reportedly looking at Micheal Zyro, 25 year old midfielder currently at Wolves. Former Legia Warsaw player with Europa League and Champions League experience.

12 Dec 2017 18:51:18
Who Mark Allen the director of football who tells the manager who he is allowed to buy? Is that who you mean when you say “looking at”?

12 Dec 2017 19:27:00
He probably does mean the director of football aye. That's the way the board want to run the club it seems.

I can understand the merits of it as long as he works with the new manager when he comes in. If either one of them is a dominant force then it won't work.

12 Dec 2017 21:19:06
It won’t work and will never work I’m afraid. The dominant force when it comes to signing players is and should be the manager because he is the one who picks the team and tactics and should always have the control in what players get signed to play in the first team. If a director of football is there to help with the financial negotiations with a player which the manager, not the director of football, has identified to strengthen the team then fair enough but that’s where the director of footballs involvement in the dealings with first team players end. Do you think he was picking the players for Pep Guardiola to sign over the last year? No chance! He shouldn’t be interfering with the managers dealings in the first team. Definitely going to affect us getting a new manager in.

12 Dec 2017 21:57:06
It can work the manager identifies the type of player he needs for example a speedy striker the DOF then identifies candidates they then sit down and agree on who to go for and the DOF gets the player

12 Dec 2017 22:30:36
Rickwitter do you ever have anything positive to say? Such a negative person. Murty is only saying he is in charge at the moment because we don't have a full time manager

12 Dec 2017 23:40:20
Personally don't like a dof buying players on his own. The manager should be identifying which areas of the team he wants to strengthen and also key players he wants to get in, the dof should then add those names to a shortlist of players along with other realistic targets which he and the scouting team have identified. All information should then be presented back to the manager - transfer fees, wages etc of all shortlisted players, and he selects which one (s) we sign. After all he is the one that will eventually be sacked if the signings and team doesn't perform, I can't remember many high profile dof being sacked.

12 Dec 2017 23:52:43
Why would he be be picking the players for Pep last year? He wasn't director of football at City. He was head of youth development.

Scottish football is being left behind. The status quo doesn't work - that's been proven. Why not try something different?

I'm not convinced it'll be great either but it's worth a shot. Guess it's easier to rage against the machine though, right Rick?

13 Dec 2017 00:26:27
If the status quo doesn't work, and some have rage against the machine, does that put the club in dire straits? Thank you.

13 Dec 2017 04:40:20
It’s not worth a shot because it won’t work because he is interfering with the team. No credible manager would put up with that and if the board think that’s a healthy way to go forward then I really don’t see things getting any better. It’s a waste of a wage and he’s better going back to work with MTV because it’s going to cost us in the long run.

13 Dec 2017 08:06:58
The same player that would cost millions to buy? .

13 Dec 2017 08:17:56
How can rangers be seriously looking at any players How can a new manager come in and say these players don’t fit my system need my own also rangers need to offload players before they can seriously give anew manger wonga to sign new players so Zyro 😀😀😀😀😀

13 Dec 2017 08:19:13
Just because rick has a different opinion doesn't mean he is negative. I don't like the dof role, I think its a waste of a wage. The manager is the man who builds his team. I think the dof would put a lot of managers off the job. Obviously I hope it works out. Could you imagine someone telling walter or ferguson which players they were getting. Its a nonsense role.

13 Dec 2017 08:24:00
Director of football will make the signings but I’m sure if and when we get a manager he will take their opinion on board. Would be pointless signing someone if the manager said he won’t play him.

13 Dec 2017 08:15:49
I love how folks just make their own job spec up for dof.

Mark has stated he is here to assist the manager, whoever it is, and does not interfere. He oversees the whole pull of players, identifying potential academy players next to come through and any skill gaps thereafter.

Murty has also stated they work together to identify specific requirements.

It has been made clear that the manager has the final say.

Imo, it makes sense to have that continuity within the club so that everything doesn't grind to a halt at a time like this, for example.

13 Dec 2017 08:32:35
We need someone in or we'll miss out in January. Then the new manager will come in (maybe) and will be left with the same crap.

13 Dec 2017 11:01:15
The first team manager should identify what postion we need strengthing and go to the director of football and ask who do we have on our data base for that postion and have the final say on who he would prefer for that postion and be able to reccomend players to add to the data base.
No director of football should be buying players who he like managet should get final say it seems there are going down this route of director picking and it is so wrong no good manager will want to come under this situion

13 Dec 2017 14:09:39
The arguments this is causing is why DoF doesn't work.

We've had Allen in since late June and this club has worsened during that time. I'm not blaming him, of course, but it seems to me there are far too many people at our club who think they know how to do things, and they clearly don't.

