Spoke to my friend today.

McKenna almost done and dusted ?

I got information correct and wrong about shankland. Rangers valuation and hearts no where near each other and Rangers have left it at that. Where I got it wrong and I apologise was when I mentioned hearts wanting the money all upfront. I double checked, IF shankland leaves the club to keep the Hearts faithful they want to bring in a few signings therefore are asking for a significant amount of the transfer paid. I believe this has put off a few clubs.

Doig I was told was the exact same as shankland - we asked about him that is all and the press have ran with it. Not a chance of happening.

Ridvan was a shock to my friend as PC as i said really liked him but it sounds as if its transfer kitty.

Also last thing a few clubs in scotland and lower leauges of England have asked about Wright, PC is not keen on letting him go.

Also the other night I was a little rude to a fellow member, misread who actually was rude so want to apologise.

some people seem to think your fake mate, think its the new bit

you know you can come in here without needing to give titbits or telling us you have insider information, if you do, that's fine, if not, just join ithe chat.

I find it weird when we are talking about Shankland people saying he’s not worth the £4m or so Hearts apparently want. What price do you put on winning the league? Because with him up front, we win the league. And then get the champions league money that comes with it.

I’m a director in a very profitable multi-million pound business and I work on the commercial side. The numbers involved in this deal, as a businessman, all make total sense.

Just realised how the page works, didn’t realise you had to press reply to the above rumour. Sorry if my separate posts have annoyed anyone.

I’m also laughing at the fact I’ve just realised why people think i'm fake when i set up RFCNEW, we aren’t a new club. I just meant I’m new to the page. If anyone knows how to change the user name that would be great.

I have a mate who tends to have good info, and normally gets it right. Trust me he ain’t someones auntie who works in the canteen at the training center or the cleaners best pal.

Not had the best start to this page lads but trust me I ain’t one of that lot. Think about it … would one of that lot ever apologise.

Theswagman - I understand why a lot of fans think shankland is the answer and tbh I rate him also. His recent form has been fantastic. However i also remember where he had a run of 6 or 7 games without scoring. He is also 29. What IF and it’s a big IF he comes to Rangers and he isn’t the prolific goalscorer we want him to be. We basically have a 29 year old who cost us 4 million. Saying that we currently have dessers. I think PC is building a winning squad but ai can imagine it’s very much about making money for the future.

It's the fact he's Scottish knows our league n is getting better

We are looking at imports again showing the past few seasons most have failed
Ten odd mill on lammers, dessers, danilo,
When last season we could a paid 4 for the most prolific striker in Scotland 4 million is a bargain, folk just turn their nose up because he's scottish n at hearts, its been bad buisness in tranfers for a long time at our club, not all but a lot
So shanklands a no brainer.

Shankland is nowhere near a risk as some of the donkeys who have walked through doors of Ibrox recently - outlay is more than we would ideally like but you see what you get - I always want younger talent to make cash on for our club but can see the sense/ requirement for a goalscorer NOW to chase them down as we may never get a better chance of league than the present- also Champ league cash is imperative and would balance any outlay and more - time is not really on our side for dithering or penny pinching when we have Dessers/ Lammers/ et all as our goal threats- our only goalscorer of note is a loanee who will miss many games with his International team - so let's get a boost and goals at same time!

i am sure if our board believed shankland would win the league for us he would be in already. playing for any other team is different to playing for rangers or indeed celtic unfortunately. i am not saying he would be good or bad for us but as i said if the board were as confident as many on this page he would be in already.

I disagree a bit , it's just snobbery n not wanting too part money too a Scottish Conservative we have wasted cash on absolut drivel recently, so yeah we have wasted it
The board can be wrong they are money men
N my opinion have wasted millions recently

God knows why they didn't buy the best striker In Scottish football by a country mile, n wasted millions on lammers, ext that's the board

But let's not be frilloessthey can be wrong and repeat mistakes
N if emmanul Dennis is our level we ain't going nowhere cause his stats are worse than lammers and dessers

A loanee no goals in 12 games, at least, I'm looking at the picture and being honest, we need an out n out striker

Dennis ain't it
Shankland is you want too be the best get the best

Shankland would n could be a pivotal part n swinging the total towards Govan so 4 is a good price if it helps that n a crack in the champions league.

