We change of football subject here guys, but nonetheless, an important one, as its our country's fate, i'm speaking about here. Having read michael stewart's column, in this morning's sunday sun, i tend to agree with him, which i don't do often! He states that big alex mcleish shouldn't have been reappointed as the scotland manager and now he has, he should be removed, as scotland are going even further backwards, under his watch! I totally agree with him. Alex mcleish was a good manager years ago and was terrific as rangers manager! I really liked mcleish, but he's burnout as a manager now, IMO!

Ed, could you please run a poll for me, gauging who we would want as the scotland manager, if mcleish left his position? The manager choices being guus hiddink, jurgen klinsman, davie moyes, stevie clarke, neil lennon, derek
mcinnes, scott gemmill or any other! Cheers ED, would be much appreciated mate!

Why are you reading that dreadful excuse of a paper? After their truly disgraceful coverage of the Hillsborough disaster who in their right mind would entertain this piece of filth?

Also should have an option for "couldnt really care" if you want to cover all bases!

That’s a terrible paper to read Supercooper why read it?

Important? Not to me. Literally couldn't care less.

I'm not going to try and defend his tactics because they haven't been the best. However in terms of selection, who do we actually have who is better? In particular the defence!

Trying to fit Robertson and Tierney into the same defence doesn't work but do you play a CB just because that's his natural position?

We line up with Robertson, Tierney, Mulgrew and Souttar (or some other random) . Basically our whole defence is Left Backs.

Any one who comes in will have the same problem unless we as a nation start to produce some decent CB's.

Middle to front I feel we should have enough quality to beat teams like Israel and although I detest the guy an in form Leigh Griffiths should be starting ahead of the likes of Naismith. Watching him the other night, his positioning was terrible. Comes far too deep into the midfield.

grant89 - scotlands managers of the time had no poblem playing Jardine and McGrain in the same back four, boh were right backs. Why not the same now or is it that McLeish is hell bent on playing a back 3. This would not be a problem if the players chosen played that system for their clubs.

Other than the 2 goals against England that were brilliantly taken I don’t think Griffiths has done much playing for Scotland. Tbh I don’t think he really wants to play for Scotland and has alliegences across the water. He also took the huff after being dropped and refused to play in this round of fixtures. Are we that desperate that we want players to pick and choose when they play for us and childishly pull out when it suits? Fact of the matter the current Scottish team are full of average players. We have 1 genuine top quality player who is a left back and a very good keeper other than that no one else of quality required to qualify for tournaments.

8.) 14 Oct 2018

Bindo who is your 1 genuine quality left back, IMO we have 2.

Whos the two then bluetoon?

10.) 14 Oct 2018

JYF - I'm not afraid to say Tierney and Robertson. Still awaiting Bindo giving his choice.

Git a grip of yourselves! I read the article online and asked a question to everyone on here, regarding the scotland situation! I don't condone one bit what that newspaper done and reported, regarding the Hillsborough situation, which was a terrible tragedy! So guys don't ever suggest i do, just because i read an online article in that newspaper!

my point would be blue that robertson has played in a european final tierney has been part of a defense that takes REGULAR humpings in europe, top quality my arse.

13.) 14 Oct 2018
14 Oct 2018 15:04:31
Obviously it’s Robertson a guy playing for 1 of the best teams in Europe.

No one said you do however I am merely pointing out that I’m surprised you read such a paper. A paper who reported their “truth” about that tragedy. Believe they accused Liverpool fans of peeing on police trying to help the victims and fans stealing from the dead. It’s just strange you are against someone like Naismith coming back (something I agree with) but are happy to read a paper that can print such things.

Some on here unwittingly seem to be supporting the anti Mcleish originating from the dark side. Broonie persuaded the Thumb to pull out from squad and now they have persuaded Tierney to withdraw. All actions intended to undermine the current Scotland manager.

Bluetoon

Robertson and I’m shocked you have to even ask. He is playing for one of the best teams in England and excelled last season in their journey to the Champions league final. As Jyf says what exactly has Tierney done to be considered such a great left back? Anytime he has come up against quality opposition in Europe he and his team have been taken apart. However if playing well against Hamilton, Partick Thistle and Dundee means you think he is a great player then fine. Maybe myself and Jyf aim a bit higher?

17.) 14 Oct 2018
14 Oct 2018 15:23:46
Was McLeish really our best option? My question is - who would take it? Its a tough job being our national manager, fact is McLeish has been away from football for to long, i actually cringe listening to him now. It doesn't help when players like Griffiths spits the dummy out. Its a bad day when the players make excuses not to play for Scotland or is it they don't want to play for McLeish?

18.) 14 Oct 2018
14 Oct 2018 15:42:25
TBH, not enamoured by Mcleish but TBH when you have **** to pick from your going to struggle. However to the point in hand, who else available or want the job?

Bankie

It is a pity Brown didn’t pull out of more squads for all the use he was in a Scotland jersey. On McLeish I think the game has moved on from him and he isn’t what’s needed going forward.

14 Oct 2018 16:17:34
Bindo, because i read an article, doesn't mean i agree with the certain newspaper regarding the heartbreaking Hillsborough disaster! We all read articles written by certain outlets from time to time, who have written some very poor articles along the way! So don't bring anything like that into it,
when all i was trying to do was gauge what us scotland supporters felt, regarding michael stewart's article! Nothing more, nothing less,
nothing untoward! IMO you shouldn't have brought up anything to do with the tragic events at Hillsborough,
when i never mentioned it! No need whatsoever mate!

I think the point being is that why even bother reading anything from that paper? Don’t think anyone is saying anything about you personally or about your character. The article in question was shocking and as a result a lot of people don’t read it especially in Liverpool. Let’s face it they aren’t slow in printing rubbish about us too.

22.) 14 Oct 2018

bluetoon - Tierney and Robertson are good players but I wouldn't quite class them in the same bracket as Jardine or McGrain.

On Griffiths I'm not saying pick the guy even though he doesn't want to play. I was just making a comment based on the past few seasons. He scored 40+ goals in our top national division (some will debate the quality there) but players such as Martin and Fletcher were chosen who were woeful.

But anyway if we could get 2 reasonably good quality centre backs then I think we would have a much better chance.

23.) 14 Oct 2018
14 Oct 2018 17:15:16
Supercoop, believe you started off this thread referencing Michael Stewart’s negative comments on the Scotland manager. That is the same Michael Stewart who had 5 days training with us at Murray Park under Mcleish when Rangers manager. Need I say more. Mr Stewart carries a lot of baggage.

Chance of what?

of actually winning some matches and maybe making a tournament.

26.) 15 Oct 2018

Tierney is top drawer lads, let's be honest. I take the point about him playing in a shoddy defence but Maldini wouldn't be able to do much with those muppets. Tierney will end up at Man U or similar in the near future.

27.) 15 Oct 2018
15 Oct 2018 14:05:09
No he isn't. He is a decent player in Scotland and constantly found out in Europe. Man Utd player? Nearly spilled my coffee!

28.) 15 Oct 2018
15 Oct 2018 18:27:18
Tierney is maybe top drawer in the current Scotland team standards. Unfortunately that's not saying much. A bit like saying you are the most sh*ggable out of the ugly sisters!

Snell, can’t recall if that was Donald Trump and Joey Barton but think we get your point.
