Anyone else reckon we'll just offer Hearts cash + O'Halloran for Walker?

That's what we should be doing. Throw in Kiernan, Halliday and a ten pence mixture too

I wouldn't bother offering any more. Walker can sign a pre contract in December. If hearts are going to play silly buggers and be greedy then just wait till December and get him free. Sod them they do us no favours.

{Ed039's Note - he can only sign a pre contract i January with a club outside Scotland, rangers can't talk to him until end of next season, probably to do with league integrity rules)

Not quite as simple as that though. Doubt he would get the same wages at Hearts and I don't think we would subsidise him to go

If we offered Kiernan and Halliday that would put the price up. We would need to pay Hearts to take that pair off our hands! In any event there are rumours that Warburton might want Kiernan at Forrest so here's hoping.

As far as Walker is concerned I wouldn't offer any more. The boy wants a move to Rangers and will be extremely unsettled if he is forced to stay at Hearts. Even if someone else comes along and offers Hearts a price for him if he wants to come to us then he can hold out for the move.

If Hearts choose to hold on to him in the knowledge that they will lose out on £200,000 in the process, (Difference between the £600k offer on the table and a development fee of £400k), and a disgruntled player!, then so be it.

Ed. That rule is just within England ie English team to English team. In Scotland the rule is still from 6 months left. I cite Richard Britton signing a pre-contract in jan '13 to sign for St. Johnstone. Then had a change of heart 3 months later and signed a new contract with Ross Co.

{Ed039's Note - I believe the rule is you must write to the players club for permission to speak to the player? I seem to remember this is why the Cammy Bell deal took so long to complete, I might be wrong)

Unwritten rule ed 6 months before end of contract

No requirement to speak to a players club when seeking a pre-contract. However it is usually done as a courtesy.

Ed

Didn't Caldwell sign a pre contract with Celtic while at Hibs a few years ago?

{Ed039's Note - did Hibs give them permission to speak to him? This is the point I am trying to make, you can not just talk to the player)