What the heck gives a youth coach head the CV to become our Director of Football?! For example, if that's all it takes, why didn't we just promote Mulholland?

Nah, DoF for me is just too many cooks spoiling the broth, and there's been no evidence in any sense that we ever needed one.

13 Dec 2017 20:32:33
Guys it's not hard to figure this one out, Mark Allen will have a database of youth team players and recommendations from the scouting network for a variety of positions, the manager identifies a position that needs strengthened then they sit down and discuss who is on the shortlist or if the manager has a name in mind Allen does his due diligence and if said player is within budget/ ticks the right boxes a move can be made. Allen isn't going to sign a Ronaldo if the manager needs a Ramos.

14 Dec 2017 07:00:34
DoF has made enquiries to Wolves for Zyro on loan.

He’s not getting 1st team football and needs game time. The want him in a League where it’s physical and draws big crowds

I have this on very good authority, whether we get him or not remains to be seen. 🇬🇧

14 Dec 2017 08:10:17
Surely a chief scout could have a database, why does it have to be a dof? I just don't see the need for a dof.

14 Dec 2017 10:52:38
Is the whole point of the DoF not similar to Southampton?

The club have a philosophy on the types of players and style of football they want to play. Anyone brought to the club has to fit in with all of that and that includes the manager. The manager will no doubt identify weak areas to be strengthened and will have his own opinions on who to recruit which is up to the scouting to asses if the player fits the requirement. This should give a continuity to a tram even if the manager is sacked or leaves.

Something that southampton implemented years ago and its been a massive success. From lower leagues to high PL finishes on this method with players being sold for massive profits. Really can't see what peoples issues with this are. All i think is it is a total misunderstanding of what the roles involve

14 Dec 2017 15:38:55
yet to hear this mark allen speak so no idea what his role is or what his intentions are moving forward, in my opinion the position is not required, a strong manager and good backroom team/ coaches would suffice

15 Dec 2017 00:09:06
No idea if D. O. F 's work but plenty of clubs have them. Maybe should give the boy a chance?

12 Dec 2017 14:57:34
We need a new goalkeeper. I know some might say its not priority and ill say fair enough to that.

Wes for me lacks so much of the physical and mental attributes required to be a goalkeeper. He is so weak in the box at crosses. Last minute vs ross county he fumbled the ball after bouncing off alves. He should be screaming for the ball and taking everyone in his path out. he's no where near commanding enough.

I will add he can make a great save but being a goalkeeper is more than making saves.

Even Alnwick seems to lack that physical and mental side of his game.

Who would you like to see come in as replacement? Within reason of course. Heard Casillas wants out of Porto. "rolls eyes".

12 Dec 2017 15:11:10
I personally think fods is a good keeper. Yes he isn’t the best at crosses but he is a really good shot stopper.

12 Dec 2017 15:18:54
If Robbie McCrorie is as good as his twin brother, then in a couple of years, we will have him as our first choice keeper.

12 Dec 2017 15:30:05
Wes epitomises modern Rangers. Some fans pointing out a quality or two of a player to try to justify and being divided over a player who couldn't lace McGregor, Woods, Klos or even Charbonnier's boots.

Hate this period in our history.

12 Dec 2017 15:59:42
I agree fods the best player we've had in a while, can't blame him for catching the ball for that freekick and Wilson jumping into him to make him spill it

12 Dec 2017 17:05:58
There are so many keepers down south that are not getting a game I would look at them. Take Krul, Stekelenberg, Lindegaard for example.

12 Dec 2017 19:43:29
Liam Kelly for me is an absolutely fantastic goalkeeper and definitely one for the very near future. been out on loan a couple times and just waiting for his opportunity, very much like McGregor did.

12 Dec 2017 21:09:57
Got to agree with the o. p, the stats don't lie, we have lost something like 62 league goals in 55 games between this season so far and last season. That's a really poor stat, I know the defence need to take a share of the blame but Fods has let in goals he should never be letting in. He is dodgy at crosses, a bombscare with the ball at his feet and doesn't command his area. I would be happy to see a higher standard of keeper brought in.

12 Dec 2017 21:59:00
Fods is an average keeper who let's in 2 many soft goals. Nearly cost us 2 points on Saturday with that mistake late on. He must have known Wilson was in close attention so why not punch the ball rather than try and hold it

13 Dec 2017 20:37:31
Thanks for keeping us in the game Wes before Windass and Morelos put us in front!
Hope we are up for second half! Come on the gers!

