Barton now under investigation for betting on Barcelona vs Celtic game. Can we get rid of him now?

Agree1 Disagree1

I would think that Rangers set a precedent when black was done for betting and more so against his own team and they did not sack him. bartons PFA reps will be all over that imo.

Football must be the only business where you can sign a contract, fail to perform, break the rules yet potentially walk away with compensation up to the full amount of a contract. We're in wrong business guys. Be rid of JB and test the regulations around compensation. I'm happy to pay cash up front for my season ticket as part of the club's overall accounting but that's for the club. not an individual who has failed the club in every sense.

It's not a sacking offence, even if like Ian Black, you bet against your own team and I'm sure Barton's representative will stress the words of Ally McCoist, who claimed he had produced a long list of players who bet on games in Scotland. 2 or 3 game ban I would think, whatever the precedent was set with Black and Simonson - if I remember correctly.

Much as I dislike Barton, I can't be hypocritical here and say I have a problem with him betting on Celtic to lose.

Final thoughts. Bit of a coincidence this emerging the day after the Barton ban, isn't it?

I think we could anyway, look at the Sandaza situation a couple of years back. People saying we would have to pay him off are wrong. The club will always have items in contracts relating to behaviour, breaching this makes contract termination no problem.

Was this reported by the same grass that leaked the bust up?

I don't like Barton, I never wanted him- I didn't think we needed a player like him on or off the park. He's an expensive version of Ian black.

But the way the club has acted is abysmal.

I think your club should be thankful there's a grass within the ranks in this case. Would you really rather it was kept quiet but continued to boil under the surface or would you rather it came out and allowed your club to move on in a positive maneer? HH.

I hope he doesn't come back as we have better here than him.

I'm sick of hearing about Barton. Been nothing but trouble and he's been in the door 5 games.
Not fit, poor form and a bad attitude. Let's face it though they should hardly even call that a bet, Celtic to get trounced off Barca. Stevie wonder could have seen that coming.

He's not daft though I'm sure his book sales will be looking great right now. Rossiter and Crooks are the future for us in that position, even if we can't get rid of Barton now I don't want to see him back in the team for purely footballing reason. Halliday was better in one game their than Bartons been all season and it's not his natural position.

No chance is it as straightforward as you seem to think. I wouldn't say that betting is cause for dismissal and the whole episode with the argument seems to have been poorly handed. Workers have more and more rights and I reckon Barton is the sort to try and get as much money as he can.
