Otterspocket, i was speaking to a big jambo supporter in our local shop who has been a hearts season ticket holder and shareholder for over 40 years and follows hearts everywhere. He told me today that he has it from a very good source of his that lawrence shankland is a done deal to sign for rangers in the close season ? so i have the same info as yourself mate ? I've also been told that even in january alex rae was constantly in clement's ear that we should have signed shankland in january never mind this summer ? All the jambo i was talking to would say it's from a very high position he got his info and he ain't happy that as far as he's concerned, shankland is signing for rangers,
time will tell ?.

Car-d blue, how about Mbappe, Haaland, Salah, or Bellingham? Are they better enough. We need to be realistic as to where we are - we are no longer a club that can attract the best players like the 90's - had Shankland signed in Jan, then I've no doubt we'd be top of the league just now.

SWS I was told the only reason we didn’t sign him in January was because we were skint and needed to sell first to buy him but it didn’t work out. Shanks is desperate to sign for us. I got laughed at on here when he was at Ayr Utd and I said we should sign him for £100k…………my ex team mate played for Ayr Utd, my other ex team mate managed Ayr Utd and won a Scottish Cup with Killie. My ex team mates son is one of the best talents we have in our youth system. I am not saying I know everything but I do hear stuff that is credible.

Otterspocket I was the same I wanted him at that stage too but relatively risk free at that type of fee but the fees hearts reportedly wanted for him i wouldn't be shelling out that type of figures, I feel it waa too much.

Otters/ GJD - Was of same opinion when he was at Ayr and many of my Gers supporting mates were the same at that time and wanted us to give him a go then - football snobbery got in way - our lower leagues have given Scotland some great talent over the years - hopefully we get back to a stage of signing good Scottish talent in its youth and get some identity back too.

SWS no the conversation didn’t include the price. Think the figure branded about in January was 3 or 4 million. Personally I wouldn’t mind Shankland and Miovski but really unlikely.

I’m not Shanklands biggest fan, nor do I think he will take us to the next level. HOWEVER, recent weeks have shown that we can get the ball in the 6 yard box and Dessers cannot put it in the net the way Shankland can. We would be top of the league with Shankland instead of Dessers.

My issue bar72 is our trading model selling Patterson and Bassey did nothing stopping us losing maybe 3 champions league direct entry. We should be selling raskin, hagi, McCausland and Cantwell for profits. As well as Butland. Promote Rice etc but we don’t or won’t. Makes business sense. We want to keep a 32 year old right back at the expense of a 24 year old, because he scores more than our forward line. Shankland gives us something different and takes penalties.

Our trading model doesn’t mean every player we bring in has to have a sell on value increase, if so we have a major issue. We have spent and are about to spend millions on projects that have and will increase our revenue for ffp. However the club is built on traditions and has been built on success. I am old enough to have seen a lot and the swings and roundabouts that football brings. However in the last 7 years we have won the equivalent of a treble, a treble. We are not a European heavy weight, we don’t have a mentality of you don’t win nothing but great European nights. 2 horse race in Scotland and we are second. Been patient and waiting on the success that our board said would be delivered, well that’s run out.

Seems to be little or no chance of us taking any chances of promoting youth, baffles me and by the looks if it we'll lose nsio, lovelace, rice and yfeko, maybe more, Barcelona played a 17yr old the other night, totally different level, the boy done well, yes Barcelona gt beaten, but a 17 Yr old in an ECL 1/ 4 final, n we very rarely play youth in our first team in the SPL or Cup, no real incentive for them to stay, or am I missing something?

Bar72, it is ok having a trading model if you have already developed the strategy and you have the players coming through to fill the gaps when a quality player is sold. We don't have that.
You also need a Board of Directors that have the investment potential to dig deep initially and when the need arises.
Under King's direction and prior to Wilson coming on board as DoF our prime objective was to get back to having a team capable of winning the league. (I'm not saying that King was the Messiah, far from it, but that was his plan) .
When Parks took over he was to all intent a dictator and he did little to take the Club forward. The appointment of Wilson was objectively to maximise income from the sale of players but they were never replaced with better quality and our youth system remained as not fit for purpose. Our CEO at the time was not commercial and just one of Parks' lackys.
We should be thankful to those that saved the Club in our time of need, and the supporters were no small part of that, however we need to move on. We need fresh money and fresh faces in the Boardroom. It is there, the problem is getting rid of those that add nothing, don't have the investment or are not willing to invest that are only there for the club tie and the blazer.

Windy and Berkshire, I agree with both of you and for me the rebuild should have started after '55', 2 or 3 good young signings every window, replacing the deadwood, instead of rushing to loans, freebies and hanging onto players well past their sell by date, was and is a big mistake. As is signing players with no sellon, and big wages, again puts us on the back foot.
I don't think we will ever have the money for a mega rebuild so we need to buy smart, and young, and hopefully sell on for a profit.

The people that loved Frankenstein Cosgrove want Shankland, we need strength and genuine pace . People can laugh at McBurnie and Che Adams but no club at the level they are at will ever go for Shankland, or clubs like Dykes is playing at for that matter .

Fellow bears. From a very good source, the reason Shankland has not signed for us in this current season is he has a clause in his contract which states he can NOT be sold to another team in the SPFL during his contractual agreement ??. Until he has 6 months left and contractually allowed to speak with other clubs in the SPFL he will be a Hearts player or going elsewhere in Europe.

Was told today that Clemente did not pursue Shankland in January and won’t be looking at him in the summer. To put it simply, he thinks he’s too slow.

I very much doubt we will sign shankland as I said before recruitment will look pretty stupid if they turn nose up twice then go in with player at a higher value than other two opportunities to sign him.