13 Dec 2017 21:48:42
A new goalie, aye ok mate.

14 Dec 2017 08:11:04
Take a bow wes, outstanding.

14 Dec 2017 08:20:09
If it wasn't for Foderingham last night we could have been murdered by Hibs! Think there are far more obvious areas we should strengthen before we need to look at he keeper

15 Dec 2017 00:30:44
Seriously? . Thankfully most of you won't ever get any say on team selection or just any say. He's probably the best keeper in the league when it comes to ball at his feet and distribution. He's improving all the time. Yes, he's no Goram, etc but he's good enough just now. Pig sick of such fickle "supporters"

12 Dec 2017 14:51:11
Think the board will move for Alex Neil in January.

Currently on a 12 month rolling contract at Preston so wouldn't cost a lot of compensation.

He fits the criteria of having knowledge of Scottish and British football whilst being young and ambitious.
Seems like a very confident gaffer with a very decent track record given he's only 36 years old.

20/1 with the bookies currently, certainly worth a fiver.

12 Dec 2017 16:12:29
He's been scathing of us in the past as his loyalties apparently lie elsewhere in Glasgow. Just saying before the offended brigade come on and slaughter me. lol

12 Dec 2017 16:19:00
Be good but looks like he's loving life at Preston and has lined up Moult for January so can’t see him wanting to come.

12 Dec 2017 16:41:43
Potter and Reid it should be. Reid has experience of Scottish game and is a Rangers man. Also developed young players like McCarthy and McArthur at Hamilton and sold them for a great profit

12 Dec 2017 20:01:27
And exactly Wat has Alec Neil actually done?

13 Dec 2017 08:03:20
Seeker, it doesn't worry me if the pc brigade complain, this appointment would be absolutely against the grain. He's an out and out person who has decried us in the past. He's never a candidate for Rangers manager, and that's as it should be.

13 Dec 2017 08:04:39
I don’t care where anyone’s loyalties used to lie. If that person can put us back on top where we belong I would take anyone

12 Dec 2017 12:50:30
I head board new DM would knock us back. That allows time now for share issues to get new investment in whilst we run with Murty. New money from abroad being negotiated as well. It will all happen mid Jan. meantime we just need to grind out wins.

12 Dec 2017 14:52:17
Why don't we just drop the Mciinnes stuff he is not coming to us end of, and for Steve McLaren I don't think he is the answer what does he know about Scottish football, get behind Graeme Murty for the next few games and try and gain as many points as we can that is the main thing at this moment.

13 Dec 2017 08:06:30
Well said biglach

13 Dec 2017 08:08:23
Get behind Murty and hopefully get a few more wins. Whoever we get, manager must get some funds and sell a few duds for new faces. If we have money why not bid for mccginn? Great player. Think he will head down south though.

12 Dec 2017 08:32:32
Have to admit fellow bears, that like scobierfc, i've also heard from a former rangers director, that Steve McClaren is and always has been very much in the running, to be our new manager! What i've been told is that our DOF Mark Allen, especially rates and is pushing the board of directors, to appoint Steve McClaren! Allen rates McClaren as a terrific coach and perfect for the role, as working hand in hand with a DOF! Time will tell i suppose!

12 Dec 2017 09:45:16
Super i heard this about a month ago that allen wanted him, i'm not sure, what do we do, have faith in allen who by all means is a well respected and connected dof, i'm just not sure about McLaren but i can see some advantages

12 Dec 2017 15:53:10
McLaren is so good none of the numerous English sides that are or were recently managerless have appointed him or publicly shown interest through media sources.

I have no idea who the answer is to provide all the solutions to our inadequacies, however if GM can keep us winning in the mean time a higher league position with a fighting chance of title 55 then the list will surely grow on DK table.

12 Dec 2017 17:44:31
Mark Allan is a weird one for me. He never been a DOF before, he was the head youth coach at Man City and left under a shadow. Man City can't sign any youth players for 2 years and got a big fine. Hope we don't go down the Mc Claren route.

12 Dec 2017 07:56:41
We could do with a foreign manager, one who can tap into markets we can afford to deal in, one who has contacts in the game and can persuade decorated players of massive experience to come and play in the SPL. We could do with a manager who has passion and ambition and won't select players who are not contributing either with goals or effort even if they have connections and friends high up in the boardroom.

We need a manager who has our best interests at heart and we need to give him time to change things for the better as this league, the media, the brainwashed (by the media) fans, the lack of investment in an inept product can't carry on and needs a shake up. oh 🤔wait a minute.
