Rangers had Ayr Uniteds Lawrence Shankland at Ibrox/ Murray Park today, only 6 months left on his contract at Ayr United and already had interest from Dundee and English sides. I have no idea if an offer is coming his way but certainly he was there. don't know too much about him to be honest but has scored quite a few goals this season.

The name Nicky Clark comes to mind but it's not to say he won't go on to be a Vardy either.

No chance. Having watched him for Morton and Ayr I can confidently say there is no chance he is coming to Rangers. He knocked them in in League 1, his previous seasons in the Championship were abject failures. He has started this season well but has none of the requirements to be a Rangers player.

That was my point so72 Clark had a fantastic season before coming to us and failed to live up to the hype.

He would be cheap as chips and a risk free gamble at his age. Easily recoup whatever outlay. no brainer if the lad is wanting to develop and not be a first XI player.

Im not saying he's Rangers class, infact He didn't make the grade at Aberdeen or any of the loan clubs that he has went out to apart from Ayr over the last year and a bit - but i am close to someone who works inside the club at Ayr and that's where he was yesterday, iv no reason to doubt his information as he's told me a few players who have been signing for Ayr in advance and got them all spot on.

Im not sure why he was there, it seems obvious to assume they are in talks etc but i guess it could have been for another reason maybe.

If he comes in then it is absolutely a step backwards.

Youth players not making the grade at their first club doesn't mean always mean much to how they are going to turn out. Stuart Armstrong never made the grade at Inverness and now he's in the EPL as one example.

Not that I know anything at all about Shankland having said that.

His contract is up at the end of the season I believe so might just be giving him an option for then. Better to stick where he is and bang them in for Ayr this season.

based on the not rangers class argument, we would never have signed mccoist from sunderland then based on his record then and his first season or 2 with us wasnt great, and the rest as they say. is history- ian wright was in non league with greenwich borough when he was 22.

People making these arguments haven't seen Shankland play. If Warbs or Pedro made a signing like that they would get ripped to shreds. Luckily, its no happening.

shankland been great for Ayr United goal machine last season and started this season the way he finished last defiantly an option and going by goals he's far better than lanky sadiq don't rate that boy much at all.

Every time Shankland played against us he caused us problems with both Physical and Link up play.
Some people moan about giving youth players a chance then why not a Scottish youth player.
Going down the leagues to come back up is not a bad thing as Vardy/ Platt, etc showed.
It’s game time and experience playing against older seasoned pro’s.
Good luck to the Scottish Lad if true.

Honestly, not to bang on about it, but having actually seen Shankland play - he has found his level. Would love to be wrong but he doesn't have the attributes to be a Rangers striker. He is also 23, not exactly a youth player.

Guys this one is not going away and the latest from inside Ayr United is that Rangers Will sign Shankland at the beginning of next week and that he will be loaned back out to Ayr for the time being, Ayr are Glad of this as they think he can fire them to the play offs - they still get a fee as well instead of losing him at end of season for nout.