Shankland does not guarantee the league. No player guarantees anything.

10.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 08:52:29
Storm - What does Dessers Lammers and Mantondo and the list goes on - guarantee us then?

11.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 09:43:20
He just told you blue Floyd, nothing, same as shankland, it's in his post.

12.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 09:57:00
blue, we gurantee them a wage they don't have to give anything in return
now pay them off and see what it cost. Big phil hands will be tied to
either offload whom he thinks are
stealing wages and asking the board
to dig deep and risk FFP.

13.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 10:02:28
Jfm - think you are missing the point - Dessers, Lammers and Matondo GUARANTEE us a waste of time, money and effort and actual team progression thanks to our previous buying prowess!

14.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 10:13:58
No but you must learn lessons n by the looks of it we ain't big itten, souter, roofe, n I like roofe, lammers, just too ryhme off a few some bearly play 4 mill to Liverpool on a defender that's dross, bearly plays, its clear for all too see we have wasted millions, n I really do think If we signed shankland we would be way better off

Dessers
Danilio
Lammers say what 10 mill
Roofe out injured
4 mill shankland
Last season upwards 20 goals
This easily the same n more
I'm miffed as too why we wasted money on them but quarrel over a few million for the best in Scotland

He gureentees better n lammers and dessers
It's that simple.

07 Jan 2024 10:14:48
I want Shankland and I have been a big fan of him for a while but I honestly think this deal will be hard to do as Hearts are playing hardball ????????.

16.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 10:27:05
We didn't sign the best striker in scotland because beale came out and said last season that no number 9 outwith us and celtic were good enough to play for rangers, guy was full of his own guff. Miovski and shankland would be good enough, tbh biereth would get in our squad at the moment. Guy set us back another year or two instead of moving us forward.

17.) 07 Jan 2024

***Long time lurker very infrequent poster***

First off thanks to all the regular posters - I thoroughly enjoy reading everyone’s insights each day and find the debates very interesting.

To throw in my two pence worth on shankers…

My pals and I are from Ayr - I watched in person or on streams >50% of shanklands matches for Ayr and have followed his career closely since then.

I remember he did an interview on bbc Scotland when he was starting to get noticed by the press towards the end of his time at Ayr and he talked about his aspirations to play for Scotland. A clueless Aberdeen fan ridiculed this and I had a very long twitter argument with the clown telling him Shankland will 100% play for Scotland and that he was already good enough to be playing for us (this was early 2018).

Honestly, watching him live you appreciate his movement and football intelligence. He tries things other plays wouldn’t even think of. A game against Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill - the ball bounced on the half-way line with his back to goal (on a counter attack), he took it on the chest similar to Sima’s recent volley and overhead kicked it with a defender on his back knowing the keeper was off his line. Keeper was beat, sadly it came down into the roof of the net. About 2 feet away from being the most outrageous goal I’ve ever seen. Only one example of countless moments of sheer class he showed.

His link up play has ALWAYS been excellent - it’s a lazy rhetoric from sportsound pundits/ media that his link up play has improved, it’s always been there.

The season in the prem with Dundee united where he didn’t score many - he was playing a much deeper role to come and collect the ball and make things happen because their tactics were basically chuck three strikers on and see what happens.

On sportsound last week Ian McCall said he sat in Ubiquitous chip in the west end with gerrard and mcallister and tried to convince them to sign Shankland for nothing (contract was coming to an end at Ayr) and it “very nearly happened”. Broke my heart hearing that I have been crying out for rangers to sign him since the Ayr days.

