Kevin Thomson has been approached for a role in Beale's backroom team. It doesn't look like it will be finalised tomorrow (or today - Friday) . You can expect it to be confirmed Monday or Tuesday next week.

As far as I am aware Thomson has approached the club for a role - he will not be involved with the first team squad if he gets any role I am reliably informed - it will be with the youth set up if anything.

Thomson was very over rated IMO in a Rangers shirt, he always thought he was too good for Scottish football in general. Walter Smith said himself, he was desperate to leave Rangers, he wasn't successfull in comparison to other players, very full of himself and very over rated as a coach just as he was as a player.

Playing for Rangers and scoring against them, is not a pre requisite or necessary for the job in my opinion.
If he is really that good and held in such high regard, why has it taken him so long to get a job?
Just asking as I don't know the guy!

I thought Thomson was a great player for us when he was fit. Very unlucky with injuries. I'd like to see him as part of the youth set up to see how he progresses.

Gregory202 if Thompson joins us again it would be working with the first team, he won’t be working with youths. I’ve still not heard any info on this other than Thompson is keen on it though, however I do suspect he is the one that Beale was talking about another staff member possibly joining.

Thomson was a good player for us, was a great foil for the more creative players we had at the time, put Robbie Keane on his backside a few times on the latter's old firm debut. And many people within the club spoke highly of him as a coach, but some on here know better than those who worked with him.

What is it with our fanbase and questioning if someone has experience or not to be on the coaching staff.

There's legit coaches in the prem who 1. Are younger than half the players they coach 2. never played football in there life. No one questions it.

Arrogant and aloof john that sounds like a manager/ coach to me can't say Alex ferguson doesn't fit that description. Not saying he's AF but it doesn't take being a players best Friend to be a good coach.

ED001, you seem to have a excellent knowledge of football, could I ask you what's happening at Juventus? I know the board have quit seemingly because of some sort of financial issues, are we going to see them loose league titles?

{Ed001's Note - I doubt it. They have been trying to get round FFP by lying about their losses in essence so they could continue to spend. Most of it relates to the guy that is now Spurs' sporting director Paratici. He was falsely inflating the value of the players on Juve's books by a huge margin as well as producing receipts for transactions that never happened. As it pretty much stopped once he left, hence the record losses they announced recently, I expect they will just be booted from European competition for a while. The question is whether any of them will be prosecuted, which is looking likely. Paratici is certainly looking in trouble as they wiretapped his protege and successor who basically revealed what Paratici had been doing in full.}
