Some folk would like you to believe were terrivle in defence and corners in particular over the winter break time. Well Jack Butland has the most clean sheets across the top 15 leagues in europe. Imagine we had a good defence ?.

I think it's because when we do lose a goal it invariably comes from a corner, long throw or free kick into the box. Causing the usual panic amongst the usual suspects.
But our defence in general has been pretty solid this year and is currently the best in the SPFL.

To be honest MPH I think it was more down to the fact that we lost 2 very similar goals from corners in a friendly game, with our second choice keeper and where one was an own goal from a 6th choice CB and some of fans are completely over reactive to every little thing that happens no matter the game or situation, and therefore started to scream about our ‘terrible’ defence. Even had some folk desperate to sign another CB in January despite us having the best defensive record in the league. ?.

If we lose a goal from open play, we lose a goal. However, when we lose a goal from a corner or free kick, there can be a bit of a meltdown by some.
I'm more concerned of the lack of goals scored from set pieces. How many corners did we have against Livi?

Butland is the obvious difference in our defence from last season. His ability and presence, especially coming for crosses and corners, has totally shored up the defence and given the defenders more confidence. Still think we need a proper aggressive ball winning centre half though.

I'm quietly confident in our defence. We have an excellent defensive midfield that generally mops up mistakes and a world class goallie. Keep bulging the net at the other end and we will be fine. The team that scores most goals Wins.

We're a lot more dangerous with corners the last few games, scored against livingston from a corner.

We did score from a corner, My Star, but, our conversion rate is poor - although, in saying that, Silva nearly scored a worldly from a corner. 14 corners, and a few free kicks, and only one goal.

I've seen at least 10 great, goal saving, saves that Butland has made this year, to me he's been the difference. There have been a few goal line clearances that have been nervy. The defence has been good and lucky. Long may it continue.

All teams lose goals from set pieces, corners and open play every team does isn't that what the game of football is all about.
