Why are rangers fans serious about giving David bates a new contract he is a terrible player boy aiden Wilson twice the player.

Explain to me why he’s a terrible player? A terrible player wouldn’t be getting man of the match performances on several occasions. He can defend full stop. People need to stop giving him a hard time for his distribution. If he could defend and had the passing of a playmaker he wouldn’t be playing for us, it’s a simple as that. He’s young and has a lot to learn but by no means is he a terrible player.

He may have indifferent distribution but the passes he does pull off are usually pretty decent in final 3rd. He is quite quick and athletic if he gets beat he normally gets back goalside quickly and has above average strength play him alongside Bruno or Martin and he will continue to improve. Listen I used to think he was just another mediocre squad player at best but to be fair to him defensively he has rarely been found wanting or directly causing us a goal and he’s played Ceptic, the sheep and the other big games and never let us down

Bates is an ok defender if he keeps it simple. he's not a footballer he cannot ping a ball 40/50 yards his distribution from the back is brutal and he needs to stop trying the world class passes like he constantly tried against Fraserburgh, every time he gave the ball away.

And when alves is fit, play him and martin. that's our strongest paring they can both pass a ball and are decent with the ball at there feet

I suggest all you lot slagging Bates go back and look at each goal they score. He is at fault for ZERO of them yet here you all are slagging him. The first goal Docherty fails to clear and then Martin doesn’t chase out to close down the shot. Second goal, Martin lumps the ball forward to one of their players then they break and score. Third goal, Martin hand ball. At what point did Bates do anything wrong? And for those of you saying his distribution is bad. he’s a good strong defender with good positional sense. If his distribution was good he wouldn’t be playing for us, it’s as simple as that. I think because he is young and came from raith he is the scape goat for when things go wrong at the back. I’ve seen him put in far more good performances this season than Alves has when he has played

Bates was not at fault for any of the goals, Martin was at fault for two and Docherty the other.
Bates might not be the best centre half we have but at this moment he has the jersey.
Can anyone tell me any goal since the winter break that has been his fault.
The guy gives 100% every time but because he is not one of the pin up boys he is being made the scapegoat.
Instead of slagging the team get behind them.
Murty sees the players everyday and at this moment he thinks bates is better than Alves or Alves would have the jersey end of story
Onwards and Upwards just a think we are only 9 behind, the sheep beat them next week and then we do and the title is back on

Bates was a collosus last night. Superb no nonsense defender. Very close to another motm performance and windass got a goal and assist - he was shhhin all the doubers wasnt the first and won't be tge last player to celebrate like that. happy with murty what you want warburton or pedro back?

And before I get stick for naming a top class manager and player, no I am not comparing them with Josh Windass, but Windass is a top performer in his position, that is backed up by his stats. let's not forget until Murty took over Windass was splaying left wing, he is never a left winger in his life.

Rangers are sitting 3rd because of our defensive short comings, not attacking, we have the top goalscorers and top creators in the league, again this is a fact proven by players stats.

@rfcchris murty bettered Pedro however after the same amount of games Pedro had more points on the board? Not backing Pedro, far from it but I read earlier today that murty has actually lost more games in the top flight than either murty or Pedro. Need to double check that stats tho. So yeah Pedro is not better than murty but also he's not worse.

Unfortunately the rot has set in and now the fans are slowly accepting mediocrity. I mean come on guys a laboured win vs a very poor thistle side, whom had their chances, and all of a sudden we are world beaters.

I can remember when Craig Moore was coming into the team and got similar stick. He ended up being one of my favourite players of all time. Give the boy a chance and give him the support he needs. And remember few of the great defenders had good distribution, as long as he can get the ball comfortably onto midfield to someone who is good on the ball.

The big man will only get better but I think he will level out at SPL standard which will be fine although if we want to be playing group stage Europa League football or higher then we will need to upgrade both centre backs and probably a whole lot more in the next few seasons.

We seem to have a settled first 11 that I would like to see 2 players come into this summer but the back up is woefully short IMO, we could be doing with overhauling the squad in that sense and getting rid of the dead wood! (Easier said Ryan done I know! )

On the plus side we seem to have a raft of young talent at the club at present and we need to get these guys tied down ASAP and find a pathway to to the senior squad, you never know they might just be the answer!

Distribution it’s was awful at best. I watched him to see what all the fuss was about and I was mega disappointed
Distribution was crap. It seems to be a common theme from recent Rangers defensive players
Tav has certainly improved
Need to work on defence perhaps if gough is tight with DK
Maybe he could become our defensive coach
