You've got to laugh off the hypocrisy of some of the posters. On the one hand they say 'back your team if you're a real fan'and then disagree like a rash if you say back our current midfielders as a better bet than a 33 year old Steven Davis.

Spot on kfraser too many on here contradict themselves constantly. It rarely works out when players go back to their former clubs. We are not a retirement home for former players looking for a final payday.

Agreed guys. I would have taken Naismith back but in general best to move on. Dorrans, Jack, Murphy, Goss, Docherty, Holt, McCrorie. Pretty strong. One man doesn't make a team.

Doesn't make any sense what you have just spouted. We as fans are constantly wanting to improve our team / club. If you are telling me that Steven Davis wouldn't get in our team your mental. A rangers supporter also, left on good terms and has done wonders down south. If he wanted to come back for a season or two we would be mad not to make contact with him.
A retirement home and final pay day. Maybe 20 years ago, but we simply cannot afford the wages that he will be on at Southampton, he would be taking a huge wage decrease and maybe he wants to help his boyhood club get back to the top.

Apart from that football is a short career, do you think he would have been picked by Northern Ireland if he was playing in the fourth tier of Scottish football?

To all the outraged and and disagree button fanatics I ask who you'd drop for Davis. Let's say a midfield of Candeias, Docherty, Dorrans and Murphy. Subs, let's say Jack, Holt or Rossiter and Windass. The two upfront being Moralos and Cummings. Who would you drop for Davis, a 33 year old not getting game time at Southampton and likely in doing so, damage a young player's career and learning curve? If you agree press the disagree button.

Because none of our current midfield are close to the quality of Davis. This doesn't mean that I don't support any of our current players.

having watched davis closely since he moved to EPL he’s improved playing with and against better players these last few years
i fully respect the players we have and think in goss docherty dorrans jack windass murphy mcrorie etc we have a good core midfield
but let’s be clear even at 33 if there’s any chance to get steve davis back to Ibrox (which i highly doubt) we shd move mountains to get the lad back - he’s a step above what we have, and is playing in arguably the best league in the world
id take him back in a heartbeat

Aye Southampton paid a fee but it was nothing to do with anything Davis did. He can gtf with the rest of the rats. In any case why would we want a 33 year old when we plenty younger midfielders with more potential

Really don't understand the desperation on here to bring former players back who are too old now. We need to sign players who will make us a profit when we sell them on that way we won't need to obtain payday loans because shareholders are fed up providing soft loans to enable us to survive!

Yeah we got about 800k for him I believe . Ridiculous to expect a player of EPL quality to play in the lowest tier of Scottish football against plumbers and postmen every week.