Regarding pace - he’s nowhere near as slow as he’s made out to be but to be honest, surely IF he is deemed to be slow that’s a benefit for us? He doesn’t rely on blistering pace to score goals - his quality does it (super Ally wasn’t exactly Usain Bolt? ) . And a striker who doesn’t really on pace is going to have a longer career than someone who relies on it. Plus playing against low blocks in the SPL - he doesn’t need blistering pace. We will create enough chances in and around the box for him. How often are we counter attacking against the low block teams? (YES in Europe he might lack a yard of pace but Morelos wasn’t exactly quick either and his best performances came in Europe due to his hold up and strength - something Shankland has in abundance) .

He bangs in goals with left foot, right foot, header, in the box, out the box, volleys, bicycle kicks, outside of the boot - every type of goal.

I am 100% certain if we had spent £4mill on shankers in the summer instead of Lammers/ dessers/ danilo we would be top of the league.

I understand people talking about resale value but at the end of the day - as many posters have said if he helps us to the league the champions league riches justify the expenditure many times over.

And we’re living in a fantasy land if we think every single signing must have the potential to sell for big money - that’s an expensive gamble because you’re going to continue spending 2-3million on players like Matondo who cost a lot due to their apparent potential but are very much unfinished articles (how much has he cost between the fee and wages to essentially do nothing for us? ) .

The snobbery against SPL players needs to stop - our bread and butter is the league and signing the best in the league will give us a solid foundation to win the league.

ANYWAY TO SIGN-OFF.

Whether we sign him or not, I think we are in the safest pair of (giant) hands in BIG BAD BALD PHIL CLEMENT since the legendary Sir Walter Smith (that is not to compare them - Mr Rangers can have no equal for me) and I am very excited for the future under him.

Sick a reading snobbery on here the vast majority of the people on here want Shankland so how is it snobbery?

19.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 11:18:37
Funny how hearts are not winning league eh! ?
and how much did he cost hearts again?
And how many goals did he score for Aberdeen
And how many goals did he score for stmirren

Truth is he is having a great season and suits hearts he was ok a Dundee United

He failed in European move and is at an age where buying team won’t have much of a sell on fee and in the age of financial fair play then sorry I can't see anyone bar maybe an english team paying 4 million 2 million tops.

20.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 11:24:56
Spot on Will - I too was desperate for us to take the chance when he was at Ayr as a rough diamond - but as usual our own leagues were not deemed good enough and had to shop abroad in so called better foreign leagues - hope our stance changes moving forward as the 100-200k touted then was chickenfeed and would rather take that type of chance than the millions upon tens of millions we have wasted on crap and donkeys over the years!

21.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 11:27:02
Cheers Jfm obviously that boy can’t read.

Good post geesadodothat.

It’s not snobbery this snobbery all came about becaus the majority didn’t want to sign lewis Ferguson because they didn’t think he was good enough (I thought he was) it’s not snobbery it’s just a difference of opinion .

You have changed your tune pretty quickly bluedreamer you said shankland guarantees the league now you are saying he guarantees better than Lammers dessers etc…

He is not the best in Scotland either Kyogo is the best striker in Scotland an has been for last 2 years.

22.) 07 Jan 2024

Storm - Maybe I can't read - but I can spell??.

23.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 12:21:26
No storm my tunes the same I honestly think with shankland we would win the league
Hearts ain't winning the league cause two big better teams in front of them
But what they do have is great firepower, goalgetter n captain, and if he can do all this with hearts and we signed him
Yes I do think we would pip celtic to the league
2 games in hand
2 old firms
I'm just saying how I see it
Iv watched all shanklands games he is a baller.

24.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 12:38:17
Raskin if you think i'm saying snobbery from our fans its not its ment to beale n co, who overlooked great scottish talent, ferguson, portous, shankland, to name a few,
It's the team I love always have n always will, but I'm angry at a lot of our transfer dealings of late, I want us too win I'm passionate about it, but I access and say what I see
Always will n will always be honest.

25.) 07 Jan 2024

Goforbigcf9 I’m not sure what relevance hearts not winning the league has? You could put prime R9 in the hearts team and they wouldn’t win the league.

