I've sat on the fence and haven't said much about Bates, watching him tonight enforces my thoughts, he is absolutely murder! Thought he was the same against Hibs, had at least 3 hand balls that could have gone against him. He doesn't look like a footballer. He looks like bambi on ice - I seriously worry every time he gets the ball at the back.

Totally agree said it before bombscare am not having this he's stil young he's learning p*sh he's not 16 he's simply not good enough wouldve liked to see the boy wilson start

I see the complete opposite with regards to Bates. I can’t think of him ever losing a header. I’ve no expectations that he’ll go on to be a Rangers legend, however I’m sure we’ll develop a reliable and strong centre half. The one thing I would work on at training would be his distribution as this isn’t the best part of his game.

Honest big boy he sure is there's plenty of them about doesn't mean he's good enough for us, i'm not bein negative or having a go imo the guys just not good enough as some1 said before kirk broadfoot on a bad day

The lad is a good defender doesn't lose many headers and his positional sense is very good it's his distribution of the ball that let's him down but he is still young so plenty time for improvement

Ask yourself if he was at say killie or st johnstone would he be a stand out would he be better than ther honest big defenders simple answer is no and that tells you his level

Honestly I don’t mean to knock him, he’s just not good enough. If he was, would he not have an offer or signed a new deal already?

He may not be a stand out but he would be better than what they have like other posters have said I can't see him being a baresi or a maldini but the main thing is the lad defends well his distribution isn't the best but first and foremost I would want my defenders to be able to defend

See if anyone in our defence was even close to being decent ( and I mean centre halves ) we wouldn't have shipped as many goals as we have! We have Tav and John as our outter backs and come into so much s**t as they get blamed for not defending when we set them up to attack! Alves is the only one I'd say is and out and out centre and when we played young McCrorie in there with him it looked solid! Wilson has left after maybe 3-4 decent games ( after he's been slaughtered loads ) and 75% on here are saying he's jumping ship 😂😂! Danny wasn't the be all and end all he had a few good games that's about it! Cardoso ain't the answer either and if anything Martin has looked like he's has our defence in line since he came onboard! The boy looks vocal ( which we don't have with Waldo ) and seems to orchestrate the defence but tonight in his absence we look to have skipped back a 12 months

Bates is improving every game he plays! At present what else are we asking of him, granted we have to strengthen in there but give the guy a break
