourselves some decent cover at full back we have three very poor central midfield players and I really doubt we can expect to see any major improvement in either Kiernan or Hill. All reports suggest that Mariappa would be a significant improvement and we certainly need this quality. I have to believe that Senders would be an improvement on what we have, as would Lescott and I am disappointed that Warburton and Weir have not looked in Europe where there must quite simply be some decent quality defenders that would make a difference to our team.

Tom42, I actually played against bob malcom not long ago, have to say he could put a pass on a ten pence, I slated him as a player until I got my eyes opened.
On the mariappa front, would love him but we have put the ball in his court now as he knows we were willing to offer lescott big money

ScottyGDF Believe bulk of Lescott's wages in year 1 were being paid by Villa, no such option exits with Mariappa so he needs to fit within our structure. Thought he was close to signing with Hull so curious he is still available so must still be slight chance will end up at Ibrox. Take on board RFCInfinity's view tho that we only want players who really want us.

We should break the bank for Mariappa. The Lescott deal has fell through, Senderos was obviously on the back burner with Lescott viewed as a priority signing. Now isn't the time for a backup signing, if money is a motivator for him then so what. we all do the same in our everyday lives.

Not sure why got disagrees- senderos has struggled badly for fitness in recent years. That's not my opinion, it's a fact.
If he's not fit enough to play then he's not going to improve defence.

there is a difference this year we havnt gelled together as quickly as we would have hoped and celtic are flying at the moment looking to batter everyone they play .
I do hope we get a good fast cb within the next day or two and get back to scoring goals .
al we need is to win a game comfortably by 4 goals or more then that will kickstart our season.

Agreed James we do have better players at our disposal but they r going to take 10-20 games to gel. I know most of us don't want to hear it but I think we won't be up to speed until after Xmas. Just hope we can all be patient with everyone. We've basicly signed a whole new team so I wouldn't expect them all to hit the ground running. Watch out celtic when they get going though.