How much he cost hearts is not really relevant? If he’s signed on a free his market value now under contract is his market value. If a player comes through the academy do you just give them away because there was no transfer fee to bring them in?

Again I fail to see the relevance of his days at St Mirren or Aberdeen (all pre-2017). The guy’s career was on the scrap heap when Ayr took a chance, he was training in local parks to keep fit.

Since joining Ayr his career has taken off so anything pre-that time is irrelevant surely?

Scored 7goals and 4 assists in his season in the prem with dundee united from 28 games which isn’t bad given that they stunk it out that season and he was playing in a much deeper role (Nicky Clark and mark mcnulty played higher up the park) .

“Failed” in Europe is harsh…he moved to what turned out to be a piss poor team who got relegated.

First hearts player to score more than 20 goals a season since John Robertson and he’s on the verge of doing that again already this season?

So you can’t really just put it down “he’s having a good season”.

I agree with you in that if we sign him this window we will be paying over the odds as it’s always the case in January but what alternative striking option do you recommend? He knows the league so would take no time to settle. Has a great injury profile. If he scores 20 goals a season for us over a 4 year contract and helps us to a couple of league titles (hopefully more) in that time then the lack of resale is chicken feed.

26.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 12:45:15
Agreed bluedreamer when I said snobbery I wasn’t aiming at our fans/ posters here. I was referring to our board/ beale/ wilson etc.

27.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 13:41:48
If signing Shankland guaranteed the league as the swagsman stated, I`m sure we would pay the money for him but no player or players guarantee us anything . We assume that he would be better than Dessers but even that is not guaranteed and the fact that we have spent badly on players with a poorer record than Shankland doesn`t mean we go crazy and just give Hearts a ridiculous fee .

28.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 13:43:53
Wil, gofor is saying that because a poster said sign shankland we win the league which is just utter bs. You have obviously missed the point gofor was making.

29.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 13:51:57
Swagman, re shankland you say the figures add up. but maybe Rangers don't value him at £4m or don't have the amount to spend on 1 player, I like shankland and I'd value him nearer 3m given his age and length of time left on his contract.

30.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 14:20:51
Storm/ gofor I missed that part I see what you mean and I agree nothing is guaranteed but I do think guys like Shankland are comparatively low risk for the outlay vs guys like Lammers/ dessers (and even Danilo although I’m reserving judgement on Danilo as he’s been very unlucky with injury - he may well prove to be a great signing)

31.) 07 Jan 2024
07 Jan 2024 14:27:41
Two excellent posts Will and top insight. The story about Gerrard and McCall is startling as the deal would have cost pennies then.

A lot of posters jumping on to others as usual. We absolutely need a clinical striker in this window. Instead of piling on others, why not just give us your opinion on who we SHOULD sign.

I want Shankland in. Biereth would be a decent back up too or (dare I say) Van Veen as a back up to see us through to summer.

It's great too have opinions we all do but we shouldn't ever get personal, we all support gers, doesn't mean we have to all agree with each other, the great thin about this page is we all talk, bit a banter n can say what we feel, right or wrong,
End of the day it's still our team

I love this page
N I love our team
We all add incite n keep this page going, but I never genuinely try too insult anybody

Honestly wish everyone well
Life's too short.

Agree ibrox4me I couldn’t believe what I was listening to.

I mean why didn’t the gerrard era rangers sign him on the back of mccalls advice (an ex-rangers player and vastly experienced manager trying to give rangers the jump on a player for zero risk and zero personal gain) and loan him out to an SPL team to further develop?

If he looks like a dud, nothing ventured nothing gained at essentially no outlay (wages at Ayr were around the £1500/ week mark I believe) .
If he went on to prove his worth (as he has done) he’d have been scoring goals and taking points off competition then transition into our squad when it was felt the time was tight.

Anyway, crying over spilt milk now but it’s just an example of poor judgement in terms of recruitment decisions that we’ve made over the past 5 years.

Onwards and upwards with BBB Phil Clement.
