So Alex McLeish is heading for the sack. Given his illness i'm so glad he is being taken out of the firing line before some tartan tranny does him in. I think the treatment he has received is absolutely deplorable. His whole character and standing in the game has been plunged into the gutter by the so called Scotland supporting media as well as players, ex players and ex managers. Remember this was a guy who regularly outfoxed O'Neill and won more trophies for us in a shorter space of time. He is being portayed as some kind of pantomime villain here and the vilification he has received from every corner has been nothing short of disgraceful. A nicer guy you couldn't meet. Yes he has a problem and shouldn't have been offered the job, but come on, have a heart. He is sick and needs help, pure and simple. This episode has only strengthened my resolve against the national team i really couldn't care less what they do or who they play. I for one will not be tuming in. They can all jog on!

What a load of bull, the guy is clueless end of.

Seeker - I am Scottish, born and bred, and can disassociate my national identity from a bunch of idiot teuchters in tartan bunnets and some self serving **** in blazers. I will continue supporting my country whilst giving them short shrift.

Second, let's not rewrite history with McLeish. He was a poor Rangers manager and we were chasing him out the door by the end. He won one title with Advocaat's players, absolute top drawer guys like De Boer and Ferguson. He then oversaw a record 7 Old Firm defeats while losing the title to Celtic. Then the following season scraped over the line on the last day after Celtic imploded and threw away a lead. He made some truly awful signings and was terrible tactically. Hamed Namouchi anyone? Fans protested outside the stadium to get rid of him!

I feel bad for him with his illness but he was a mediocre manager and I was glad when he left.

What illness does he have?

29 Mar 2019 08:35:58
Everybody is entitled to their opinion of course. The big guy won more trophies than O'Neill in a shorter spacs of time, including a treble in 2003. What wouldn't we give for a mere sniff of that just now? Don't you agree that the vilification from everywhere is nowhere near what the likes of Strachan, or even Levein/ Burley got. Couldn't give a flying f*** about the national team. Only Gers for me.

DEEB , I think it's stupidity.

29 Mar 2019 10:22:00
The only people saying he is ill are those same papers. Moreover, he should never have got the job and the people you are insulting are the ones giving him a big fat cheque to embarrass Scotland.

In short - I don't think the SFA give a flying **** about whether you support them or not.

29 Mar 2019 10:53:01
And i don't give a flying f*** about what you think either pal. You have a nice day now.

29 Mar 2019 11:14:04
It's interesting to note some on here offered sympathy for griffiths re mental rescue issues, rightly so.
Strange some chose to slaughter an ex manager of ours who has issues.

29 Mar 2019 11:43:02
What illness?

29 Mar 2019 11:55:03
I personally have offered my sympathies. But I'm also not suddenly going to pretend he was a great manager. People just change their opinion like the wind. I expressed sympathy for Griffiths too, doesn't mean I all of a sudden started liking him. You can have empathy for another human without having to think they are good at their job or like them as a person.

McLeish is clueless regardless of anything else. He done well with Dick's squad, got lucky in the FA cup with Brum but that aside he has done nothing but show himself to be a pretty poor manager for a lot of years now. His etiquette in interviews is embarrassing as well. The guy is terrible at stringing sentences together.

29 Mar 2019 13:36:44
McLeish wasn't some messiah when he was manager but he won 5 trophies and a cup in England. He wasn't sh*te when he managed Gers. To read some of the things written about him shocks and surprises me.

Deep, FYI he has early onset dementia/ alzheimers. My mother had it. Not a killer but horrible none the less. Watching loved one waste away not funny. The only plus is he will remember his football highpoints but not what he had for breakfast that morning. This is the worst it gets. Thankfully a slow acting condition and he's not on way out yet. Read posts naming Mcleish/ slagging his record in same breath. Well, in grand scheme it doesn't matter a damn. I for one will think only of his health.
A very sympathetic party.

Well said Miller.

29 Mar 2019 15:46:44

If so how do you know?

On a side note here, I remember watching him around 2 years ago, he was doing punditry on our game at Aberdeen might have been around the time of Warburtons departure. He was incoherent that day and all over the place, I thought then something was up and he was touted for us both times we gave been looking for a manager recently. He has been finished as a top level manager for a while and hopefully if the SFA want rid they’ll pay the man up and move on with his dignity in tact.
