Not got these figures clarified but I think Defoe is on around £55-60k per week, Ings £40k so unless the clubs would be willing to let the players leave and continue to pay half their wages I’d say we have little chance on getting either unless they are freed early from their contracts but I’m sure if either player was not fancied the clubs would be able to get a fee or at least all the wages paid by another club.

Why would we want to sell our best players to mediocre clubs when we have the chance of champions league games on the horizon inevitably their stock will rise and then the big guns with the financial muscle can come in.

Presuming we qualify for the champions league then shouldn't the players that want to leave have higher ambitions and go to teams that are certain of champions league football?

No disrespect to West Ham if the rumours are true but I genuinely think if we had same the money as down south we would be challenging for Champions League football every season.

We should not be selling players unless they meet the club's valuation instead of letting them go on the cheap

Mediocre clubs that pay there players a hell of a lot more than we can do that’s why the players will want to go and they play in a better league week in week out.

We are also not guaranteed to get to group stages.

We can't rely on Champions league money before we have qualified even Dave King has said this in the past. David Murray done this and look what happened. We are losing money by the bucket load every year and buying cheap and selling for a good profit is the business plan.
