Nicky Law has much to consider as he ponders the most important move of his career.
He and Gers are poles apart in negotiations, while clubs down south remain keen.
Law added: “It’s been made to look like a move to Rangers is done and dusted. That’s far from the case. I have two Championship managers to speak to next week.
Championship club or SFL Div 2, its a no brainer for the lad. Need to look elsewhere.
There are a number of football players that would prefer to play in SFL 2 in front of 40,000 to 50,000 every alternative weekend and enjoy the publicity of being part of the story that sees Rangers return to their rightful position at the top of Scottish Football.
The option of travelling to the deepest South of England or to Norfolk to play in front of a couple thousand locals is not a great motivator especially when they will still be earning good money at Rangers. {Ed001's Note - you do realise the Championship is the 6th most watched league in the world, right? It won't be a couple of thousand locals watching him, it will be 10k+ home and away, and millions watching on television every week. Added to that, every club there has a far bigger wage budget than Rangers, which is a far bigger motivator to most people.}
10,000, even 15,000 is no big deal and one has to assume that in due course the glory days will return for Rangers and with it, wages that are in line with those at Celtic Park.
I have travelled to Suffolk and to Norfolk to watch football and he experience was not particularly one that I would particularly wish to repeat!
In an ideal world both Rangers and Celtic would be playing in the English Premiership or in a European Style league.
The only real benefit that watching Rangers in SFL 2 and SFL 3 has for the 'punter' is the trips to pleasant parts of Scotland, something that the SPL has benefitted from since the arrival of both Inverness and Ross County!
In any event it really does depend on the teams that are interested in Nicky Law! Rangers, (even in Division 2), will be a bigger attraction than most Championship teams and while money is a significant motivator so is winning trophies.
In the long run he could end up better off financially at Rangers. Quality players are remembered for a long time after their football days and benefit as a result. Few people remember players that have played in the Championship unless they go on to bigger things.
I spoke to Cammy Bell in Annan last night where he's from and he said that he's signed a 4 year deal with the club, with John Daly and Nicky Law coming in as well.
I really think Law would struggle in the championship. If you look at the teams in it there is a lot of quality players. I am guessing that it would be a lower championship side who would be battling relegation. I would doubt he would play much however he will earn much more money
I doubt cammy bell would disclose to anyone what contract he has signed if he has signed with anyone yet after the fran sandaza saga so I doubt very much your story is true and also the john daly and nicky law deals are far from done deals as there is doubts over the future of our club so when you have real stories then we will be glad to read them.
